    3R Economy of a PKL Electrochemical Cell

    The term 3R means Reduction, Recycle and Reuse. It has been taken abandoned portable Zn/Cu-based electrodes for a PKL module which was used 8 years ago. The module was made by a glass plate and had six compartments. The plates from the compartment of this box can be replaced easily, and for this reason, it is called portable electrodes PKL module. The module possessed six chambers and each chamber contained four pairs of Zn and Cu-plates. In each chamber, all the Zn-plates were connected in parallel connection and similarly, all the Cu-plates were also connected in parallel connection. All chambers were connected in series connection. All the Zn-plates were new and all the Cu-plates were 8 years old. The electrolyte (PKL extract) was also 8 years old. The maximum open circuit voltage (Voc) was found to be 5.71 V, and the maximum short circuit current (Isc) was found to be 0.95 A.     A study on pkl electrochemical cell for three different conditions

    It has been conducted this research work to measure the short-circuit current (Isc) and capacity (C = AH) for different conditions of the PKL (Pathor Kuchi Leaf). The copper and zinc plates have been embedded between the two ends of the PKL for three different conditions like fresh leaves, dry leaves and living leaves to make PKL electrochemical cells. The plates were kept tightly binding by plastic clips. A sophisticated multimeter was used to measure the short-circuit current (Isc). The short-circuit current was recorded after 12 h interval. It was seen that the obtained maximum current was 0.7 A for living PKL tree and the minimum current was recorded for dry PKL about 0.10 A for dry PKL. The variation between maximum and minimum short-circuit current difference is for dry PKL is 0.14 A, for fresh PKL is 0.10 A and for living PKL tree is 0.00 A. The maximum capacity was 67.2 AH for living PKL tree and the minimum capacity was 2.16 AH for dry PKL. This type of works has been conducted by us for the first time in Bangladesh. It will help the poor for practical power applications with solar photovoltaic systems. There are some differences from the SPV (Solar Photovoltaic System). The SPV system did not work at night and rainy season. But these PKL power woks equally both day and night time. Furthermore, the PKL power technology is new and innovated technology in Bangladesh whereas the SPV device was innovated by a Russian scientist. For better performance of the PKL electrochemical cell, Some Performance and operation characteristics of the PKL electrochemical cell like input–output curves, efficiency curves, heat rate and incremental curves have been conducted. Finally, the performance of the PKL electrochemical extract cell has been studied by magnetic stirrer with hot plate. It is found that the performance of the PKL cell increases after making oscillation for PKL filtered extract by magnetic stirrer with hot plate.

    A Study on Zn/Cu-Based Pandan Leaf (Pandanus Amaryllifolius) Electrochemical Cell

    At present, there is a dire need of electricity around the world. There are a lot of remote areas where grid electricity is absent. So that some innovations are needed there for electricity production. The nonrenewable energy sources are limited. But we have a plenty of renewable energy sources. Although renewable energy sources are more safer for use in human life and the environmental pollutions. After finishing the renewable energy sources, people can use sun and plants for electricity generation. In our research paper, an idea has been taken for electricity production from pandan leaves because plants and leaves grow everywhere. The current and voltage have been generated from the pandan leaves which have been further used to light the LED lamp. Lighting the LED bulb proved that the idea was successful for electricity generation from pandan leaf. It is not limited to LED bulb; further, this idea will be used for other electric appliances. Pandan leaf (PL) has been used for getting electricity. The scientific name of the pandan leaf is Pandanus amaryllifolius. The pandan leaf extract has been used for electricity production. A comparative study has been done for both with and without secondary salt. CuSO4 has been used as a secondary salt. It has been studied the several parameters like open circuit voltage, load voltage, short circuit current, load current, maximum power, load power, and internal resistance. These parameters have been developed for both with and without secondary salt. It is shown that the performance for with secondary salt is better than the without secondary salt. The internal resistance was less for using the secondary salt. After doing this research work, it can be concluded that result is positive for electricity generation from pandan leaf.

    AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF BACTERIAL CONCRETE

    Concrete is the most used building material composed of cement, sand, stone and aggregate. Tiny micro-crack is the main reason to cause failure in concrete structure. A noble technique has been developed in recent years to remediate these cracks by incorporating special species (bacillus) of bacteria in concrete. These types of bacteria have the capability to secret calcite precipitation and eventually repair the cracks. This paper investigates the performances of bacterial concrete exposed to plain water. Concrete specimens of 100 mm cubical size were cast and cured for 120 days with and without using bacteria. Using spectrophotometer to determine optical density has always been a central technique in micro-biology. Concrete specimens having OD600 0.107, 0.20, 0.637 and 1.221 have been studied in plain water. The specimens were taken out periodically and subjected to compressive & tensile strength tests. From the investigation, it has been revealed that microbial concrete having OD600 0.637 shows better resistance against strength deterioration under all curing conditions and curing ages. Later on the concrete specimens were subjected to Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) tests. This study proposes the UPV and strength relationship curves for different microbial ratios used in concrete. From this test, it has been observed that specimens having OD600 0.637 shows better pulse velocity. The higher pulse velocity can therefore be used to assess the quality and uniformity of the concrete material.

    COMPARATIVE HEALTH HAZARD ANALYSIS OF NON-TOBACCO AND TOBACCO PRODUCER IN MANIKGANJ DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

    Tobacco farming people, especially women and children, suffer from specific kinds of respiratory diseases at the time of curing in direct sunlight or the fired-cured method. Tobacco cultivation is responsible for severe non-communicable diseases among tobacco producers and other people in tobacco-cultivated areas. To estimate the health costs of individuals in tobacco-cultivated areas, a cross-sectional and comparative study was undertaken among tobacco and non-tobacco farmers with family members in Manikganj districts. A total of 120 households were selected through a multi-stage cluster sampling technique, and each household head was interviewed face-to-face using a semi-structured questionnaire to gather information on households, family members, health hazards (categorized as severe, moderate, and mild), and farming. The quantitative data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical approaches. In this study, 120 households consisted of a total of 501 household members. About three-fifth (64.27%) of all household members suffered from tobacco-related sickness. The average treatment costs for non-tobacco and tobacco growers were BDT 5,015 and BDT 9,733.57, respectively. The average number of sick days and lost workdays were 17.74 and 9.82 for non-tobacco growers, compared to 20.17 and 12.29 for tobacco growers. The binary logistic regression results indicate that sicknesses were found to be a higher risk for tobacco growers at the severe level compared to non-tobacco growers. The health risks of tobacco farming, including green tobacco sickness and other issues caused by excessive exposure to pesticides, chemicals, tobacco dust, and long working hours; the severity of these issues increased during cultivation. Moreover, tobacco cultivation carries the risk of disease burden. To achieve a tobacco-free country by 2040, tobacco farmers should cultivate food crops that are profitable and no health hazard of the farmers from a broader perspective instead of cultivating tobacco.

    IMPROVING LIVELIHOOD PATTERN OF HAND WEAVERS PARTICULARL Y WOMEN IN KISHOREGANJ DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

    Bangladesh is a small South Asian country and has the highest population density in the world. It has an agro-based economy, where about half of the total population is female and a majority of them, about 80%, live in rural areas. Most of the rural women have little opportunity to participate in intra-household, socio-economic and political decision-making processes as well as very limited interaction with people outside of the home. The works of women in Bangladesh are mostly confined to the homestead due to cultural, religious and social restrictions. Most of the rural people are poor and family depends on income of male person; but ensuring the income of women is an essential precondition for the elimination of poverty. At present women are involved in some income generating activities, Hand Weaving is one of them, not only women are taking benefit from this new sector but also men are getting more advantages from this. Socio-economic analysis, cost & return was estimated to show their income level as well as livelihood. The main objectives of the study are to improve livelihood of rural people, to analyze the proportion of income from various sources, to compare the income of weaver between present and past and to identify the determinants of income of weaver at household level through Multiple Classification Analysis (MCA).
