EFFECT OF SIZE MATERIAL ON JUTE-COTTON UNION FABRIC
(Daffodil International University, 2009-07-01) Azad, Md. Abul Kalam; Jafrin, Shamina
A study was performed on the jute- cotton union fabric to show the effect of sizing on the properties of union fabric. Here, the cotton yarn was used in the warp direction and jute yarn was used in the weft direction. The size material was used only for warp yarn that is for cotton yarn. From the experimental results, it was seen that the strength of the sized union fabric was better than the unsized union fabric although the other properties were similar to each other. Comparing the properties of union fabric with 100% cotton fabric, union fabric (jute-cotton) may be the replacement of 100% same category of cotton fabric.

EFFECT OF STRENGTH ON COTTON AND BLENDED MATTRESS FABRIC PRODUCED BY MECHANICAL PROCESSING SYSTEM
(Daffodil International University, 2011-07-01) Kalam, Md. Abul; Jafrin, Shamina; Haque, Md. Tahzibul
Mattress fabric is one time used fabric. It need not require for washing. In this perspective, a project was taken to replace 100% cotton mattress fabric instead of Jute-Cotton blended mattress fabric. It is seen that Jute: Cotton blended mattress fabric posses similar properties to the 100% cotton mattress fabric. Bursting strength is an important factor for mattress fabric. From the comparison result, it is also seen that the bursting strength of 80:20/Jute: Cotton blended mattress fabric is nearer to the 100% cotton mattress fabric. On the other hand, blended mattress fabric is cheaper than 100% Cotton mattress fabric. Hence, blended mattress fabric may be the replacement of 100% cotton mattress fabric.

EFFECT OF WASHING ON WEIGHT AND STRENGTH OF MECHANICALLY PRODUCED BLENDED AND 100% COTTON CURTAIN
(Daffodil International University, 2010-01-01) Khan, Md. Abdus Salam; Azad, Abul Kalam; Jafrin, Shamina; Haque, Md. Tahzibul
A research had been taken to find out the suitability of blended curtain in respect to the property of 100% similar cotton curtain. Here, two main factors viz. wt. and strength are taken in to account considering the effect of washing on it. From the test results, it is shown that 50:50/ jute: cotton blended curtain is comparable to the 100% cotton curtain of Tk. 90 /meter. Even better than the properties of 100% cotton curtain of Tk. 60/ meter.

PRODUCTION OF JUTE YARNS WITH LOW CONTENT OF UNSAPONIFIABLE MATTERS
    (Daffodil International University, 2010-01-01) Dilruba, F. A; Amin, M. N.; Molla, M. E.; Rahman, S. M. B; Jafrin, Shamina
Castor oil having low content of unsaponifiable matters was chosen for the development of new jute batching emulsion processes. The suitability of the castor oil was also assessed in terms of its favourable colour, odour, specific gravity, acid value, iodine value, saponification value, viscosity, pour points and flash points in comparison to those of conventional JBO. Different recipes for the production of emulsions were standardized in the industrial scale and their suitability were assessed according to their stability, specific gravity, temperature, viscosity and pour points. The recipes were used to spin jute fibre in the jute mill machines. The yarn products were studied to evaluate their work performances based on their physico-chemical properties: moisture regain, t.p.i., W.I., count, strength, tenacity, extension, textile modulus, toughness, QR, oil content and unsaponifiable matters. The yarn products were particularly evaluated in terms of their unsaponifiable matters based on the IJSG criterion. The yarns of processes show quality ratio 93.93 to 104.20 and unsaponifiable matters ranging from 126.05 to 414.92 mg/kg yarn and easily pass the IJSG criterion. The processes therefore appear to be of commercial importance.

ROT-PROOFING OF JUTE FABRICS BY USING COPPER AMMONIUM CARBONATE SOLUTION
(Daffodil International University, 2008-07-01) Jafrin, Shamina; Uddin, Md. Kamal; Dilruba, F. A; Sultana, Dilruba, Nayer; Hossain, H.M. Zakir
Jute hessian fabrics were treated with copper ammonium carbonate solution to increase its longevity. Two types of Hessians (sized and desized) were treated with various concentration of copper ammonium carbonate solution. To assess the effectiveness of copper ammonium carbonate solution as a rot proofing agent the liquor ratio, tensile strength, copper content and longevity of the treated fabrics were determined. The longevity of the treated jute fabrics were tested by exposing them to the environment in contact with wet soil as nursery pots for seedlings. The treated jute nursery pots exhibited a maximum longevity of fourteen months.

USES OF NATURAL FRUIT (DIOSPYROS EMBRYPTERIS PERS) AS A ROT-PROOFING AGENT
(Daffodil International University, 2009-01-01) Jafrin, Shamina; Dilruba, F. A.; Uddin, Md. Kamal; Gomes, Isidore; Islam, Md. Emdadul
Two different types of hessian fabrics (sized and desized) were treated with unripe natural fruit juice ( Botanical Name: Diospyros embrypteris Pers) and copper sulphate solution. The physico-chemical properties of the treated fabrics were determined and made nursery pots for seedling to improve the longevity of rot-proof nursery pot. It was observed that 5% copper sulphate solution treated nursery pots posseses longevity 5.5 months but the extract of natural fruit juice mixed with 5% copper sulphate solution treated sample increases the longevity of nursery pot about eleven months. At the same time 8% copper sulphate solution treated nursery pots longevity more than nine months but natural fruit juice mixed with 8% copper sulphate solution treated nursery pot is required to achieve longevity about fourteen months. Uses of natural fruit gaab have no critical steps to environment, free from health hazard and durable. That’s why it has some potentiality to use for making nursery pots with less chemical materials .
