Item A Multifactor Authentication Model to Mitigate the Phishing Attack of E-Service Systems from Bangladesh Perspective(Scopus, 2020) Hasan, Md. Zahid; Sattar, Abdus; Mahmud, Arif; Talukder, Khalid HasanA new multifactor authentication model has been proposed for Bangladesh taking cost-effectiveness in primary concern. We considered two-factor authentications in our previous e-service models which were proven to be insufficient in terms of phishing attack. Users often fail to identify phishing site and provide confidential information unintentionally, resulting in a successful phishing attempt. As a result, phishing can be considered as one of the most serious issues and required to be addressed and mitigated. Three factors were included to form multifactor authentication, namely, user ID, secured image with caption, and one-time password. Through the survey, the proposed multifactor model is proven to be better by 59% points for total users which comprises 55% points for technical users and 64% points for nontechnical users in comparison to traditional two-factor authentication model. Since the results and recommendations from the user were reflected in the model, user satisfaction was achieved.Item Application and Criminalization of Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Society(Scopus, 2021) Mahmud, ArifWe are living in a technology-based digital society where the application of autonomous machines and artificial intelligence (AI) is growing rapidly and is having an impact on our social life and the public sphere. Like many other technologies, AI will open new doors for criminals, and consequently, social security has been threatened by different modes of AI criminalization. It is imposing a complex challenge to frame an effective regulatory framework. This article provided a structured literature analysis of the application and criminalization of AI by recommending principles for countering the regulatory challenges and protect the right of individuals.Item Application and Criminalization of the Artificial Intelligence in Business(Daffodil International University, 2022-06-19) Mahmud, ArifArtificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a significant role in our social and daily life for technological development. The efficient integration of AI into business organizations or firms is improving performance and efficiency on a significant scale. Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) is assisting criminal activities or committing crimes through autonomous activity related to business, e-commerce, and market manipulation. AI could be used to aid criminal activity or, in certain situations, a mistake has resulted in criminal activity and most of the fields lack strong legislative safeguards due to the regulatory challenges imposed by the special nature of AI-Crime (AIC). The paper has examined the application and criminalization of AI in business and firm management. As we will have to strengthen the legislation for managing, preventing, and punishing AI-based business-related crimes, the last segment of the paper has suggested recommendations to counter the regulatory challenges.Item Application and Criminalization of the Artificial Intelligence in Business(Taylor & Francis Group, 2022-05-27) Mahmud, ArifArtificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a significant role in our social and daily life for technological development. Zaidi; Mahmud, Arif; Rahman, Ashikur; Mahmud, Imran; Akter, RozinaPurpose Existing literature affirms that almost half of the young generation has remained unemployed worldwide. On the contrary civic engagement can be a powerful tool in combating this problem. However, the influencing factors that encourage the active participation of young adults yet to be identified. The purpose of this paper is to fill the research gap by creating and validating a research model by including three motives social presence commitment and online offline civic engagement. Design/methodology/approach The study took a quantitative approach to conduct a cross-sectional study. In total, 214 data were collected from the member of a Facebook group of Bangladesh named Foodbank, a restaurant review page through the online questionnaire. After that structural equation modelling techniques have been used to analyse the data, test the model validity and hypothesis. Findings The result shows that both commitment and social presence influence offline and online civic engagement. Excitement motives have a higher effect than information and convenience motive. Besides, 8 out of 10 hypotheses have shown significant results, with only the convenience motive not having any positive influence and effect on social presence and commitment. Practical implications Almost 47.6 out of 158.5 million are young people who are incapable of contributing fully to national development due to a lack of civic engagement. The outcome of this study will be useful for the Government of Bangladesh, as well as for non-governmental organisations and decision-making authorities to form assessments and develop policy on how to engage the young generation in civic activities to achieve further socio-economic development in the country. Originality/value This study contributes to existing literature with newly developed relationships between social presence-civic engagement and commitment-civic engagement. These unique relationships have been empirically tested and resulted insignificant. The study also identifies that it is vital to engage young people more in social works and increase their participation in offline and online activities.Item Civic Engagement through Restaurant Review Page in Facebook(International Journal of Ethics and Systems, Emerald Publishing, 2021-04-03) Satter, A.K.M. Tanjid; Akter, Nasrin; Mahmud, ArifClimate change's effects are becoming more apparent, and farmers are bearing the brunt of the consequences. As a result, by 2050, food production is expected to decline by 18%. Therefore, the study's goal is to develop effective and well-organized roadmap for context-based smart agricultural systems using a pre-determined ICT framework. Following that, this study offers a four-level conceptual framework for an e-services-based smart agro system utilizing internet of things (IoT). Here, each level optimizes the IoT infrastructure to accept e-services based on contextual information supplied by the e-services. Furthermore, the proposed ICTization process intends to broaden the role of ICT technology development. Besides, the system's views decrease misunderstandings about technology, growth, and connectivity while also enhancing raw data, administration, and service synchronization. Farmers, agricultural officers, and network operators, for example, are all included in the proposed roadmap, which includes omnipresent farm treatment services. Precision farming, on the other hand, need new knowledge and innovation in order to achieve an integrated and comprehensive approach to technology.Item Generation Z’s Adoption of IoT: Protection Motivation Theory As the Underlying Model and Gender as a Moderator(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2023-06-12) Mahmud, Arif; Yusoff, Mohd Najwadi; Husin, Mohd HeikalPurpose The factors that motivate Generation Z individuals to use the Internet of Things for security purposes have yet to be explored. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to close a research gap by verifying the protection motivation theory using gender as a moderator. Design/methodology/approach The authors used a purposive sampling approach to collect data from Dhaka city, in which 370 valid responses were selected. Additionally, the quantitative and cross-sectional survey used a seven-point Likert scale. Afterward, the evaluation approach included three phases: a measurement model, a structural model and multi-group analysis. Findings Vulnerability, self-efficacy and response-efficacy were discovered to be critical predictors with a variance of 60.4%. Moreover, there was a significant disparity between males and females in two relationships, response efficacy and intention as well as response cost and intention. Practical implications This research expands our understanding of Generation Z consumers' behavioral intentions to take measures against household threats, allowing preventative programs to be improved. Further, in the case of applying coping strategies, a practical difference between males and females has been found that must be bridged through awareness campaigns. Originality/value This study has made a unique contribution to the information system literature. First, the role of protection motivation theory factors in addressing security concerns in homes has been assessed. Second, the coping evaluation process has a greater impact on users' intentions than the threat appraisal process. However, males and females use slightly different approaches to defending themselves against the threat.Item IoT Adoption by the Young Consumer(Daffodil International University, 2022-09-13) Mahmud, Arif; Yusoff, Mohd Najwadi; Husin, Mohd HeikalHome theft and burglary are prevalent in Dhaka city. Internet of things (IoT), in contrast, is commonly recognized as among the most advanced home security systems. However, the factors that attract young people to use IoT for household security have yet to be examined. Consequently, the purpose of this article is to validate the attitude-social influence-self-efficacy (ASE) model with personal innovativeness and perceived trust. We col- lected data from Dhaka citizens aged 15 to 24 using a purposive sample technique and 370 valid responses were chosen for the study. According to the analysis, all of our proposed hypotheses were found significant with a 73.6% variance. Furthermore, the effects of attitude and social influence were shown to be the highest and lowest, respectively, and trust and innovativeness were both nearly strong main predictors of ASE. Significantly, since this is one of the few studies in the technology adoption domain using this model, a solid foundation for IoT adoption for security purposes is established.Item Is the Digital Security Act 2018 Sufficient To Avoid Cyberbullying in Bangladesh? A Quantitative Study on Young Women From Generation-Z of Dhaka City(Elsevier, 2023-05-03) Mahmud, Arif; Sweety, Jannatul Bakia; Hossain, Aftab; Husin, Mohd HeikalCyberbullying has yet to be thoroughly investigated from the perspective of Gen-Z women, and it is vital to determine how this law influences these young women to avoid cyberbullying. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to fill a knowledge vacuum by confirming the technology threat avoidance theory utilizing both adaptive (avoidance motivation) and maladaptive (wishful thinking) approaches. Design/methodology/approach To gather data from Gen-Z women in Dhaka, we employed a purposive sampling strategy, which yielded 252 valid replies. After that, there were three steps to the evaluation: a measuring model, a structural model, and a mediation analysis. Findings Seven out of ten hypotheses were found to be significant, with variances of 73.4% and 10.5% for avoidance motivation and wishful thinking, respectively. Furthermore, rather than having a direct influence on coping approaches, the perceived threat had an indirect effect through the mediation effect of perceived avoidability. Practical implications This study takes into account Gen-Z women's motivation to be protected from cyberbullying, paving the way for the passage of the digital security act 2018. The data also reveal how to teach these young ladies about the threats of cyberbullying and how to defend themselves. Originality/value This is one of the first studies to look at the factors that influence Gen-Z women's motivation to use the digital security act 2018 to address cyberbullying. In addition, wishful thinking has been newly included as an emotional coping strategy in this context, along with the present avoidance motivation of TTAT.Item Merging the Communication Protocols 6LoWPAN-CoAP and RPL-CoAP(1st International Conference on Advances in Science, Engineering and Robotics Technology 2019, ICASERT 2019, IEEE, 2019-12-19) Mahmud, Arif; Hossain, Faria; Juhin, Faija; Choity, Tasnim AraIoT can prolong the internet communication to heterogeneous types of objects those are used within embedded technology to join with the surrounding through the active support of internet technology.
