Comparison of Performances of Machine Learning Techniques in Healthcare Data

Due to the increasing prevalence of diabetes and cancer, it is an urgent need to develop automated system that helps to detect disease using one of the modern technologies. Nowadays, Machine Learning (ML)-based methods have become very popular as an automatically model building techniques. Despite of the rapid development of theories for computational intelligence, application of ML-based classifiers to diabetes and cancer diagnosis remains a challenging issue. Still these ML-based classifiers did not give a satisfactory accuracy and therfore cannot correctly classify healthcare data like diabetes and cancer patients. Because most of the diabetes and cancer dataset are complex in nature and contains missing values, unusual observations, multi-collinearity problems and so on. In most of the existing research, the researcher did not use feature selection (FS) techniques to identify the risk factors of cancer and diabetes disease. They applied limited classifiers to classify and predict the diabetes and cancer status but they did not tune the hyper parameter of the classifiers, as a result, their accuracy and AUC were low. Thus, an attempt has been made in this study to increase the accuracy of the classifiers in diabetes and cancer data by considering the above factors in ML-based algorithm. The main objective of this study is to comparison the performances of ML-based methods in healthcare data and suggests the best model with better performance compared to the models published in the existing research.-----
Corporate Governance of Publicly Traded Manufacturing Companies in Bangladesh

Corporate governance has become a burning issue in the corporate finance literature and draws attention from corporate policymakers around the globe owing to many scams and collapses recorded in corporate houses. CG mechanisms act as a guide in the hands of corporate policymakers to regulate corporate entities and enhance corporate performance. Many studies have been conducted on corporate governance issues using a developed country setting but a few studies are available in the literature that investigated corporate governance issues using the developing country setting. The population of this study has included all the DSE listed manufacturing companies from 2006-17. BSEC promulgated the corporate governance code of best practice in 2006 and revised it later in 2012. Hence, the study tried to recognize the impacts of CG mechanisms on performance by dividing the study period into two stories, the first one from 2006-11 and the other one from 2012-17. The research framework explains how CG mechanisms- internal and external-can influence corporate financial performance. The internal corporate governance mechanisms are board size, board independence, board audit committee size, female directorship, CEO duality, and ownership concentration. The external corporate governance mechanisms are institutional ownership, financial leverage, and SEC guidelines. The control variables are the firm size and firm age. The dependent variable is corporate financial performance measured by Tobin’s Q and ROA. This study is empirical in nature and explains several theories, such as agency theory, institutional theory, stakeholder theory, resource dependency theory, stewardship theory, political economy theory, social theory, trade-off theory, and M-M theorem. COVID-19 has become one of the few leading causes of death and has evolved into a pandemic that disrupts everyone’s routine, and balanced way of life worldwide, and will continue to do so. To bring an end to this pandemic, scientists had put their all effort into discovering the vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 infection. For their dedication, now, we have a handful of COVID-19 vaccines. Worldwide, millions of people are at risk due to the current pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2). Despite the lack of clinically authorized antiviral medications and vaccines for COVID-19, clinical trials of many recognized antiviral agents, their combination, and vaccine development in patients with confirmed COVID-19 are still ongoing. This discovery gave us a chance to get immune to this disease worldwide and end the pandemic. However, the unexpected capacity of mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus makes it difficult, like the recent SAS-CoV-2 Omicron variant. Therefore, there is a great necessity to spread the vaccination programs and prevent the spread of this dreadful epidemic by identifying and isolating afflicted patients. Furthermore, several COVID-19 tests are thought to be expensive, time-consuming, and require the use of adequately qualified persons to be carried out efficiently. In addition, we also conversed about how the various COVID-19 testing methods can be implemented for the first time in a developing country and their cost-effectiveness, accuracy, human resources requirements, and laboratory facilities.

Microfinance in the Brahmaputra-Jamuna chars: the context, the providers and way forward

Informal financial sources dominate the financial landscape of the char areas in ways distinct from the mainland areas of rural Bangladesh. Microfinance in the char areas has not even scratched the surface of the first and basic microfinance challenge - outreach. However, the challenges of expanding outreach and developing innovative products and delivery mechanisms go hand is hand in the char areas, in a way that is distinct from the general mainland rural Bangladesh. This is because investments in a core product and methodology experimentation that works, for the most part, in mainland rural Bangladesh w<1s already undertaken by Grameen and other microfinance pioneers, such as BRAC and ASA. This is not the case for the char areas. Good microfinancing in the char areas would involve significant investment in building knowledge and capacity. High chances of selection and frequent seasonal migration are two important features of char dwellers' livelihood. Incomings into the household is usually much less regular than it is on the mainland and a large proportion of income come in lumps from seasonal migration. Livestock earning is the most regular among the common sources from which char dwellers derive their income. However, poor price, lack of timely and cost effective veterinary sen·ices, livestock fodder and safety problems during flood periods, etc. pose significant challenges to this important sector for the char dwellers. Opportunities to engage in activities that will smoothen the income flow is restricted by difficulties of market access and general decline in the adjoining mainland....
