AzizulWhen solar system was not invented there was no idea about renewable energy. But still that time scientist are try to discover something which is related to renewable energy. At the very first time French physicist Edmond Becquerel in 1839 invented the photovoltaic effect when he research with a cell made of metal electrodes in a conducting solution. He saw that the cell provides electrical energy when its exposed on light. Later in 1873 Willoughby Smith saw that selenium have a function of photoconductor. In 1883, American inventor Charles Fritz first time discovered modern solar system. From that time until now every researcher try to implement modern solar system. Solar energy has brought a massive change with us. Previously solar (PV) technologies were divided into smaller parts. It currently produces a large amount of electricity as it is connected to the grid. The price of solar technology is slowly coming down a lot compared to the previous 30 years. For example, the cost of high power band solar modules has decreased from about $27,000/kW in 1982 to about $4,000/kW in 2006. The installed cost of a PV system declined from $16,000/kW in 1992 to around $6,000/kW in 2008 (IEA-PVPS, 2007; Solarbuzz, 2006, Lazard 2009). The rapid expansion of the solar energy market can be attributed to a number of supportive policy instruments, the increased volatility of fossil fuel prices and the environmental externalities of fossil fuels, particularly greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.Item Effect of Methoxy and Lipophilic Prenyl Substituents on Structure Activity Relationship of Some Synthesized Hydroxychalcones; Determined by Antimicrobial, Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activity(University of Rajshahi, 2015) Khatun, Mst. Marzina; Lumbiny, Bilkis Jahan; Islam, Md. AzizulNatural chalcones and their derivatives, plant pigments are abundantly present in fem to higher plants especially in different parts of edible plants. They are belonging to flavonoid family and also considered to be main precursors in the biosynthesis of flavones, isoflavones and other biologically essential heterocycles. Flavonoids are the most common naturally occurring antioxidants and found ubiquitously in plants as pigments for flower coloration, in fruits and vegetables and play an ecological role in nature. A series of 2'-hydroxychalcones and their derivatives are found to have potential therapeutic agents against bacterial diseases. Chalcones are 1, 3- diphenyl-2-propene-1-one, in which two aromatic rings are linked by a three carbon a, -unsaturated carbonyl system (-CO-CH=CH-). These possess conjugated double bonds and a completely delocalized n-electron system on both benzene rings. Molecules possessing such system have relatively low redox potentials and have a greater probability of undergoing electron transfer reactions. During the last sixty years synthetic as well as isolation works on the chalcones are being done throughout the world. They have been demonstrated to possess unique templates associated with very diverse application mainly biological and pharmacological activities such as antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antiallergic, antiviral, antineoplastic, anti-thrombotic and vasodilatory activities and inhibitory activities in several enzymes. Structure activity relationship (SAR) is also an important factor which has aroused considerable interest to the chemist. Different functional groups which are attached to the benzene ring of chalcones can be varied to enhance activity. Chalcones and its derivatives are still an object of sustained interest thus the present study has been extended by synthesizing eight substituted chalcones; 2' -hydroxychalcone (3a), 2' -hydroxy -4 -methoxychalcone (3b), 2' -hydroxy - 2, 4, 5 - trimethoxychalcone (3c), 2', 5' - dihydroxy - 2, 4, 6 -trimethoxychalcone (3d), 4 - hydroxy - 3', 4', 5' - trimethoxychalcone (3e), 2' - hydroxy - 3' - C - prenylchalcone (4a), 2' - hydroxy - 5' - C -prenylchalcone (4b), 2', 5' - dihydroxy - 2, 4, 6 - trimethoxy - 3' - C -prenylchalcone (4c) based on Claisen-Schimdt condensation method from substituted benzaldehyde and acetophenone in good yield. They have been characterized by spectral data. The potency of the development of new antibiotic or chemotherapeutic agents is highly based on in vitro antimicrobial screening. The synthesized chalcones (3a-3e, 4a-4c) were screened in vitro for their antibacterial activity against four pathogenic bacteria viz. Bacillus caerius (G+, B1 ), Staphylococcus aureus (G+, B2), Eschericia coli (G-, B3), Agrobacterium Species (G-, B4). The primary assay was performed by disc diffusion technique to classify the microorganism susceptible as well as resistant towards particular compounds. The bioactivity is expressed by the diameter of zone of inhibition in mm. Synthesized chalcones 3d, 3b, 3b, 4c in 250 µg/disc showed very high activity against B1 (3 8), B2 ( 40), B3 (30), B4 ( 40) respectively comparing to those of the standard drug ( ciprofloxacin, C-50). The rest of the chalcones showed moderately good activity in different condition. In addition the synthesized chalcones (3a-3e, 4a-4c) were evaluated for in vitro antioxidant activity using diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) model. Observation for antioxidant activity is expressed in terms of percent scavenging of DPPH radical and the inhibitory concentration 50% (IC50) is lowest for structure 3d, 0.923 (µg/mL) at DPPH cone. 0.02% indicating highest activity. The compound 3d contains two phenolic -OH group and suppose to produce phenoxide free radical easily and stabilized by electronic group methoxy occupied ortho and para position of aromatic ring attached to benzaldehyde part. Other structures showed good antioxidant activity as compared to the standard, ascorbic acid,Item Evaluation of Serum Prostate Specific Antigen Levels to Differentiate Prostate Cancer from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia(University of Rajshahi, 2024) Islam, Md. Azizul; Islam, S. M. Shahinul; Haque, Md. Jawadul; Hossain, Md. MokterThe prostate gland is the male secondary sexual organ most commonly affected by benign or malignant neoplasm. Prostate cancer (Ca-P) is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in men and is now the third commonest cause of cancer death in western countries. The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of serum prostate-specific antigen levels in differentiating prostate cancer from benign prostatic hyperplasia. This study was carried out with 288 patients-benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) = 192 and carcinoma prostate-96) and the study population included the male patients above 50 years of age, who attended at the Department of Urology, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), Rajshahi, and different private clinics in Rajshahi City complaining irritative or obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) suspected as clinically prostate cancer or benign prostatic hyperplasia. Prostatic carcinoma was observed to be significantly higher from 80 years onwards, while BPH was common between 60 - 80 years (p = 0.00001). Data shows the validity or accuracy of the free/total ratio of serum PSA as a diagnostic test in differentiating prostatic carcinoma from BPH in patients with total PSA PSA levels between 4-10 ng/ml. The percentage of false positives was significantly higher when total PSA ratio was used to diagnose the disease compared to when free to total PSA ratio was used as a diagnostic tool (p<0.000001). The overall accuracy of total PSA was also significantly lower (61.45%) than that of free/total PSA (91.67%) (p<0.011526). Another study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of prostatic carcinoma is the outcome of several factors including improved awareness the general population of the significance of carcinoma of the prostate and progresses in diagnostic approaches. The PSA is a probable prostate cancer tumour marker, although it cannot distinguish prostate cancer from BPH solely. To assess the usefulness of ree, total, and free/total PSA ratios in differentiating BPH and prostate cancer has been studied under this research work. Here, 350 patients with symptoms of the lower urinary tract, such as frequent urination, urgency, reluctance, poor flow, incontinence and nocturia, excessively big or nodular prostate detected by digital rectal examination suspected for BPH or prostate cancer were studied in men aged 50 and older. Prostatic cancer was more prevalent in men aged 70-80, whereas BPH was more common in men aged 60-70 (p = 0.00032). Histopathology revealed 95 prostate cancer patients, 82 with PSA >4 ng/ml and 85 patients had f/t PSA ratio>0.16. BPH was found in 255 individuals. 139 BPH patients had total PSA >4 ng/ml and 245 BPH patients had f/t PSA ratio ≤0.16. Total PSA had sensitivity and specificity of 86.32% and 45.49%, respectively, lower than f/t ratio. The (positive predictive value) PPV and accuracy was significantly higher in f/t ratio than total PSA.Item Photocatalytic Decomposition of Selected Textile Industrial Effluent on Fe-Ti-Zn Oxide Catalysts(University of Rajshahi, 2020) Tareque, Mahmud Hasan; Mostafa, Md. Golam; Islam, Md. AzizulTextile dyeing industries produce a large volume of wastewater containing printing and dyeing residues of reactive dyes and chemicals. The release of colored organic compounds in the effluents contaminates the surface and ground water and is considered to be the source of nonaesthetic pollution and eutrophication. So, it is imperative to treat the discharge effluents before releasing them to the environment. The present study focused on the characterization of the untreated effluents to understand the pollution status as well as optimize the process parameters for their degradation and mineralization by heterogeneous photocatalysis. The dyeing effluents were collected from three (3) textile dying industries of Rajshahi and Sirajganj districts. The analyzed physicochemical parameters for these effluent samples included pH, EC, DO, TDS, TSS, COD, BOD, TOC, heavy metals, and anions. The analyses were done using several methods such as gravimetric, electrochemical, colorimetric, and optical. The effluents were subjected to photocatalytic degradation using three different photocatalysts as TiO2, ZnO, and Fe2O3. The study optimized various operational parameters, including initial effluent concentration, catalyst concentration, catalyst type, pH, reaction time, and oxidizing agent dose to get the maximum degradation efficiency of an individual and mixed catalyst for a particular textile dyeing effluents.Item PW-612 Business Implementation of My Abroad Edu(Daffodil International University, 2025-01-05) Islam, Md.
