    Theoretical physicist Sir John was the first to identify a practical way to create metamaterials, or materials engineered for specific applications. Spatial filter can be used to filter out the interfering bands. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has allocated the 3.1-10.6GHzfrequency band for unlicensed radio communication, offering a new opportunity in short-distance wireless communications. An absorbing boundary condition is applied to the propagation regions, and periodic boundary conditions are applied to reduce the computational domain. From the analysis it can be observed that both incident polarizations can generate a notched band.

    AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF BACTERIAL CONCRETE

    Concrete is the most used building material composed of cement, sand, stone and aggregate. Tiny micro-crack is the main reason to cause failure in concrete structure. A noble technique has been developed in recent years to remediate these cracks by incorporating special species (bacillus) of bacteria in concrete. These types of bacteria have the capability to secret calcite precipitation and eventually repair the cracks. This paper investigates the performances of bacterial concrete exposed to plain water. Concrete specimens of 100 mm cubical size were cast and cured for 120 days with and without using bacteria. Using spectrophotometer to determine optical density has always been a central technique in micro-biology. Concrete specimens having OD600 0.107, 0.20, 0.637 and 1.221 have been studied in plain water. The specimens were taken out periodically and subjected to compressive & tensile strength tests. From the investigation, it has been revealed that microbial concrete having OD600 0.637 shows better resistance against strength deterioration under all curing conditions and curing ages. Later on the concrete specimens were subjected to Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) tests. This study proposes the UPV and strength relationship curves for different microbial ratios used in concrete. From this test, it has been observed that specimens having OD600 0.637 shows better pulse velocity. The higher pulse velocity can therefore be used to assess the quality and uniformity of the concrete material.

    Comparative study of antihyperglycemic and antihypercholesteromic effect of aquous extract of Allium sativum (Garlic) and Zingiber officinale (Ginger) in alloxan induced rats

    The aim of this study was to compare the single and combined effect of Allium sativum (Garlic) and Zingiber officinale (Ginger) against hyperglycemia and hypercholsteremia in alloxan induced rats. A total of 300 rats were used for 5 trials. Among them 60 rats (12 normal rats and 48 alloxan induced diabetic rats) were used for each trail. In each trial rats were divided into 5 groups each containing 12 individuals as follows: Group A (Normal Control); Group B (Diabetic control); Group C (Alloxan + Garlic treated); Group D (Alloxan + Ginger treated) and Group E (Alloxan + Garlic + Ginger treated). After 18 hours of starvation, body weights, blood glucose level and blood cholesterol level were measured. Then alloxan were injected @ 100 mg/kg body weight intraperitonially to induce hyperglycemia as well as hypercholsteremia in groups B, C, D, and E. All groups were reared under normal condition from Day 1-10. To ensure the induction of hyperglycemia as well as hypercholsteremia on the day of 10 body weights, blood glucose and cholesterol level were measured. After that all groups were kept for more 21 days. During that period on Day 0, 7, 14, and 21 body weights, blood glucose as well as cholesterol level were measured by using commercially available biochemical kits. Aqueous extract of garlic and ginger were fed @ 500mg and 300mg/kg body weight daily for 21 days in groups C and D respectively and a combined dose (800mg/kg) were used for group E. The blood sugar level and blood cholesterol level were reduced in Group C from 154.5±3.98 to 120.35±4.21 and 209.11±5.24 to 126.66±6.58, respectively. In Group D the blood sugar level and blood cholesterol level were reduced from 155.5±2.99 to 123.12±4.23 and 213.43±6.21 to 128.76±6.98, respectively. But the reduction of blood sugar level and blood cholesterol level were more prominent in Group E from 156±4.11 to 110.21±3.98 and 218.12±6.34 to113.81±6.13, respectively. From the above observations it can be concluded that combined use of garlic and ginger is more effective to control hyperglycemia as well as hypercholsteremia compare to single dose.

    CULTURE SENSITIVITY PATTERNS OF BACTERIA ASSOCIATED WITH RESPIRA TORY ILLNESS IN HUMAN

    This study was designed to identify and determine in-vitro antibiotics sensitivity patterns of bacteria associated with respiratory illness of human. A total of 60 throat swab samples were aseptically collected from 3 age groups of 1-20 years (young), 21-40 years (adult) and 41-60 years (old). Isolated bacteria then subjected to determine their in-vitro antibiotic sensitivity patterns. From this study, it was observed that bacterial flora present in the throat swab of human with their percentage of distribution were Staphylococcus spp. (40.54%) of which Coagulase positive Staphylococcus (32.43%) and Coagulase negative Staphylococcus (8.11 %), Klebsiella spp. (24.325%), Pseudomonas spp. (18.92%), E. coli (8.11 %) and Bacillus spp. (8.11 %). Percentages of isolated bacteria in different age groups were 29.73% in young, 40.54% in adult and 29.73% in old. Among the isolates Coagulase positive Staphylococcus, Klebsiella and Pseudomonas were the predominant species. Percentages of Coagulase positive Staphylococcus spp. were high in age groups of 21-40 years (21.62%) whereas Klebsiella spp. were the predominant species of age groups of 1-20 years (10.81%) and 41-60 years (8.11%). Pseudomonas spp were the predominant species (8.11%) in age groups of 41-60 years. The isolated Coagulase positive Staphylococcus spp and Klebsiella spp were resistant 10 amoxicillin and ampicillin but sensitive to ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin and norfloxacin. Isolated Pseudomonas spp. showed resistant properties against amoxicillin, ampicillin petloxacin, gentamycin and furazolidone but sensitive to ciprofloxacin and nortloxacin.

    FACTORS INFLUENCING CLINICAL CASES OF CATS AT CENTRAL VETERINARY HOSPITAL (CVH), BANGLADESH

    Cats are becoming more common as pets in Bangladesh, yet they may get infected with various pathogens and can harbour zoonotic infections. This study aimed to look into the prevalence of clinical cases and management practice of pet cats at the Central Veterinary Hospital (CVH) in Bangladesh. From July to December of 2022, a six-month cross-sectional prospective study was conducted on 153 pet cats that were brought to the CVH. Clinical ailments were identified by the patient owners' complaints, disease histories, and clinical examinations. According to the survey, feline panleukopenia (FP) was the most prevalent clinical case in cats (30.06%), followed by accidental injuries (17.64%), dermatitis (15.03%), laminitis (11.76%), parasitic (8.49%), feline calicivirus infection (6.53%), myiasis (5.88%), and urolithiasis (4.57%). Cross-breed cats had the lowest incidence of clinical cases (7.84%), whereas local cats had the highest prevalence (38.56%). The age group of ">24 months" had the highest prevalence of clinical cases compared to others. Male and female cats had comparable rates of clinical cases (43.79% vs. 56.20%). Furthermore, the prevalence of FP was significantly higher in local cats, in cats of “6-24 months” of age, and female cats compared to others. About half of the pets did not receive an anthelmintic or vaccination. Local breeds had a significantly larger percentage of unvaccinated cats; however, parsian and exotic breeds had the opposite scenarios. The study's findings provide significant new information regarding the most prevalent clinical cases in cats and their vaccination and deworming status needed to keep cats from becoming sick.

    GENETIC AND NON-GENETIC FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH DISEASE PREVALENCE OF GOATS

    The purpose of the study was to ascertain the prevalence of diseases of the goats at the Central Veterinary Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The diseases were identified by laboratory results, clinical indicators, and complaints from the patients' owners. The risk factors of the disease prevalence were associated with breed, varieties or type, age, and sex of the animals. Overall disease prevalence of goats was found around PPR (40%), Pneumonia (11%), Mastitis (6%), Worm infestation (14%), Bloat (17%), Urolithiasis (8%) and Miscellaneous (4%). The prevalence was relatively higher in Black Bengal (56.92%), followed by Jamunapari (23.07%) and Jamunapari and Black Bengal crosses (20%). The study revealed that PPR prevalence was significantly (P<0.05) influenced by breed. Disease occurrence in morphological variant groups has no significant effect. The infection rate of goats was highly variable in 7-24 months of age (50.76%) followed by 0-6 months (27.69%) and over 24 months (21.53%). It was found that bloat disease has significant (P<0.05) effects on the age of the animals. Male goats have higher (7.69%) Urolithiasis cases compared to female goats. The results of this study is important to understand the prevalence of goat diseases in this region concerning different genetic and non-genetic risk factors which will facilitate the implementation of appropriate preventative measures against those diseases.

    INCIDENCE OF SURGICAL CASES AT MIRZAPUR UPAZILA IN TANGAIL DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

    This study was to determine the incidence of most common surgical cases in cattle, calves and goats at Mirzapur Upzilla Veterinary Hospital, Tangail during the period from January 2021 to December 2022. The total number of recorded cases were 900 (Cattle=328, Calves=472 and Goat=472) during the study period. The incidence rate of surgical affections in recorded is castration (23.77%), abscess (12.80%), wound (10.97%), fracture (9.76%), Navel ill (8.54%), Vaginal prolapsed (8.54%), Hernia (7.93%), Myiasis (6.71%), Atresia ani (5.49%), ovariohysterectomy (3.05%) and upward patellar fixation (2.44%). In calves, the rate was umbilical hernia (40%), umbilical abscess (15%), atresia ani(12%), naval myiasis and abscess (8%), intestinal prolapsed and fracture of jaw (2%). In small ruminants especially in goat the incidence rate was coenurosis (19.07%), subcutaneouscyst (13.98%), castration (13.56%), abscess (11.86%), fracture (8.90%), myiasis (8.47%), wound (6.36%), atresia ani (5.51%), urolithiasis (5.51%), hernia (4.24%) and ovariohysterectomy (2.54%). The incidence rate was higher in goat (52.5%) , cattle (36.4%) and in calves (11.1%) .Moreover, the incidence rate was higher in male compared with female. In addition, the incidence rate was higher in summer (36.2%) followed by rainy season (32.01%) and winter season (31.2%). Myiasis and arthritis were the most common cases in summer whereas urolithiasis was more common in winter. However, the study might be helpful to compare the incidence rate of surgical cases in other areas of Bangladesh and take necessary action to minimize the incidence of surgical cases.
