Item EFFECTS OF GINGER AND BLACK PEPPER SUPPLEMENT ON THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF BROILERS(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2016-12) RAHMAN, MD. MOSTAFIZUR; Dr. Rakibul IslamThis study was conducted in the poultry shed at HSTU campus, Dinajpur under the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology from October to December, 2016 to determine the efficacy of ginger, black pepper and ginger-black pepper supplement as a growth promoter on the performance of broilers. Total forty number of cobb 500 day old broiler chicks were purchased from local market and were assigned into four groups named T0, T1, T2 and T3 where T0 is control group and another three groups were supplemented with ginger, black pepper and ginger-black pepper @ 1g, 1g and (0.5+0.5)g =1g per kg feed of broiler ration respectively. At first, the birds were remain in observation for seven days as a quarantine period without treatment. Seven days interval, observations were recorded for live body weight, feed consumption, and feed efficacy of birds for five weeks. The initial body weight of groups T0, T1, T2 and T3 on 7th day of this experiment were 175±8.54g, 178±7.95g, 174±7.90g and 177±7.95g and after 35th day of experiment final body weight were 2.21±0.08kg, 2.51±0.04kg, 2.36±0.04kg and 2.52±0.04kg which recorded significantly (p<0.01) higher means for live body weight than that of control T0 (2.21±0.08kg) group. All the treatment groups were show significant increase in body weight compared to that of control group. Carcass body weight and blood performance also determined at 35th day of the experiment but there is no significant difference. It is concluded that broiler produced by using ginger and black pepper supplement can be profitable and suitable for human consumption as natural growth promoter. Further study may be more significant if get a favorable environment and proper facilities.Item FARMERS’ KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE (KAP) TOWARDS AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION OF BABUGANJ UPAZILLA UNDER BARISHAL DISTRICT(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA-1207, 2018-12) RAHMAN, MD. MOSTAFIZURMechanization is a process through which agricultural activities can be improved and optimum crop production can be achieved. The objectives of this study were to describe the selected socio-economic profile of the farmers, to determine the extent of farmers’ knowledge, attitude and practice against agricultural mechanization, to explore the correlation among each of selected characteristics of farmers and their knowledge, attitude and practice towards agricultural mechanization. The study was undertaken purposively in Babuganj upazilla under Barishal district. Validated and well-structured interview schedule was used to collect data. The statistical measures such as range, means, standard deviation, number and percentage distribution were used to describe the selected variables. Pearson’s Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation (r) was used in order to explore the relationships between the concerned variables. The findings of the study showed that 86.8% of the farmers had poor to moderate knowledge, 63.21% of them had low favorable attitude and 77.4% had medium level of practice of agricultural mechanization. The findings also implies that the educational qualification, farm size, annual family income, area under agricultural mechanization, training received on agricultural mechanization, agricultural extension media contact, agricultural machinery using experience had significant relationship with their knowledge, attitude and practice towards agricultural mechanization. Bangladesh agriculture is currently facing several challenges like ageing farmers, feminization of agriculture, farm labor shortage, shrinking land, degradation of natural resources, soaring prices, and vulnerability to climate change, etc. To face these problems there is no other better option than practicing agricultural mechanization. It is concluded that adequate technical support, cooperative farming system, credit availability, extension media contact, training facilities need to be extended to enhance farmers’ knowledge, attitude and practice towards agricultural mechanization.Item INVOLVEMENT OF RURAL WOMEN IN HOMESTEAD VEGETABLE CULTIVATION IN A SELECTED AREA OF BADARGANJ UP AZILA UNDER RANGPUR DISTRICT(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2006) RAHMAN, MD. MOSTAFIZURThe focus of the study was the involvement of rural women in homestead vegetable cultivation in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur district. The objective of the study were to (i) assess the extent of involvement of rural women in homestead vegetable cultivation, (ii) explore the relationship between the selected characteristics of the rural women and their involvement in homestead vegetable cultivation, (iii)assess the problems faced by the rural women to undertake homestead vegetable cultivation .. Data were collected by using interview schedule during 251h January to 25111 February 2006. Majority (66%) of the respondent had medium involvement with homestead winter vegetable production as compared to 29% percent having low and 5 percent high involvement. The highest proportion (68%) of the respondents had medium involvement in homestead summer vegetable production as compared to 28 percent low and 4 percent had high involvement. The majority (67%) of the respondents had medium involvement with overall homestead vegetable production as compared to 24 percent low and 9 percent high involvement. Correlation analysis indicated that among the respondents selected characteristics, family size was no relation with each of their winter, summer and overall homestead vegetable cultivation. Farm size had no relationship with winter vegetable cultivation but had positive relationship with summer and overall vegetable production. Age, education, knowledge on homestead vegetable cultivation, annual family income, farm size and communication exposure were positively related with each of their winter, summer and overall homestead vegetable cultivation. Among the selected 12 problems, the top most three problems according to rank order were "lack of quality seeds and seedlings", "do not get due market price" and "disease and insect infestation".Item MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS IN MAIZE (Zea mays L.)(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2007-12) RAHMAN, MD. MOSTAFIZUR; Bhabendra Kumar BiswasA field experiment was conducted with 27 maize genotypes at the experiment field of Genetics and Plant Breeding Department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur to study their genetic diversity based on 12 quantitative characters during March 2006 to June 2006. Significant variations exist among the maize genotypes for all the characters under study as revealed by analysis of variance against each of the characters.
