Item CROP ESTABLISHMENT METHOD AND FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT FOR BORO RICE AFTER MUSTARD CROP(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2015-12) ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDUL; Professor Dr. Mohammad Ataur RahmanRecently effort is paid to fit mustard in between rice crops. This would increase rice productivity under reduced tillage system and lower amount of phosphorus and potassium requirement in rice mustard rice cropping system. For that a field experiment was carry out at the Nashipur, Dinajpur, besides wheat research center. Form 01 Feb 2014 to 06 June 2014 to study the optimum phosphorus and potassium application after mustard cultivation and the effect of tillage on crop production was conducted with two treatments in RCBD in 2014. The treatment of tillage included zero tillage, one puddling and conventional tillage and the treatment of fertilizer included all fertilization recommend by SRDI, all except less than 50% of phosphorus and all except less than 50% of Potassium. In the experiment, the number of tiller hill-1, filled grain panicle-1, grain yield, and straw yield and harvest index varied significantly due to tillage system and different fertilization. P1 (one puddling) produce maximum number of filled grain panicle-1 (85.46) and minimum in P0 (zero tillage) filled grain panicle1 (74.14), maximum number of tiller panicle-1 (21.83) in one puddling & lowest in conventional tillage (19.58). Highest yield obtain in one puddling (6.26 tha-1) followed by conventional tillage and lowest yield in zero tillage (5.168 tha-1). Yield maximum in F1 (6.155 tha-1) followed by all except 50% less than k in F3 (5.58 tha-1), lowest in F1 (all fertilization) 5.283 tha-1. In interaction, highest yield obtain in P1F2 (one puddling with all except 50% less than of phosphorus) (6.665 tha-1) and lowest in both P0F1 (zero tillage with all fertilization) (4.748 tha-1) and P2 F3 (Conventional tillage with all except 50% less than of potassium) (4.748 tha-1).Item Effect of different transplanting dates on the yield and yield components of Binadhan-14 (Oryza sativa L.) under climatic conditions in Bangladesh(Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), 2016) ISLAM, MD. MONJURUL; ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDUL; RAHMAN, MD. HABIBUR; SAHA, MAMATA; BIR, MD. SHAHIDUL HAQUE; SOHEL, MD. MEHEDI HASAN; LEE, JEUNG JOO; PARK, KEE WOONGBinadhan-14 (Oryza sativa L.) is a late transplanting rice variety with high yield potential, developed for boro season by BINA in 2013. Effects of different transplanting dates to yield of Binadhan-14 were assessed at three locations in Bangladesh during boro season in 2014-15. BRRI dhan 28 was used as a check variety. At each location, one month old seedlings were transplanted at five different dates with 15-day intervals between February 1 and April 1, 2015. A randomized complete block design with three replications was used to lay out plots in the experiment. Transplanting dates significantly influenced grain yield and yield contributing parameters, such as plant height, panicles per hill, panicle length and filled grains per panicle, except for 1000-grain weight. The highest grain yields were obtained when the rice was transplanted on February 1 and 15, 2015. The highest yield of Binadhan-14 was obtained at Rangpur (6.75 t/ha), followed by Mymensingh (6.25 t/ha) and Magura (5.90 t/ha). Results of this study suggest that February 1 to 15 would be the best time to transplant Binadhan-14 as a late transplanting boro variety under the climatic conditions in Bangladesh.Item Effect of different transplanting methods on yield of Binadhan-14 (Oryza sativa L.) at late boro season under climate change(Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), 2016) ISLAM, MD. MONJURUL; RAHMAN, MD. HABIBUR; ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDUL; SAHA, MAMATA; KAMRUZZAMAN, MD.; BIR, MD. SHAHIDUL HAQUE; ROH, SUG-WON; PARK, KEE WOONGTo find out the suitable planting method under climate change on the yield and yield attributes of late boro rice in Bangladesh, an experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) farms at boro season of 2014-15. Three different sowing methods viz., direct seeding with sprouting seed & without sprouting seed and transplanting were practised to evaluate Binadhan-14 along with one check BRRI dhan 28. Due to climate change, water level goes downwards, government wants to replace boro areas as late boro to minimize irrigation water and keep the water level constant. In this study, Binadhan-14 showed higher grain yield than BRRI dhan 28. Comparative effect of transplanting method, the highest grain yield was produced in transplanting method. Direct seeding was seven days earlier than transplanted rice. However, considering crop duration direct seeding with sprouting seed will be effective by sacrificing grain yield.Item EFFECT OF FUNGICIDE AND SALICYLIC ACID FOR CONTROLLING LEAF SPOT AND RUST DISEASES OF GROUNDNUT(DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY, 2009) ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDUL; ISLAM, MD. MONJURUL; RAHMAN, MD. HABIBUR; BIR, MD. SHAHIDUL HAQUE; LEE, JEUNG JOO; PARK, KEE WOONGA field experiment was conducted at the agronomy field of the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, Bangladesh, under wet land condition during December 2014 to May 2015. The aim was to see the effects of the weed control treatments on crop growth and yield in boro rice. Five selected herbicides (Metsulfuron-methyl 20 WG at 50 g/ha, pretilachlor 500 EC at 988 ml/ha, bensulfuran methyl 4%+acetachor 14% 18 WP at 800 g/ha, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 10 WP at 125 g/ha and butachlor 5G at 25 kg/ha) were tested along with two hand weedings. Population density, fresh and dry weight of weed were taken. Eight weed species belonging to five families, namely, Echinochloa colonum, Paspalums crobiculatum, Monochoria vaginalis, Leersia hexandra L., Scirpus mucronatus L., Digitaria sanguinalis, Cyperus rotundus and Eclipta alba Hassk were found to grow in the experimental plots. Among the weed control treatments highest grain yield (5.73 t/ha) was produced with the treatment pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 10 WP at 125 g/ha followed by two hand weedings (5.50 t/ha). The increased yield due to application of herbicide contributed mainly from increasing the number of total tillers per plant, effective tillers per plant, filled grains per panicle and 1000-seed weight (g). Maximum benefit : cost ratio with pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 10 WP at 125 g/ha suggested that this herbicidal treatment could be used as an alternative when labour was a limiting factor in producing transplant boro rice.Item ESTIMATION OF STANDARD HETEROSIS AND GRAIN QUALITY OF RICE HYBRIDS (Oryza saliva L) CULTIVATED IN BANGLADESH(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA, BANGLADESH, 2006-12) ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDULSix hybrids and two modem check varieties of rice (Oryw sa:iva L.) were evaluated to estimates standard heterosis of important yield contributing traits, to asses genetic variation among the grain characters, to study the grain appearance and milling quality and to determine cooking and eating characters of grain at the central research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Two hybrids (Sonarbangla-1 & ileera) had long slender grains, three (Richer. A loran & Jagoron) belonged to medium slender grains and one hybrid (BRRI hybrid dhanl) belonged to long bold. Superior cooking performance over BRRI dhan29 was observed in all the hybrids for length of cooked rice elongation, kernel elongation ratio, kernel elongation index and one hybrid for volume expansion. Superior cooking performance over BRRI dhan28 was observed in two hybrids for length of cooked rice elongation, volume expansion & kernel elongation index, all the hybrids for kernel elongation ratio, three hybrids for water uptake. Protein content ranged from 7.80 to 10.00. All hybrids showed translucent grains. Maximum hybrids showed intermediate GT and intermediate amylase content. Among the hybrids A loran gave highest yield (7.45 t/ha) and BRRI hybrid dhanl gave lowest yield (6.15 t/ha). All the hybrids were identified having acceptable grain quality but overall performance in relation to cooking and eating point of view Sonarbangla-1 and BRRI hybrid dhan I performed better.Item POST AI CONCEPTION RATE IN CATTLE AT CHAR AREA IN NAGESHWARI UPAZILA UNDER KURIGRAM DISTRICT(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2015-07) ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDUL; Md. Abdul HamidThe present study was conducted to determine the conception rate of cows/heifers artificially inseminated at different villages of Nageshwari Upazila, Kurigram. The study was carried out during the period from August 2013 to July 2015. One hundred and eighty four animals were inseminated using frozen semen. The cows were inseminated between 6-20hrs of onset of heat obtained from data (history) from the owner. A total of 184 cows/heifers of different breed, age, season, body weight and parity were selected and artificial insemination was performed by using frozen semen. The age and interval from caving to AI were recorded by interviewing the farmers and BCS, body weight of cows/heifers measured by eye estimation. Date of AI, bull on/name/breed and authority of used semen were recorded from the AI card given to the farmers by AI technicians. All cows/heifers were examined for pregnancy by rectal palpation of genital tract at 80-90 days post AI. One hundred and seven were inseminated 1 or 2 times and 77 animals for 3 and more services. Out of 184 animals 101 animals were conceived and 83 animals did not conceived. The overall conception rates were 54.9%. A significantly decreased conception rate (p<0.01) was observed in age group more than 8 years than other groups. Upon increasing age the service required for conception was irregular. The conception rate with respect to different parities ranged from 25% to 73%. Cows received insemination at parity 1 showed highest conception rate (73%) and cows received insemination at parity 6 showed lowest conception rate (25%). There was significant difference between them on conception rate (p<0.01). The overall and within group conception rate percentage in Local (52.9%) and Friesian cross (62.3%) cows/heifers were relatively higher than that of Sahiwal cross (40%). However the difference was not significant (p>0.05). The conception rate was observed significantly higher (78.9%) in the cows which were inseminated in spring than the cows were inseminated in summer (29.8%), winter (72.1%) and rainy (35.7%) season. The conception rate was significantly higher (p<0.01) in 1st and 2nd service compared with 3rd services (89.7% vs 6.5%). A proportion of cows, which failed to conceive in the first service repeated in second, third services and or more. More service is required for heifer than older animals. Further study is needed with large number of cattle population with proper AI recording system under veterinary herd fertility programme considering management and environmental variables.Item VARIABILITY AMONC ADVANCED LINES IN Brassica rapa L.(Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, 2013-06) ISLAM, MD. SHAHIDULA research was conducted by using twenty one (21) F0 populations derived from inter-varietal crosses of lirassica rapa L. and grown in the experimental irm of Sher-c-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka. during November 20!!- March 2012 to study the magnitude of variations in characters, heritability, genetic advance, character associations, direct and indirect efkct of different characters on seed yield. There were signilieant variations in number of primary branches per plant. number ot secondary branches per plant, number of silliqua per plant, days to 50% flowering, length of siliqua, number of seeds per siliqua. 1000 4 seed weight and yield per plant showed some differences between genotypic and phenotypie variances. Plant height. length of siliqua. number of silliqua per plant, days to 50% flowering showed low genotypic and phenotypie coefficient of variation. Plant height, number of primary branches per plant. number of secondary branches per plant and number of silliqua per plant showed high heritability coupled with high genetic advance and very high gene tic advance in percentage of mean. however. length of siliqua showed low heritability. Correlation study revealed that yield per plant had significant positive association with plant height, number of primary branches per plant. number of siliqua per plant, seeds per siliqua, and siliqua length (genotypic or phenotypie level). Path co-efficient analysis revealed that plant height. number of" primary branches per plant, number of siliqua per plant. seeds per siliqua, and siliqua length had the positive direct effect on yield per plant and days to 50% flowering, number of secondary branches per plant, and thousand seed weight had the negative direct effect on yield per plant. I3ased on the variability study, some F9 plants showed high heritability Ibr short duration and yield contributing characters were selected from some of the cross combinations of the intervarital crosses of Brassica rape: for further selection.
