Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Multinomial Naive Bayes (MNB), Decision Tree (DT), XGBoost, and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) are the six classifiers used in the study. The dataset was collected from diverse sources including novels, books, blogs, articles, social media platforms, newspapers, websites and some of them self-made. The data underwent preprocessing steps such as cleaning, normalization, and feature extraction using TfidfVectorizer. Among the other algorithms, SVM achieved the highest accuracy at 97.17%. Classifier performance was assessed with metrics such as F1-score, recall, accuracy, and precision. To evaluate performance, ROC curves, and confusion matrices were also examined. The study underlines the necessity for focused approaches and draws attention to the significant gaps in the field of natural language processing (NLP) regarding tense classification studies. By leveraging machine learning, this research aims to enhance the accuracy and contextual appropriateness of tense classification, thereby improving cross-cultural communication and understanding in machine translation systems. This research contributes to NLP by offering a robust approach to tense classification and demonstrates the potential of SVM in achieving high accuracy for this task. Future work will focus on addressing limitations such as short training data, overfitting and tense conversion.Item Assessment of Radionuclides From Coal-Fired Brick Kilns on the Outskirts of Dhaka City and the Consequent Hazards on Human Health and the Environment(Elsevier, 2023-05-05) Siraz, M.M. Shafiqul; Yeasmin, S.In a first-of-its-kind study, terrestrial radionuclide concentrations were measured in 35 topsoil samples from the outskirts of Dhaka using HPGe gamma-ray spectrometry to assess the radiological consequences of such a vast number of brick kilns on the plant workers, general as well as dwelling environment. The range of activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K is found at 19 ± 3.04 to 38 ± 4.94, 39 ± 5.85 to 57 ± 7.41, and (430 ± 51.60 to 570 ± 68.40) Bq/kg, respectively. 232Th and 40K concentrations were higher than the global averages. Bottom ash deposition in lowlands, fly ash buildup in soils, and the fallout of micro-particles are all probable causes of the elevated radioactivity levels. 137Cs was found in the sample, which indicates the migration of 137Cs from nuclear accidents or nuclear fallout, or the contamination of feed coal. Although the effective dose received by the general public was below the recommended dose limit but, most estimates of hazard parameters surpass their respective population weighted global averages, indicating that brick kiln workers and nearby residents are not safe due to prolonged exposures to terrestrial radiation. In addition, the soil around sampling sites is found to be unsuitable for agricultural purposes.Item Biology and Stock Assessment of the Threatened Fish Puntius Ticto (Hamilton, 1822) (Cyprinidae) in the Gorai River, Southwestern Bangladesh(University of Rajshahi, 2016) Islam, Md. Shafiqul; Jasmine, SalehaThe present study describes the fisheries biology including length-weight relationships (LWRs), condition factor (Fultonʹs, KF), pre-predator status (based on relative weight, WR), reproductive biology (size at first sexual maturity, spawning season and fecundity), growth parameters (asymptotic length, growth co-efficient, age at zero length) and stock status (fishing mortality, natural mortality, total mortality, exploitation rate) of the threatened fish Puntius ticto (Hamilton, 1822) from the Gorai River, southwestern Bangladesh. A sum of 1200 individuals of P. ticto was sampled during July 2010 to June 2011 using cast net, square lift net and conical trap. Here, the total length (TL) was ranged from 2.77-7.48 cm for male and 2.66-8.00 cm for female. The body weight (BW) ranged from 0.42-6.6 g for male and 0.23-8.94 for female P. ticto. The b values of LWRs ranged from 2.63 to 3.62 for males and 3.04 to 3.76 for females and the overall b values of LWRs indicated negative allometric growth (< 3.00) in both males and females. The KF was higher in January for both genders suggesting that the fish was in good condition in that month. Also, the WR was higher in the month of December-March for male and January-March for female populations of P. ticto indicating that, in these months the predator was in lower and prey was in higher amount. Also, the mean WR was significantly different from 100 for both sexes suggesting the habitat was not in balance condition with lower prey-higher predator. On the basis of gonadosomatic index (GSI) the first sexual maturity was 4.2 cm in TL for male and 4.7 cm in TL for female P. ticto. The higher GSI were found during the month of April-September, which indicates the spawning season of P. ticto in the Gorai River and peak values of GSI were found in the month of June-July, which point out peak spawning season. Also, when temperature increases above 30o C and rainfall starts, then the P. ticto began to spawn. There is a significant correlation between temperature, rainfall and the spawning season. During the study, lowest fecundity was 2021 and highest fecundity was 8623 with mean value of 4600±2037. The length-frequency distribution indicated that male P. ticto were first recruited in the month of September and female P. ticto were first recruited in the month of August. Estimated growth equations showed TL∞ in male is 10.26 cm, and in female is 10.55 cm but female grew faster than male. The growth co-efficient was 1.16 year-1 for male and 1.30 year-1 for female. Also, age at to be calculated as 0.006 for males and 0.007 for females. The growth performance index for males and females P. ticto was 1.80 and 2.16, respectively and longevity was 2.6 year for males and 2.30 year for females. The calculated natural mortality was 1.66 year-1 for males and 2.74 year-1 for females; and fishing mortality was recorded as 2.01 year-1 and 4.40 year-1 for males and females respectively. In addition, the total mortality was 2.67 and 7.14 year-1 for male and female populations of P. ticto. From the estimates fishing and total mortalities, the exploitation rate was calculated as 0.58 or 58% for male and 0.62 or % for female. ShafiqulIn the past few years, growing interest has been paid to the wide band gap materials such as GaN because of its low thermal generation rate and high breakdown field for its potential use in high power, high temperature and microwave frequency applications. The use of GaN based devices for efficient, linear high power RF amplifiers has already been grown for military applications. GaN Metal Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MESFETs) have received much attention as its structure is simpler to analyze than that of High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs) and its epi-layers and the physical effects are easier to realize and interpret. Flourishing interest in exploiting the properties and performance of GaN based devices requires the development of simple physics-based analytical models to simplify the device parameter acquisition and to be able to use it for computer-aided design of GaN integrated circuits (ICs). Few analytical models on GaN MESFETs are reported, though significant experimental work is available. Therefore more analytical models should be developed to understand the device operation accurately. In this thesis, analytical one- and two-dimensional channel potential models are developed for long-channel GaN MESFETs based on the solution of Poisson’s equation. The developed analytical channel potential model can be used for short-channel MESFETs with some modifications and assumptions. Analytical models for I-V and C-V characteristics of GaN MESFET are also presented considering the effect of parasitic resistances and gate length modulation. The models evaluate the transconductance and optimum noise figure. The models developed in this thesis will be very helpful to understand the device behaviour in nanometer regime for future applications.Item Constriction of multivariate binomial choice model(© University of Dhaka, 2025-03-20) Islam, Md. Shafiqul; Khosru, Dr. Quazi Deen MohdIn recent years, Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) have gained broad interest as the channel materials of Field Effect Transistors (FETs) after the development of fabrication and growth of two dimensional (2D) materials. Suitable bandgap, dangling bond free interfaces and atomic scale thickness make TMD materials, like Molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) and Tungsten diselenide (WSe2), attractive for switching and logic devices. A robust simulator with quantum mechanical effects of 2D FETs will be a promising addition to the existing literature and will pave the way to explore the sub-10nm technology in near future. In this thesis work a computationally efficient simulator considering the quantum mechanical effects of TMD FETs has been developed by using only MATLAB. Schrödinger-Poisson equations are solved self-consistently using material parameters extracted from literature.The numerical simulator has been used to study the transport performance of a monolayer WSe2 FET structure with 20 nm of channel length. The performance analysis revealed excellent on and off state performances of the device with an impressive ON/OFF current ratioof ~〖10〗^6, on current of 547 μA/μm, and sub-threshold swing of 85.27mV/dec.To show the compatibility with circuit level simulation performance, analysis of monolayer MoS2 channel TMD FETs has also been presented. To develop this android application we used Android Studio, which helps us to build this application faster. We also used for better GUI design and make this application user friendly. After implementation of all functions, the system is tested in different stages and it works successfully as a prototype.Item Hygiene Practice, Microbial Diversity and Detection of Pathogenic Bacteria in some Ready-To-Eat Foods of Rajshahi Metropolis(University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, 2019) Debnath, Kanta; Begum, Most. Ferdousi; Islam, Md. ShafiqulRTE food has become an important public health issue and a great concern to everybody. This is due to widespread food borne diseases, due to the mushrooming of wayside food vendors who lack an adequate understanding of the basic food safety issues. In the present study different restaurants and street food vans of six hot spots of Rajshahi Metropolis were surveyed during March, 2015 to February, 2016. The survey was mainly conducted to ascertain the socioeconomic condition, hygiene and sanitation practice of food seller to reduce the contamination rate and to p1otect public health. From the survey result it was observed that all RTE food vendors of Rajshahi Metropolis were male with the age range as below 25-50 years, illiterate to under H.S.C pass and have 5-20 years of experience in this profession. The majority of restaurants vendors earned 26000 to 30000 taka monthly. The most of the restaurant vendors had no knowledge about food hygiene and very much irregular for cleaning of sale surfaces (23.07%). Hand washing before and after serving was practiced by 23.07% vendors, 30.77 % used aprons and none of vendors covered hair with caps or used gloves while serving food. They used detergent for cleaning of utensils. None of the vendors have any training about food safety and not aware of food safety law. On the other hand, in case of street food vendors, it was observed that majority (100%) of street vendors were male. Most of the vendors (60%) were 36-45 years old and 64% were passed JSC and only 8% street vendors were illiterate. The majority (52%) of street vendors earned 11000 to 15000 taka monthly and majority (80%) had no knowledge about food hygiene. Nazim; Adnan, Md.; Islam, Mohammad Nazmul; Sayeed, Mohammed Aktar; Emran, Talha Bin; Gandara, Jesus Simal; Ester Pagano 5; Rafandfaele Capasso 6Lepidagathis hyalina Nees is used locally in Ayurvedic medicine to treat coughs and cardiovascular diseases. This study explored its pharmacological potential through in vivo and in vitro approaches for the metabolites extracted (methanolic) from the stems of L. hyalina. A qualitative phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of numerous secondary metabolites. The methanol extract of L. hyalina stems (MELHS) showed a strong antioxidative activity in the 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and reducing power assays, and in the quantitative (phenolic and flavonoid) assay. Clot lysis and brine shrimp lethality bioassays were applied to investigate the thrombolytic and cytotoxic activities, respectively. MELHS exhibited an expressive percentage of clot lysis (33.98%) with a moderately toxic (115.11 g/mL) effect. The in vivo anxiolytic activity was studied by an elevated plus maze test, whereas the antidepressant activity was examined by a tail suspension test and forced swimming test. During the anxiolytic evaluation, MELHS exhibited a significant dosedependent reduction of anxiety, in which the 400 mg/kg dose of the extract showed 78.77 4.42% time spent in the open arm in the elevated plus maze test. In addition, MELHS demonstrated dosedependent and significant activities in the tail suspension test and forced swimming test, whereas the 400 mg/kg dose of the extract showed 87.67 6.40% and 83.33 6.39% inhibition of immobile time, respectively. Therefore, the current study suggests that L. hyalina could be a potential source of anti-oxidative, cytotoxic, thrombolytic, anxiolytic, and antidepressant agents. Further study is needed to determine the mechanism behind the bioactivities.Item Molecular Investigation of Cryptosporidium Spp. in Stray and Pet dog at Chittagong Metropolitan Area(A thesis submitted in the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science (MS) in Pathology Department of Pathology and Parasitology Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chittagong-4225, Bangladesh, 2014-06) Islam, Md. ShafiqulCryptosporidium is a zoonotic pathogen composed of genetically distinct but morphologically identical genotypes. Recent molecular study indicates that dogs may transmit the cattle genotype, which is known to be pathogenic to humans. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the present condition of Cryptosporidium infection in stray and pet dogs at Chittagong metropolitan area in Bangladesh. One hundred and thirty (130) non diarrheic fecal samples obtained from 98 stray dogs and 32 pet dogs were investigated during the period from January 2014 to May 2014. Initial identification of Cryptosporidium spp. was carried out on stool samples by Ziehl-Neelsen (Z-N) acid fast staining method where Cryptosporidium oocysts were revealed as pink to bright red spherical or slightly ovoid bodies. DNA was extracted from Z-N positive fecal samples and Cryptosporidium spp. were confirmed by amplifying 18srRNA gene. The prevalence was determined to be 8.46% in Z-N techniques and 3.85% by nested PCR amplification of 18srRNA gene. Five fecal samples were found positive in PCR where one sample was found positive from pet dog. Four sets of specific oligonucleotide primers were used in this study that amplified products of predicted sizes for each gene in PCR assays [581, 550, 800, 448 bp for 18srRNA(nested), COWP, Gp60(nested) and HSP70 gene respectively] with the use of 1% agarose gel electrophoresis for PCR amplified products. C. parvum was found to be present in one isolates from stray dog which showed successful amplification of a specific DNA fragment at 550 bp with C. parvum outer wall protein (COWP) gene amplicon which may contain cattle genotype of zoonotic significance but it’s unclear up to further sequence study. There was no significant (p>0.05) difference in the prevalence between male and female stray and pet dogs. There was significant (p<0.05) prevalence in young in compared to adult stray dogs. Results indicate that PCR-based diagnostic methods are useful tool for the accurate diagnosis of Cryptosporidium infection in dogs. Significant raise (p<0.05) in lymphocytic and monocyte counts was found in Cryptosporidium infected dogs. This is the first investigation on the presence of C. parvum among stray dogs in Bangladesh based on COWP gene amplification and it has pointed to existence of a genotype that may play an important role as a source of human and farm animal cryptosporidiosis, although gene sequence of the positive isolates is needed for clear identity of the genotypes. The results of this research give an idea that stray dogs may act as reservoirs for zoonotic intestinal protozoan parasites and should be considered important to public health. So that, it is imperative for human to avoid fecal contamination in streets, public gardens and parks. Also stray dog population should be controlled by euthanasia or by performing neutering of male stray dog, specially in urban areas.Item Novel approaches to low leakage and area efficient VLSI Design(BRAC University, 2011-08) Izma, Tajrian; Barua, Parag; Rahman, Md. The combination of higher clock speeds, greater functional integration, and smaller process geometries has contributed to significant growth in power density. Scaling improves transistor density and functionality on a chip. Scaling helps to increase speed and frequency of operation and hence higher performance. As voltages scale downward with the geometries threshold voltages must also decrease to gain the performance advantages of the new technology but leakage current increases exponentially. Thinner gate oxides have led to an increase in gate leakage current. Today leakage power has become an increasingly important issue in processor hardware and software design. With the main component of leakage, the sub-threshold current, exponentially increasing with decreasing device dimensions, leakage commands an ever increasing share in the processor power consumption. In 65 nm and below technologies, leakage accounts for 30-40% of processor power. According to the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS) [1], leakage power dissipation may eventually dominate total power consumption as technology feature sizes shrink. Shafiqul; Kabir, Kazi ImtiazThis study presents a comprehensive assessment of radiological dose consequences from potential severe accident scenarios at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), focusing on health impacts from radioactive releases. Utilizing HotSpot 3.1.2 and ORIGEN 2.2, the research estimates Total Effective Dose Equivalent (TEDE) and Committed Effective Dose Equivalent (CEDE) to critical organs, including the thyroid, skin, lungs, surface bone, red marrow, and liver, under seasonal meteorological conditions. The thyroid, due to its high affinity for radioactive iodine (particularly 131I), showed maximum CEDE values of 8.0 × 105 Sv and 4.4 × 105 Sv during the autumn and rainy seasons, respectively, at 30 meters from the source. These values, along with other organ doses, exceeded public and occupational dose limits up to 15 km in the rainy season and 30 km in the autumn season, primarily influenced by wind speed and precipitation. The study underscores the need for emergency protective measures such as sheltering, evacuation, and the administration of potassium iodide (KI), especially for populations within high-risk zones. It further recommends the integration of dose modeling findings into the National Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (NNREPRP) to enhance response strategies and protect public health in the event of nuclear accidents.Item Real time classroom attendance management system(BRAC University, 4/18/2017) Islam, Md. Classroom attendance management system is one of the applications. Traditional attendance system: roll calling, card punching, paper-based attendance are manual process. It takes a lot of time. To remove hectic of traditional process Real time attendance management system is a better solution. Without physical interaction of human being it gives the attendance of present student in the class. Using Kinect camera we took the video input of the classroom. Detection of human face from the video stream is done by Viola- Jones algorithm. For recognition purpose we tested Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF), Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), Linear Binary Pattern (LBP) feature extraction algorithm and do some comparison between those algorithm for our created dataset. In order to normalization we used Kernel Based Filtering method. In our work, when a face of a student matches with the face of dataset it marked the student as present.Item Role of maintenance management of rolling stock in Bangladesh Railway : a study to assess effectiveness and efficiency(BRAC University, 2015-02) Islam, Md. ShafiqulThere is no denying to the fact that the safety and reliability of railway transportation system largely depends on efficient maintenance of rolling stock or whatsoever. Such goal needs a scientific and efficient maintenance management. Bangladesh Railway owns a big fleet of rolling stock, sophisticated and conventional and a vast organization is at work round the clock to look after them for optimum utility and efficient service for its users, for this reason proper maintenance is necessary. The main objective of this study is to identify the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance management of rolling stock and its impact on railway operation. The investigation particularly included determining the existing performance of maintenance and productivity of the management which is related to the rolling stock maintenance and also the scope of maintenance management enrichment. Mainly Data was collected from secondary sources from various monthly reports prepared by mechanical and stores department, statistical Information Book 2013 of Bangladesh Railway etc. Text books, Reference books, published journals, articles, Carriage & Wagon manual, loco shed manual, Workshop manual are studied. Primary data are collected by interviewing employees, shop and depot in-charges, from the seniors, retired and knowledgeable persons and railway officials who are conversant with the maintenance management of rolling stock Bangladesh Railway. Some primary data collected through observation and from secondary maintenance management for assessing efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance management. BR is a state owned service provider. It provides safe, comfortable and economic transport services to the passengers and thus government is paying Public Service Obligatory (PSO) grant. The losses and declining operational performance is closely related with efficient and effective maintenance management of rolling stock. It is true that the practice of maintenance management in BR is so far from the modern concept of management. The author has tried to assess efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance management and to identify the constraints, weakness, and finally concluding with some VI recommendations coping up those issues with modern and current practices in maintenance management system. The area of the study covered the effectiveness and efficiency of maintenance management of rolling stock of different workshop and sheds (Pahartali, Chittagong, Dhaka, Parbatipur, Dinajpur, Saidpur) of Bangladesh Railway, which was based on primary and secondary data. After examining and assessing, it was found that existing maintenance management of rolling stock in BR is inefficient and ineffective and the subsequent impact is resulting in a decrease in the earning of BR annually. For a state owned Enterprise, the poor maintenance management can be attributed to the following causes. These are (i) Traditional maintenance system and averaged, under capacity facilities of maintenance, (ii) Inefficient and traditional HRM practice, (iii) Insufficient budget allotment, (iv) Inefficient and ineffective safety management, (v) Want of practice of modern maintenance management. For improvement of these situations, some specific recommendations have been drawn. These are (i) BR should clearly define its vision, objectives and policies and to follow modern concepts, policies & practice of maintenance management, inventory and purchasing management., (ii) BR should reorganize its manpower management with modern concept of HRM, (iii) BR should invest adequate fund for re-engineering its workshops, depots and loco sheds with modern equipment and facilities, (iv) Adequate budget should be allocated for material purchase, (v) BR should adopt the modern concept, tools and technologies in case of all related management including maintenance management.Item Security in Cloud Computing(Daffodil International University, 2018-12-12) Islam, Md. Cloud system is an emerging technology in which security is the most challenging issue. Due to data security issue with cloud computing many business organization have fear in storing their data in Cloud. So the most challenging task of the business organization is to provide high security for their data since the data are sensible related to their business. This paper tries to summarize general characteristics and trusted security of cloud computing which will help the development and adoption of this rapidly evolving technology. This paper explores some of the basics and privacy issues of cloud computing. We demonstrate a new type of attack that is called “Man in the Cloud” (MITC) Attack. To ensure the security of data, In this paper we proposed a method of providing security that can be prevent “Man in the Cloud ”(MITC) Attack. In this paper we use RSA encryption and decryption algorithm plus auto generated random code verification system to provide two steps security in file synchronization in cloud computing or mobile cloud computing (MCC).
