Item EFFECT OF SOWING DATE AND PHOSPHORUS ON GROWTH, SEED YIELD AND QUALITY OF FENUGREEK(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, 2021) NAHAR, SHAMSUNThe experiment was carried out at the “Horticulture Farm” of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during 10 October 2020 to April 2021 to study the effect of sowing date and phosphorus on growth, seed yield and quality of fenugreek. The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor A: Three sowing date viz., S 1 = 01 November, S 2 = 15 November and S = 30 November and Factor B: Four phosphorus fertilizer level viz., P 0 = Control, P 1 3 = 35 kg P ha -1 , P 2 = 45 kg P ha = 55 kg P ha -1 . The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data were recorded on growth and seed yield of fenugreek and significant variation was observed for most of the studied characters. Growth related data was maximum on S (01 November) treatment but in case of seed yield, S 2 1 (15 November) treatment showed the best result. In case of growth characters, P 3 (55 kg ha -1 ) revealed the best result but in case of seed yield, P ) treatment showed the best result. Under this investigation, it was revealed that the maximum growth was obtained by S 1 P 3 (01 November with 55 kg P ha ) and the minimum growth was obtained by S 3 P (30 November with control) treatment combination. The maximum pods per plant (52.61), seeds per pod (12.87), pod length (10.62 cm), weight of individual pod (147.11 mg), weight of seeds per plant (7.67 g) and weight of 1000-seed (13.86 g), seed yield per plot (306.72 g), seed yield per hectare (2.13 t) and vigor index (570.27) was observed from the treatment combination S 0 (15 November with 45 kg P ha -1 ). On the other hand, the minimum pods per plant (30.25), seeds per pod (9.11), pod length (8.02 cm), weight of individual pod (92.63 mg), weight of seeds per plant (2.70 g) and weight of 1000-seed (9.17 g), seed yield per plot (108.00 g), seed yield per hectare (0.75 t) and vigor index (453.99) was revealed from the S (30 November with control) treatment combination. It was therefore concluded that the combination of sowing date S 2 2 -1 and P (45 kg ha (15 November) along with phosphorus application P (45 kg P ha -1 ) were given the better performance of all the yield contributing parameters and seed yield of fenugreek. So, S 2 P 2 (15 November with 45 kg P ha ) treatment combination can be repeated in different agro ecological zones of Bangladesh.Item INCIDENCE AND ECOFRIENDLY MANAGEMENT OF CAPSICUM FRUIT BORER, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner)(DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, 2022) NAHAR, SHAMSUNAn experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November 2020 to March 2021 to study the incidence and ecofriendly management of Capsicum fruit borer. The experiment consists of control measures and plant extract. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design replicated with four times. For this study having six treatment, viz: Treatment T 1 : Field Sanitation + Netting; T : Field sanitation + rice straw mulch; T 3: 2 Field sanitation + Spinosad (Tracer) @ 0.5ml/L of water at the 7 days intervals; T 4: Black polythene + leaf extract of neem at the 7 days intervals; T : Field sanitation + Neem oil @ 2.0 ml/L of water with detergent at the 7 days intervals; T : control were included in this study. The results showed that the presence of capsicum fruit borers (Helicoverpa armigera Hubner) at various fruiting stages destroys the capsicum fruit contents and is one of the major constraints to increasing bell pepper yields. Thus, for the management of capsicum fruit borer, it was discovered that treatment T (Field sanitation + Spinosad at 7-day intervals) was the most effective treatment for reducing insect pest infestation at all growing stages. While the lowest performance was observed in T 3 6 (Control) was followed by T (Field Sanitation + Netting) treatment. The highest total yield hectare -1 was found from T 1 (23.43 ton), while the lowest yield hectare -1 was found from T 6 2 (19.54 ton) treatment. The yield of capsicum was highly significant (p=0.05), very strong and negatively correlated with infested fruit yield (t/ha) i.e., the total yield of capsicum increased with the infested fruit yield (t/ha) decreased. From the study, it may be concluded that treatment T which comprised with the Field sanitation + Spinosad at the 7 days intervals used as a best treatment against Capsicum fruit borer which was followed by spraying of T 5 3 treatment.Item MANAGEMENT OF BLAST DISEASE (Pyricularia grisea) OF JIRA KATARIBHOG RICE(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2015-06) NAHAR, SHAMSUN; Assistant Professor Md. Shamim HasanEvaluation of various fungicides, disease resistance inducing chemicals and poultry litter against blast disease (Pyricularia grisea Sacc) of rice was conducted at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the period of July-December 2014. A highly susceptible rice variety Jira Kataribhog was transplanted in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications and the application of fungicides viz. Tilt 250EC, Bavistin DF, Trooper 75WP, resistance inducing chemicals viz. Salicylic acid, Riboflavin (B2) and Poultry litter were given thrice at 15-d interval commencing from 30 DAT. Data were collected on number of leaf spot per hill, leaf, neck and node blast severity and yield. The leaf blast intensity was recorded at 37 DAT, 56DAT and 63DAT while the neck blast severity were recorded at 90 and 105 DAT. The highest number of leaf spots per hill at 37, 56 and 63 DAT were found in control (17.00, 19.07, 21.07) and the lowest (6.73, 2.43) were found in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot but found else in Bavistin DF sprayed plot (12.87) at 37 DAT. In case of percent leaf blast severity at 37, 56 and 63 DAT, the highest leaf blast severity were observed in control plot (6.03, 6.07, 6.17) and the lowest was found in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot (1.97, 1.07) except Bavistin DF sprayed plot (3.53) at 37 DAT. The results revealed that percent decrease of leaf blast severity was the highest (82.66) in Trooper 75WP sprayed plots over control. The highest percent infected necks (6.40%, 5.10%) were observed in control plots and the lowest (2.53%, 1.80%) were in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot. The percent infected node were recorded at 105 DAT where the highest percent infected node (5.20%) was found in control and the lowest infected node (1.73%) was recorded in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot. The yield loss were calculated and found the highest yield loss (3.65%) in control and the lowest yield loss (1.44%) in Trooper sprayed plot. The 1000-grain weight was the highest in Trooper sprayed plot (11.41g) and the lowest in control plot (9.86 g). Moreover, the highest yield per plot (3.63 Kg) was recorded in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot and the lowest yield (2.67 Kg) was obtained from control plot and the highest yield (4.54 t/ha) was recorded in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot and the lowest yield (3.33 t/ha) was obtained in control plot. The highest yield increase was obtained 36.34% in Trooper 75WP sprayed plot over control. Finally it may be concluded that Trooper 75WP contributed effectively in controlling blast disease of Jira Kataribhog rice with focusing very significantly higher yield.
