Item A Briefly Concept on the Features of Switchgears, PFI and Transformer(Daffodil International University, 2019-08) Islam, Md. Rafiqul; Rana, Md. Masud; Islam, Md. MobinulThe internship program is very helpful to bridge the gap between the theoretical knowledge and real life experience as part of Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronics Engineering program. Their internship report has been designed to have a practical experience through the theoretical understanding. Classroom discussion alone cannot make a student perfect in handling the real engineering situation; therefor it is an opportunity for the students to know about the real life situation through their program. The report is broadly categorized in six different parts. At first time is introduction, objectives of the study, scope of the report, methodology of the study, and limitation. Part two describes the overview of Tokai Power Product Ltd (TPPL), major works involved, territory, supply chain, mission, vision and strategy, operation, departments of Tokai Power Product Ltd, some of power manufacturing company in Bangladesh. Part three focuses on Literature Review. Part four focuses on transformer manufacturing. Part five focuses on switchgear. It includes circuit breaker, isolator and switch, importance of power factor, transformer fault and protection. Part six narrates a concluding summery, future work and references. In their internship report, transformer manufacturing process of Tokai Power Product Ltd (TPPL) as well as switchgear & protective devices were studied. I learn here how Can transformer work? RafiqulInfant and under-five mortality are the sensitive indices of development and often reflect a country's quality of life. But there is little understanding of whether Bangladesh will be capable of achieving all of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) especially the MDG 4 relating to infant (0-11 months) and under-five (0-59 months) mortality. In this view, an attempt has been made to estimate childhood mortality and to identify the covariates of infant and under-five mortality measuring the contribution of each of the covariates to overall variation, with a view to reducing infant and under-five morbidity and mortality in Bangladesh so that the country may be able to reach the MDG 4 target by the year 2015. For this, data are taken from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS), 2004, for the ten-year period preceding the survey (with a total sample size 7427, of whom 5004 from rural and 2423 from urban areas), having an eligible woman (ever-married and aged 10-49) with at least one or more child(ren) and the study is executed separately for the overall country level, rural level and urban level of Bangladesh. For analyzing the data, indirect techniques (Brass, Sullivan and Trussell methods), abridged life table technique and well-known statistical tools such as Pearson chi-square (X2 ) test, logistic regression model and discriminant analysis have been performed. From the results, it is revealed that the probabilities of dying (nqx) calculated, using Brass, Sullivan and Trussell methods are increasing with the increase of age of mothers. Again in case of data classified by duration of marriage of mothers, it is observed that the nqx is increasing with the increase of marital duration. But for the urban male, these probabilities are decreasing from the marital duration of 0-4 years to 10-14 years and then again increasing up to the last marital duration group. The results of z2 test indicate that among all the selected variables e.g. mothers' education, age of mother at birth, is child twin?, toilet facility, T.T. injections, breastfeeding, antenatal visits, after birth checked health, parity and preceding birth interval are statistically and significantly associated with the infant and under-five mortality. The results of logistic regression analysis using these ten significant variables (the two variables such as child's sex and sources of drinking water are excluded because of their insignificant association showed through x2 test) revealed that is child twin?, breastfeeding, antenatal visits and after birth-checked health have highly significant (pItem Ahkam Al-Qira'at As-Sab 'Fi Al-Furu(©University of Dhaka, 2023-07-06) Islam, Md. Nazrul IslamFemale smugglers in Hilli port of Bangladesh are more vulnerable of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS because of their high mobility. Therefore, the assessment of vulnerability to HIV infection among female smugglers has long been an interesting topic to population and health researchers in Bangladesh. This study is an effort to assess the determinants of knowledge and awareness about HIV/AIDS, HIV/AIDS contamination risks, sexually abused through smuggling, perpetrators of sexually abused and perpetrators of drug affection among female smugglers based on the data of 300 female smugglers in Hilli port, Bangladesh collected by purposive sampling technique, which are the key elements of the assessment of vulnerability to HIV infection. To carry out the objectives, univariate, bivariate and multivariate techniques like descriptive statistics, chi-square test, binary logistic regression analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis have been employed in accordance with their importance. In this study, it is observed that most of the female smugglers are belonged to <30 years of ages (82%) in which a remarkable numbers (22.3%) are teenagers, i.e., 10-20 years aged. The majorities have primary (30%) and under secondary (31.7%) level of education. Similar pattern of parent’s educational qualification has been observed where mother’s education has downgraded relative to father’s education in every level of education. Again, the majorities (63%) have earned 500-1000 Tk per month and all of female smugglers have improved their living conditions through this profession. Poverty (95%), pressure of family (56.3%) and absence of husband (38%) have been found as main cause of involvement in this profession. However, only 50% have details knowledge, 51.3% have knowledge about the way to protect from HIV/AIDS and 45% have awareness about HIV/AIDS. Although 70% female smugglers know that condom can protect this epidemic but only 30% use condom at the time of sex. The majorities (69.3%) think that they have the risks of HIV/AIDS contamination because 74% have been sexually abused by male colleagues (53.5%), Indian track drivers (30.9%), BSF (13.4%) and BGB (2.3%) through this profession, in which 55% exercise unsafe sex. Furthermore, most of the female smugglers (92.3%) have been influenced to take drug by male colleagues (39.7%), Indian track drivers (45.5%), BSF (11.2%) and BGB (3.6%) through the profession of smuggling. However, it has been identified that educated respondents, those have awareness by person, doctor and NGO workers, those have knowledge about the bad impact of HIV/AIDS from media, those are participated in HIV/AIDS seminar and in religious seminar are more likely to have knowledge about HIV/AIDS as compared with their counterparts respectively; and respondents who are belonged to >20 years of age group, those have awareness by person, doctor and NGO workers and who have any understanding with HIV affected persons are more likely to have awareness about HIV/AIDS as against their counterparts respectively. Again, there have been found the statistical significant association of HIV/AIDS contamination risks with knowledge about the way to protect from HIV/AIDS, exercise unsafe sex, participation on HIV/AIDS seminar, sexually abused passing through smuggling, using condom in sexual relation and influence to taking drugs in this profession respectively. In addition, respondents who exercise unsafe sex, those are sexually abused and influenced to take drugs passing through smuggling have found to be having more risks of HIV/AIDS contamination as against their counterparts respectively. In this study, smuggler’s age, father’s education, marital status, reasons of coming to smuggling, monthly income through smuggling and unsafe sex have statistical significant association; and smuggler’s age, reasons of coming to this profession, monthly income through smuggling, unsafe sex and drug affecting have statistical significant effect on sexually abused through smuggling respectively. It is also mentionable that female smugglers are more vulnerable of sexually abused after 25 years of their ages and poverty is one of the main reasons to coming this profession which is also significant reason of sexually abused. Nevertheless, the chance of sexually abused has been decreased with increasing the monthly income through smuggling. It has been determined through multinomial logistic regression analysis that father’s education, marital status, unsafe sex and types of drug affecting have significant effect on Indian track driver; and respondent’s educational status, marital status, reasons of coming to smuggling and monthly income through smuggling have significant effect on BSF/BGB by whom female smugglers are sexually abused. It is clear that the vulnerability of sexually abused by BSF/BGB decreases with increasing the smuggler’s educational level and monthly income through this profession; and unmarried female smugglers and those have the habit of unsafe sex and injection or other types of drug using have been sexually abused more by Indian track driver respectively. There have also been found the significant associations of perpetrators of drug affecting with smuggler’s age, educational status, father’s education, mother’s education, marital status, reasons of coming to smuggling, monthly income through smuggling, unsafe sex and types of drug affecting respectively. The tendency of drug affecting through male colleague of smuggling and Indian track driver is increasing with increasing smuggler’s age, and unmarried female smugglers have more chance of drug affecting by them. Moreover, the smugglers whose reasons of coming to this profession is poverty have more chance of drug affecting by male colleague of smuggling and the smugglers who exercise unsafe sex have more chance of drug affecting by Indian track driver as against their counterparts. In the light of the present study, it is strongly recommended that enhancing education with community based health related educational program through mass media, avoiding unsafe sex with increasing the effective use of condom, stopping the sexual harassment or sexually abused through smuggling and the influence to take drugs by their male colleagues, Indian track drivers or others in the profession, empowering the female smugglers and poverty reduction strategy are essential for reducing the vulnerability to HIV infection as well as for stopping smuggling among female smugglers in Hilli port, Bangladesh. Hopefully, this study would be very helpful for policy makers, program designers/planners to design or redesign program(s) or existing program(s) considering the identified risk factors.Item Border conflict and the future foreign policy of Bangladesh(©University of Dhaka, 2024-03-28) Islam, Md. Golam SamdaniThe study titled BRAC Pre-primary Education (BPPE) : An Exploratory Study on The Standards of Quality Teaching and Learning has been conducted by Md. Rafiqul Islam for investigating the standards of quality learning environment of PPE at BRAC schools and identifying the challenges to meet the standards of quality learning environment for preprimary classes at BRAC schools. By using qualitative approach the study has explored the major factors of quality learning environment referring to Accessibility of the School Environment and Participation, Classroom Activities, Classroom Management and Practice, Teaching Learning Materials/Aids, Communication and Interaction, Performance Assessment of Children, Leadership and Team Work Practices at School. Accessibility of the School Environment. 30 children of 5-6 years old including minimum two kids with special needs have the accessibility to BPPS. Instead of retention the dropped out child, another one is replaced from the school community. Lack of interest, good communication creates negative effect on access to BPPS.. Classroom Activities including co-curricular events arranged inside and outside the school through multiple ways of teaching and learning are found very good. Good classroom has been ensured through time maintenance, monitoring, supervision implementing lesson plan and class routine. Through classroom observation classroom management has been found very well. Maximum teaching-learning materials provided by BRAC, some collected from outside are used in various ways. For further improvement school dress and mid-meal are needed . Inter and intra personal communication among students and other stakeholders are good. teacher-parents association, community gathering, and awarding best parents are suggested for better communication. Children Assessments are conducted through Formative and summative ways. Everyday Attendance, playing performance and cultural activities are suggested to add in the final evaluation of the children. Through Lesson Plans, Outdoor tour, various plays and games, verbal and written communication are practiced for Leadership Development and Team Work. The study has found that the maximum parameters of learning environment are very good, some are good and very few are at fair level. Almost all respondents have faced the challenges to enrol the students; ensure the presence at class, stop the drop-out, and conduct the teaching-learning activities from their side respectively. The areas which have been found good and fair need to be improved through institutional development.Item Causes for hospitalizations at upazila health complexes in Bangladesh(2010-08) Ahmed, Sirajuddin; Siddique, A.K.; Iqbal, Anwarul; Rahman, F.K. Rafiqul; Abdallah, WahidTo envision the Government‟s Vision 2021 as well as to materialize the concept of “Digital Bangladesh‟‟ the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) has introduced Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) in Public procurement business process in June, 2011. It is a single platform which is working to ensure good governance in the public procurement process through ICT. The utilization of e-GP in construction sector has been widespread in Bangladesh, but to date it is consider e-GP as a new phenomenon in Goods &related services procurement. It‟s a big challenge for GOB to introduce e-GP through the all organizations. The government has a plan to improve Public procurement management & enhance monitoring capacity through digitization process. The GOB has selected 32 organisations‟ which has mandatory obligation to roll out e-GP for institutionalizing e-GP system. Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) is one of the organization among them which started its e-GP in very small scale in 2015.There was a large number of procurement study in manual procurement since last fifteen years in the world but the empirical study on e-GP system; especially in Bangladesh is very limited specially on Health & Family Planning related procurement in Bangladesh. Understanding the importance of such a study, I conducted a questionnaire survey regarding e-GP implementation challenges in DGFP. The study is based on questionnaire survey regarding the user experience and perception on e-GP in DGFP. The present research study has intended to identify the present trend of manual procurement and e-GP, the gaps in procuring system especially in e-GP implementation and find out the way forward process. It has also an objective to analyses the present traditional procurement status comparing with e-GP. A conceptual framework has been developed through different literature review as well as secondary data analysis and that has subsequently been tested with collected primary data from the procurement personnel of DGFP. The study applies a purposive sampling technique to receive the research objectives regarding the e-GP in DGFP. The results indicate that at present all procurement personnel‟s of DGFP are not well groomed in e-GP system, they have shortages of sufficient logistics support. They are facing several numbers of challenges like lack of skilled manpower on e-GP system; lack of willingness to use e-GP system by Top Management, lack of knowledge of tenderer and lack of high speed internet connectivity. This study consider both manual(traditional) procurement and e-GP .Despites these challenges, e-GP system have been achieving a wider level of acceptance among tenders as well as among procuring entities in DGFP and other organisations‟ in Bangladesh. Users have strong perception on e-GP system P a g e | xi to ensure transparency and accountability in public procurement as e-GP system increased performance and quality, reduce cost by increasing efficiency. This study will helpful for the government organizations that are going to roll out e-GP system in their public procurement.Item Characterization of the coastal rice landraces of Bangladesh with microsatellite DNA markers and tolerance determinants(© University of Dhaka, 2025-04-23) Islam, Md. RafiqulItem Deep Learning Based Ceramic Tile Defect Recognition(Daffodil International University, 2020-07-01) Hosain, Md. Kamran; Islam, Md. RafiqulThe global market for ceramic tiles industry is highly competitive nowadays. Quality control in the production process in the ceramic tile industry has been a key factor for retaining existence in such a competitive market. Deep learning-based ceramic tile inspection systems are very useful in this respect because the manual inspection is time consuming and not accurate enough. Hence, deep learning can help ceramic tile inspection system faster and accurate. Two difficult problems are mainly posed by deep learning based ceramic tile inspection systems. They are defect detection and defect detection classification. Even though there has been plenty of research addressing the defect detection problem, the research aiming at solving the classification problem is scarce. Moreover, in this research, we used two models to compare with our proposed variation CNN model to find out which is the better one to identify defect detection. We have found four types of defected tiles including multi-label defected tiles. In this research, first we used VGG-16 for training and we got 54% accuracy which was not good enough. Then we tried another model for training, Inception-v3 gave us an optimistic result on training dataset which was 95%. Then we have used our proposed CNN model on the tiles dataset and we got 96% accuracy for training datasets of images. Even though Inceptionv3 has better accuracy on training datasets but for testing datasets, it gives a poor result of 33%, On the other hand with our proposed variation of CNN model we can identify defected tiles by 91%. Finally, this thesis paper focuses and proposes technical aspects of tiles defect detection in a faster and easier way by comparing our proposed variation of the CNN model with other pre-trained models.Item DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN AUTOMATIC WHEELCHAIR FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE(Daffodil International University, 2019-01-01) Islam, Md. Rafiqul; Bhuiyan, Dr. Ashraful GhaniPhotovoltaic (PV) power generation is becoming widespread as a clean and gentle energy source for the earth. The main drawback of currently used photovoltaic cell is its low conversion efficiency and materials with the appropriate band gaps that can perfectly match the broad range of solar radiation. Recently it has been shown that the energy gap of 1nGa1 N alloys potentially can be continuously varied from 0.7 to 3.4 eV, providing a perfect matching to the full-solar-spectrum. Therefore, InGa t N becomes a promising material for very high efficiency multijunction solar cell. Any desired value of bandgap can be obtained from this material choosing the appropriate composition. In this work, InGa.N-based multijunction solar cells have been designed theoretically for high efficiency and the performance of the designed solar cells are evaluated with various parameters. The theoretical design and performance evaluation are done by developing a simulation model. The developed mode optimized the solar cell design for high efficiency at different junction numbers. The efficiency is found to be varied from 24.49 to 45.35 % for single junction to eight junction solar cells. The current mismatches of multijunction solar cell are kept within 0.29%. The lattice mismatches between different cells were found to be varied from 0.86 to 3.15%. The increase in surface recombination velocity and emitter thickness decreases the efficiency. On the other hand, the increase in minority carrier lifetime of emitter and base, and doping density increase the efficiency. In order to get more accurate results the effect of depletion width was taken into account. However, no significant change is observed between the results without and with considering le depletion width. The performance of InGaN-based MJ solar cells under concentrator is studied. The efficiency is found to be varied from 24.49 to 39.28 (%) for single junction and 45.35 to 72.79 (%) for eight junction, without and with concentrator. respectively. This model can be applied to design the solar cells at any number of junctions.Item Determinants of Health Condition and Estimation of Demographic Parameters of Street Children in Dhaka City, Bangladesh(University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, 2021) Shahiduzzaman, Md.; Islam, Md. Rafiqul; Ali, M. Korban; Islam, Md. NurulHealth and demographic condition of street children are important issues for the development of any country. Several researchers estimated that a substantial percent of total street children in Bangladesh are living in the Capital City, Dhaka, Bangladesh. But no study is available which concentrated to in-depth study of health condition and estimation of demographic parameters for the street children. So the aim of this study is to identify the determinants of health condition and estimation of demographic parameters of street children in Dhaka city, Bangladesh. We have used convenient sampling for selection of samples. The data were collected from 1108 street children in different places of Dhaka City using a comprehensive questionnaire. In this study, x2 statistic was used to test the significance of the association between the dependent and independent variables of the street children. Binary logistic regression model was also employed to identify the effect of the some important independent variables on dependent variable. To have a smooth pattern of age 3 years moving average technique and "4253H twice" smoothing technique were applied in this study. It was found that among total sample data 84.9% were male and only 15.1 % were female. Age structure of street children followed a polynomial function of degree four. Probability of dying (qJ calculated for street Children showed an expected pattern. The migration rate from rural to urban of male street children was higher than that of female street children. Migration rate of street working children was the highest among four types of street children. Migration rate of street children of illiterate fathers was higher than that of street children of literate fathers. Migration rate of street children of illiterate mothers was higher than that of street children of literate mothers.Item Educational Administration in Bangladesh: A Study of Managerial Problems of Government Teachers Training Colleges(University of Rajshahi, 2004) Islam, Md. Rafiqul; Rahman, M. ShamsurEducation is a dynamic force in the life of every individual, influencing his/her physical, mental, emotional, social and ethical development. It is also equally important from the social and national point of view. National development of a country obviously depends on educational advancement, but what are the pre-conditions of educational development? A number of pre-conditions jointly could contribute to the development of quality education, where quality teacher is one of the key factors. Quality teacher cannot be produced without proper education and training. Teacher training program or pedagogy has yet to be received proper attention in the educational system of Bangladesh, though it was first introduced about one and a half century back in the subcontinent. Initial teacher training programs are running at primary and secondary levels very traditionally. Eleven govt. teachers' training colleges (TTCs) and a few private TTCs approved by the National University have been conducting the secondary level teacher-training program of the country. The teacher-training program and its conducting institutes are struck with a series of predominant problems, where management issue is considered the paramount of all concerns. Managerial problems refer to a series of problems related to management process. Hence, it is desirable to know as to what extent problems prevail in managing the Govt. teacl1er training colleges of the country. Therefore, the present study has been undertaken to investigate the managerial problems tl1at lying with lhe conducting process of the Govt. teacher training collegesThis dissertation is mainly the result of a field survey conducted over the eleven govt. TTCs and partly of a few document analyses on educational administration and management situation of the country. The field of inquiry may be divided into six broad aspects. The first part of the study deals with the existing facilities and management aspects of the govt. teacher training colleges; while the second part refers examining the problems prevailing with the management process and also the manager himself. The third is devoted to examine the quality and competence of the teaching staff, as well as effectiveness of their classroom teachings. The fourth is involved in identifying the extent of professional knowledge and skill of the office, library and hostel staff and their role within the present condition. The fifth attempts to investigate the opportunities as well as tl1e threats prevailing for the trainees with the existing teaching-learning environment of govt. TTCs, and the final part of the study sums up the whole observation. The study makes it clear that the authority of educational administration and management is highly centralized and authoritarian. Besides, acute limitations of coordination exist among the different stages, levels and bodies of educational management. The staffing pattern of the faculty members of govt. TTC is defective regarding status and professional development of them. The teachers teach the major optional and a few elective subjects of BEd and MEd courses without having appropriate background. Contents of BEd and MEd courses are overwhellned with theory and extensive compared to the ten months long course duration. The govt. TTCs are facing acute problems with limited posts and vacancies of the existing teaching posts and other posts of office employees. Moreover, there is no adequate opportunity of in-service training for the administrative and the faculty nurnl, ers and 11ot at all for the office and library staff. Concept, attitude and quality of a few of the principals and viceprincipals of govt. TTCs have not appeared satisfactory. They like to think themselves as administrator rather than manager. Majority teaching staff of the govt. TTCs is traditional in thinking and also using only lecture method or lecture followed by discussion, and not using any teaching aids and equipments in their classroom activities. Due to a large-scale vacancies of the existing posts and lack of inservice training for the office and library staff situation of these two organs of Govt. TTCs is highly dissatisfactory. The role played by the higher authority of the govt. TTC is neither sufficient nor effective. It appears from the study that the heads of TTCs also fail to play vibrant role to cater quality training to the trainee graduates as well as to administer other activities. They also face many limitations and shortfalls to perform their job up to the expectation. The trainees are not satisfied with the existing class and study loads; and the inadequate facilities they get such as library, laboratory, hostel accommodation and amusement facilities. The number of teaching practices currently attained by the trainees of the BEd course is insufficient to make an efficient teacher and modalities of supervision and evaluation of the teaching practices are not very effective to upgrade their quality.Item Efficacy of sodium citrate to replace sodium bicarbonate in oral rehydration solution(1983-06) Islam, Md. RafiqulTilapia is one of most widely cultured fish in the world. According to FAO, 2009 farmed tilapia represents more than 75% of world tilapia production. Tilapia is considered suitable for culture, because of their high tolerance to adverse environmental condition, their relatively fast growth and resistance to disease, excellent quality of its firmly textured flesh and finely appetizing fish to the consumer. Tilapia feed on a wide of dietary sources, including phytoplankton, zooplanktons, larval fish and detritus. The objective of the present study was to assess the better growth performance of tilapia fry with live feed Moina macrocopa in comparison to commercial feed. Three feeds were used in three treatments where treatment T1 using hand made feed (control), Treatment-T2 using commercial feed and treatment-T3 Moina macrocopa as live feed. Thirty fry were stocked in each 60 L aquarium for 56 days rearing. The fishes were fed twice a day of body weight for first 20 days 10%, then 8% for 15 days and 5% for remaining days. Sampling was done at 14 days interval. The rearing and feeding trail in the experimental condition the changes in growth and feed utilization by tilapia fry fed on live feed and other feed have been assessed by the determination of condition factor (K%), average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR). The average growth performance of moina macrocopa was more in spirulina, 710 individuals/ L of water, 600 individuals/L of water was found at 12 days. After culturing 30 days proximate composition of m macrocopa was found moisture protein fat ash content 87.32%, 8.5%, 3.22% and 0.6% respectively The highest average daily gain 0.13± 0.01 g/day, specific growth rate 3.90±0.88, survival rate 91.5±1.5% were found after rearing of 56 days in treatment T3 (live M. macrocopa as feed). The lowest average daily gain 0.04± 0.02, specific growth rate 1.72 ± 0.82, feed conversion ratio 0.69 ± 0.41, survival rate 88.5% was found at treatment T1 (control). Highest protein content 15.91% was found in treatment T3, Where the protein content in commercial feed and handmade feed were 11.88% and 10.96 % respectively. From the present study it may be stated that live M. macrocopa may be used as a good feed for tilapia fry rearing.Item INTEGRATED APPROACH FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF PURPLE BLOTCH COMPLEX OF ONION CAUSED BY ALTERNARIA PORRI AND STEMPllYLIUM BOTRYOSUM(Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), 2007-12) Islam, Md.
