    A Comparative Study on Non-Performing Loans of Some Selected State-Owned and Private Commercial Banks in Bangladesh

    This thesis utilizes the data gathered from 5 state-owned commercial banks along with the 16 private commercial banks for the time period of 2009 to 2017 to perform a comparative analysis. Dynamic panel data model (GMM estimation) has been employed with time dummies to determine the effect of non-performing loans, efficiency, loan recovery and loan write-off. Furthermore, questionnaire survey with five-point LIKERT scale has been conducted to formulate the important comparative factors under which the state-owned and private banks can be clearly distinguished. Before performing the comparative analysis, this thesis also used the data gathered from 16 private commercial banks for the time period 2006 to 2017 to investigate the relationship between non-performing loans and its determining factors. Dynamic panel data model (GMM estimation) has also been employed in this case with time dummies to control for macroeconomic events to determine the effect of bank-specific factors on the performance of loans. Questionnaire survey with five-point LIKERT scale had been conducted to formulate the perception of bankers and borrowers about the prevailing factors affecting the condition of non-performing loans. Before the comparative analysis between the state-owned and private commercial banks, this thesis analyzes the impact of the cost of fund, average lending rate and excessive loans from a long- run perspective. In this regard, lagged per-capita GDP and real interest rate have been used to control for macroeconomic factors. Time dummies were used to replace the macroeconomic factors to find out the overall time-specific fixed effects on the condition of nonperforming loans. Additionally, this paper uses the banks size and individual bank’s loan to total loans of the banking industry as a measure of bank size and market power. This is a novel research in Bangladesh which specifically identifies the impact of lagged credit lending by banks up to four years. Moreover, this paper uses the lagged per-capita GDP up to two periods to investigate the impact GDP on the performance of bank’s loan quality. Empirical analysis in this study has found a significant relationship between lagged credit growth and the future non-performing loans. Loans which are disbursed today out of competition or aggressiveness have a huge probability of becoming default in the long-run. Furthermore, this research also uses inflation-adjusted cost of fund and average lending rate to find a significant long-run association with bad loans. Another finding of this research indicates that an increase in the cost of fund induces a positive change in the lending rate in the following period which ultimately affects the credit quality in the long-run. Empirical results have shown that there is a significant positive relationship between the banks’ “cost of fund” and “non-performing loans” in the long-run but the relationship is not significant in the shorter time frame. The results highlight a strong long-run causality between banks’ NPLs and COF in the PCBs of Bangladesh. Furthermore, results also suggest that higher NPLs for some banks can induce in the rise in banks’ COF in a bidirectional form. Moreover, the results have shown that higher COF leads to the growth of NPLs and as a result, the provision for bad loans is also increased which ultimately reduces the income of the banks. This process forces the banks to write-off loans from the balance sheet to reduce the non-performing assets from the books. In terms of the lending rate, the study found some interesting situations where higher lending rate causes the non-performing loans to fall and rise gradually. It has been found in the study that higher lending rate causes a decline in the demand of the loans which makes the current non-performing loans smaller. This situation does not prevail for a long period of time because banks ultimately increase the loan growth abruptly to maintain their earnings which causes the bad loans to increase in the long-run. Based on the questionnaire survey, this thesis brings out the perception of bankers and borrowers in identifying the bank-specific and macroeconomic factors of non-performing loans in Bangladesh. This investigation used questionnaire survey on 75 bankers and 25 borrowers in 2018 to identify the effect of the cost of fund and average lending rate on the non-performing loans. The data have been collected through face to face interview, telephone and emails. The study found political stability, loan evaluation, banking corruption, energy-crisis and borrowers honesty to be significantly related to non-performing loans. The survey used face to face interview, emails and phone calls to question about the factors of bad loans. The study used SPSS software to find the reliability of the survey. The study used the variable cost of fund and lending rate to formulate a link in analyzing the relationship between cost of fund and nonperforming loans. Finally, the comparison between the state-owned and private commercial banks revealed important comparing factors under which the distinction between these different bank groups have been put forward. GMM estimation results found that cost efficiency, loan write-off and loan recovery (which was previously written off ) does not affect the state-owned commercial banks in the same manner as they affect the private banks. Non-performing loans were found to be significant for both bank groups that affected their profitability negatively. The effect of operating cost (measure of efficiency )was insignificant on the profitability of the state-owned commercial banks unlike the negative impact it posed on the income of the private banks. The comparative analysis found loan write-off to pose a negative impact on the pre and after-tax profit of the private commercial banks but the effect was not significant for the public banks. Loan recovery had a positive consequence on the profit of the private commercial banks as expected but the recovery of the written off loans did not increase the profit of the public banks. Aside from the comparative analysis through secondary data, the study also employed another questionnaire survey through face to face interview to compare the pubic banks with the private banks. The study found non-performing loans, capital injection, use of advanced technology, corruption, branding and marketing, willful defaulters, cost inefficiency, loan against letter of credit acceptance (inland ), customer service and political influence to be the important factors of comparison.

    A Proposed Web-Based Architecture for Diabetes Awareness, Prevention, and Management

    Diabetes is a growing concern and number of diabetes patient is increasing worldwide. Diabetes causes complication which leads to death in a long term. Proper lifestyle management is the key to control this disease. Treatment of diabetes is costly and complication caused by diabetes requires additional treatment. In developing countries, the situation is even worse. To address this problem, an innovative and cost-effective solution is required which will prevent diabetes and helps patient to modify their lifestyle. Web-based architecture can be very fruitful in this regard as it can be accessed from anywhere with IT enabled devices. With the existing infrastructure it can be used as a tool to create awareness, share knowledge and it can also help people to manage their lifestyle effectively. Interactive web-based platform can be used to show tips, diet measurement information and generate preventive measures. In this paper we have reviewed ICT enabled services and articles for diabetes awareness and prevention and proposed a web-based framework that can be used for screening diabetes and educating people about it. We are optimistic that, our proposed framework can improve the healthcare services and reduce the cost of healthcare making life easier.

    Click2Eat: An Online Food Ordering System

    The goal for developing this application is for people to order foods online. Through this application people can also sell their homemade foods. Those people who open their food stalls in rural areas can easily sell their food online and their food can reach many customers who cannot visit them. While selling their products, these new entrepreneurs will face many difficulties but our database can record every details and we will be able to solve their problem easily. This system is developed using Agile Methodology. We developed this system using different iteration process. After developing this system, we tested the whole system and we successfully run this system. We have also included the test log of this system. Rich Appendix System is also concluded in this report. We have included all the screenshots of every page of this application. High and low fidelity design of the system is also included in this report. In the database a admin can access all the possible information received through this application. Admin can see all the sellers and their customers and their information. Through this application a customer will be able to order multiple orders at the same time. A admin in the database will see and will be able to accept them. After receiving their food, customer will be able to give their feedback. This way we will be able to maintain out service quality. At some point we will give rewards to some of our customers.

    Design A 5G Antenna sub-6GHZ for Wireless Communication

    Due to their low cost, small profile, and simplicity of production in circuit boards, micro strip antennas have become a crucial component of modern electronics. The newest phase of wireless communication is known as 5G. While used separately, the 4G and 5G bands have been employed in many nations. In order to construct a dual-band microstrip patch antenna for both 4G and 5G applications, that is the main goal of this study endeavor. The antenna runs at 2.6GHz for 4G applications and 4.5GHz for 5G applications and was built and tested using CST Microwave Studio. The gains of this microstrip patch antenna are 7.1 dBi and 7.2 dBi, respectively, while the reflection coefficients are -19.99 dB (VSWR = 1.263) and - 35.79 dB (VSWR = 1.03). Both frequencies exhibit directivity above 8dBi and a combined efficiency of at least 75%+. Due to its excellent gain performance, this dual-resonance antenna can be included into communications systems.

    Design of a Pelton Turbine using SOLIDWORKS for Ocean Wave Energy Harvesting in MATLAB Simulink

    This article discusses in detail the design and simulation of a Pelton turbine-based ocean wave energy harvesting system. Before that, the quest for renewable energy resources and in this context, the existing ocean wave energy harvesting devices and systems studied from the literature are described in brief. After that, the Pelton turbine’s working principle is also explained with a schematic diagram. The Pelton turbine was designed using SOLIDWORKS, which is a 3D engineering design and product development tool. After that, a MATLAB Simulink model was developed for the energy harvesting process. We simulated the model in the Simulink environment, and simulation results are demonstrated through some graphs. We obtained the maximum and minimum voltages of +440 V and -440 V respectively, a peak to peak current of 340 A, a maximum output electrical power of 3.7 MW, and a maximum speed of 3200 rpm with a constant field voltage of 11.5 V.

    Effect of Metronidazole and Secnidazole against Clinical Isolates of E. Bangladeshi Collected from Mirpur Area, Dhaka City, Bangladesh

    Infectious diseases continue the major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide including Bangladesh. Entamoeba histolytica is the etiological agent of amoebic dysentery and amoebic liver abscess (ALA). Worldwide, 40–50 million symptomatic cases of amoebiasis occur annually and 70,000 to 100,000 deaths are due to this infection. In amoebiasis Metronidazole, a 5-nitroimidazole drug is the drug of choice for intestinal disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica. In 2010-2011 a new species of Entamoeba named E. bangladeshi has been identified, which was positive for Entamoeba organism but negative for E.histolytica, E. disparand E. moshkovskii by PCR. It was found in the feces of children living in Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Till now no studies have been carried out to determine the Sensitivity of Metronidazole and Secnidazole against this new species. Therefore, the objective of the study is to determine the sensitivity of Metronidazole and Secnidazole against clinical isolates of E. bangladeshi. The clinical isolates of E. Bangladeshi were treated with Metronidazole and Secnidazole at different concentrations (2.56, 1.28, 0.64, 0.32, 0.16, 0.08, and 0.04 μg/ml). Drug sensitivity assay of the samples was carried out by using microtiter plates containing 100 μg/ml of parasite. Plates were incubated at 370C. After 4 hours incubation, the viable parasites in Control were 6.3X106 and7.05X106 for testing the Metronidazole and Secnidazole respectively. Viable cell counts of E. Bangladeshi were 3.2X106, 4.5X106 when different concentrations of Metronidazole (2.56 and 1.28 μg/ml) were used. Viable cells counts of E. Bangladeshi were 3.15X106 and 3.65X106 when different concentrations of Secnidazole (2.56 and 1.28 μg/ml) were used. Inhibition of parasite occurred in a dose dependent manner when treated with metronidazole and secnidazole. Cell inhibition was maximum at the highest concentration of individual treatment (Metronidazole and Secnidazole). The results indicate that, Entamoeba isolates in Bangladesh do not seem to be resistant to the commonly used antiamoebic drugs. Metronidazole drug may be a useful treatment to inhibit the growth of E. bangladeshi. Further study is needed to explore different drugs at different concentrations and time intervals to determine the in vitro sensitivity against E. bangladeshi.

    "For financial development and economic stability, commercial banks in Bangladesh has played a vital role. While I was interning at Mutual Trust Bank, Centre Corporate Branch, I have gathered valuable experiences which are going to be my main focus of my report. It has been a leading bank throughout the country. I have done some extensive study on the organization and learned many their way of things about their service marketing. First of all, in the very first chapter, I will be mentioning the overview of the internship. Basic information will be provided in this chapter, which include job scopes, contribution of the students, the benefits gained by the students, problems faced by them and how they will be able to overcome it. The second chapter of the report covers the total overview of the marketing association and their management, including the financial details and customer service they provide. The services provided by the bank is mentioned in the report which will give a full understanding. From the general banking operations, I have learned some valuable customer services they are providing to keep the bank functional. These services include CDD analysis like knowing your customers (KYC), opening of different types of account like savings, current, SND, FDR, DPS etc. Due to these customer services, I was able to focus on working on these services to maintain the functionalities of the organization. Last but not the least, the last chapter will include literature reviews, the findings I have discovered including their analysis, the recommendations are also mentioned in the last part of the report for a better and brief understanding.     Human Activity Recognition Using Smartphone Sensors

    In day-to-day existence, people act on many tasks. It is vital to record and analyze the daily presence of individual people. Hence it could assist with relieving a few medical conditions and different issues. Human Activity Recognizing is a key component of research topics in computer vision for different sectors like security monitoring, healthcare and human-computer association, and sports. Nowadays, the smartphone has become popular and helpful for people. Because smartphone has many various and effective sensors, in this paper, we have used smartphone sensors: an accelerometer and gyroscope to detect human activity. In our research, we collected 30 study participants labeled datasets between ages nine-teen to four-ty-eight (19-48) years who have executed actions such as activities of daily life including sitting, walking, standing, walking up or down stairs, and lying down while using a smartphone equipped with such sensors. The objective is to do each of the six activities in the correct order. Two sets of the recorded dataset were randomly chosen, with 70% of participants 30% chosen to produce test data, and the remaining 70% to produce training data. The results were gained along with compared by supervised classification algorithms such as Random Forest, decision trees, KNN method, Support vector machines, and Logistic Regression. By comparing those algorithms, we gained the best results accuracy from Logistic Regression which is 96.21%. © 2023 IEEE.

    Image Based Automatic Dress Measurement

    This report writes on image-based project name “Image Based Automatic Dress Measurement System”. In this project we developed body measurement without any direct contact of anyone and only by using his/her full body image, we can measure the measurements that a tailor measure for making a dress. This project will helpful for especially female who feels uncomfortable for measuring their body in front of tailor. This process of measurement is very easy and also time consuming. It takes only 7-8 sec whereas the manual measurement had taken 3-5 minutes for subjects. The images of the body were captured using any camera then that image was fed to computer, then by uploading the picture in this project we will get the accurate measurement of shoulders, arms, chest, leg, waist and wrist sizes to make a dress. We develop this project by using machine learning and computer vision technology. The anthropometric data of the body covered by luminance color ribbons, it can quickly measure by the system.

In purpose to decline the risk of this virus, natural growing color varieties vegetable consumption and reject the refrigerated fat consisting of food along meet with expire periods. As excessive intake of vitamin C cause excretory system failure, good and certain of it from cultivated (lemons, tomato, etc.) or artificial sources consumption can improve the immune system against this pandemic and different respiratory problem. Lacking Inhibiting or the presence of vitamin D is certainly a major characteristic in COVID-19 individuals, in taking vitamin D (oily fish, beef liver, etc.) could help resist from its own deficiency and another related malady. Avoiding foods from outside (such as fast foods, msg., and beverages) and increasing the consumption of homemade natural food on daily basis will fill the portion against the risk of this global pandemic. In case of maintaining health service issues, provision of certain rules, inhibition of nutrient rich constituents or particles, and maintaining social distance (6-feet separated) will stop the widespread of this pandemic. Declining the provoke of the global food crisis one should preside in maintaining the nutrition and nourishment across the globe, with extreme results for health and substance.

    Influential Factors On Prescription: a Cross Sectional Study From Bangladesh: Focus On Pharmaceutical Marketing

    A physician’s decision to adopt a drug is influenced by their exposure to other physicians’ attitude, knowledge, or behavior. Quality of drug, efficacy of drug, pricing, status of the pharmaceutical company etc. more or less influence the physician to choose medication for patients. Pharmaceutical marketing is strongstrategy to impact on prescription behavior. Because it is quite different from general marketing as the decision makers are the physicians not the patients, thus maximum marketing strategies are designed on focusing to them. This study explores the influence of pharmaceutical marketing on the prescription practices of physicians in Bangladesh. A self-administered questionnaire was applied to collect data from 500 physicians all over the country. The main theme of the study is to develop a framework to find out the impact of different kinds of promotional tools offered by pharmaceutical companies on the prescription of physicians. In this study it was found that prescription behavior of a physician greatly influenced by pharmaceutical marketing. Skillful presentation, up to date information, maintaining good relation and free gift sample can boost up the brand in physicians prescription.     Investigation of Pathological Affections of Lung in Slaughtered animal at Firingibazar Slaughterhouse, Chittagong

    From january to may 2012 twenty eight (28) visits were given to firingibazar slaughterhouse of chittagong metropolitan to examine the incidence of pathological affections in lung in slaughtered animal carcass. The total number of examined animal was 882, among them 660 cattle and 222 buffalo. Overall 128 (14.51%) carcasses showed pathological affections in lung. Comparatively more affections were recorded in april-may than the previous months. The incidence of lung affections was relatively high in cattle (15.90 %) than that of buffalo (10.36 %). Selected lung samples (n=128) with pathological affections were collected, gross tissue changes were recorded and fixed at 10% neutral buffered formalin for histopathological study. From gross and microscopic examination hydatid cysts (53.90%) was the most commonly found pathological affections followed emphysema (30.23%), atelectasis (12.50%), pulmonary hemorrhage (12.50%), congestion (7.03%), nodular lesions (3.12 %) and abscess (0.78%). Intermixing with several lesions was found in many cases. Statistically significant variation found in the occurrence of different lung lesions of cattle and buffalo. Hydatid cyst found more frequently among the lung lesions of cattle, whereas the occurrence of pulmonary nodules and hemorrhages was comparatively higher in buffalo lung.

    Investigation of the Concrete-Filled Tube (CFT) and RCC Column Effect on Building in Seismic Zones-2 in ETABS

    In today's environment, CFT columns are a common feature in modern multi-story construction all over the world. These RCC and CFT columns are added to the structure to allow it to be used for both commercial and residential purposes, and they begin at the story level where the building is intended to be used as a dwelling. The influence of wind and seismic displacement at different column sizes in the considered plan, as well as the effect of wind and earthquake speed maximum story displacement on concrete-filled tube (CFT) column and RCC column frame structure for G+8 story in zones 2 in Bangladesh, were investigated in this study. That after the success of past researchers on bond cement-filled cylinders (CFT) with the round segments, this study discusses the trial findings on the square CFT column and RCC column. In today's era of growth, multi-story structures using concrete-filled tube (CFT) columns play a major role in commercial construction. Several cases were created and analyzed using the FE package ETABS in this study. After analysis, the results were consolidated and compared with xiii| P a g e ©Daffodil International University the code's specified limit, and it showed a better result in the CC12 case specifically. This study also discovered that reinforced columns perform worse under seismic and wind forces than CFT columns. Finally, the CFT column requires less area than conventional reinforced columns and also shows better behavior in horizontal force conditions. For buildings with more than six stories, CFT columns are recommended for better performance.

    Deep constitutional neural network is a diverting area where research researches and achievement are taking geometrical progress in the agriculture field. Various researches are going on vigorously in plant diseases detection. Plant contribution is highly important for human life and environment. Plants also suffer from diseases as human and animals. There are many plant diseases that occurs and affected natural growth of plant. These diseases infected complete plants including leaf, stem, root, fruit and flowers. This research propose is a diseases detection and classification technique with the help of Deep learning convolution neural network. The latest generation of constitutional neural networks (CNN's) has gained magnificent results in the field of image classification. This research is related with a new approach to the development of plant disease detection model, based on leaf image classification, by using deep constitutional neural networks (DCNN). All essential steps required for implementing this disease detection model is fully discussed throughout the report, starting from collecting images in order to generate a dataset, evaluated by agricultural experts. This research is mainly focused how to detect jute plant leaves diseases using training and testing data using Deep learning convolution neural network (DCNN), stable and data set.

    Our project title “KRISHI-BONDHU: A WEB-BASED SYSTEM FOR FARMERS” is an agriculture-based project which is for farmers. In our system, a farmer can get easily all the information about the current market price of the crops by simple clicks. This helps will betray no farmer betrayed by anyone. A farmer can easily get information about future weather on our website. The most interesting thing is easy to communicate with the nearest agricultural officer via our system. In our system, if a farmer wants then he/she can capture a crop picture and send it to the agriculture officer with detailed information to seeking help. A farmer can easily track the agriculture office location by this application with the desired direction with help of google maps. By the application, a farmer can get always, notify about all the updated crops information.

    We will discuss about the line wise Linking, Trimming and Mending target of three design and two buyer sweater production in kint industry. The now -a-days textile field becomes very competitive. For making Garments, sweater linking,trimming, mending is very important. Because of, By According to the sweater linking, trimming, mending should produce to make a garments. The quantity of sweater which is required in line wise linking, trimming,mending to produce. A successful attempt was made to my project when I decided to do everything for a comparative analysis for the production of Line wise linking, trimming, mending sweater. All the basic things man, machin and material setup, production time, lost time, machine type, style , Linking type, textile or other sectors of course something must be wrong or he can not achieve the goal. So, to maintain a valuable time, we have to follow a real path that will be effective for some development. In this report, we showed flow charts for line wise sweater linking, trimming,mending process. we hope this project will be helpful in comparing to fashion able sweater production. In Linking, Trimming and Mending section Average Efficiency 82%, Average 304 Lost Hours, Average 1437 Earned Hours and Average 96.77 Productivity.
