Natural or synthetic chemicals in the fibres can interfere with wetting and dyeing performance. Hence preparation is the series of processes used to remove these chemicals for the effective coloration and finishing of textile materials. By the good preparation of a material it is possible to produce an even and regular colour on the material with facing least difficulties. The aim of this paper is to determine the weight loss percentage after bleaching of different cellulose fabrics with various bleaching agents. For this investigation commercially available three types of cellulose fabrics such as plain weave, single jersey and (1x1) rib have been chosen. Weights of these fabrics were calculated before and after bleaching with two different bleaching agents such as sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen per oxide. From the weight variations, weight loss percentages of these three fabrics have been calculated and after the completion of this investigation weight loss percentages were found to be less after using hydrogen peroxide as compared to sodium hypochlorite.Item EFFECTS OF SAND BLASTING WITH INDUSTRIAL ENZYME SILICON WASH ON DENIM APPAREL CHARACTERISTICS(Daffodil International University, 2010-01-01) Mazumder, SumonWashing is one of the most important finishing treatments applied on apparels that have great usage to create special outlooks and improving the fashion. Technologically denim washing is the most important fashion element for clothing industry. Usually the term ‘washing’ is most significantly applied in case of sewn apparels so it is very essential to observe the effects that have been made by particular washing on the fabrics to hold the qualities of sewn apparels. The aim of this paper is to determine the effects of sand blasting with industrial enzyme silicon wash on denim apparel characteristics. For this investigation currently fashionable regular denim (100% cotton with twill 3/1 weave construction) trouser was chosen. The selected denim trouser has been processed by enzyme and silicon washes after sand blasting. In order to evaluate the washing effects on denim trouser, changes of fabric handle, fabric specification (ends/inch, picks/inch, surface density, warp & weft yarn linear density), fabric strength, seam strength & fabric stiffness has been determined after sandblasting with enzyme silicon wash.Item Productivity improvement in readymade garments industry: a case study(Department of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE), 2014-06) Mazumder, Sumon; Dhar, Dr. Nikhil RanjanIn case of readymade garments (RMG) industries, productivity improvement is a vital to decrease the production lead time as well as manufacturing cost. For productivity improvement it becomes essential to decrease the waiting time, process bottlenecks and increase the production line efficiency. Time study and line balancing are effective techniques to reduce the operation time and improve the productivity. Time study was performed in a furniture industry to increase its production efficiency and reduce the operation time and associated cost. Assembly line balancing technique was also used in some manufacturing industries for single production line to identify and remove the nonvalue added activities and increase the productivity. But, it becomes essential to apply time study and line balancing techniques for the number of production lines of various products in small and large RMG industries to improve its productivity. In this work, time study is performed on four different products of RMG industries and production lines are balanced through the distribution of works among the work stations by line balancing. Thus, new production layouts are modeled with the balanced capacity combining both modular line and traditional manufacturing system together. In new production systems, 6-64% production lead time is decreased for 27-78% reduction of waiting time, 10-179% improvement of labor productivity and 6-130% improvement of machine productivity for four products. Possible problem areas in the industries are identified by fishbone analysis and strength, weakness, opportunities and threats for productivity improvement were also identified by SWOT analysis. This research report provides pragmatic guidelines for the garments manufacturers to improve their industrial productivity and capacity by applying some essential tools like time study, line balancing and fishbone analysis.
