Item ANALYSIS OF NUTRIENT CONTENTS IN CONVENTIONAL AND NONCONVENTIONAL FEED INGREDIENTS AND ITS EFFECTS ON CARP POLYCULTURE PRODUCTION(Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2013-01) Asadujjaman, M.; Shelly, N. J.; Islam, M. A.; Hossain, M. A.A study on proximate composition of conventional and non-conventional fish feed ingredients was carried out involving two separate experiments. First experiment was conducted from April 2010 to September 2010 at the Protein and Enzyme Research Laboratory, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi with a view to determine nutrient (protein, lipid and carbohydrate) content of some feed ingredients i.e. Rice bran, wheat bran, mustard oil cake, Azolla, grass (Cynodon dactylon) and leaf of banana (Musa acuminate) among the feed samples, protein, lipid and carbohydrate content significantly varied from 6.18±0.13 (banana leaf) to 30.53±0.40% (oil cake), 3.06±0.09 (banana leaf) to 13.33±0.10% (oil cake) and 32.95±0.29 (oil cake) to 66.12±0.47% (wheat bran), respectively. Second experiment was conducted during the period from April 20 II to September 20 II at Alampur village of SOOarUpazila under Kushtia district, Bangladesh with a view to evaluate the fish production and economics under different conventional and non-conventional feed based carp polyculture systems. There were three replications for each treatment. In this experiment, treatment To(Semi-intensive ponds fed with feeds like rice bran, wheat bran and oi1cake as control) varied more significantly (P<0.05) for the mean values of total yield but in terms of total cost, total return, net benefit, net profit margin and eBR treatment T, (Azolla fed pond) was best. Therefore, the findings indicate that weeds (non-conventional feed items) are moderately nutritive and low cost effective diets for fish production.Item ASSESMENT OF SEASONAL ABUNDANCE OF ORIENTAL FRUIT FLY, BACTROCERA DORSALIS (HENDEL) AND DEVELOPMENT OF ARTIFICIAL LARVAL DIET FOR ITS MASS REARING(Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2013-01) Zahan, A.; Latif, M. A.; Hossain, M. A.; Rhaman, M. J.Seasonal variations of oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) were monitored in different agricultural field of Ganakbari, Savar, Dhaka during January 2012 to December 2012 and artifitial larval diet was prepared in the laboratory of Insect Biotechnology Division (ISO), Institute of Food and Radiation Biology (IFRS), Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Savar, Dhaka for possible field application of Sterile Insect Technique (SIT). Air temperature, relative humidity and rainfall were recorded during the study period. High level of oriental fruit fly population was found throughout the year except February and mean monthly capture was the highest in May. In case of efficiency of artifitiallarval diet the highest hatching percentage and the lowest larval duration was observed from the 4.87-4.89 pH of the diet. But based on the highest number of pupa, flier percentage, adult emergence percentage and lowest pupal duration diet having 5.22-5.26 pH was found to be economical and suitable for mass rearing of B. dorsalis.Item PRACTICES OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT USE BY THE FARMERS(Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Research System, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2007-07) Islam, M. A,; Hossain, M. A.; Amin, M. R.; Bashar, M. A.The purpose of the study was to determine practices of !PM use by the farmers and to explore the relationship between the 'selected characteristics of the farmers and their use of rPM practices. The selected characteristics were: Age, Education, Family size, farm size, training received, annual family income, extension media contact and agricultural knowledge. The study was conducted in Birampur Upazila under Dinajpur district. Data were collected from randomly selected 108 farmers using an interview schedule. Pearson's product Moment Correlation was used for the statistical analysis. The findings revealed that majority (97.3 %) of the respondents had medium to high use of !PM practices. Only 2.7 percent of the respondents had low use oflPM practices. However, use of practice ofIPM in crop production by the farmers had positive significant relationship with their education and contact with extension media exposure, while age of the respondents had significant negative relationships with their practices. Among the five selected iPM practices, the farmers were found having good extent of use of IPM practices. Among the 5 identified IPM practices "chemical control" ranked first and 2nd, 3'", 4th and 5th position in the rank order were "control by cultivation", "cultivation of pest resistant variety", "mechanical control" and "biological control" respectively.Item RESPONSE OF NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS FERTILIZERS EFFICIENCY ON GROWTH AND YIELD ATTRIBUTES OF SOYBEAN (Glycine max L. K.; Yesmin, S.; Zaman, T.A study was conducted to study the response of inorganic fertilizers, nitrogen, and phosphorus on morphophysiological and yield parameter of soybean, the experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) by three replications at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2019. Three levels (0, 25, and 40 kg N ha-1 ) of nitrogen and four levels (0, 18, 36, and 54 kg P ha-1 ) of phosphorus fertilizer used as a treatment for this experiment. Soybean plants responded to the nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer for the crop growing, and improving yield contributing characters were significantly influenced. Significant effect on plant height, number of branches, seeds plant-1 , number of filled pods plant-1 , the weight of seeds plant-1 , dry weight of the plant, stover weight plant-1 , 1000-seed weight, seeds, and stover yield were observed from the collective application of 25 kg N with 54 kg P ha-1 . A.; Bashir, I.; Zaman, K.Item TRAFFIC CONGESTION MONITORING IN THE SELECTED TRANSPORT AXIS OF CHITTAGONG CITY(Dept. of CE, CUET, 19-Dec-2018) Hossain, M. A.; Imam, M. O.Over the last few years, the transportation problem of Chittagong City has visibly been deteriorating gradually. This study is dedicated to analyzing present traffic congestion in the selected major transport axis of Chittagong city. The traffic study has been conducted on the five most important intersections (Tigrepass, Agrabad, Barik Building, Nimtoli, and CEPZ) by taking into consideration their commercial value and the movement of traffics. Observation of operational conditions indicates that the road continuously suffers from unrestrained movements of pedestrians, motorized and non-motorized vehicles. Again, from the estimated Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) data, it is found that the maximum peak period traffic flow is above 4000 PCU/Hour at Agrabad intersection designating overcrowded road. From the journey speed study, it is found that the average travel speed on the selected roadway is about 10 to 15 K.P.H. throughout the day dropping below 10 K.P.H. during the peak hour indicating severest congestion. The traffic capacity study of the existing roadway showed that the traffic capacity of the roadway is less than the present demand at major survey locations and providing a level of service (LOS)-F with existing traffic flow.
