    A Comprehensive Review of the Current Progress of Chromium Removal Methods from Aqueous Solution

    Chromium (Cr) exists in aqueous solution as trivalent (Cr3+) and hexavalent (Cr6+) forms. Cr3+ is an essential trace element while Cr6+ is a dangerous and carcinogenic element, which is of great concern globally due to its extensive applications in various industrial processes such as textiles, manufacturing of inks, dyes, paints, and pigments, electroplating, stainless steel, leather, tanning, and wood preservation, among others. Cr3+ in wastewater can be transformed into Cr6+ when it enters the environment. Therefore, research on Cr remediation from water has attracted much attention recently. A number of methods such as adsorption, electrochemical treatment, physico-chemical methods, biological removal, and membrane filtration have been devised for efficient Cr removal from water. This review comprehensively demonstrated the Cr removal technologies in the literature to date. The advantages and disadvantages of Cr removal methods were also described. Future research directions are suggested and provide the application of adsorbents for Cr removal from waters.

    Fully automated satellite tracking system for directional antenna

    When a Low Orbiting Cube satellite passes over a location it can receive and transmit HF/UHF frequency in a directional radiation. We get maximum efficiency when the satellite and the GS’s antenna stays in straight direction. Here we developed a low cost, dependable and efficient satellite tracking system. This system is able to move GS’s directional antenna precisely to maintain a straight-line direction with the targeted satellite throughout the whole pass. The tracking system divided into rotator and control box part. For rotator system we use DC motor for both azimuthal and elevation rotation. The motor have high torque with low RPM to rotate the rotator at precise angle. Controller box is interfaced with CPU such a way that it automatically collect the azimuth and elevation value from CPU and according to the data it will run the gear system. The CPU run algorithm to calculate the present position of the targeted satellite from updated TLE. A feedback system read the position of rotor by using voltage dividing rule and compare the real position with expected position. According the available data, controller box calculate and fix antenna’s elevation & azimuth precisely. The control box continue the process again and again throughout the whole pass. That is how satellite and GS’s antenna able to maintain a straight direction. The designed system is be able to carry different gain antenna in same antenna tower. Which reduce the space demand for tower installation and increase the efficiency. The designed system is so universal that user can modify the rotator system according to their weight demand. The controller box for the specific rotator is designed by using Atmega 2560, Cytron MD10C, BOURNS 3590 and B10K potentiometer. Through this designed satellite tracking system user will be able to track & operate mission both manually and automatically, when satellite will pass over ground station. This design also increase the chance to install automatic data collection center at remote area and help to gather more field data for further research.

    Impact of short duration and high yielding aman rice varieties in Manga areas of Bangladesh

    „Manga‟, a near-famine situation which hits the northern region of Bangladesh every year, has forced poor people either to borrow money from usurers at an excessively high interest rate or to sell their labor in advance at an unusually low rate to keep their families from starvation. Many people sell their meager produce of aman crops well before harvesting to tide them over during the acute shortage of employment and food. The five districts of the northern region of Bangladesh that are most affected by manga are Kurigram, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, and Rangpur. Other locations significantly affected are the areas cultivated with rice variety Binadhan-7, which is grown for its low crop duration of 110-120 days and for its average yield of 4.07 t/ha. These characteristics are similar to those of local rice varieties Sarna (4.29 t/ha) and BR-11 (4.29 t/ha). Early maturing rice varieties, which are harvested during aman, facilitate rabi crop cultivation (winter crops). These crops include potato, mustard, and wheat among others. The cultivation of early maturing varieties also allows for the engagement of farm laborers in harvesting and processing activities during the manga period of October and November.

    Improving Lesion Segmentation for Breast Cancer Detection

    Breast cancer is the most common cause of death among patients and one of the main reasons is that the lesion is not identified properly. Ultrasound images are very difficult to segment due to presence of speckle noise and the boundaries of abnormal regions are too difficult to recognize due to similarity. For this reason, proper medical facility or treatment cannot be provided in time. The situation in Bangladesh is alarming as there is a huge female population in the rural areas who don’t have proper medical access to detect the early stage of breast cancer. We have implemented a Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system that will detect the cancerous lesion in the BUS (breast ultrasound) images effectively. We implemented a region growing algorithm which can segment the object of interests (lesion). We place the seed on the ultrasound image (original image), check homogeneity and merge the homogeneous regions. After that we use horizontal cut based entropy filtering and at last by canny edge detection we subtract the object of interests (lesion) from the desired ultrasound image. We also implemented developed watershed algorithm and assimilated it with region growing algorithm

    Investigation of Different Herbicides on Weed Infestation and Yield Performance of Transplant Binadhan-14 (Oryza sativa L.) in Bangladesh

    This study was carried out at the agronomy farm of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, Bangladesh, between November 2015 and May 2016, to investigate the weed control on rice growth and yield performance of transplant Binadhan-14 (boro rice). Six selected herbicides (H1: bensulfuron methyl 4% + acetachlor 14% 18 wettable powder [WP] 500 g·ha-1, H2: pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 10 WP 125 g·ha-1, H3: metsulfuron-methyl 20 water dispersible granule [WDG] 50 g·ha-1, H4: pretilachlor 500 emulsifiable concentrate [EC] 1 L·ha-1, H5: 2, 4 D amine 480 soluble liquid [SL] 1.8 L·ha-1, H6: butachlor 5 granule [G] 25 kg·ha-1) were tested along with two hand weedings. Weed density, fresh and dry weight of weeds were taken from eight weed species (Echinochloa colonum, Paspalums crobiculatum, Monochoria vaginalis, Leersia hexandra, Scirpus mucronatus, Digitaria sanguinalis, Cyperus rotundus and Eclipta alba Hassk) belonging to five families were found to grow in the experimental plots. Among the weed control treatments highest grain yield (5.00 T·ha-1) was obtained with the treatment pretilachlor 500 EC 1 L·ha-1 followed by two hand weedings (4.97 T·ha-1). It was observed that yield was increased due to application of herbicide contributed mainly from increasing the yield contributing characteristics of rice like, number of total tillers and effective tillers per plant, filled grains per panicle and 1000-seed weight (g). Maximum benefit- cost ratio with pretilachlor 500 EC 1 L·ha-1 suggested that this herbicidal treatment can be used for effective in controlling weeds as an alternative when labor was crisis in producing for better yield of transplant Binadhan-14 (Oryza sativa) rice cultivar

    IoT Based Air Quality and Noise Pollution Monitoring System

    Air pollution is the presence of contaminants or poisonous substances that interfere with human health or welfare or create destructive natural impacts. With the fast improvement of communication innovations, remote sensing technology, and air pollution monitoring systems, it is possible to check the air concentration and take appropriate action. In this paper, a system is developed that can monitor different parameters, like O 3 , NO 2 , CO 2 , and temperature in real time. The control system converts all the data to human-readable values. With the development of a communication system, all data is stored in a cloud database. A decision-making calculation algorithm is developed using advanced technology like cloud computing. Further, a visual platform was created to allow the user to access the data remotely.

    Teachers' understanding and practice of CLT in higher secondary level of Bangladesh

    Recently, English plays a unique role as an international lingua franca over the world. The fact that English is mostly used worldwide among people for whom it is a second or foreign language is an indicator of such uniqueness. This distinctiveness does not only refer to the language itself, but also to the ways it is taught as a foreign language. Some of the pedagogical principles especially in Bangladesh that have informed foreign language teaching in the last few decades need to be reconsidered when that language is taught in English. Some questions need to be addressed, such as to what extent is the CLT framework working in Bangladesh? What beliefs or concepts do teachers have of CLT? What are the teachers’ attitudes toward CLT techniques? What is the role of grammar in the CLT class? What are the teachers’ attitudes toward the prescribed materials designed by national Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach for the Higher Second Colleges in Bangladesh? To what extent are CLT activities used in the classrooms? The aim of this study was to investigate the extent to which such issues were part of the belief system of teachers in Bangladesh and what impact they had on actual classroom practice. The findings indicated that the majority of the respondents believed CLT is not working properly in Bangladesh. As a result, we should reconsider the practical implication of CLT in the classrooms. However, the pattern was more complex and variegated than this brief summary might suggest, especially when the teachers’ beliefs were compared to their classroom practice.
