A Study on Knowledge and Awareness about Hepatitis B among the School and College going students of Dhaka City

Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is a major global health problem. It can cause chronic infection and puts people at high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer. In Bangladesh Hepatitis B is one of the biggest threat due to lack of knowledge and awareness about it. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge and awareness about Hepatitis B among the school and college going students in Bangladesh. A total of 203 subjects aged between 13 to 19 years’ age, who were students of different schools and colleges participated in the study representing the adolescent of the nation. They responded to a structured questionnaire where all the respondents have heard about Hepatitis B. According to 51.23% of the respondents, Hepatitis B can be transmitted through blood transfusion. About 41.87% informed that Hepatitis B can be transmitted by breast feeding. Majority of them have little knowledge or misconception about the mode of transmission like eating and drinking from same plates or glasses of patient (21.67%) and kissing or talking (19.70%). From this study we found 72.90% respondents thought that proper knowledge and education is the most effective way to control and prevent Hepatitis B. About 59.11% respondents thought another most effect way to prevent Hepatitis B is blood test before marriage. From this study we found that 67% students would behave positively to the Hepatitis B patient if he/she will be one the student or teacher of their educational institute. Another 66.50% respondents said they will continue their relationship with Hepatitis B infected person. Since this study was conducted in only 9 schools and colleges in the Dhaka city, that cannot reflect the overall view of the whole country, further research work should be carried out with more number of schools and colleges across the country. It is also important to increase the level of knowledge and awareness about Hepatitis B; so that misconceptions don’t arise among the school and college going students.
Disaster Related Tweets Analysis with Machine Learning Approaches

It's no secret that the microblogging service Twitter (X) has quickly risen to prominence as one of the most reliable places to get the latest updates on breaking events. Tweets, Twitter's information streams, are sent out voluntarily by registered users and can reach even non-registered users, often before more conventional sources of mass news. In this research, we use machine learning to create models that can find helpful tweets on disasters automatically. Social media users provide massive amounts of data during natural catastrophe situations, some of which are useful for relief operations and emergency management. In this work, we analyze the material shared on social media during two hurricanes and one earthquake. This research has shown a machine-learning approach to categorizing tweets in relation to disasters and labeling Twitter data. This study has applied five machine learning algorithms to predict disaster and nondisaster tweets. In our model and among these five machine learning algorithms three perform similarly, but Logistic Regression has achieved the best 80.5% model accuracy among all other algorithms.
Flipped Classroom Pedagogy in Higher Education in EFL Contexts

The primary aim of this article is to examine the existing findings of flipped classroom (FC) pedagogy in higher education institutions (HEIs) for teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) context. Relevant studies have been scrutinised based on keywords, such as higher education, online learning, blended or hybrid teaching, flipped classrooms, and English language instruction in EFL environment. A total of 54 out of the selected 162 articles were analysed using the critical review process as the research methodology, and data were analysed using the content analysis tech- nique. The findings revealed that flipped classroom (FC) had been applied in different parts of the world over many years. But, most of the studies are in science and engineering. Flipped classroom (FC) in the English as foreign language context has remained untapped. Most of the studies con- clude that flipped classroom (FC) has more benefits compared to its drawbacks. This review makes several recommendations for further study.
UAE university students’ experiences of virtual classroom learning during Covid 19

Virtual Classroom (VC) learning approaches have recently drawn considerable attention because they have the potential to encourage student engagement to ensure active and collaborative learning. Although research on online learning has gained visibility in recent times, VC learning has not received notable attention, especially in Gulf countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The study examines students’ perception and experience of VC in a university in UAE during the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of its necessity and helpfulness. This research also examines the situational pressure of VC and aims to explain the reasons for its desirability and inevitability. As a current learning space beyond the conventional face-to-face classroom learning, VC learning is available in various forms and quality depending on creating opportunities for the learners’ participation. However, there are issues with VC practice too. Our analysis of survey data (N = 334) leads to portraying autonomous learning freedom in different learning environments in VC. We argue that students may resort to VC not because of its proven effectiveness but because of the necessity to continue addressing their learning needs. This study contributes to the general understanding of the online and traditional in-person classroom learning and virtual learning resources in the teaching of English as a globally desired language.
