Determinants of Garment Owners’ Perception in Selection of Banks: Evidence from Bangladesh
(Faculty of Business Studies, BUFT, 2021-08-01) Redwanuzzaman, Dr. Md.; Hossain, Md. Kamal; Rana, Masud
Purpose: This study aims to provide bank management in the banking industry with a useful insight into the bank selection determinants of a profitable major segment of garment owners. It is motivated by the need to address the limitations of the studies in this field. Methodology: Exploratory factor analysis has been employed to examine a sample of 176 garment owners as respondents in the capital of Dhaka and its outskirts of the citychosen from selected commercial banks using a convenience sampling method. The respondents are reached by employing prior appointments withthe designed questionnaire at the various bank’s premises, garment owner’s offices, and their homes. Respondent's feedback is analyzed and presented through the Factor analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis, and ANOVA One-way Test. Findings: The research finding showed that “Promises and guarantees made by the bank” “Price offering (incl. terms and conditions)”, and “Range of services and their features” are very important three factors for the garment owners in Bangladesh. Limitations: The study focuses only on some commercial banks ignoring all other types of banks operating in Bangladesh. Practical Implications: The study has made recommendations to understand the banking behavior in identifying the appropriate marketing strategies needed to attract new customers and retain the existing profitable major segment of garment owners. Originality: The findings of the study clearly showed and explained the concern of how garment owners, a profitable major segment for banks, choose their banks other than the customer as a whole.

Improve computational complexity of sobel edge detection using parallel contract anytime algorithm
(BRAC University, 2016-04) Hossain, Md. Kamal; Ibtehaz, Md. Asif; Ashique, Md. Assaduzzaman; Uddin, Jia
Edge detection is a considerably important factor in image or video processing. Detecting the edges of an image play a significant role in image segmentation, data compression, well matching, and image reconstruction. There are several approaches available to detect the edges of an image. In this paper we focus on Sobel edge detection using contract-time anytime algorithm in CUDA. To reduce the computational complexity we implemented our proposed edge detection method using an NVIDIA GPU. In the experimental setup we have used NVIDIA GTX 550Ti GPU along with AMD FX8150 Processor and 8 GB RAM. Finally, we measure speedup as well as quick, moderate and final (3steps of contract) of our proposed parallel implemented model. Comparing with conventional serial CPU based edge detection we have experienced maximum 4X speedup of proposed implementation for 16 block dimension.

Quality procurement : a comparative study between public and private procurement practices in Bangladesh
(BRAC University, 2015-06) Hossain, Md. Kamal; Islam, Dr. Md. Zohurul
Quality procurement and its sustainability is the utmost desire for all type of organizations in local and global perspective. In this study, it has been attempted to understand the scenario of three strategic broad tools to reach and implement quality procurement practices in both public and private entities in Bangladesh. The objectives of the research have been drawn to know and compare the effectiveness of procurement practices in Bangladesh Betar and Grameenphone Limited, to assess the scenario of good governance, and finally, to promote the good governance practice to make feasible to sustain quality procurement practices in both organizations. The objectives have guided the methods of implementation and processes in accomplishing quality procurement at different levels of outcomes. In this study, both the quantitative as well as qualitative investigating techniques were conducted. The major analysis has been covered by the quantitative explaining tools. Some speculations have been illustrated to identify status of the key variables of the study to the goal of quality procurement in the typical organizations in public and private sector. In the quantitative methods of analysis, the distinctive features for both Bangladesh Betar and Grameenphone Limited have analyzed by mean values with standard deviation, correlation, and regression tools. Smart guess has been drawn by discussing in informal interviews with the imperative officials, professionals, and academicians from various institutions. In analyzing research data, it was found that the optimum success did not reveal by practicing procurement process tools in all respects, but by hypothesis outcomes, it was shown that practicing process tools and techniques may lead to the good governance and quality procurement practices in both organizations. It was also observed that the status of Grameenphone Limited was better than Bangladesh Betar in all aspects. It is supposed that a further rigorous analysis would be needed to evaluate the quality procurement practices in each organization as the research and its analysis have a number of limitations, and specify guidelines for future research to sustain quality procurement practices.

‘Strengthening procurement governance in Bangladesh: A review of the Local Government Engineering Department's role in ensuring accountability and efficiency
(BRAC University, 2024-04) Hossain, Md. Kamal; Khan,Masud Akter
Bangladesh’s public procurement legal framework has sought to ensure transparency, accountability and fairness in government procurements. My report titled “Strengthening Procurement Governance in Bangladesh: A Review of the Local Government Engineering Department's Role in Ensuring Accountability and Efficiency" attempts to reveals the factual scenario of transparency, accountability and fairness in Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). This engineering department have been practicing electronic government procurement (e-GP) from the very launching of e-GP. Moreover, LGED has always been a front liner comparing contemporary government departments regarding best practice of public procurement. However, there are a lot of challenges implementing good procurement governance within the existing internal and external organizational environment. In this background, I have analysed the Bangladeshi procurement governance with a view to fathoming ‘accountability and efficiency’ in public procurements of LGED. I conclude by urging for simplified and elaborated rules, more circumscribed administrative discretion, and a robust but principled judicial review of procurement decisions. This has been a theoretical study, based on primary and secondary sources of knowledge.
