    Blood group detection using image processing techniques

    Blood grouping is the first and foremost essentiality for many of the major medical procedures. Traditional ways of detecting blood group have remained analogue in this era of digitization and are therefore susceptible to human fallibility. So it would be very efficient and arguably a lifesaving approach if the process of detecting blood can be completed successfully in a cost-effective way with the technologies at hand and without the plausibility of man-made error. This proposition is expected to evaluate the Rh factor as well as the group of a sample blood with its computed image. The whole process excludes a major probability of human error while detecting the agglutination from the traditional method and it would get the task done within a fairly insignificant amount of time. The procedure will start by taking a photo of the sample blood slide followed by the application of a number of algorithms such as grayscale, binary and canny edge detection on it. After that, the detected edges will be counted and thus we will decide the agglutination. The method is established upon real-time dataset including 100 blood samples of people of different ages. The experimental result is almost accurate compared to the real time results from the sample dataset. It can, therefore, conclude the procedure with certain numeric values which were determined after real-time data analysis of images from a mobile camera, to make it simpler and more precise.

    EFFECT OF HUMIC ACID AND SALICYLIC ACID ON THE GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY IN ONION

    The field experiment was conducted at the Horticulture farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka from October 2019 to February 2020 to find the effect of humic acid and salicylic acid on the growth, yield and quality in onion. The experiment consisted of Factor A: Humic acid doses as H 0 ii - 0 ppm, H 1 - 30 ppm and H 3 - 45 ppm; Factor B: Salicylic acid doses as S 0 - 0 ppm, S 1 - 20 ppm and S 3 - 30 ppm. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. In the case of humic acid and salicylic acid, both H 3 and S 2 showed the best result individually with all aspects of growth and nutrition assimilation in onion. The treatment combination of H 2 provided the highest bulb diameter (3.86 cm), bulb length (2.86 cm), bulb weight (39.50 gm), nitrogen content (2.31 %), phosphorus content (0.85 %), potassium content (1.44 %), sulphur content (0.49 %), total sugar (0.95 %), ascorbic acid content (9.70 mg/100g) and soluble solids (11.40 %) in the bulb of onion. The highest bulb yield (10.92 t ha ) was obtained from 45 ppm humic acid with 30 ppm salicylic acid treatment. So, the application of 45 ppm humic acid with 20 ppm salicylic acid would be the best option to maintain better growth, yield and quality in onion.

    Effect of Maturity on Reflectance Percentage of Bleached and Dyed (Reactive Dye) Cotton Fibre

    Maturities of five cotton fibre samples were measured in Hazi Hashem Spinning Mills Ltd, Narayongonj, Bangladesh on 21 July, 2011. Scouring, bleaching and dyeing of these cotton samples were performed in Delta Knit Composite Ltd., Gazipur, Bangladesh on 30 July, 2011. Reflectances of bleached and dyed samples were measured in Cotton Club (BD) Ltd, Gazipur, Bangladesh on 31 July 2011. It was found that with the increase of maturity, the reflectance percentage of both the bleached and dyed cotton fibres were increased up to a certain value then again decreased for comparatively high matured fibres. The increase of reflectance % are due to the increase of cellulose content in the primary and secondary cell wall whereas lowering of reflectance % after a certain maturity may be due to the formation of interior layer (consisted of mineral salts and proteins) adjacent to the lumen thus reducing the relative amount of cellulose content per unit mass of fibers.
