Item A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY TO ESTIMATE THE PREVALENCE OF DIFFERENT DISEASES DIAGNOSED VIA POST MORTEM IN POULTRY IN NARSINGDI DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH(Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Ctg, 2014-03) Islam, SharifulA cross sectional study was conducted to estimate the prevalences of different bacterial and viral diseases in poultry of Narsingdi district, Bangladesh. Post mortem of a total of 210 dead birds were done for the diagnosis purpose. Different poultry species included into the study was broilers, layers, pegion, duck etc. Among 210 birds, highest 80 birds (38%) were affected with infectious bursal disease (IBD), followed by heat stress 13%, new castle disease (ND) 11%, Coccidiosis 6% and Salmonellosis 6%. IBD in broilers was found significantly associated with the age of the bird and flock size of the farm. Chicks aged between 16-23 days and flock size between 1175-1460 was found to be the most susceptible group having IBD. Diseases found to be highly prevalent in the study area are also economically important and cause significant damage to the farmers. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct effective control measures to reduce the prevalence of these diseases. To design and conduct an effective control measure we need to find out the potential risk factors of the diseases hence need to conduct an extensive study.Item A Study on Distribution System and Equipment of Narayanganj Palli Bidyut Samity-1, 33/11 KV Sub-station(Daffodil International University, 2018-12) Islam, Shariful; Mandal, PulakNarayanganj Palli Bidyut Samity-1 service area consists of Rupgonj (Tarabo Pourshova), Bandar and Sonargaon Thana. The objective of the PBS is to provide electric power and energy to each village positioned within its geographical service area for irrigation pumping, food processing, cottage industries and other small or big industries, commercial centers, health and social services and family homes. This objective is to be accomplished through the Area Coverage Rural Electrification (ACRE) concept by constructing, operating and maintaining lines up to 33 kv, extending lines from existing distribution system. Each potential customer within the PBS service area may become a member of the PBS, the membership being achieved by application and payment of minimal subscription fee. However, with the increasing challenges posed by infectious poultry diseases, the misuse of antimicrobials in commercial farming is becoming a growing concern. With the aim to assess antimicrobial usage (AMU) patterns in chicken farms, a longitudinal study was conducted from December 2022 to July 2023, among 100 commercial poultry farms having at least 500 birds in Mirsharai in Chattogram (Mirsharai and Chandonaish Upazila) and Gazipur districts. Data on AMU were collected using questionnaires, logbooks, and daily phone calls. A total of 34 different antibiotics were used in 674 treatment courses, with amoxicillin (12.2%), doxycycline (8.7%), and florfenicol (9.2%) being most frequently applied. The purpose behind most antibiotics was prevention (59%), followed by treatment (36%) and growth promotion (5%). Antimicrobial use was quantified using weight-based and dose-based indicators: mg/PCU (milligrams per population correction unit), nDDDvet/PCU (number of Defined Daily Doses), and nDCDvet/PCU (number of Defined Course Doses). The overall median AMU was 224.9 mg/PCU, with the highest usage in credit-based broiler farms (330.1 mg/PCU) and the lowest in contract-based farms (114.8 mg/PCU). Similarly, nDDDvet/PCU and nDCDvet/PCU were highest in credit-based broiler farms (13.1 and 3.1, respectively) and lowest in contract-based farms (4.7 and 1.1). The overall AMU in this study (224.9 mg/PCU) was over 5.6 times higher than Bangladesh’s estimated value (40 mg/PCU) and nearly double the global average for food-producing animals (117.5 mg/PCU). The majority of farmers (up to 96.1%) relied on their own experience to decide on AMU, while a smaller proportion received advice from feed/drug dealers (up to 25.7%), government or company veterinarians (22.9%), or fellow farmers. These findings highlight inappropriate AMU practice might lead to AMR, a global threat. Development of Bangladesh-specific DDD/DCD standards, Strict adherence to regulations in antibiotic trade, continuous research for improved stewardship, and targeted awareness programs for farmers and stakeholders are essential components of comprehensive strategies to address indiscriminate antimicrobial usage and combat antimicrobial resistance effectively.Item Automated Risk Prediction by Measuring Pneumothorax Size Using Deep Learning(IEEE, 2020) Islam, Shariful; Rehana, Hasin; Asaduzzaman, Sayed; Hossen, Syed Mobassir; Hossain, Rabby; Bhuiyan, Touhid; Uddin, Muhammad Shahin; Akter, NargisThis research proposed an approach which takes images as a DICOM format from the Kaggle dataset named “SIIM-ACR Pneumothorax Segmentation”. Preprocessed images were fed to popular Unet architecture with se_resnext50_32*4d architecture as backbone of the network, which could detect pneumothorax object on X-ray images as mask for semantic segmentation problem. Then, those mask images were post-processed for reducing noisy objects with a threshold value to identify the mask related to the pneumothorax region. Based on the mask images, percentage of the pneumothorax is calculated using C. Collins methods which also approximately determine the risk level of pneumothorax of a patient.Item Determinants of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Infection among University Students in Central Bangladesh(Scopus, 2021) Islam, Md. Anower; Islam, Shariful; Chowdhruy, ABM Alauddin; Sikder, Tajuddin; Chowdhury, Moniruddin; Reuben, Rine Christopher; Muhammad, FaisalThis study aimed to determine the seroprevalence and determinants of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection among university students in Bangladesh. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 614 students from five universities in central Bangladesh. Data were collected on demographic information, immunization history, medical and blood transfusion history through the face-to-face interview. Blood samples were collected and screened for anti-HBsAg using ELISA, HBsAg Rapid Test-cassette, and immune chromatographic test. The overall seroprevalence of HBV infection was 5.0%, and vaccination coverage was 19.2% among the participants. Students having a history of surgery (OR 11.004, 95% CI 3.211–37.707), blood transfusion (OR 5.651, 95% CI 0.965–33.068), being married (OR 4.776, 95% CI 1.508–15.127), and not being vaccinated (OR 9.825, 95% CI 1.130–85.367) were at higher risk of being infected by HBV. This study showed the endemicity of HBV infection among the Bangladeshi population. Marriage, surgical or blood transfusion history, not being vaccinated were the determinants of HBV infection within the study population. Date fruits are also well known for its high mineral contents and fiber. The present study was taken to develop a novel cake by using paste of date fruits as 20% (sample 1), 30% (sample 2), and 40% (sample 3) along with other ingredients and to specify the quality parameters of the products by proximate analysis. A control sample was also prepared without date fruits. Moisture content of the products were increased as the percentage of the dates increased and were found as 18.25%, 26%, and 27.5% for the samples 1, 2 and 3 respectively. But moisture content was determined as 16% for control sample. Ash content of the samples also showed positive variation with the change of the weight percentage of date fruits in products and the value for sample-1 was 1.7%, sample-2 was 1.6% and sample-3 was 1.9%. Ash content for control sample was found as 1.65%. Protein content of the developed samples were decreased as percentage of date fruits increased and the value for the date incorporated samples was found as 6.56%, 4.3% and 2.18% respectively. Protein content for control sample was determined as 14.21%. Fat contents were also increased as the date fruits percentage increased and it was determined as 3.5%, 4.16%, 5.1% for sample-1,2 and 3 respectively whereas the value for control was found as 3.15%. Sensory analysis was carried out by using nine points hedonic scale in which 9 for like extremely and 1 for dislike extremely in terms of qualities such as color, taste, flavor, texture and overall acceptability with ten assessors. Color and texture were found high scores for control sample whereas other attributes such as taste, flavor and overall acceptability were high in case of enriched samples specially in sample-1.Item Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prognosis of Megaesophagus in Cat: A Case Report(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 2022-11) Islam, SharifulA 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat was brought to the Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center (TTPHRC), Purbachal, Dhaka, with a chief complaint of coughing, anorexia, and vomiting immediately after feeding for the last two weeks. The animal was evaluated through clinical, biochemical, and radiographic examination. A contrast thoracic radiographic examination of the esophagus was performed using barium sulfate suspension during and one month after the initial consultation. The results showed no biochemical abnormalities. A dilatation of the esophagus was revealed and a diagnosis of megaesophagus was made. The cat was managed with antiemetics medication for the first few days and an upright feeding position for 20-30 min every post-meal to avoid an accumulation of food. The response to this management was satisfactory and the clinical signs were fully resolved within a month. In the follow-up examination, there was no evidence of dilatation of the esophagus. AhasanulMulti-Agent Path Finding (MAPF) is a prominent challenge in robotics and artificial intelligence, encompassing the task of finding collision-free paths for multiple agents sharing a common environment. CBS, a fundamental component of this research, plays a pivotal role in resolving conflicts encountered during path planning. There can be conflict between vertices (V) or there can be conflict in edges (E). The more agents there are in the environment, the higher the potential for collisions. With a greater number of agents, the likelihood of agents intersecting paths or occupying the same space at the same time increases. However, CBS typically aims for optimality, which can be computationally expensive and not always practical in real-time scenarios. To enhance the scalability and adaptability of MAPF, this study advocates for sub-optimal path planning, which takes into account agent-specific objectives and constraints. By relaxing the pursuit of optimal solutions, the approach reduces computational complexity and accommodates diverse agent requirements. Sub-optimal paths offer a deal between solution quality and computational effectiveness. Furthermore, the integration of ML models into MAPF augments its capabilities. Machine learning models can capture complex environmental dynamics and agent behaviors, enabling the prediction of future states and proactive path adjustments. This introduces an adaptive element to MAPF, where agents can dynamically adapt their paths based on real-time data and predictions. In conclusion, this research advocates a novel approach to MAPF by combining CBS, sub-optimal path planning tailored to individual agents, and the utilization of machine learning models. However, their practices are often considered inappropriate and unsafe. This study attempted to fill-in this knowledge gap by exploring their perceptions about diagnosis and appropriate treatment, as well as identifying existing barriers to provide appropriate treatment. Methods: This exploratory study was conducted in two peri-urban areas of metropolitan Dhaka. Study participants were selected purposively, and an interview guideline was used to collect in-depth data from thirteen providers. Content analysis was applied through data immersion and themes identification, including coding and sub-coding, as well as data display matrix creation to draw conclusion. Results: The providers relied mainly on the history and presenting symptoms for diagnosis. Information and guidelines provided by the pharmaceutical representatives were important aids in their diagnosis and treatment decision making. Lack of training, diagnostic tools and medicine, along with consumer demands for certain medicine i.e. antibiotics, were cited as barriers to deliver appropriate care. Effective and supportive supervision, training, patient education, and availability of diagnostics and guidelines in Bangla were considered necessary in overcoming these barriers. Conclusion: Informal providers lack the knowledge and skills for delivering appropriate treatment and care. As they provide health services for substantial proportion of the population, it’s crucial that policy makers become cognizant of the fact and take measures to remedy them. Several phenotypic characteristics of ISA brown and Hisex brown were studied. No observable difference was found in plumage color, beak color, shank color, comb color, comb type and egg color between ISA brown and Hisex brown. Significant (P<0.05) difference was found in shank length, egg weight and body weight and in ISA brown it was 3.32 ± 0.01, 59.44 ± 0.47 and 1846.60 ± 11.18 respectively where in case of Hisex brown it was 3.11 ± 0.00, 55.82 ± 0.45 and 1769.10 ± 33.90 respectively. There was no Significant (P>0.05) difference in beak length and age at first lay, it was 2.02 ± 0.01 and 141 ± 0.51 respectively for ISA brown, in other hand for Hisex brown, it was 2.02 ± 0.01 and 141 ± 0.58 respectively. A cross-sectional study on Brucella sero-prevalence was conducted in dairy cattle of Chittagong Metropolitan Area (CMA) of Chittagong, Bangladesh from February to November, 2015, to address the current status of the presence of antibodies in serum (sero-prevalence). A total of 158 serum samples were collected from six randomly selected dairy farms of Chittagong Metropolitan Area. The Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT) and the Competitive ELISA (cELISA) were used for screening and as confirmatory test, respectively. Farm level and animal level demographic data and suspected risk factor data were collected through questionnaire and tested if any of these factors were contributing to the sero-prevalence by univariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis. At individual cow level, a total of 20.25% (n=32, N=158) samples were sero-positive in RBPT and 8.86% (n=14) in cELISA. Farm level prevalence were ranged from 10 to 26.3% and 5 to 20.7% in RBPT and cELISA, respectively. Among the study population, most common reproductive problem was retained placenta (7.59%) and 3.8% cows were suffering from repeat breeding. Final multivariable model revealed that lactating cows (27.54%; OR=2.59; 95% CI: 1.02-6.54; p=0.043) were significantly in high risk of being seropositive to Brucellosis. The risk of Brucella sero-positivity was varied significantly (p<0.05) according to the milk production of the population. The study demonstrates that brucellosis is endemic in the study area. However, there is probable risk of spread of the disease in the unaffected cattle population since there are no precautionary measures taken in the areas that should have been practiced by farmers. As a result, there is a need to boost up public awareness about the zoonosis and, design and implement control measures that will prevent further spread of the disease within and outside the study area.Item Synthesis and Characterization of Lithium-Doped Copper Zinc Tin Sulfide (Czts) Thin Films(AIP Publishing, 2023-12-28) Chand, Md. Since alkali metal doping has shown a performance boost of active layers of solar cells, this work investigates the effects of significant lithium doping on sol-gel-produced CZTS thin films. CZTS- and lithium (Li)-doped CZTS thin films were prepared using the spin coating technique. The variation of structural, morphological, and optical properties of CZTS due to Li-doping has been studied by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and UV-visible spectroscopy techniques. All the synthesized LixCu2-xZnSnS4 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) films showed fine crystallinity with average crystallite sizes of 4.745, 6.013, 6.255, and 6.404 nm, respectively. The average grain size decreases from 0.336 to 0.310 µm via increasing Li concentration. The inclusion of Li increased the bandgap energy ranges from 1.5 to 1.808 eV. The Li0.6Cu1.4ZnSnS4 thin showed the highest absorption coefficient of 3.505 × 104 cm-1 among all the prepared thin films. A high optical conductivity over 1014 s-1 was observed for CZTS, which further increased with an increased Li concentration. The synthesized structures showed enhanced characteristics suitable for solar cell application.
