    BUS-Y: A Smart Bus Tracking System

    This project “BUS-Y” is an android application which helps the passengers of Dhaka city by showing the available route, available bus and their exact location. It also helps the user by informing them about the traffic situation of the road. Our aim is to create an easier and better communication for both passengers and the transport company. When a passenger search for his destination the app will provide best fit for him along with the root and the traffic situation with traffic situation. This also provide the exact location of that desired bus to the passenger so that one can choose the bus for their destination and also can save their valuable time. In this system the transporter can provide their bus routes and share their location. Our aim is to use one of the easiest and secure authentication with mobile number to authenticate the user. Our aim is the App support on the least expensive Android device so that it can be useful to mass people. And for internet our idea is keep the data flow minimal so that the data expense acceptable and can work on any network condition whether its 2G, 3G or LTE. To develop this project, the most essential tool is Android SDK and Jason Tree & java coding and Firebase server. We also need Firebase spark administration tool for handling Jason tree database.

    EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND ZINC ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF ONION (BARI Peyaj- 6)

    The research work was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Shere-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207 during the Rabi season of December 2021. The experiment was undertaken to investigate the effect of nitrogen and zinc on the growth and yield of onion. The experiment comprised of two factors; Factor A: 0 kg/ha (N 0 ), 60 kg/ha (N 1 ), 100 kg/ha (N 2 ), 140 kg/ha (N 3 ) and Factors B: Levels of zinc (3 levels) 0 kg/ha (Zn 0 ), 2 kg/ha (Zn 1 ), 4 kg/ha (Zn 2 ). The two factors experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Results of the experiment revealed that N and Zn significantly influenced yield parameters and yield of BARI Peyaj-6. The nitrogen level of N 3 (140 kg/ha) gave the tallest plant (48.29 cm) while the N 0 (0 kg/ha) treatment gave the shortest plant (43.83 cm). The maximum (8.02) number of leaves, highest leaf length (39.87 cm), highest length of bulb (4.81 cm), highest diameter of the bulb (4.40 cm), maximum stem diameter (1.50 cm), fresh leaf weight (22.82 g), dry leaf weight (11.94 g), maximum (48.70 g) fresh bulb, maximum (3.53 kg/plot) yield, and maximum (17.56 t/ha) total yield also performed by N 3 (140 kg/ha). Among all the growth as well as yield and yield attributing traits Zn 2 (4 kg Zn/ha) performed better than the other treatments. Among different combined treatments, N 3 Zn 2 (140 kg N/ha and 4 Kg Zn/ha) performed the best in respect of all yield and yield contributing characteristics while the lowest value of those parameters was observed in the control treatment combination of N 0 ii Zn 0 (kg N/ha and 0 kg Zn/ha). The combined effect of nitrogen and zinc was also significant in respect of several traits. However, the maximum height (54.32cm) of the plant, the highest (9.85) number of leaves, leaf length (43.17 cm), stem diameter (1.58) of the plant, maximum fresh leaf weight (25.30 g), dry leaf weight (13.56 g, maximum length of bulb (5.23 cm), highest diameter of the bulb (4.81 cm), maximum fresh bulb weight (57.68 g) of the, highest yield (3.96 kg/plot) of the plant, and the maximum total yield (19.78 t/ha) of the plant also found in N 3 Zn 2 (140 kg N/ha and 4 kg Zn/ha) treatment combination. Therefore, it is concluded that the treatment combination N 3 Zn 2 (140 kg N/ha and 4 kg Zn/ha) may be recommended for maximizing the yield of BARI Peyaj-6 at Tejgaon series soil.

    EFFECT OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC FERTILIZERS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF MUNGBEAN

    The experiment was conducted at the research field of the Department of Crop Physiology and Ecology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur during the period from August 2018 to November 2018 to evaluate the effects of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the morphophysiological characters, yield contributing characteristics and yield of mungbean. The treatment consists of nine fertilizer applications (T1=65 kg TSP/ha, T2=85 kg TSP/ha, T3=45 kg TSP + 10 ton cowdung/ha, T4=45 kg TSP + 15 ton cowdung/ha, T5=65 kg TSP + 10 ton cowdung/ha, T6=65 kg TSP + 15 ton cowdung/ha, T7=85 kg TSP + 10 ton cowdung/ha, T8=85 kg TSP + 15 ton cowdung/ha.) and a control. In this experiments different combinations of organic and inorganic fertilizers were used for comparison. A promising variety, BARI mung 6 was used as a test variety. All the seeds were sown in the experimental plots on 10 September 2018 following line-sowing methods. The unit plot size was 3 m2 (2m ×1.5m). The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates. The results revealed that different combinations of organic and inorganic fertilizers significantly affected most of the morpho-physiological characters, yield contributing characteristics and yield of mungbean. Maximum grain yield was obtained from the application of 85 kg TSP + 15 ton cowdung/ha, while application of 85 kg TSP + 10 ton cowdung/ha ranked second for grain yield. Where the lowest value were found from control. Treatments may be ranked in the order of T8> T7> T2> T6> T5> T1> T4>T3>T0

    EFFECT OF TRANSFORMATION OF CROPLAND INTO LITCHI ORCHARD IN DINAJPUR DISTRICT

    The main purpose of this study was to find out the extent and effect of transformation of cropland into litchi orchard, to determine and describe some selected characteristics of the litchi growers, to identify the problems faced by the litchi growers in transformation of cropland into litchi orchard and probable suggestions given by them to overcome the problems. The study was conducted in Sadar and Biral upazila of Dinajpur District. An updated list of (266) litchi growers was collected from Upazila Agriculture Office of respective upazilas. From that list, 80 litchi growers were selected by simple random sampling procedure as sample for this study. A pretested and structured interview schedule was used to collect data from the respondents 15 April to 15 May, 2015. Ten selected characteristics of the litchi growers namely: age, educational qualification, farm size, farming experience, annual family income, extension contact, agricultural knowledge, innovativeness, marketing orientation, and attitude towards technology were investigated. Transformation of cropland into litchi orchard was the focus issue of the study. During the last 10 years (2005 to 2014) the area of transplanted land was 37.653 ha out of 134.338 ha of total land. The percentage of transformation in the year 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 were 20.62, 36.02, 43.20, 36.30, 16.85, 13.25, 28.37, 62.22, 41.35 and 35.60 percent respectively were replaced by litchi. Farmers of the study area transform their cropland into litchi orchard in the year of 2005 to 2014 were 09.669, 13.198, 02.070, 03.093, 02.098, 01.273, 01.397, 02.228, 01.157 and 01.470 ha respectively. The major crops such as rice, maize and wheat, and some minor crops i.e. potato, vegetable, mustard, garlic, turmeric and napier grass were replaced by litchi. The effect of transformation on economic, environmental, household food security, and social status were considered as medium by 60.00 percent, 70.00 percent, 61.25 percent, and 58.75 percent respectively of the litchi growers. The most important problem identified by the litchi growers was ‘getting fair price is difficult due to interfere of middleman’ and the least problem was identified by the litchi growers was ‘high production cost’. On the other hand, the apex solution suggested by the respondents was ‘organizing more training program for the farmers’ while the least one was ‘appropriate co-ordination among the litchi farmers’.

    IMPACT OF VALUE CHAIN PROGRAM ON WOMEN BENEFICIARIES UNDER POLLISREE

    The main focus of this study was to determine and describe the socio-demographic characteristics of the women beneficiaries of Pollisree, to determine the impact and explore the difference in the changes of the condition of the women beneficiaries on the following aspects: changes in the social participation of women beneficiaries and changes in decision making of women beneficiaries, to explore the relationships between impact of value chain and selected characteristics of women beneficiaries and to determine the problems in implementing value chain and suggestions to overcome the problems. The study was carried out in Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur District. Ninety two (92) respondents were selected as sample from an updated list of 184 women beneficiaries using simple random sampling method. Data were collected by a pre-tested interview schedule during 1" March to 15" April 2014. Value chain program had greater impact to the social participation of women beneficiaries under pollisree. Women beneficiaries of Pollisree got a greater opportunity to increase their decision making ability after introduce of value chain program. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient analysis indicated that out of eight selected characteristics of the women beneficiaries savings, attitude towards Pollisree, training received and aspiration have significant positive relationships with the impact of value chain. ‘Lack of skill among women beneficiaries’ (90.22 percent) emerged as the most important problem opined by the women beneficiaries. The least (56.52 percent) perceived problem mentioned by the respondent was ‘getting of whole seller in value chain market system is difficult’. Foremost (78.26 percent) suggestion cited by the women beneficiaries was ‘organization of seminar, workshop in a regular interval’. ‘Relation building training between husband and wife may be increased’ (55.43percent) was suggested by the women as the last suggestion to overcome the problems.

    MANAGEMENT OF WHITEFLY,BEMISIA TABACIGENN.IN TOMATOBY INTERCROPPING

    A field experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University tofind out the effect of intercropping on the management of whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Lin.) during November 2010 to April 2011. The crop combinations were tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Lin.) + garlic (Allium sativum), tomato + radhuni (Trachyspermum roxburghianum), tomato + mouri (Foeniculum vulgare), tomato + methi (Trigonella foenium-graecum), tomato + radish (Raphanus sativum), tomato + coriander (Coriandrum sativum) and Sole tomato (control). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Significantly, the lowest number of infested plant/plot (5m2) (0.00, 0.67 and 1.67 at 40, 80 and 115 DAT respectively), lowest number of leaf curl infested plant/plot (0.67), lowest number of white fly/plant (2.67, 4.50 and 5.33 at 40, 80 and 115 DAT respectively), highest number of healthy plant/plot (5m2) (12.00, 11.33 and 10.33 at 40, 80 and 115 DAT, respectively), highest number of total natural enemy/plant (3.33), highest healthy tomato yield (16.00 t/ha), lowest infested tomato yield (1.00 t/ha), highest total tomato yield (17.00 t/ha), highest relative yield (1.80 t/ha), highest tomato equivalent yield (17.69 t/ha) and highest gross return (Tk. 621600.00/ha) were recorded in tomato + garlic intercropping system. But in case of total number of other insect pest/plant the lowest (1.33) was achieved from Tomato + radhuni intercropping system. In terms of percent (%) reduction or increase over control, the highest reduction on number of infested plant/plot (5m2) (100%, 83.25% and 74.96% at 40, 80 and 115 DAT respectively), number of white fly/plant (77.75%, 72.73% and 74.21% at 40, 80 and 115 DAT respectively), number of leaf curl infested plant/plot (81.74%), highest percent (%) increase of healthy plant/plot (5m2) (28.62%, 41.63% and 93.81% at 40, 80 and 115 DAT respectively) and total number of natural enemy/plant (226.47%) over control were recorded in tomato + garlic intercropping system. As a result the treatment combination of tomato + garlic was the best treatment followed by tomato + methi, tomato + radhuni, tomato + mouri, tomato + radish and tomato +coriander where sole treatment (control) gave the lowest performance in turns of gross return.

    ORGANIC MANAGEMENT OF WILT COMPLEX AND TOMATO YELLOW LEAF CURL VIRUS IN SUMMER TOMATO USING BIO-AGENTS, BOTANICAL AND AGRO BIO-PRODUCTS FORTIFIED SOIL

    A pot and a lab experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of selected bioagents (Metarhizium anisopliae, Trichoderma harzianum, Verticillum lecanii, Beauveria bessiana), botanicals [Clerodendrum infortunatum (Vat) leaf extract, Lantana camara leaf extract, Azadiracta indica (Neem) leaf extract] and agro bioproducts (Tea wastage, Garlic powder, Mustard oil cake) against the wilt complex and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) in summer tomato cultivation. The experiment was conducted at net house in the Department of Plant Pathology, Shere-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, Bangladesh, during the period of July to October, 2021. The experiment was carried out in a complete randomized design (CRD) with three replications and each of the treatment contains 3 pots. The total number of unit pots was 30. Summer variety ‘BARI hybrid tomato-4’ was used as a tested cultivar. Data on disease incidence and disease severity of wilt complex and TYLCV was recorded at 30, 45 and 60 DAT. Fungal pathogen was isolated by tissue planting method. Bacterial pathogen was isolated by dilution and streaking method. In case of wilt complex, among the selected bio–agents, the lowest disease incidence (33.33%) and severity (15%) was found in T 1 (Metarhizium anisopliae + Trichoderma harzianum) and the highest disease incidence (66.67%) and severity (20%) was found in T 3 (Metarhizium anisopliae + Beauveria bessiana). In case of TYLCV, the lowest disease incidence (66.67%) and severity (20%) was found in T 3 (Metarhizium anisopliae + Beauveria bessiana) and the highest disease incidence (100%) and severity (30%) was found in T 2 (Metarhizium anisopliae + Verticillum lecanii). From the present study, it was found that the wilt complex of tomato caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici and Ralstonia solanacearum that was confirmed by morphological characteristics of macro and micro conidial structures and biochemical tests viz. gram staining, motility, KOH solubility, catalase and simon’s citrate test, respectively. The performance of the treatments in respect of yield and yield contributing characters against wilt complex and TYLCV of summer tomato varied significantly. However, from the present study it may be concluded that mustard oil cake and neem leaf extract can be used as ecofriendly approach for effective management of wilt complex and Tomato Yellow Leaf curl Virus (TYLCV) in summer tomato cultivation.

    PHYSIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF MUNG BEAN (Vigna radiata) VARIETIES FOR WATER DEFICIT STRESS TOLERANCE

    An experiment was conducted at the research field and laboratory of the Department of Crop Physiology and Ecology, Hajee Mohammed Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur, during the period of mid-January to mid - June, 2019 to evaluate four mungbean varieties for water deficit stress tolerance. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The main plot treatment consisted of two water regimes: (i) well water and (ii) water stress condition) and the sub plot treatments consisted of four mungbean varieties: (i) BINA mung-5, (ii) BINA mung-8, (iii) BARI mung-6 and (iv) BARI mung-8. Results showed that, cell membrane of BINA mung-5 (97.86%), BINA mung-8 (93.97%), BARI mung-6 (90.42%) were found more stable than that of BARI mung8 (66.31%) against polyethylene glycol (PEG) induced water deficit stress. The yield and yield contributing characters of mungbean varieties were significantly reduced by water deficiency condition. The grain yield of BINA Mung 5 (17.31%) was affected less than that of BARI Mung 6 (39.79%), BINA Mung 8 (49.02%) and BARI mung 8 (30.70%) due to water deficit stress. Higher level of leaf proline, higher total dry mater, higher cell membrane stability and better yield components such as pods plant-1 , grain number plant-1 and grain yield plant-1 contributed greater yield of BINA Mung 5 under water stress condition. The order of stress susceptibility based on grain yield was found as BINA Mung 5 (0.5) > BARI Mung 8 (0.88)> BARI Mung 6(1.16)> BINA Mung 8(1.42).
