Item GROWTH AND YIELD OF AUS RICE AS AFFECTED BY AGRONOMIC MANAGEMENTS(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2017) MAHMUD, MD. HASANThe experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from March to June, 2018 to study the effects of agronomic managements on growth and yield of Aus rice. The experiment comprised as two factors having two varieties in the main plots and five agronomic managements in the sub-plots under split-plot design with three replications. Significant variation was recorded for weed severity, different yield contributing characters and yield of Aus rice. The lowest weed population (26.67 m -2 ) and weed dry weight (1.96 g m -2 ) was recorded in M (recommended management) and M 2 (no fertilizer application), respectively, whereas the highest weed population (520.70 m -2 ) was found in the M (no management) but the highest dry weight (329.90 g m -2 ) in M (no weeding) treatment. At 30, 50, 70 DAS and harvest the taller plant (24.61 cm, 41.27 cm, 60.23 cm and 80.28 cm, respectively), grain yield (0.96 t ha -1 1 ) and straw yield (2.75 t ha -1 ) were recorded from V 2 compared to that of V . Similarly the tallest plant (27.11 cm, 49.66 cm, 71.49 cm and 91.07 cm at 30, 50, 70 DAS and harvest, respectively), grain yield (2.34 t ha -1 1 ) and straw yield (5.30 t ha ) were observed from M 4 . In respect of interaction, the highest grain yield (2.43 t ha ) and straw yield (5.31 t ha -1 ) were observed from V 1 M (BRRI dhan65 with recommended management), while the lowest grain yield (0.12 t ha 4 ) from V 1 M 0 (BRRI dhan65 with no management) and straw yield (0.85 t ha ) from V 2 M (Nerica with no management). Irrespective of variety, no management reduced 94-95% grain yield of Aus rice that was 84-89% for no weeding and no fertilizer application.Item YIELD AND AROMATIC QUALITY OF FRAGRANT RICE AS INFLUENCED BY NITROGEN AND SULPHUR FERTILIZERS(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2020) MAHMUD, MD. HASANThe study was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during June to December 2018 to assess the yield and aromatic quality of fragrant rice influence of nitrogen and sulphur fertilizers. BRRI dhan34 was selected as variety for the experiment. The experiment 1 consisted of two factors: Factor A: Levels of nitrogen (4 levels) as- N , N 2 : 41.47 kg N ha -1 , N 3 : 46.08 kg N ha -1 , N 4 : 50.69 kg N ha -1 1 and Factor B: Levels of sulphur (4 levels) as- S 1 : 6.4 kg S ha -1 , S 2 : 7.2 kg S ha -1 , S 3 : 36.87 kg N ha : 8.0 kg S ha : 8.8 kg S ha -1 . The experiment was laid out in split-plot design with three replications placing N levels in the main plot and sulphur in the sub-plot. Data were recorded on growth characters, yield and quality. Statistically significant variations were recorded for most of the characters due to different treatments. Nitrogen and/or sulphur levels had significant effect on effective tillers, filled grains, weight of 1000 grains, grain yield, milled rice, protein content, amylose content, proline content and grain 2-AP content. Maximum 1000 grain weight and grain yield were found from N Protein and Zn content showed as increasing trends with increasing N levels while amylose, proline and grain 2-AP content decreased with the same. Results of S levels revealed that protein and Zn contents decreased with increasing levels whereas, amylose, proline and grain 2-AP content increased with increasing S levels. Among the treatment combinations, the highest 1000 grains weight (12.13-13.21 g) and yield (4.92-5.48 t ha -1 ) significantly recorded from N 2 S 1 , N 2 S 2 , N 2 S 3 and N The highest protein content (9.03%) was recorded from N 4 S 2 2 S 4. -1 and S and the lowest (7.40%) was in N . The highest amylose content (27.0%) was recorded from N 1 S and the lowest (14.73%) was from N 4 S 1 . The maximum proline content (24.0 mg g 4 dry weight) was recorded from N 1 S 2 while the lowest (16.67 mg g -1 -1 2 . dry weight) was in N . The highest grain 2-AP content (0.980 µg g -1 dry weight) was recorded from N and the lowest (0.493 µg g -1 dry weight) was found from N 4 S . The fertilizer levels 41.47 kg N ha -1 and 6.4 kg S ha -1 1 showed the best performance when considered yield and in case of amylose, proline and grain 2-AP content, 36.87 kg N ha and 8.8 kg S ha -1 produced good aromatic quality of rice .
