Item Environmental impact assessment due to the urbanization of Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) project area(Department of Civil Engineering, 2003-08) Nazmul Islam, Md.; Mafizur Rahman, Dr. Md.The Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) project is located in the vicinity of Dhaka City in its southeast part, which was a Flood Control Drainage and Irrigation (FCDI) project and completed in late sixties. The area is under increasing pressure of urbanization. As a result instead of agriculture promotion the area which is about 56.8 square miles now converted into an urban area. To identify the impact due to urbanization in DND project area, socio-economic survey was carried out in DND(N) area since the urbanization took place mainly in the North-west part of DND area. Water samples collected from various places and subsequently laboratory test program was undertaken to check the important parameters, which are pH, BOD, COD, Alkalinity, Turbidity, Faecal Coliform, Color and Nitrate value. It has been found that the concentration of these parameters occasionally exceeded the respective permissible values. Considering urban point of view the EIA parameters were chosen and positive and negative impact were considered accordingly. The methodology used for accomplishing EIA due to the urbanization of DND project area is Environmental Evaluation System (EES). Overall environment carry positive values of environmental impacts units (EIUs). A mitigation plan and environmental management plan are incorporated in the report. The zone is likely to be one of the fastest growing over next twenty years and unless rapid action is taken most development will take place in a completely unplanned and haphazard manner. In the study it is observed that the surface water quality in the area of DND deteriorated very much due to the urbanization. As a result of water pollution fisheries production hampered a lot. Though the area was aimed for the improvement of agriculture promotion but in fact the agriculture land reduced due to the urbanization. In the study it is also observed that the drainage and sanitation condition of the area is very poor. Matuail solid waste dumping station is questionable and the location should be changed to some other suitable place. Establishment of an environmental monitoring system for surface and underground water is needed in DND project area. In the study positive impacts also observed like industry, landscape, market and medical facility, etc.Item Phytochemical Screening, Antioxidant, Cytotoxic, Analgesic, Antidiarrheal Activity and GC-MS Analysis of the Leaves of Stachyphrynium Placentarium(2024-10-10) Kumar Das, Ananta; Nazmul Islam, Md.; Islam, Md. Mahmudul; Paul, Prosenjit; Das, Utpaul Chandra; Banik, Ratry; Shuchi, Afifa Tasneem; Mahmud, Md. HasanThe goal of the present study is to analyze the phytochemicals, antioxidants, cytotoxic, analgesic and anti-diarrheal properties of the leaves of Stachyphrynium placentarium methanol extract as well as its dichloromethane soluble fraction using GC-MS technique. The leaves of the S. placentarium were extracted with methanol and designated as SPM. Phytochemicals investigation exhibited the presence of several important secondary metabolites. Antioxidants such as total phenolic content, flavonoids content, total antioxidant, reducing power capacity and DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging assay SPM revealed non-significant antioxidant properties. The cytotoxicity study of the extract showed significant cytotoxicity (LC50 35.1093 µg/mL) compared to standard vincristine sulfate (LC50 0.482 µg/mL). Analgesic study of S. placentarium by hot plate model indicates both the doses exhibited significant central analgesic activity compared with the control. The maximum analgesic activity was observed at 90 min. SPM (500 mg/kg) is 60.21 %. SPM250 also showed a significant percentage of elongation or latency from 30 to 150 min 57.00, 59.64, 59.88, 58.07 and 53.71 %, respectively 30 min time interval. In the acetic acid writhing test, S. placentarium significantly outperformed the control and standard (SPM250 - 52.27 %, SPM500 - 34.09 and STD - 27.27 %), showing a significant increase in peripheral analgesic activity (p < 0.001). Antidiarrheal activity of SPM showed that SPM250 and SPM500 substantially decreased the feces in castor oil-induced diarrhea (p < 0.05). According to the study, the incidence and severity of diarrhea are significantly reduced by SPM500. Four chemicals are found in the dichloromethane-soluble portion of the methanol extract of S. placentarium leaves, according to GC-MS studies such as Octadecane, 6-methyl- (1.326 %), Dodecane (1.02 %), 1-Iodo-2-methylundecane (0.47 %), tetradecanoic acid 12-methyl, methyl ester (72.64 %). Tetradecanoic acid exhibits anti-inflammatory, anticancer, 5-reductase inhibitory, antioxidant, hemolytic and antifibrinolytic properties.Item Reservoir performance analysis of the gas fields of Bangladesh(Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering (PMRE), BUET, 2024-05-28) Nazmul Islam, Md.; Mahbubur Rahman, Dr. MohammedReservoir performance prediction is an iterative process that incorporates various data points, such as production rates, pressure, fluid properties, and geological characteristics. Techniques like decline curve analysis, material balance, and reservoir simulation are commonly used for evaluating a reservoir. The Reserve Performance Indicator (RPI) analyzes parameters such as production rates, pressure data, and fluid properties to evaluate the performance of a reservoir over time. Till now 29 gas fields was discovered in Bangladesh. There isn't any literature or publication that addresses a consistent approach of ranking these reservoirs based on their performance. In this study, an approach is taken to rank the reservoirs according to various indicators used for analyzing the reservoir performance and to identify more prolific and problematic reservoirs. After collecting all the available reports from the public domain (Annual Reports, MIS Reports), reservoirs are ranked by initial reserves, cumulative production (Gas, Condensate), Gas Recovery. The Jalalabad gas field has retrieved more gas than its initial reserve which suggests the necessity of reserve re-estimation. For the majority of discovered fields, the last reserve estimation was completed 14 years ago. Although there is a noticeable reserve in the Kailashtila and Rashidpur fields, just 22.21% and 19.24% of the gas has been recovered, respectively, suggesting that their field development approach is inadequate. Potential gas recovery is possible from these fields. In addition to displaying inadequate development strategies for such fields, only 1 well was drilled in Meghna field during its 26-year production life, while 2 wells were drilled in Narsingdi field over its 27-year production life. Suspended wells of Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, and Kailashtila fields are examined further and the wells of Titas, Bakhrabad, and Kailashtila fields having the potential for workover operation on a priority basis are also identified. Finally, the top 4 fields that are performing well are categorized as Category-I fields, and the 4 fields whose performance was poor and need to change the field development tactics are categorized as Category-II fields.
