Item ASSESSMENT OF SEEDBORNE MYCOFLORA OF SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus L.)(DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY, 2021) REZA, MD. SHAMIMAn experiment was conducted in Dr. M. A Wazed Miah Central laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207 during the period from June’ 2020 to December’ 2020 to detect, identify and isolating associated mycoflora in three varieties of sunflower for fullfilling the objectives with five methods viz., Blotter paper pethod, Deep freezing method, Washing test, PDA media method and Water agar plate method were used. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications for all methods. The species composition, percentage of seed infection and seeds germination percentage differed among cultivars as well as method. A total of 9 different fungal species belonging to six genera were detected from sunflower seed through five different methods. Among them BARI Sunflower 3 showed the highest infection in washing test compared to other methods. A number of fungi isolated in the present study specially those in the genera viz. Alternaria sp, Curvularia sp, Aspergillus sp, Fusarium sp, Rhizopus sp, and Stemphyllum sp are known to be potent mycoflora producers. Among the fungi detected, frequency of Alternaria alternata was found significantly the highest in the all methods. The highest percentage of germination was found in BARI Sunflower 3 (86.67%) by Blotter paper method. The highest percentage of infection was found in BARI Sunflower 3 (73.33%) in both Blotter and Washing test and the percentage of dead seed after incubation was least in BARI Sunflower 3 (13.33%) by Blotter paper method. Of the five methods tested for detection of seedborne mycoflora, Blotter paper, PDA media, and Washing test were highly effective for mycoflora study.Item PROBLEM FACED BY THE FARMERS IN VEGETABLE CULTIVATION IN THE SELECTED AREA OF SARISHABARI UPAZILLA UNDER JAMALPUR DISTRICT(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2021) REZA, MD. SHAMIMVegetable cultivation is a profitable farming practice in respect of Bangladesh although farmers often face various problems in tradit ional cultivation. The purposes of the study were to determine the extent of problem faced by the farmers in vegetable cultivation; to compare the severity among the problem faced by the farmers in vegetables cultivation; to describe some selected characteristics of the vegetable farmers and to explore the relationships between the selected characteristics of the vegetable farmers and their extent of problem faced in vegetables cultivation. The study was undertaken purposively in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district. Validated and well-structured interview schedule was used to collect data from 103 vegetable growers during 1st June to 30 viii th , June 2022. The highest proportion (71.84%) of the vegetable farmers faced medium problem faced as compare to 16.51 percent faced low problem and 11.65 percent faced high problem in vegetable cultivation. On the basis of Problem Faced Index (PFI), it was observed that “High cost of labour” ranked first followed by “High cost of seed fertilizer and pesticides” and “Lack of knowledge about market information” were the least problem faced by the farmers in vegetable cultivation. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlat ion that education, annual family income, income from vegetable cultivation, experience on vegetable cultivation, training exposure and knowledge on vegetable cultivation technologies of the farmers had negative significant relationship with their problem faced in vegetable cultivation. Beside these, rest four characteristics of the farmers (age, family size, vegetable cultivation land and media exposure) had no significant relationship with their problem faced in vegetable cultivation. This study could be helpful for formulation of principle and implementation to eradicate the problems in vegetable cultivation and a reference for future study.Item PROPAGATION OF JHAU (Casuarina equisetifolia) AND WAX JAMBU (Syzygium samarangense) THROUGH AIR LAYERING USING DIFFERENT ROOT PROMOTING SUBSTANCES(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, 2022) REZA, MD. SHAMIMThe experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh to evaluate the influence of propagation of jhau (Casuarina equisetifolia) and wax jambu (Syzygium samarangense) through air layering using different root promoting substances during the period from March, 2022 to June, 2022. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Eight treatments, T 0 : Control (75% Soil + 25% Cow dung); T 1 : 75% of (75% Soil + 25% Cow dung) + 25% Vermicompost; T 2 : 75% Soil + 25% Cow dung + Garlic extract (50 g/L); T 3 : 75% Soil + 25% Cow dung + Aloe vera gel (20 ml/L); T 4 : 75% Soil + 25% Cow dung + IBA @ 50 ppm; T 5 : 75% Soil + 25% Cow dung + Honey (2 table spoon/L); T 6 : 75% Soil + 25% Cow dung + NAA @ 40 ppm and T 7 : 75% Soil + 25% Cowdung + IAA @ 30 ppm were included in the study. Results showed that the significant variations were observed among different parameters. In the case of different treatments performance of jhau, T 1 showed best performance in terms of total number of roots per layer (70.20), rooting percentage (95.55%) and survival percentage after placing in the polybag (90.40%) and the order of rank of study was T 1 > T 4 > T 6 > T 3 > T 2 > T 7 > T 5 > T 0 . On the contrary for wax jambu, T 6 showed best performance in terms of total number of roots per layer (63.60), rooting percentage (97.76%) and survival percentage after placing in the polybag (74.67%) and the order of rank of study was T 6 > T 1 > T 4 > T 5 > T 0
