Item EFFECT OF BIOCHAR AND VERMICOMPOST ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF EXPORT AND PROCESSING POTATO(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2020) KARIM, MD. REZAULThe field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy research field, Sher-e- Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka from November 2019 to February 2020 in Rabi season to find out the effect of biochar and vermicompost on yield and quality of export and processing potato. The experiment had two factors. Factor A: Biochar: 4 levels; B 1 : 2.50 t ha⁻ ¹, B 2 ii : 5.00 t ha⁻ ¹, B 3 : 7.50 t ha⁻ ¹ and B : 10.00 t ha⁻ ¹ and Factor B: Vermicompost: 4 levels; V 1 : 2.50 t ha⁻ ¹, V : 5.00 t ha⁻ ¹, V 3 : 7.50 t ha⁻ ¹ and V : 10.00 t ha⁻ ¹. The variety was BARI Alu-29 (Courage). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three (3) replications. The different levels of biochar and vermicompost individually and in combination had significant effect on most of the growth, yield and quality contributing parameters of potato. Most of the parameters studied in this experiment were increased with the increasing biochar and vermicompost levels. The biochar level of 7.5 t ha⁻ ¹ produced the maximum yield per plant (270.915 g) whereas, the lowest yield per plant (217.33 g) was obtained from 2.50 t ha⁻ ¹ of biochar application. Similarly, the highest yield plant −1 4 (270 g) was achieved from 10.0 t ha⁻ ¹ of vermicompost application whereas, the lowest yield plant −1 (223.42 g) was found from 2.50 t ha⁻ ¹ of vermicompost application. Among the 16 treatment combinations, the maximum average tuber weight (26.60 g) was produced in B while the minimum average tuber weight (17.36 g) was observed in B 1 V treatment. The highest tuber yield (292.00 g) was recorded in B 3 V 4 1 treatment combination. The highest marketable yield (262.80 g) was recorded in B 3 V combination treatment. In case of dry matter and starch content, biochar @ 10 t ha⁻ ¹ produced the best performance compared to other doses when 10 t ha⁻ ¹ of vermicompost were applied in combination. Although the application of 10 ha⁻ ¹ biochar and 10 ha⁻ ¹ vermicompost showed the maximum yield and quality attributes but the combination of 7.5 ha⁻ ¹ biochar and 7.5 ha⁻ ¹ vermicompost is suitable for producing higher yield and good quality potato. So, this combination could be recommended for getting higher tuber yield,good quality and economically more profitable for farmers.Item EFFECTS OF SULPHUR CONTAINING AMINO ACID AND COPPER ON GROWTH AND HEMATOBIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN BROILER(Dept. of Parasitology, 2015-06) KARIM, MD. REZAULThe present research was undertaken on “Cobb 500 (Nourish Farms)” broilers to observe the effect of copper and sulphur containing amino acid on growth (body weight and organ weight), hematological (TEC, ESR, PCV and Hb) and biochemical parameters e.g. aspertate amino transferase (AST) and alanine amino transferase (ALT) of growing broilers. Twenty one days old of 20 broilers were assigned into 4 groups (n=5) – T0, T1, T2 and T3. Birds of group T0 was considered as control and fed with only standard commercial broiler ration, Group T1 was supplemented with 10% amino acid, Group T2 with copper sulfate (400 ppm) and Group T3 was treated with 10% amino acid and copper sulfate (400 ppm). Pure drinking water was made available for the birds. Both the body and selective organ/weights increased significantly (p<0.05)/5 in group T1 and T2. The haematological parameters like total erythrocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, packed cell volume and haemoglobin content increased significantly (p<0.01) in all treated groups. Significantly decreased (p<0.01) Aspertate amino transferase and Alanine amino transferase are observed in group T2. The results of the present work revealed that copper sulfate and sulphur containing amino acid supplementation have positive effect on growth and haematological parameters (total erythrocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, packed cell volume and haemoglobin content) and serum amino transferases.Item IN VITRO MICROPROPAGATION OF BANANA(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2005) KARIM, MD. REZAULThe present study was conducted at the Biotechnology Laboratory, Biotechnology Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur during the period from September, 2004 to June, 2005 to investigate the effect of different concentrations of BAP and NAA on virus free plant regeneration, shoot multiplication and different concentrations of IBA and IAA on in vitro root formation ofbanana cv. BARI-I. The culture meristem first turned brown in colour in 4-5 days and after 30-50 days later a green globular hard coat mass grow to be round in shape producing a ball like structure. From this ball like structure adventitious plantlets were developing. Among the different concentration 7.5 mgl," BAP + 0.5 mgl," NAA showed the highest shoot proliferation 0.75, 2.75 and 6.25 shoots per explant at 10, 20 and 30 DAI respectively. The longest shoot was produced by the treatment concentration 7.5 mgl," BAP + 0.5 mgl," NAA treatment (1.03, 2.45 and 3.38 cm) at 10, 20 and 30 DAI respectively. The maximum number of leaves (2.50, 3.25 and 7.00 leaves/explant at 10, 20 and 30 DAI) produced on the medium supplemented with 7.5 mgl," BAP and 0.50 mgl," NAA. The longest leaves was produced by the treatment concentration 7.5 mgl," BAP + 0.5 mgl," NAA treatment (0.85, 2. 70 and 4.23 cm at 10, 20 and 30 DAI) respectively. For root initiation half strength MS medium supplemented with different levels of IBA (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.50 rngl.") and IAA (0, 0.5 and 1.0 mgL"1) in order to allow root formation. Root numbers varied with different concentrations of IBA and IAA. The highest number of roots were produced by 0.5 mgl." IAA + 0.5 mgl," IBA (3.50, 4.50 and 6.50 per explant respectively). The highest length was observed at 10, 20 and 30 DAI in the treatment concentration 0.5 mgl," IAA and IBA (2.93, 4.63 and 5.88 cm) which was statistically significant. Meristem derived plantlet transferred to polybags containing 1 : 1 (ground soil : cowdung) mixture after 7 days hardening in room temperature (28-30°C) and established plantlet is ready for planting.Item LOAN REPAYMENT BEHAVIOR OF FEMALE BORROWERS OF BRAC IN SANTHIA BRANCH UNDER PABNA DISTRICT(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2006) KARIM, MD. REZAULBased on the finding. loan repayment behavior of female borrowers was assessed in this study. The objectives of the study were I) to discuss the socio-economic characteristics of the female borrowers 2) to assess the loan repayment behavior of the female borrowers 3) to explore the relationship between each of the selected characteristics of the female borrowers and their loan repay ment behavior 4) lo identify rhe problems faced by the female borrowers in repaying loan to BRAC. The study was conducted at San th ta Thana of Pabna district. The population of the study was 1000 female borrowers from which a sample of 100 female borrowers was selected using a proportionate sampling technique. Data were collected through face-to-face interview ing of their respondent from September 02 to October 02. 2006. It was found that age. education. family size and organizational participation of the female borrowers had no significant relationship with the loan repayment behavior while land tenure, annual income, annual expenditure and attitude towards the BRAC loan had significant relationship with their loan repayment behavior. The findings reveal that 26% of the female borrowers repaid their loan regularly. 53°·0 of the femaJc borrowers were mecliurn paid group and only 21 ° o of the borrowers were irregular paid group. Based on the loan Repayment Problem Index, it was observed the .. Money to repa)' loan often not available .. was ranked l ·• followed by "Sudden hazard due to natural calamities" was ranked 2"J .. less profit received from sales produce" was ranked 3rd.Item THE DIETARY EFFECT OF GARLIC, ZINGER AND BLACK PEPPER ON EGG PRODUCTION, YOLK CHOLESTEROL AND FECAL MICROBIAL STATUS OF LAYER STRAIN IN BANGLADESH(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2016-11) KARIM, MD. REZAULThe experiment was conducted from January-April 2015 at the poultry farm under the Dairy and poultry science department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur to investigate the effects of feeding three medicinal herbs extracts (black peper, garlic and ginger) to Hisex brown layer chicken on their cholesterol metabolism, antibacterial activity and productivity. In this feeding trial, total 4-month experiment period, 60 Hi-sex brown laying hens (age 20 weeks) were assigned to five dietary treatments with three replication of four (4) birds in each. Diets were supplied with T0 (control), T1 (Black pepper 0.5gm/kg, Ginger 1.00 gm/kg and Garlic 1.00 gm/kg), T2 (Black pepper 1.00 gm/kg, Ginger 1.50 gm/kg and Garlic 1.50 gm/kg), T3 (Black pepper 1.50 gm/kg, Ginger 2.00 gm/kg and Garlic 2.00 gm/kg) and T4 (Black pepper 2.00 gm/kg, Ginger 2.50 gm/kg and Garlic 2.50 gm/kg) sun-dried Black pepper, Ginger and Garlic powder mixed meal. Data obtained on final average body weight indicated that there was no positive correlation between body weight and food consumption. Feed conservation ratio (FCR) was the highest in T4 (2.01) compared with other group. Egg production was more or less similar all of treatment group. Data obtained on egg weight expressed as maximum level in T2 (65.80 gm) than the other feeds fed group but almost similar to diet. Egg mass were statistically similar in all groups. Shape index were found to be highest at diet with T2 (81.01 %) but almost same to all other feed groups. Shell thicknesses were indifferent with diet at T0 (0.40 mm), T1 (0.41 mm), T2 (0.43 mm) T3 (0.41 mm) and T4 (0.42 mm) in the diet. Data obtained on albumin index exhibited maximum level in diet with T4 (8.44 percent) than the other feeds fed group but almost similar to diet with T0 (8.36 percent), T1 (8.40 percent) and T2 (8.00 percent) and T3 (8.42). The yolk index, Haugh unit values were found to be almost the same with diet. Data obtained on egg yolk cholesterol exhibited a higher level in control group (13.8 mg/gm) and lower in diet at T2 (8.99 mg/gm). In the present study, supplementation of Black pepper, Ginger and Garlic powder mix in the diet of laying hens significantly (P<0.01) decreased the population of harmful bacterium, E. coli, as well as total cultivable bacteria than those of control (T0).Item WATER RELATIONS AND YIELD OF FOUR MUNGBEAN CULTIVARS UNDER DIFFERENT DATE OF SOWING(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) KARIM, MD. REZAULThe experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University farm, Dhaka during the kharif -1 season from March to June, 2010 to study the water relations and yield of four mungbean cultivars under different date of sowing. The treatment consisted of four mungbean varieties viz., V 1 = BARI mung- 4, V = BARI mung- 5, V 3 = BARI mung- 6, V = BU mung- 4, and three sowing date, viz., S 1 = 9 March, S 2 = 24 March, S 3 4 = 8 April. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Variety had significant influence on relative water content (RWC), exudation rate (ER); stem, leaf, root and total dry matter; pod length, pods per plant, seeds per pod, 1000seed weight, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index. BARI mung- 4 showed the highest seed yield showing the highest value of yield parameters and harvest index, RWC and ER, whereas, BU mung-4 produced the lowest seed yield. Sowing date also influenced significantly the mentioned parameters. Mungbean sowing on 24 March produced the highest seed yield followed by the sowing on 9 March and 8 April by producing the highest value of yield parameters, biological yield, RWC and ER. Among the interactions, BARI mung-4 sowing on 24 March produced the highest seed yield. 2
