    Development of a Low Cost Household Level Biological Arsenic-Iron Removal Unit

    The urban and rural water supply system in Bangladesh is mainly dependent on groundwater. Widespread arsenic contamination and presence of elevated level of iron in groundwater are the major water quality problem in Bangladesh, Thousands of people are reported to have already symptoms of severs arsenic poisoning and several millions arc at risk of arsenic, contamination from drinking tubewell water. A few number of costly household level Arsenic and iron removal units are available in the contaminated areas but most of them are chemical dependent and complex in operation and maintenance. The socio-economic conditions of Bangladesh demands low-cost treatment systems that could be implemented in the rural areas at household levels. Although a few household level arsenic removal units have been developed and tested, little -attempt has been made in the development of a low cost biological type arsenic-iron removal unit. Considering the above points, a low cost bio-physicochemical treatment unit has been developed al laboratory scale for simultaneous arsenic and iron removal from groundwater. The biological fixed bed reactor using coconut husk along with iron-matrix, charcoal and sand filtration have combined the bio-physicochemical removal processes in o single system. The unit was developed by using locally available materials in Bangladesh. The developed unit consists of three buckets where arsenic-iron contaminated raw water was poured into the first one. In this bucket bio-oxidation took place. Arsenic-Iron concentrated raw water was oxidized by the bacteria. The bacteria were produced on coconut husk bed and form small particles by sorption onto Fe(OH)3. 111 second bucket comparatively larger flocculated particles precipitated and settled at the lop of the chamber nod the removal of precipitated particles through sorption onto iron ox hydroxides. Additional adsorption of escaped arsenic from the first bucket was done on the iron matrix layer in the second bucket. Other fine and coarse particles precipitated on charcoal and coarse sand. Final removal of bacteria and other fine particles were accomplished in the 3rd bucket TI1is bucket consists of simple methodological technique of slow sand filtration under submerged condition i.e, stable bio¬ film slime layer. Following the above technique, detail laboratory analysis nod tests were carried out for nine different ratios of arsenic-iron concentrated synthetic raw water, Considering different hydro¬ geological conditions, modifications were made to the developed unit for field applications. The modified units were then installed and tested in different water quality conditions at the field level. The main findings drawn from this test were as follows: (i) The raw water with arsenic concentration up to 500 ppb was treated with the laboratory and field treatment units satisfying Bangladesh standards (50ppb) without using any chemicals; (ii) Maintaining a face velocity of 0.5 m3m2-hr, appreciable iron removal efficiency over 90'>/o was achieved through the treatment unit; (iii) No sign of Total Coliform were detected in the treated water produced by the unit. It appeared that the units performed consistently well in eliminating bacteria; (iv) Some selected water quality parameters of treated water (pH, Turbidity, Color, Mn, DO, EC) were determined at random basis and they were found within the acceptable limit of Bangladesh standard: and [v] The operation and maintenance of the developed treatment units are simpler and more users friendly. It was observed that the clogging of the units were occurred over six months for most of the cases, Clogging of the units was varied for different iron concentrations of the raw water. The final finding was observed that the unit produced sparkling clear water with no arsenic and iron for continuous duration of six to ten months without any maintenance.

The prime objective of such program is to provide students on the job exposure and the opportunity to translate the bookish knowledge in real life situation. Sadharan Bima Corporation stands as insurer of public sector assets on its own behalf and also on behalf of private sector general insurance companies and also playing a role of national reinsurance to the reinsurance industry. It also contributes to the GDP of our country but it is still in a primary stage. Though limited but contributes of insurance business in the economic development of the country are very important. The premiums collected by SBC play a major role in building up national capital. This sort of capital can increase overall production by investing in different sectors. The main objective of this report is to give an overview about the investment policy of Sadharan Bima corporation from the period of 2012 to 2016.The study aims to focus on the key topic of investment policy of Sadharan Bima Corporation and its investment portfolio, the sectorsin whichthey invest their capital, investment trends and also about details of financial performance & statement senior and activities of SBC. In the last major findings and recommendation will be given about the topic as per the report.

    PERFORMANCE OF PINEAPPLE AND ITS QUALITY AS AFFECTED BY MULTISTORIED AGROFORESTRY PRODUCTION SYSTEM

    An Experiment conducted at the Germplasm centre, Fruit Tree Tmprovement Project, Bangladesh Agricultural University (FTIP-BALI-DH), Mymensingh, during the period of May 28, 2002 to August 30, 2003 to determine the production and quality of pineapple (var. Giant Kew) as affected by different mulcistoried agroforestry systems. Different multilayered agroforestry production systems under study were: sissoo guava + pineapple, sissoo ~ lemon ~ pineapple, mango 4- guava + pineapple, coconut - guava - t- pineapple, coconut + lemon + pineapple and a control pineapple plot. Different multistoried agroforestry systems under this study had showed significant influence on yield, yield attributing and quality parameters of pineapple. Considering the effect of shade on yield without crown (27.08 tiha) different multistoried tree combinations showed statistically similar trend, but when total yield compared with control plot, it showed significant difference. The highest fruit set (82.23%), individual fruit weight (0.96 Kg), fruit size (42.28 cm), L/B ratio (1.31), pulp of fruit (0.46 kg), pulp-peel ratio (2.35) and edible portion (70-05%) were obtained when pineapple grown under sissoo - lemon based agroforestry system where light intensity was 22.99% i.e., under partial shade. An increase in peel of fruit (0.22 kg). length / breadth ratio (1.26), total yield with crown (38.44 t/ha), moisture content (81.05%). total titratabie acidity (0.59%) and decrease in total sugar (9.53%), edible portion (65.51%) pulp-peel ratio (1.96) were observed, when pineapple grown under mango guava based agroforestry system with 13. 45% noon time light intensity i.e., in full shady place. Under control condition (86.30% light intensity) fruit size (35.38 cm), fruit weight (0.77kg), pulp of fruit (0.36 kg). total yield with (32.19 t/ha) and without crown (23.44 t/ha), length of fruit (24.38 cm), edible portion (64.86 0 /'o) were decreased with increase of light intensity and increase in TSS / acidity ratio (38.79) and pH (5.16).

    Studying Machine Learning Algorithms for Customer Churn Prediction

    In this new era, customer relationship management is a challenging deed in the telecommunications industry because this is a profoundly competitive sector and continually challenged by customer churn. For predicting out the customer churn accurately, this article represents a comparative analysis among the most prevalent machine learning techniques. The first step to han- dle the challenging issue of a customer churn prediction is the uses of Data Mining and Machine Learning tools. Feature Engineering along with widely utilized classification methods such as (DT) Decision Tree, ANN (Artificial Neural Network) and SVM (Support Vector Machine), is implemented on a public domain telecoms dataset. After the main phase, this analysis finds out the best overall classifier using Accuracy, Precision, Support, Recall, F- measure, which is determined from the substance of the Confusion Matrix.
