Item A miniaturized interdigital hairpin microstrip bandpass filter design(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Islam, Nafiul; Islam, Istiaque; Haque, Md. MerazulModern communication technology is advancing every day. It is becoming more efficient and miniaturized. The efficiency of the communication technology depends upon the performance of the filter used in the system. That’s why extensive research is going on to improve the filter performance as well as to reduce its size. In this thesis we have proposed a four-pole elliptic function band-pass filter designed using compact miniaturized microstrip interdigital hairpin resonator. Miniaturization hairpin resonator is realized by using an interdigital structure having parallel coupled lines. Many works are going on in the field of filter designing. The most recent works has been studied in this thesis to obtain the most suitable design for specific application. We have used the full-wave simulator IE3D to design the interdigital hairpin resonator. We choose RO4003C substrate for our design as it has many advantages in high frequency applications. Finally a filter with chip area of 28.2 * 20.2 mm2 and center frequency at 2.4GHz with a 3db bandwidth of 220 MHz has been proposed. Its upper cutoff and lower cutoff frequencies are respectively 2.53 GHz and 2.31 GHz.Item Automatic Lesion Segmentation of Breast Ultrasound Image: An approach towards full automation(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2014-11-15) Mukaddim, Rashid-Al-; Islam, Nafiul; Zaman, Fahim AhmedBreast cancer is the most common cause of death among patients. One of the main reasons is that the lesion is not identified in proper time to seek medical facility. The situation in Bangladesh is alarming as there is a huge female population in the rural areas who don’t have proper medical access to detect the early stage of breast cancer. We have tried our utmost to contribute to the development of a Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system that will detect the tumorous lesion in the BUS (breast ultrasound) image automatically. The algorithm will be able to come up with a Region of Interest (ROI) which eliminates human intervention in this phase. ROI generation phase consists of Horizontal cut based on entropy information and calculation of directional gradient from automatically generated seed point. Finally, we segmented our ROI image by adopting two approaches; one using watershed segmentation technique and other using entropy filtering. The thesis concludes with the comparison among the two segmentation methods.Item Sustainable procurement for Carbon-neutral construction(BRAC University, 2025-10-25) Islam, Nafiul; Chowdhury, Hasan MaksudThis study explores the integration of sustainable procurement practices within the construction sector of Bangladesh, using National Development Engineers Ltd. (NDE) as a case study. The research aims to assess how sustainability-driven procurement policies can contribute to achieving carbon-neutral construction by embedding environmental, social, and economic considerations across all purchasing and supply chain processes. Adopting a mixed-method approach, the study combines quantitative survey data from 25 respondents across NDE’s Procurement, Finance, Quality, and Project departments with qualitative interviews of key managerial personnel. Statistical analyses, including regression and correlation tests, were applied to examine relationships between sustainable procurement adoption, supplier engagement, cost performance, and emission reduction. The results demonstrate a strong positive relationship between sustainability practices and Scope-3 emission reduction, with supplier engagement significantly enhancing compliance with ISO and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) standards. The findings also reveal that sustainability integration does not increase overall procurement costs, highlighting its long-term economic viability. The study concludes that NDE’s structured procurement governance—anchored in ISO 20400 and PAS 2080 frameworks—effectively links traceability, digital documentation, and supplier development to environmental outcomes. It recommends expanding digital traceability systems, enhancing supplier training, and institutionalizing carbon accounting in procurement to accelerate progress toward carbon-neutral construction. This research contributes practical insights to the growing field of sustainable procurement and provides a replicable framework for other construction firms in Bangladesh and beyond.
