Item A Comprehensive Study on Reinforced Concrete Building at Different Seismic Zones In Bangladesh(Daffodil International University, 2025-07-24) Rayhan, Md.; Mondol, Md. AmirulThis thesis examines the seismic performance and cost implications of a low-rise garment factory (150 x 72 ft, 79 ft tall) across all four seismic zones defined by BNBC-2020, using ETABS-21 for structural analysis. In the absence of shear walls, Zone 4 demonstrates the highest seismic vulnerability, with a maximum storey displacement of 3.5 inches at the rooftop and a peak drift of 0.015hx between the second and third floors. These results underscore the necessity for high-strength steel (compressive strength >40 MPa, tensile strength >60 ksi) and flexible or hybrid structural systems to ensure stability and safety in this high-risk zone. For Zones 1–3, a 1.5–2.5% reinforcement rate is adequate to maintain structural integrity, assuming stable interest rates. The analysis indicates that base shear values from ETABS-21 are 5–15% lower than those derived from BNBC-2020, highlighting the need for additional verification to meet safety standards. In Zone 2, elevated rebar demand promotes the use of larger columns (16" x 16"), which can reduce material costs by up to 15%, enhancing cost efficiency. The study emphasizes the unique seismic challenges faced by Bangladesh’s garment industry, a vital economic pillar, necessitating advanced construction techniques and modern earthquake- resistant technologies. By integrating high-strength materials and optimized structural designs, the research advocates for safer, more cost-effective, and sustainable building practices. These findings are critical for ensuring the durability and resilience of industrial structures in seismically active regions while complying with BNBC-2020 standards. The thesis strongly supports zone-specific design strategies to address varying seismic risks, promoting innovative engineering solutions that balance safety, efficiency, and sustainability. This approach is essential for supporting Bangladesh’s infrastructure development and economic stability, particularly in the garment sector, which faces significant environmental challenges. SharifA newly developed transportation technique is applied here in order to determine the maximum profit of a manufacturer company. At the very beginning of the main operation we determine a table called Total Opportunity Table (TOT) that makes the total procedure easier. Then we calculate the Distribution Indicators (DI) from the difference of the biggest and the smallest Unit Profit of each row and each column of the TOT. We locate the basic cells as the biggest entry of the TOT along the biggest DI. Finally, allocations are made in the cells of Transportation Table (TT) corresponding to the basic cells of the TOT. The technique is justified with numerical example for its efficiency.Item Dynamic reallocation based window access scheme for enhancing QOS of vehicular ADHOC networks(Institute of Information and Communication Technology, 2019-03-24) Islam, Md. Amirul; Mustafa, Dr. Hossen AsifuVehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) technology has now been established as a reliable network that provides communication between vehicles aiming to provide efficient and safe transportation. The applications devised for VANETs can be divided into the following three service categories: Safety Services, Traffic Management and User-Oriented Services. Among these services, safety services usually require bounded transmission delays as well as low access delays. For this reason, an efficient transmission slot management is very crucial for medium access control (MAC) protocols in VANETs. Additionally, VANETs, which have very dynamic topology, are very much prone to allocating a time slot in overlapping areas. In this case, two types of collisions may occur: access collision between vehicles trying to access the same available time slots, and merging collisions between vehicles using the same time slots. In this thesis, three new TDMA based MAC protocols are presented for V2I (Vehicle-to-Infrastructure) communication, to ensure fairness and reusability of TDMA slots in the control channel (CCH) of road traffic networks. By maintaining a balanced waiting time, the proposed TDMA based scheduling protocols allocate CCH's TDMA slots to the vehicles uniformly and continuously monitor the network for free slots. Presented protocols ensure reusability of free slots by using “capture effect” and “time slot reassignment” mechanisms. The proposed scheme uses strategies to avoid one-hop neighboring collision for boundary vehicles and to minimize merging collision for vehicles that will be passing over a RSU's broadcasting area and entering another RSU’s broadcasting area in the middle of a frame. These protocols also improved quality of service (QoS) of CCH traffic. We have ensured fairness on slot distribution by providing each vehicle almost equal number of slots in initial distribution and by providing balanced waiting time for participating vehicles. As all the data on control channel have unique priorities, we have proved QoS enhancement by comparing results using parameters such as throughput, average delay, data loss ratio and number of collisions. We have verified our proposed protocols by simulation in OMNeT++. Simulation results show that the proposed protocols outperform the conventional systems in terms of successfully transmitted data packets, throughput, average delay, data loss ratio and number of collisions.Item IoT-Based Robot with Wireless and Voice Recognition Mode(Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing, Springer, 2018-09-02) Islam, Md. This paper proposes a system where a robot can be controlled in different ways like voice, wireless, and full automatic mode. The prototype was built and tested. The robot prototype will be able to receive voice commands from short distance. AmirulRetirement is the final stage of a service holder. According to the theories of the gerontology, retired persons face various socio-economic problems which may affect them mentally and physically. With development of science, health care facilities, discovery of life saving drugs, technological improvement and above all increase in life expectancy, the number of elderly people is increasing in Bangladesh, like other countries of the world. The numbers of retired persons are also increasing proportionately day by day. The retired persons are the most sensitive segment of our total population. They are creating two dimensional problems. Firstly, they are problem for themselves then they are problem for their family and society. Retirement ages are not gender sensitive in Bangladesh. The major purpose of the study was to analyze the socio-economic condition, health and family relations of the retired government employees in Bangladesh. The key research question which the study explored to answer was: What are the socio-economic condition, health and family relations of the retired government employees in Bangladesh? The study has been conducted in Dhaka and it focused on the retired government employees living in Dhaka City. Socioeconomic and health data about the retired government employees have been gathered through a questionnaire survey. In this study 402 retired government employees have been selected on the basis of information about retirement and related matters. Retirement introduces a set of new problems in the life of a retired person that s/he has never faced earlier. After retirement a retired person’s position and role changes not only in the family but also in the community and society. Social, economic and demographic developments have all caused changes at the individual, family and social levels, all of which influence the lives of retired government employees in Bangladesh. The main sources of income of the retired government employees are mainly from house rent, remittance, interest from savings certificate, business and service, respectively. In some cases, their adult sons and daughters contribute economically in the family. The main items of expenditure are food and residence, Medicare/treatment, transportation and others. About 75% of retired government employees do not surrender the whole pension. They are economically self-sufficient compared to retired government employees who surrendered pension fully. Due to lack of opportunity, in old age and other health problems, they cannot engage themselves in income generating activities. About 32% of them are engaged in some income generating activities. Moreover, class-I employees are more engaged in income generating activities than other classes of employees. Majority of the retired government employees are engaged in business followed by service and teaching. It is interesting to note that more than 67% of the retired government employees live in their own houses and others live with sons, daughters or other houses. The study found that the staff level retired government employees’ average monthly incomes were less than average monthly incomes of officer level retired government employees in Bangladesh. Some of the retired government employees are engaged in part-time jobs and some are engaged in other jobs. In Bangladesh, very few female retired government employees are engaged in any home management activity but this does not mean that they do not work. Their work may not be considered as economic activities since they mostly engage themselves in household works. It is mentionable that incomes of retired government employees usually decrease after their retirement, which also reduces their social status and power. It was observed that a considerable amount of money was spent for the households by the retired government employees in each month. They do not want to be dependent on their relatives for economic help. But overall, they were mentally very strong and they showed positive attitude toward the life. In this study, it has been observed that the retired government employees have been suffering from many chronic ailments and acute diseases. Of various diseases from which the retired government employees were suffering from, three major diseases such as diabetes (59.1%), decay of bones (33.5%) and ulcer (31.1%) were noticeable. Other common diseases were pneumonia, high blood pressure, kidney disease, eye disease, etc. It is interesting to note that the ailing retired government employees generally depend on private health care facilities for their treatment.
