Item EFFECT OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF BLACK POINTED SEED AND VERMICOMPOST ON LEAF BLIGHT (BIPOLARIS SOROKINIANA) SEVERITY, YIELD ATTRIBUTES AND SEED HEALTH STATUS OF WHEAT(DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY , SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA, 2015-06) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULAn experiment was conducted during the period from November 2013 to July 2014 to find out the effect of different levels of black pointed seed and vermicompost on leaf blight (Bipolaris sorokiniana) severity, yield attributes and seed health status of wheat, cv. Shatabdi. Field experiment was carried out in RCBD design with 18 treatments. In the field condition, significant variations were found considering number of seedlings/m2. The maximum (114.3 and 124.0) emergence of seedling was recorded in T7 and the minimum (89.0 and 100.0) was in T6 after 7 days and 15 days of sowing respectively. Leaf blight severity (0-5 scale) on flag leaf and penultimate leaf in flag leaf stage, panicle initiation stage, flowering stage, milking stage and hard dough stage were recorded minimum while applied treatment T7 (Vermicompost @ 1.5 ton/ha and apparently healthy seed treated with Provax 200 @ 0.25%). The maximum leaf blight severity was recorded while applied treatment T6 (without vermicompost and 25% black pointed seed in weight basis). The highest plant height (82.84 cm) and spike length (12.91cm) were recorded in T7. The treatments showed significant variations on number and weight of grains/ear of different severity grades (0-5) of harvested seeds. Significantly higher 1000 seeds weight (42.70g), grain yield (3.66 t/ha) and straw yield (4.33 t/ha) were recorded in T7. The lowest 1000 seeds weight (37.42g), grain yield (2.33 t/ha) and straw yield (3.05 t/ha) were recorded in T6. In respect of seed germination, significant variations were observed among the treatments. Remarkable reduction of the seed germination was recorded in seeds with the maximum black pointed seed in the treatment T6 (without vermicompost and 25% black pointed seed in weight basis). Germination percentage, normal seedling percentage and vigor index were the highest in T7 and the lowest in T6. The shoot length, root length, seedling weight and vigor index (VI) were decreased with the increasing levels of black pointed seed. The shoot length, root length, seedling weight were the highest in T7 and the lowest in T6.Item EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND SPACING ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF INDIAN SPINACH (Binella aTha L)(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2008) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULThe experiment was conducted at Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka, during the period of April 10 July 2007, to find out the optimum nitrogen level and spacing on growth and yield of Indian spinach. The experiment consisted of two factors, Factor A: Four levels of nitrogen viz. No: 0 kg N/ha, Nj: 100 kg N/ha, N,: 120 ke N/ha and N3 : 140 kg N/ha and factor B : Three levels of spacing viz. S j 60 cm 60 cm 30 cm and S.1: 60 cm x 40 cm. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design(RCBD) with three replications. In case of Nitrogen. N.1 performed maximum plant height (10499 cm), number of leaves (87.59). leaf area (369.32 cm), dry matter content/plant (1050%) and highest yield (22.55 t/ha) while the shortest plant height (81.91cm), number of leaves (54 78), leaf area (28 1.37 x 20 cm, c111 2). dry matter contcnt;plaitt (7.85%) and lowest yield (15.96 t/ha) was recorded from Nc,.For spacing. S2 performed maximum leaf area (356.24 cni2 ), dry matter content/plant (10.71%) and yield (23.62 t/ha) while the minimum number of leaves/plant (73.72). dry matter content/plant (8.84%) and lowest yield (16.99 t/ha) was recorded from S3 For combined effect the maximum plant height (107.22 cm), number of leaves (89.67), leaf area (387.25 cm). dry matter content/plant (12 09%) and highest yield (25.82 tiha) was obtained from N1S2 while N11S3 contributed the lowest yield (14.71 t/ha). The highest (2.65) benefit cost ratio was recorded from NS 2 and the lowest benefit cost ratio (1.25) was recorded from Nc.S 3 . So 140kg N/ha with 60 cm x 30 cm spacing can be used to obtain higher growth and yield of Indian Spinach.Item GENETIC VARIABILITY STUDIES OF SESAME (Sesamum indicum L.) GENOTYPES(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, 2022) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULA field experiment was conducted forty-three sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) genotypes at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period of March 2022 to August 2022 using Rrandomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications to study the genetic variability and interrelationship for various traits among the genotypes. The results revealed that there was a significant variation among the genotypes for the studied traits. The phenotypic variances were higher than the genotypic variances. High broad base heritability together with high genetic advance in percent of mean was observed for number of secondary branches per plant (90.06%), 1000-seed weight (99.31%) and seed yield per plant (97.89%) while moderate heritability for plant height (59.81%). The significant positive correlation with seed yield per plant was found for plant height (r g = 0.546, r p = 0.246), days to 50% flowering (r g = 0.587, r = 0.448), days to 80% maturity (r g = 0.615, r p = 0.321), number of primary branch (r = 0.344), number of capsules per plant (r g = 0.775, r = 0.275), number of seed per capsule (r g = 0.320, r p = 0.240), height of first capsule (r p g = 0.376, r = 0.254) and 1000-seed weight (r g = 0.377, r p p = 0.373). Path co-efficient analysis revealed that plant height (0.856), days to 80% maturity (0.227), number of primary branches per plant (0.467), number of secondary branches per plant (0.441), capsule length (0.258) and number of seeds per capsule (0.213) had the positive direct effect on yield per plant whereas, internode length (-0.799) followed by and number of capsules per plant (-0.370) and days to 50% flowering (-0.198) had the negative direct effect. Considering mean performance, heritability and correlation analysis, the sesame genotypes G6, G12 and G36 for seed yield per plant, and G26, G27 and G37 for early maturity could selected for further improvement.Item OPTIMIZATION OF NITROGEN REQUIREMENT FOR BROCCOLI (Brassica oleracea var. italic L.) FROM ORGANIC AND INORGANIC SOURCES(Department of Soil Science, 2009-12) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULAn experiment was conducted at the research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from October 2008 to February 2009 to find out the ideal integrated Nutrient Management (INM) treatment to maximize the yield of Broccoli. The field experiment had 12 treatments each I having three replications. The treatments were T, No fertilizer, T 2 : 0% N from farm yard manure (FYM) + 100% N from Urea (150kg N/ha), T 3 10% N from FYM +90%N from Urea. T 4 :20%N from FYM + 80% N from Urea, T from FYM +70%N from Urea, T6 :40%N from FYM +60%N from Urea, T7: 50%N from FYM +50%N from Urea, T g :60%N from FYM +40%N from Urea, T 9 : 70% N from FYM + 30% N from Urea, T 10 : 80% N from FYM + 20% N from Urea, T,, : 90%N from FYM+ 10%N from Urea and 112: 100% N from FYM (30 ton Cowdung/ha) + 0% N from Urea. Plant height at 20, 40 and 60 days after transplanting, no. of leaves, length & breadth of leaves, diameter and height of curd, diameter of curd & stem, plant canopy, weight of primary & secondary S curds and yield of broccoli were studied. The treatment combination T6 (400/oN from farm yard manure + 600 /oN from Urea) showed the maximum significant value of all the parameters studied. The highest yield of 17.18 tfha was obtained in the treatment T. From the economic point of view the treatment T (cowdung 12 ton/ha and urea 90 kg/ha) was found to be the most suitable. The treatment T 6 also had the highest nutrient concentration and nutrient uptake by broccoli. This treatment also favored significant increment of N, P and K of post harvest soil.Item PREVALENCE OF GASTROINTESTINAL NEMATODE AND COMPARATIVEEFFICACY OF ANTHELMINTICS IN GOAT AT SYLHET SADAR(Dept. Of Medicine, 2015-12) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULA survey of the prevalence of gastro-intestinal nematode infection in 150 goats was conducted in different area in Sylhet district during the period of July 2015 to December 2015. The overall prevalence of infections with nematodes in goat in Sylhet was 125/150 (82.66%). Of the 150 examined goats female goat was 97 and male goat was 53. In 150 goats yearling goat was 59.33% (≤2 years) and adult was 40.66% (>2 years). Gastrointestinal nematode infestation were found 80.41% in female (In which 84.61% in young and 75.55% in adult) and 86.79% in male (In which 89.18%in young and 81.25% in adult). All treated goat showed significant improvement & disappearance of most clinical signs and significant decrease of egg per gram (EPG) with complete or almost complete disappearance of eggs in 7th day and 14th day post treatment with albendazole (Endokil); levamisole (levavet) and fenbendazole (peraclair) respectively. Study surveys suggest, appropriate parasitic control approach be explored and tried in order to alleviate the problem of worm burden.Item STUDY ON MORPHO-PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND YIELD PERFORMANCE OF WHEAT GENOTYPES UNDER WATER LIMITED DROUGHT CONDITION(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2014-12) ISLAM, MD. NAZRUL; Professor Dr. Sripati SikderThe experiment was conducted at research field and laboratory in the Department of Crop Physiology and Ecology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the period of November 2013 to April 2014. It was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The treatment factors were A- Main plot treatments two growing conditions viz. i. well watered condition (giving three irrigations) and ii. water limited drought condition (giving one irrigation at 20 DAS for seedling establishment) and BSub plot treatments: six wheat genotypes viz. BAW 1170, BAW 1161, BAW 1163, BAW 1151, BARI Gom 26 and BAW 1135. To attain different phenologcal stages, the maximum number of days were required for BAW 1170, BAW 1161 and BAW 1163 followed by BAW 1151 and BARI Gom 26, whereas the minimum number of days were required for BAW 1135 under well watered and water limited drought condition. Higher leaf chlorophyll content and leaf proline content were also showed higher by drought tolerant wheat genotypes compared to other genotypes at both the well watered and water limited condition. At water limited drought condition wheat genotypes BAW 1170, BAW 1161 and BARI Gom 26 showed higher level of plant vi height, spike length, floret sipkelet-1, grains sipkelet-1, floret sipke-1, grains sipke-1, 1000 seed weight and lower the floret sterility than the genotypes BAW 1151, BAW 1163 and BAW 1135. BAW 1170 gave the highest grain yield (4.2 t ha-1) and BAW 1135 produced the lowest grain yield (2.8 t ha-1) at well watered condition. At water limited drought condition the highest grain yield was produced by BAW 1170 (3.5 t ha-1) and the lowest grain yield was produced by BAW 1135 (2.0 t ha-1). BAW 1170 and BAW 1135 showed the highest harvest index (40.00%). BARI Gom 26 showed the lowest harvest index (34.11%) under well watered condition. Whereas at water limited drought condition the highest harvest index was given by BARI Gom 26 (38.71%) and the lowest harvest index was showed by BAW 1163 (31.58). IN SELECTED AREA OF BANGLADESH(Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2011-12) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULGuava, the major fruit crops of Bangladesh, was surveyed during the period of July, 2010 to April, 2012. Three experiments were carried out to study the nursery diseases of guava and to observe the effect of temperature, relative humidity and rainfall on the occurrence of disease incidence and severity on seedlings. Important plant pathogens Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Pestalotiopsis spp., Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae were identified and the incidence and severity of anthracnose, scab and leaf blight of guava at seedling stage were studied. Significant variations in development of these diseases were observed in varied weather factors. Occurrence of seedling disease was correlated with temperature, rainfall and relative humidity. That is why there was great variation of disease incidence and severity of guava from one location to another as well as from one season to another season. These weather parameters should be critically addressed for each host-pathogen system to find out the most appropriate time to combat the disease at minimum effort.Item USE OF NEEM PRODUCTS FOR THE CONTROL OF JUTE YELLOW MITE, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) AND RED MITE, Tetranychus bioculatus (Wood—Mason)(Department of Entomology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, 2007-12) ISLAM, MD. NAZRULIn order to study the efficacy of different neem products for the control ofjute mites (yellow mite, Poivplzago:orsonernus lot its Banks and red mite. Tetronvclzus hioculatus Wood- Mason). and its effect on predators, several experiments were conducted at Iaboratoiy, greenhouse and in the field of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute during the period from March to December 2007. In the greenhouse condition, the highest % mortality (67.37) was observed in the plot treated with 3% neem oil but it had some phytotoxie effect on jute leaves, therefore from the green house experiment. 2% neem oil was selected as most appropriate dose for field experiment as higher dose cause phytotoxicity on plant. In field experiment, highest % reduction of infestation over control (79.23'h lowest number of nodes per plant (53.25). highest plant height (3.28 iii), and highest % of yield increased (39.33%) over control were observed in the plot treated with 2% neem oil. Benefit cost ratio was also found highest (16.55) from 2% nccm oil treated plot. In late jute seed crop, the highest % reduction of infestation by red mite (75.17%) and yellow mite (75.28). maximum 1000 seed weight (2.53 g). % germination (86%) and seed vigour (56) was recorded from 2% necm oil treated plots. It was observed that Acarieide such as Sulphur. Chlorinated hydrocarbon, Organophosphate and Abamectin killed all the predators of' jute mites tested while; there is no harmful effect of neem products on predators.
