Item AN INTERNSHIP REPORT ON GENERAL BANKING ACTIVITIES OF MARCANTILE BANK LIMITED (MBL) A CASE STUDY IN CONTEXT OF DINAJPUR BRANCH(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2016-05) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANUR; RAFIA AKHTARItem BIO-SAFETY MANAGEMENT AND CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF RADISH ROOT TOWARDS ALTERNARIA BLIGHT OF MUSTARD (Brassica napus)(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2009-07) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANUR; Prof. Dr. Md. Mamunur RashidAn investigation was carried out at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the period of 2008-09 to explore the possibility of controlling Alternaria blight of mustard caused by Alternaria brassicae and A. brassicicola. A promising mustard variety BARI-9 was used in this investigation. A total of eight management practices viz., aqueous radish root extract (1:1), aqueous radish root extract (1:2), petroleum ether radish root extract (1:1), petroleum ether radish root extract (1:2), BAU-Biofungicide(0.2%), Iprodione2 spary (0.25%)and Iprodione-3 (0.25%)spary including a control (plain water spray) were applied as foliar spray. The Alternaria symptom wass appeared on lower leaves at 27-days old plants and spraying were started from the time of disease initiation with 7 to 14-day interval. Among the treatments, Iprodione-3-spray showed superior performance in controlling Alternaria blight of mustard. Iprodione-3 spray reduced leaf area diseased, siliqua area diseased, percent plant infection, percent leaf infection, percent siliqua infection and number of spot per siliqua by 69.92%, 66.41%, 35.08%, 65.17%, 80.13% and 57.23%, respectively and increased seed yield by 55.68% over control. The second best performance against Alternaria blight was obtained from Iprodione-2 spray. Radish root extracts was sprayed with 7-day interval. Other than Iprodione, petroleum ether radish root extract (1:1) performed best in controlling the disease. Spray of petroleum ether radish root extract (1:1) reduced leaf area diseased, siliqua area diseased, percent plant infection, percent leaf infection, percent siliqua infection and number of spot per siliqua by 34.87%, 44.39%, 20.07%, 27.33%, 34.07% and 39.13%, respectively and increased seed yield by 35.93% over control. BAU-Biofungicide was sprayed twice with 14-day intervals and also showed significant result next to radish root petroleum ether extract (1:1) and increased seed yield by 25.64% over control. Regarding the economic consideration, iprodione-2 spray gave the maximum return (BCR=3.57) while the control treatment showed the lowest return (BCR=0.82). Petroleum ether radish root extract (1:1) as eco-friendly management practice exhibited good performance next to Iprodione (BCR=1.96). In laboratory investigation with Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) of petroleum ether radish root extract towards antifungal compounds showed one distinct compound and mixture of compounds. The distinct compound showed high Ry value indicate non-polar type. Therefore, it may be concluded that Alternaria blight of mustard can be controlled with petroleum ether radish root extract (1:1) as foliar spray reducing maximum disease incidence and providing satisfactory higher seed yield in the sense of environmental pathology.Item DEVELOPMENT OF IPM PACKAGE(S)AGAINST TOMATO FRUIT BORER BY UTILIZING SOME INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT TACTICS(Department of Entomology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, 2011-06) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANURThe study was conducted at the Central Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh during 25 October, 2011 to 29 March, 2012 to study the effectiveness of some IPM packages against tomato fruit borer. The study was consists of seven treatments. These were as follows: T1 = Neem oil @ 4ml/l of water at 7 days interval, T2 = Neem seed kernel @ 300g/6l of water at 7 days interval, T3 =Trichogramma evanescense @ 0.25g/6m2 at 7 days interval + Neem oil @ 4ml/l of water at 7 days interval, T4 =Trichogramma evanescense @ 0.25g/6m2 at 7 days interval, T5 = Dursban 20EC 3ml/l of water at 7 days interval, T6 = Basathrin 10EC 2.5ml/l of water at 7 days interval and T7= Untreated Control. The study was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The results of the study revealed that the highest number of fruits plant-1were harvested from T3 treated plot during flowering stage (54.00) and reproductive stage (63.15). While, the lowest number of fruit plot-1 at flowering (23.78) and at reproductive stage (39.77) was recorded from untreated control plot (T7). Consequently, the highest healthy fruits yield (247.94kg) and total fruit yield (270.99kg) was also observed in T3 treatment. On the other hand, the lowest percent of fruit borer infestation was found in the same treatment. The weight of total fruit, (2080 g) and healthy fruit, (1894 g) plot-1was harvested in T5treated plot while, the lowest total fruit (1052.10 g) and healthy fruit (890.30 g) plot-1was harvested from untreated control plot. The benefit cost ratio was the highest (1.377) in the plot of T3treatment.Item EFFECT OF ARSENIC ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF RICE(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2010) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANURThe pot experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from December 2010 to May 2011 to study the effect of arsenic on growth and yield of rice. The experiment comprised of two factors. Factor A: Arsenic level (4 levels): As0: Control (No arsenic); As1: 20 ppm As kg soil-1, As2: 40 ppm As kg soil-1 and As3: 60 ppm As kg soil-1. Factor B: Rice variety: (4 Nos.); V1: BRRI dhan28; V2: BRRI dhan29; V3: BRRI hybrid dhan-1 and V4: Chamak. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. In case of arsenic, at 30, 50, 70, 90 DAT and harvest the longest plant (17.59 cm, 32.53 cm, 56.64 cm, 77.04 and 84.09 cm), maximum length of panicle (23.10 cm), highest number of filled grains panicle-1 (92.52), highest grain yield (3.91 t ha-1) and highest straw yield (7.52 t ha-1) was recorded in As0, whereas the shortest plant (16.44 cm, 28.88 cm, 53.40 cm, 72.53 cm and 80.85 cm), minimum length of panicle (22.05), lowest number of filled grains panicle-1 (79.35), lowest grain yield (3.39 t ha-1) and lowest straw yield (7.16 t ha-1) was recorded in As3. In case of variety, at 30, 50, 70, 90 DAT and at harvest, the tallest plant (18.61 cm, 34.68 cm, 58.59 cm, 81.69 cm and 92.40 cm) was observed in V4, again the shortest plant (15.01 cm, 24.74 cm, 47.47 cm, 60.05 cm and 63.10 cm) from V1. The maximum length of panicle (23.80 cm) was recorded in V3, whereas the minimum length (21.01 cm) from V1. The highest number of filled grains panicle-1 (88.46) was observed in V4, whereas the lowest number (79.83) from V1. The highest grain yield (4.91 t ha-1) was found in V3 and the lowest grain yield (2.66 t ha-1) from V1. The highest straw yield (8.08 t ha-1) was observed in V4, whereas the lowest straw yield (6.66 t ha-1) from V1. In case of the interaction effect of arsenic and variety, at 30, 50, 70, 90 DAT and at harvest the tallest plant (20.34 cm, 39.96 cm, 64.15 cm, 89.03 cm and 99.43 cm, respectively) was observed from As0V4, while the shortest (13.46 cm, 20.38 cm, 42.91 cm, 53.78 cm and 54.43 cm, respectively) from As3V1. The maximum length of panicle (24.28 cm) was attained from As0V3 and the minimum length (20.82 cm) from As3V1. The highest number of filled grains panicle-1 (95.63) was observed from As0V2 and the lowest number (71.90) from As3V1. The highest grain yield (5.30 t ha-1) was attained from As0V3, while the lowest grain yield (2.20 t ha-1) from As3V1. The highest straw yield (8.23 t ha-1) was recorded from As0V4, whereas the lowest straw yield (6.40 t ha-1) from As3V1.Item EFFECTIVE USE OF EXTENSION TEACHING METHODS BY THE SUB ASSISTANT AGRICULTURE OFFICER (SAAO) OF DAE(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2007) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANURThe mam purpose of the study was to determine the extent of effective use of extension teaching methods by the Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO) of DAE and to explore the relationships between the selected charactenstics of the respondents and their effective use of extension teaching methods. The study was conducted in Kajpur upazila under Sirajganj distnct. Data were collected from 50 SAAOs by using a pre-tested interview schedule dunng the penod from September 15 to October 15, 2007 Appropriate scales were developed to measure the variables of the study. Correlauonts) test was used to ascertain the relationships between the concerned independent and dependent vanables of the study The find mg of the study revealed that highest proportion (56 percent) of the respondents had moderately effective use of extension teaching methods compared to 18 and 26 percent having less effective use and highly effective use of extension teaching methods respectively Correlation analysis indicated that four out of six characteristics of the SAA.Os namely, in service tram mg, media contact, job satisfaction and JOb performance had significant positive relatronships with their effective use of extension teaching methods Other two characteristics of the SAAOs namely, service length and JOb facilities had no significant relationshrp with their effective use of extension teaching methods.Item INCIDENCE AND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF INSECT PEST COMPLEX OF SWEET GOURD AND THEIR EFFECT ON NATURAL ENEMIES(DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA., 2015-12) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANURAn experiment was carried out at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University central farm during the period from October 2015 to July 2016 to know the incidence and management practices of insect pest complex of sweet gourd and their effect on natural enemies. The variety; suprima (Lalteer) of Sweet gourd was selected for the study. There were seven treatments viz, (i) T1 (spraying Phytoclean @ 1.0 ml/l of water), (ii) T2 (spraying Sevin 85 SP @ 1.5g/l of water), (iii) T3 (spraying Suntaf 50 SP @ 1.5 g/l of water), (iv) T4 (spraying Ripcord 10 EC @ 1.0 ml/l of water), (v) T5 (spraying Sumialpha 5EC @ 1.0 ml/l of water), (vi) T6 (Mechanical and Cultural practices) all treatments are applied at 7 days interval and (vii) T7 (untreated control). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Results revealed that in terms of leaf infestation by red pumpkin beetle, epilachna beetle, whitefly and leaf cutting caterpillar; shoot infestation by red pumpkin beetle and leaf cutting caterpillar; and also fruit infestation by fruit fly and whitefly; in each case, best performance was obtained by T2 by reducing leaf, shoot and fruit infestation and also by producing highest healthy leaves, shoots and fruits. Results also revealed that the highest healthy fruit yield (61.08 tha-1) and lowest % infested fruits yield by weight (8.15%) was achieved by T2. The highest % reduction of infested fruit by weight over control (72.73%) was also obtained from the plot of this treatment (T2).Item MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS AND YIELD OF MUSTARD AS INFLUENCED BY DIFFERENT SOWING TIMES AND SALICYLIC ACID(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL BOTANY, 2017) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANURThe experiment was conducted during the period from October, 2016 to March, 2016 in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka to find out the morpho-physiology, yield and quality of mustard as influenced by different sowing times and salicylic acid. The experiment comprised of two factors- Factor A: Different sowing times 1 : 25 October, 2016; S ii 2 : 05 November, 2016; S : 15 November, 2016 and S : 25 November, 2016; Factors B: Different concentration of salicylic acid 0 4 : 0 mM 1 : 0.2 mM, SA : 0.4 mM;. The two factors experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design -1 , seeds siliqua 2 -1 , seed and stover yield -1 respectively while the minimum number of siliqua plant -1 , seeds siliqua -1 1 , seed and stover yield respectively 1 4 3 treatment. In case of salicylic acid, the maximum number of siliqua plant , the longest siliqua, seed and stover yield respectively -1 2 , the shortest siliqua, seed and stover yield respectively 1 SA 2 0 treatment and the lowest SA0 treatment combination. The highest number of siliqua plant -1 , seeds siliqua -1 4 , seed and stover yield -1 respectively 1 SA treatment and the lowest number of siliqua plant -1 , seeds siliqua -1 2 , seed and stover yield respectively 4 SA treatment combination. Sowing on 20 November and salicylic acid concentration 0.4 mM followed by 0.2 mM was more potential in regards to yield contributing characters and yield of mustard.Item PREVALENCE OF MYCOPLASMA GALLISEPTICUM ANTIBODIES IN CHICKEN AND ISOLATION OF SAME ORGANISM FROM THE SEROPOSITIVE CASES(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2010-08) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANUR; Dr. Md. Mostafizer RahmanThe prevalence of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) antibody in chickens in 05 selected small scale layer Farms in Dinajpur district of Bangladesh was determined during the period March to August, 2010. To conduct this study a total of 304 (10% birds of farm) sera samples were collected. Rapid Serum Plate Agglutination (SPA) test was performed using commercial MG antigen to detect the presence of antibodies against MG. The over all prevalence of MG antibody was 54.6% in the study area. The highest prevalence (61.7) was found at March-April followed MayJune (50.8) and July-August (47.73). The result further revealed that the infection was higher (69.6%) in young birds than in adult birds (50.4%). It was also demonstrated that the infection was higher (68.5%) in large flocks than in small flocks (50.10%). M. gallisepticum was isolated from tracheal swabs obtained from seropositive birds by inoculating the tracheal swabs into Mycplasma agar and Mycoplasma broth media during the period of study.Item STUDY OF FLOWERING PATTERN AND REPRODUCTIVE EFFICIENY IN MUNGBEAN(Department of Agricultural Botany, 2008-12) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANURA pot experiment was conducted at the Iangladesh InsLitute ol Nuclear ALricutture. Mvrnensingh, during September to November 2007 to investigate flower production, tiowering pattern, reproductive eliieienev. yield attributes and their relationship with seed yield in 10 munghean genotypes. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design with Ibur replications. High yielding genotypes produced greater number ol opened flowers (range 34.2-45.0 plani1 ) having longer flowering duration (range 15-I8 days) than the low yielding ones. In contrast, low, yielding genotypes produced fewer opened flowers (range 16.1-2] .0 Plant) and also .4 showed shorter flowering duration (range II - IS days) except M13-46 (21 days). I ugh yielding genotypes had higher flower production rate over time than the low yielding ones and maximum flower production occurred within 10-12 days after flowering started. 1-lowever. high yielding genotypes had inferior performance in reproductive eliieicncy (range 52.6-61 .4Q/0) than in low yielding ones (59.5-812%) indicating that there Was a scope of increasing yield by improving the reproductive efficiency in high yielding genotypes in rnungbean. Iligh yielding genotypes maintained increased teal area. TDM. increased flowers and pod numbers plani'. In contrast, low yielding genotypes produced shorter and narrower plant canopy, tower flowers and pods plani'. Seed yield had highly significant and positive correlation with pod number (r = 0.89**) and pod number depended on leaf area (r = 0.75**), TDM (r = 0.84**). raceme (r 0.76*) and flower number (r 0.87*t). Genotypes ML3-l7 and ?v113-35 showed better perlormance in respect of growth, reproductive, yield and yield contributing characters.Item STUDY ON PREVALENCE AND EFFICACY OF ANTIBIOTICS AGAINST SECONDARY BACTERIAL INFECTION OF FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE IN CATTLE IN KURIGRAM DISTRICT(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2017-06) RAHMAN, MD. MIZANUR; Prof. Dr. Md. Fazlul HoqueThe study was carried out to investigate the prevalence and efficacy of commercial antibiotics against FMD virus in cattle in the chars of Kurigram district over a period of six months from October, 2014 to March, 2015. A total of 472 animals were monitored randomly on the basis of age, sex, breed and season. More or less similar affected rate was recorded both in male 12.68% and female 12.73% cattle. There was no statistically significant difference in affected rate of FMD in indigenous cattle by age and sex. The affected rate in animal of different age groups ranged from 16.67% in cattle up to 12 months age, 13.33 % in 13 to 26 months, 12.83% in 27 to 45 months, 12.22% in 46 to 60 months age groups in cattle. The affected rate of FMD increased gradually from 7.69 % in October to 9.72% in November to 16% in December with a peak of 18.88 % in January and then gradually decreased to 15.00% in February to 7.78% in March. The affected rate on the basis of breed indigenous animals were 12.30% and the cross breed animals were 13%. Some commercial antibacterial drugs were used to evaluate their efficacy against secondary bacterial infection in the Foot-and-mouth disease affected cattle. Efficacy of commercial antibiotic treatment was observed in four groups of animals. The Amoxicillin for group A, combined Penicillin + Streptomycin for group B, Oxytetracycline for group C, and soda, potassium permanganate, sohaga and honey for group D. Efficacy results of these antibacterial drugs were compared among the treatment groups on the basis of complete recovery from clinical sings and healing of foot lesions in days required.
