Item EVALUATION OF PLANT EXTRACTS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF BRINJAL SHOOT AND FRUIT BORER(Department of Entomology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, 2013-06) ISLAM, MD. ASHADULAn experiment was conducted at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka-1207 during the period from November 2011 to June 2012 to evaluate the performance of some plant extracts for the management of brinjal shoot and fruit borer, (Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee). Experiment comprised 8 treatments including a control viz., T1: Tamarind fruit extract @ 50 g L-1 water, T2: Morning glory leaf extract @ 50 g L-1 water, T3: Bullok’s heart leaf extract @ 50 g L-1 water, T4: Neem leaf extract @ 50 g L-1 water, T5: Tobacco leaf extract @ 50 g L-1 water, T6: Mahogony seed extract @ 50 g L-1 water, T7: Aktara 25 WG @ 0.5 g L-1 and T8: Control. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Neem leaf extract @ 50 g L-1 water (T4) produced the highest number of total shoots (16.00 plant-1), healthy shoots (15.67 plant-1), total fruits (25.33 plant-1), healthy fruits (23.00 plant-1), total fruits weight (2.711 kg plant-1), healthy fruit weight (2.645 kg plant-1) and fruits yield (36.15 t ha-1). Lower number of infested shoot and fruits (0.33 and 2.33 plant-1, respectively) and percentage (2.223 and 9.303%, respectively) were also found in neem leaf extract @ 50 g L-1 water (T4), and infested fruits weight as well as its percentage was also lower (0.250 kg plant-1 and 9.303% respectively) in the same treatment. In contrast, per cent protection of shoot and fruit borer over control was higher (92.45 and 91.26%, respectively) and fruit yield increase over control was also higher (61.74%) in this treatment. Control treatment performed poorly in all parameters. These results concluded that the use of neem leaf extract @ 50 g L1 water would be highly effective to reduce the shoot and fruit infestation as well as to get higher yield of brinjal.Item INFLUENCE OF CROP RESIDUES, PRESS MUD AND TANNERY WASTE ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF AUS RICE(Department of Soil Science, 2009-12) ISLAM, MD. ASHADULAn experiment was conducted in the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from February to July 2009 to study the influence of crop residues, press mud and tannery waste on the growth and yield of aus rice. The experiment consisted of 10 treatments such as- T 1 : No chemical fertilizer, no organic amendment (control); T 2: 100% recommended N, P. K and S (100 kg N, 60 kg P205, 40 kg K 2 0 and 25 kg S/ha); T 3 : Decomposed crop residues (rice straw) without nutrient enrichment; 14 : Decomposed crop residues (rice straw) with nutrient enrichment; T5 : Decomposed tannery waste without nutrient enrichment; T6 : Decomposed tannery waste with nutrient enrichment; T: Decomposed sugar mill waste (press mud) without nutrient enrichment; T3 : Decomposed sugar mill waste (press mud) with nutrient enrichment; 19 : Decomposed crop residues (rice straw) + tannery waste with nutrient enrichment and ho: Decomposed crop residues (rice straw) + press mud with nutrient enrichment. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications. The maximum plant height (88.87 cm at harvest), number of total tillers per hill (17.71), number of effective tillers per hill (13.43), length of panicle (24.50 cm), number of filled grain per plant (91.40), grain yield (7.23 tlha), straw yield 12 (7.60 tlha), NPKS concentrations and their uptake were obtained from 100% of the recommended NPKS treatment. The performance of press mud was as good as the chemical fertilizer treatment. Composts produced through nutrient enrichment increased yield of rice compared to without nutrient enrichment during composting The application of composts increased organic matter and NPKS content of post harvest soil.Item PREVALENCE OF DISEASES IN DAIRY COWS AND EFFECTS OF ANTHELMINTIC TREATMENT ON MILK YIELD OF PARTURATED COWS(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2017-12) ISLAM, MD. ASHADUL; Dr. Md. Shajedur RahmanThe study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of diseases in dairy cows in relation with seasons and effects of anthelmintics treatment on milk yield in parturated cows. It was carried out for a period of one year starting from July, 2016 to June, 2017. A total 3000 clinical cases were recorded on the basis of owner’s complain, general examination, clinical signs, laboratory test and management system. According to study the highest prevalence was recorded by parasitic diseases 32.9% followed by viral diseases 18.84%, bacterial diseases 15.77%, reproductive disorder 14.7%, general clinical disorders 14.53%, other clinical disorder 2.84% and surgical affection 0.43% respectively. Among bacterial, viral and reproductive diseases the highest prevalence were found in mastitis 9.16%, foot and mouth disease 14.66% and repeat breeding 5.7% respectively. The most common surgical disorder was upward patellar fixation 0.43%. On the basis of season it was found that prevalence of diseases were significantly (P <0.01) higher in summer season 51.03% followed by winter season 25.23% and comparatively lower in rainy season 23.73%. Among the total population, 48 parturated mixed breed dairy cows were selected to determine the effects of anthelmintics treatment on milk yield. In treated lactation, treatment with combined Ivermectin and cloursulon (A-Mectin plus®) @ 1ml/50kg body weight subcutaneously was significantly (P<0.05) increase the average milk yield 25% on 90 days than nitroxynil (Nitronex®) and combined triclabendazole and levamisole (Trilev®). Furthermore it has been found that parasitic infestation, mastitis, foot and mouth disease and repeat breeding commonly affect dairy cows and anthelmintic has positive impact on milk yield of parturated cows.
