Item EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND SULPHUR ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF RAPESEED(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2016) ISLAM, RAFIQULA field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of nitrogen (N) and sulphur (S) on yield and yield components of rapeseed (BARI Sarisha-14) at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka-1207 during November, 2015 to February, 2016. The experiment was consisted of four levels of nitrogen viz., N 0 = 0 kg ha -1 (control), N 1 = 60 kg ha -1 , N 2 = 120 kg ha = 180 kg ha -1 ; and four levels of sulphur i.e., S 0 = 0 kg ha -1 (control), S = 15 kg ha -1 , S 2 = 30 kg ha -1 , S 3 = 45 kg ha -1 . Levels of N and S showed significant effect on yield and yield contributing characters of BARI Sarisha-14. Results showed that application of 120 kg N ha -1 with 45 kg S ha -1 gave the maximum yield. Results also revealed that the highest plant height, number of branches plant -1 , number of siliquae plant -1 , siliqua length, number of seeds siliqua , 1000-seed weight, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index were obtained from the combination of 120 kg N with 45 kg S ha -1 .Item EFFECT OF SOWING METHODS AND VARIETY ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF SESAME(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2017) ISLAM, RAFIQULThe experiment was conducted at the Agronomy farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during March to June 2017 to study the effect of sowing methods and variety on yield and yield components of sesame. The experiment comprised of four varieties viz. BARI til 2, BARI til 3, BARI til 4 and ii Lal til (local) designed V 1, and V 4 respectively combined with three sowing methods named Broadcasting, Line sowing and Line sowing on ridges designed M 1 , M 2 and M 3 . The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications. In terms of varietal performance, the highest dry weight plant -1 (27.35 g), number of capsules plant (47.89), number of seeds capsule -1 (62.34), seed weight plant -1 (8.10 g), 1000 seed weight (2.64 g), seed yield (1265.00 kg ha -1 ), stover yield (1601.33 kg ha ), oil yield (550.80 kg ha -1 ) and harvest index (44.06%) were achieved from BARI til 4. All the studied parameters were found lowest with Lal til (local). In case of sowing methods, line sowing showed the best performance on dry weight plant -1 (26.33 g), number of capsule plant -1 (42.94), number of seeds capsule -1 (56.39), seed weight plant (6.47 g), 1000 seed weight (2.55 g), seed yield (1103.70 kg ha -1 -1 -1 ), stover yield (1460.67 kg ha ), oil yield (480.32 kg ha -1 ) and harvest index (42.67%). Broadcasting method showed the lowest performance on the same parameters mentioned. On the other hand the interaction of the variety with sowing methods, the highest dry weight plant -1 (30.36 g), number of capsules plant -1 (56.33), number of seeds capsule -1 (67.67), seed weight plant (10.5 g), 1000 seed weight (2.75 g), seed yield (1368.00 kg ha -1 -1 ), stover yield (1635.00 kg ha ), oil yield (598.10 kg ha -1 ) and harvest index (45.56%) were found from treatment combination of V 3 M 2 where treatment combination of V 4 M 1 showed lowest results in most of the cases.Item SELECTION OF SHORT DURATION HIGH YIELDING AUS MATERIALS IN F4 GENERATION OF RICE (Oryza saliva L.) THROUGH AUS-AUS CROSS(SEED TECHNOLOGY, 2014) ISLAM, RAFIQULThe present study involved fifteen F4 populations of rice (Oryza saliva L.) with three check varieties to select short duration and high yielding Aus varieties. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications in the experimental farm of Sher-e-Barigla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka during April 2014 to July 2014. Variability, correlation and path coefficient were analyzed mainly on the basis of days to maturity, yield/plant and yield(tTha) but other eleven characters also studied as these traits directly or indirectly contribute on yield. The lowest days to maturity (96.33 days) was observed in G4 (BR 21 xBR 24, F4, S 2P3 ) following as 03 (BR 21 xBR 24. F 4. S2P2) (97 days) and 02 (BR 21 xBR 24, F 4 , S2P1) (97.67 days). The highest yield among F 4 populations was recorded in 08 (BR 24xBR 26, F 4, S5P1 ) (5.7 ton/ha) following by 03 (BR 21 xBR 24, F4, S 2P2 ) (4.57 ton/ha) and 04 (BR 21 xBR 24, F 4 , S2P3) (4.37 ton/ha). The characters were observed and concluded that the phenotypic variances were higher than the genotypic variances. Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was also higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation ((iCV) for all the characters studied. High heritability with high genetic advance in percent of mean was found for total number of tiller/plant, total number of effective tiller/plant, number of secondary branchcs/ particle, total number of spikeleti panicle, number of filled grainl panicle, yield/ plant, yield(IJ ha) and moderate heritability with high genetic advance found in days to maturity The significant positive correlation with yield/ hectare were found in days to 80% maturity, number of secondary branches/ panicle, total number of spikcletipanicle, number of filled grain/ panicle and yield/plant. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that days to 80% maturity, number of secondary branches/panicle, total number of spikcletipanicle, number of filled grainl panicle and yield/ plant had the positive significant direct effect on yield(t/ ha) and as these parameters were also good for variability, heritability and correlation so, they may be used for further crop improvement practices. By comparing check varieties with segregating populations some better genotypes as 02, 03, 04, 08 and some individual plants from different populations were selected as early maturity and high yielding Aus rice (Oryza saliva L) for future trial.
