Item 2. Antimicrobial activities of isolated probiotics and their metabolites against some pathogenic microorganisms(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2017-06-01) Abu Sayeed, Mohammed; Repon Saha, Altaf Hossen; Jakaria, Md.The study was aimed to finding the antimicrobial activities among probiotics isolated from different yoghurts and their metabolites against some common bacterial pathogens. The nutrient agar media overlay method (Disc diffusion Method) was used to determine the presence of antibacterial effects among the isolated probiotics. Probiotics produced potential antibacterial activities against several pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The maximum antibacterial property (13.5 mm of zone of inhibition) of bacterial strain found against Salmonella paratyphi. Conversly, bacterial metabolites produced maximum effect (10.3 mm of zone of inhibition) against Staphylocuccos aureaus. The antibacterial effect is one of the most important criteria for probiotics selection, and the verified antibacterial activities of the probiotics supports the development of these functional foods as a key to the enhancement of health in the consuming public.Item Antimicrobial activities of isolated probiotics and their metabolites against some pathogenic microorganisms(CRP, International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh, 2017-06) Sayeed, Mohammed Abu; Hossen, Altaf; Saha, Repon; Jakaria, Md.The study was aimed to finding the antimicrobial activities among probiotics isolated from different yoghurts and their metabolites against some common bacterial pathogens. Sahab; Rahman, Md. Motiar; Jakaria, Md.; Rahman, Md. Sohanur; Hossain, Md. Sarwar; Islam, Ariful; Ahmed, Muniruddin; Mathew, Bijo; Omar, Ulfat Mohammed; Barreto, George E.; Ashraf, Ghulam MdEstrogens play a crucial physiological function in the brain; however, debates exist concerning the role of estrogens in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Women during pre-, peri-, or menopause periods are more susceptible for developing AD, suggesting the connection of sex factors and a decreased estrogen signaling in AD pathogenesis. Yet, the underlying mechanism of estrogen-mediated neuroprotection is unclarified and is complicated by the existence of estrogen-related factors. Consequently, a deeper analysis of estrogen receptor (ER) expression and estrogen-metabolizing enzymes could interpret the importance of estrogen in age-linked cognitive alterations. Previous studies propose that hormone replacement therapy may attenuate AD onset in postmenopausal women, demonstrating that estrogen signaling is important for the development and progression of AD. For example, ERα exerts neuroprotection against AD by maintaining intracellular signaling cascades and study reported reduced expression of ERα in hippocampal neurons of AD patients. Similarly, reduced expression of ERβ in female AD patients has been associated with abnormal function in mitochondria and improved markers of oxidative stress. In this review, we discuss the critical interaction between estrogen signaling and AD. Moreover, we highlight the potential of targeting estrogen-related signaling for therapeutic intervention in AD.Item General banking of Al-Arafah Islami Bank limited(BRAC University, 12/31/2015) Jakaria, Md.; Arifuzzaman, S. M.Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited is scheduled commercial bank registered by the Bangladesh Bank. In this study, a randomized back-propagation neural network model is developed for fonnation permeability prediction. The model has only one hiddenlayer, and tbe inputs to the model are core porosity, facies identifier, sample thickness, and well sample location. A number of sensitivity studies for permeability prediction are performed. Prediction errors from the model are analyzed and a post. processing scheme for error mitigation is investigated. Neural network responses were compared with those using conventional methods for permeability determination. There are some specific advantages of using the developed model. Characterization of prediction space is observed to be better. However, the limitations of the study were also highlighted. A variety of applications of artificial neural networks in reservoir engineering problems are reviewed in this study.
