A Comprehensive Discussion in Vaginal Cancer Based on Mechanisms, Treatments, Risk Factors and Prevention
(Daffodil International University, 2022-07-18) Baral, Sumit Kumar; Biswas, Partha; Kaium, Md. Abu; Islam, Md. Aminul; Dey, Dipta; Saber, Md Al; Rahaman, Tanjim Ishraq; A. M.; Emran, Talha Bin; Hasan, Md. Nazmul; Jeong, Mi-Kyung; Han, Ihn; Rahman, Md. Ataur; Kim, Bonglee
Vaginal cancer is a rare and uncommon disease that is rarely discussed. Although vaginal cancer traditionally occurs in older postmenopausal women, the incidence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced cancers is increasing in younger women. Cervical cancer cells contain high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) E6 and E7 proteins and inhibiting HPV gene expression leads the cells to stop proliferating and enter senescence. As E6, and E7 protein promoted the carcinogenesis mechanism, and here not only regulate the cellular degradation of P53, and pRb but also enhances the cell proliferation along with E6 protein targets the p53 for breakdown and subsequently promote the apoptotic cell death, and DNA repair inhibition, that is indispensable to the continue the lifecycle of the HPV. As a synchronous or metachronous tumor, vaginal cancer is frequently found in combination with cervical cancer. It is uncertain what causes invasive female vaginal organ cancer. HPV type 16 is the most often isolated HPV type in female vaginal organ cancers. Due to cancer’s rarity, case studies have provided the majority of etiologic findings. Many findings demonstrate that ring pessaries, chronic vaginitis, sexual behavior, birth trauma, obesity, vaginal chemical exposure, and viruses are all risk factors. Because of insufficient understanding and disease findings, we are trying to find the disease’s mechanism with the available data. We also address different risk factors, therapy at various stages, diagnosis, and management of vaginal cancer in this review.

An efficient approach for recyclable waste detection and classification using image processing techniques
(BRAC University, 2023-01) Chowdhury, Prabal Kumar; Islam, Md. Aminul; Haque, Md Aminul; Alam, Md. Ashraful
One of the world’s most pressing issues right now is the lack of a competent waste management system, particularly in emerging and underdeveloped countries. Re cycling solid waste, which comprises numerous dangerous non-biodegradable sub stances like glass, metals, plastics, etc., is the most essential step in reducing waste related issues in the environment. Typically, collected waste includes all types of waste that must be thoroughly sorted to recycle efficiently. Most countries use man ual waste sorting techniques, which are efficient. Nevertheless, the waste sorting process by human being is not safe as there is always a risk of exposing them selves to toxic wastes, which could be serious for their health. Our thesis presents a Deep Learning technique based on computer vision for automatically identifying waste. To construct the model, we used Convolutional Neural Networks, real-time object detection systems, such as YOLOv5 and YOLOv7, as well as several trans fer learning-based architectures, including VGG16, MobileNet, Inception-Resnet-v2. The model is trained on numerous images for each type of waste to ensure no overfit ting and greater accuracy. The highest accuracy we achieved for our waste detection model YOLOv5x is 93.7%.

(BRAC University, 2015-04) Islam, Md. Aminul
The risks in the public procurement simply means the events that make the procurement process jeopardized and or the benefits of the public procurement are not achieved adhering to true to the processes of activities as stated in the Government’s Procurement Legal Framework/ Policy. In Bangladesh country perspective the public procurement risks originated from the activities not properly maintained by the Procurement Entities (PE) as stated in the PPA, 2006, the Government’s Procurement Legal Framework for public procurement. Some potential risks may occur in the public procurement activities either from the activities of corruption or Fraudulent or Collusive and Coercion (CFCC) practices by the involved parties and or socioeconomic or sociopolitical conditions. There are many risks involved in every steps of the public procurement process as the whole nation has stake with it. The PPA, 2006 has included many of the tools as the strategic risk mitigation tools to mitigate the risks may arise in the implementation stages of the public procurement process by the PE’s operational activities. DPE’s operational activities of the procurement processes were evaluated in comparison to the strategic risk mitigation tools mentioned in the PPA, 2006 in the current study. A number of unwanted incidents which make paralyzed the public procurement process of DPE were evaluated in this research. Based on the PPA, 2006 and PPR, 2008 provisions which mitigate risks in the public procurement process were evaluated and recommended some activities which were the essence of the risk free procurement process for DPE, Development Partners and the government. DPE, being one of the largest government organizations in Bangladesh, has to procure different types of goods and services from national and international markets both from the suppliers and consulting firms. DPE has to follow the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and the Public Procurement Rules, 2008 for procurements using GoB fund. DPE also follow PPA, 2006 and PPR, 2008 for the different stages of procurement process which are not mentioned in the Development Partners (DPs) Procurement Guidelines. But after conducting this study it was found that there is room for DPE to improve the procurement process compliance with all of the procurement Guidelines which were recommended from this study. Possessing the necessary logistics for transforming the procurement processes from the current manual systems to the worldwide accepted electronic system, DPE should adopt e-GP for all its procurement processes. By transforming from the manual systems to the e-GP, DPE can ensure more transparency and efficiency in procurement process with the risks from Corruption, Fraudulent, Coercion and Collusive practices at a minimum level. DPE was strongly recommended from the current study to adopt e-GP with some other recommendations for operational compliance with the strategic risk mitigation tools mentioned in the PPA, 2006.

Bangla Character Recognition using Artificial Neural Network Step:Classifier Design
(Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Military Institute of Science and Technology, 2013-12) Kabir, Kazi Lutful; Kabir, Md. Rayhan; Islam, Md. Aminul
Character recognition is a very popular research field since 1950’s. A great deal of research work has been done for various languages specifically in case of English. The recognition of optical characters is known to be one of the earliest applications of Artificial Neural Networks. The use of artificial neural network simplifies development of an optical character recognition application, while achieving highest quality of recognition and good performance. Although Bangla is one of the most widely spoken languages (over 200 million people use Bangla as their medium of Communication) of the world, research is acute in recognition of Bangla characters. Under this context, an effort has been taken globally to computerize the Bangla language. Compared to English and other language scripts, one of the major stumbling blocks in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) of Bangla script is the large number of complex shaped character classes of Bangla alphabet. In addition to 50 basic character classes, there are nearly 160 complex shaped compound character classes in Bangla alphabet. Dealing with such a large variety of characters with a suitably designed feature set is a challenging problem. Uncertainty and imprecision is inherent in handwritten script. Moreover, such a large variety of complex shaped characters, some of which have close resemblance, makes the problem of OCR of Bangla characters more difficult. Considering the complexity of the problem, this research makes an attempt to develop a method for the recognition of Bangla characters using the artificial neural network. Pre-processing steps involves segmentation and binarization. Features are taken using different feature extraction procedures. Multilayered neural network is used in the spirit of back-propagation algorithm for classification as well as recognition of characters. To deal with immense variation and magnificent diversity of Bangla characters, this effort have widened the area for many research works to come to light and to bid fair to be accomplished.

Bangladeshi origin people living in the United kingdom: perceptions towards Bangladesh in terms of visits, remittances and investment
(University of Dhaka, 2015-01-21) Islam, Md. Aminul
The purpose of this study is to know the perceptions of Bangladeshi origin people living in the United Kingdom permanently towards Bangladesh in terms of visits, remittances and investment along with their future plan for keeping connection with Bangladesh. The economy of Bangladesh mainly depends on agriculture, remittances of worker working abroad and exportations of various goods like tea, jute and jute made handicrafts, sea food, ready-made garments etc. The reserve of foreign currency in the country is highly dependent on remittances of Bangladeshi emigrants working in different countries which also alleviate poverty in the country as well. The foreign currency reserve is crucially important for balance of payments for international trade in the country. The export sector alone is not sufficient for the expected reserve of foreign currency of the country but in fact, the major part of foreign currency is presently coming from the export sector only. The poverty in the country is growing very fast resulting in high growth rate in unemployment. At the household level, remittance eliminates poverty through reducing high growth rate of unemployment. The remittance is highly needed for a sustainable economy in Bangladesh for alleviation of poverty and to increase the volume of foreign currency reserve. The amount of remittances from different countries to Bangladesh more or less is appreciable but the remittance from the UK is much less than the expectation. Because the Bangladeshi origin people living in the UK are loosing interest to Bangladesh generation by generation which is natural phenomena, many of them are shifting to other different countries for economic recession in the UK. Given the prevailing conditions, there is an urgent need to increase the volume of remittances coming from the UK for economic emancipation of the country. With a view to increasing the volume of remittances from Bangladeshi emigrants working in different countries the government of Bangladesh has formulated and undertaken some favorable policies and programs for emigrants especially for the business and banking sectors. But the expected target of receiving remittances from Bangladeshi emigrants in the UK is yet to be achieved. The study discusses the background of the Bangladeshi origin people living in the UK permanently. Following that, the study elaborately presents the causes of low frequency of visits, low volume of remittances and low trend in investment in Bangladesh along with the present and future plan for relationship between Bangladeshi origin people living in the UK and Bangladesh. The core issues that have been covered are: (i) historical perspectives of reasons and process of migration of Bangladeshi people to the UK along with their facts & figures (ii) the obstacles that hinder frequent visits to Bangladesh (iii) the underlying causes of receiving low remittances and low trend in investment and (iv) their plan for future connection with Bangladesh. From the study it was found that the overall perceptions of the Bangladeshi people living in the UK especially towards people’s behavior, hospitality etc in Bangladesh deserve to be appreciated. However, the interaction between Bangladeshi origin people in the UK and Bangladesh are deteriorating generation to generation which primarily originates from demographic background, staying in different society for long period and very minimum level of social connection with Bangladesh. Furthermore, the study has found that there have been sufficient positive views among the Bangladeshi origin people in the UK towards Bangladesh. It has been clear that to receive the expected amount of remittances from the Bangladeshi origin people in the UK to Bangladesh needs close interaction with them. Frequent interaction can be established through ensured safe and secured visiting environment in Bangladesh for them that will certainly up-grade volume of investment by them simultaneously. The study found that Bangladeshi origin people in the UK are willing to keeping good connection with Bangladesh in future. It is recommended that the government of Bangladesh should understand the concerns of Bangladeshi people living in the UK towards Bangladesh. The concerns of the people could be intervened through taking initiatives by the second generation living in the UK and by the NGOs, government and semi-government organizations in Bangladesh. The findings of our study suggest that the mutual beneficial relationships can be established for long through undertaking persistent policies to be implemented by the government of Bangladesh.

Co-Movement, Portfolio Diversification, Investors’ Behavior and Psychology
(Daffodil International University, 2022-07-22) Sahabuddin, Mohammad; Islam, Md. Aminul; Tabash, Mosab I.; Anagreh, Suhaib; Akter, Rozina; Rahman, Md. Mizanur
The issue of co-movements is still crucial and arguable in international finance. An optimum and significant level of co-movement is highly desirable to investors, and it mostly depends on investors’ decisions (behavior and psychology). We use frequency–time bands and multi-scale-based wavelet analysis to investigate the co-movement between developed and emerging countries’ stock markets for better asset allocation and portfolio diversification strategies. The results show that a significant level of co-movement is observed between conventional and Islamic stock markets in developed and emerging countries, and it varies in terms of its time–frequency domain properties. Particularly, the dependency among conventional and Islamic stock markets is strong at 4–512-band scales. However, the USA Islamic stock market illustrates a higher level of coherency with the UK, Japan and China’s Islamic stock markets, while a relatively lower level of co-movement is detected with the Chinese composite, Malaysian and Indonesian Islamic stock markets. The findings further confirm that the developed countries’ stock markets are substantially influenced by the GFC in 2007–2008 and the European debt crisis in 2012, while this trend is surprisingly not observed in the emerging markets on a similar scale. Therefore, these crises have opened the door for the grabbing of portfolio diversification benefits from the emerging countries’ stock markets. These findings give some interesting insights to policymakers, investors and fund managers for portfolio diversification and risk management strategies.

Effect of Non-Uniform Soiling on Solar Panel Output and Revenue Analyzed Through a Controlled Experiment by Using a Designed I-V Scanner
(Research and Development Wing, MIST, 2022-06) Islam, Mohammad Didarul; Islam, Md. Aminul; Khan, M. Ryyan
Non-uniform soiling drastically decreases the power generation of PV panels. Different events are responsible for the non-uniform soiling on PV panels for example bird droppings, sand storms, or snowfall. In this study, we have achieved multiple-goals for analyzing the effect of non-uniform soiling on a PV module output. We also analyzed the revenue losses due to the non-uniform soiling in a PV power plant. Firstly, for observing the effect of non-uniform soiling an I-V scanner has been designed. Secondly, the designed I-V scanner has been used to observe the changes in the I-V characteristics curve of PV panels due to non-uniform soiling and shading conditions. In this study, we have conducted various controlled experiments by providing different shading conditions on the PV panel and observing the I-V curve changes. A correlation has been done with the various shadowing conditions like the bottom edge soiling condition of PV panels or bird-dropping. In a PV power plant, nonuniform soiling may occur at the edge of PV panels after cleaning intervention. Considering these scenarios, we have done an economic analysis for determining the effect of non-uniform soiling on the revenue of PV power plants. Finally, the relations between the cleaning cycle, performance loss factor, and solar cell area coverage with respect to revenue have been also discussed in this article.

(International Islamic University Chittagong, 2024-02) Islam, Md. Aminul
Information about the whereabouts of oneself or our cell phones has always been crucial to humans. Technological advancements have supported us across various domains, spanning from interior environments to outdoor global positioning systems. However, achieving real-time indoor positioning has remained a formidable task. The requirement for enhanced positioning has gained prominence in the context of the emergence of 6G cellular networks. The introduction of novel radio technologies, characterized by reduced end-to-end latency, specialized control protocols, and increased processing capacity at the network edge, has opened doors to harnessing the 6G cellular network’s full potential for precise localization in indoor and outdoor settings. Within the 6G cellular network context, this study successfully implemented the classic signal fingerprinting approach using the Received Signal Strength Indicator in a combination with machine learning algorithms. Consequently, it proposed an improved positioning strategy designed for indoor localization scenarios in the next 6G cellular network environment. Using this method, with two datasets, the mean error distance of 0.08025523, meaning an accuracy of 99.92% and 0.10692412 was achieved, which is 99.89% accuracy respectively.

Evaluation of Antioxidant Activity and Determination of Total Phenolic Content of leaves extract of Heritiera littoralis (Sundari tree)
(Daffodil International University, 2017-11-16) Islam, Md. Aminul
The present study has been designed to examine the antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of the Leaves of Heritiera littoralis. Antioxidant activity was determined by using 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. In addition, total phenolic content was also determined. Total phenolic contents was expressed as gallic acid equivalent (GAE). The methanol extract showed moderate DPPH free radical scavenging activity with an IC50 value of 27.88 μg/ml compared to the positive control ascorbic acid with an IC50 value of 7.27 μg/ml. Besides, the phenolic content of the methanol extract was found to be 68.21 mg/g of dried extract (GAE). Therefore, it is anticipated that the large amount of phenolic typed compounds contained in the methanol extract played a strong role in antioxidant action of this extract. Therefore, Heritiera littoralis could be used as a source of naturally occurring potent antioxidants. However, it is very important to find out the specific chemical constituents responsible for potent antioxidant activity of Heritiera littoralis.
