Item Adsorptive Removal of Methylene Blue Dye Coloration from Aqueous Solution by Adsorption Using Jute Wastages(Daffodil International University, 2020-01) Hoque, Md. Saiful; Rashid, Muhammad Abdur; Jahan, NusratIn this research, treated and untreated waste jute fabric has been used to remove basic dye from aqueous solution by using the dye bath method. Wastage jute fabric was treated by scouring and bleaching. The effect of adsorbent mass on dye removal %, reflectance, and whiteness index has been examined. Furthermore, the effect of pH on dye removal % has been investigated. Maximum dye removal % achieved within 30-45 minutes while 14g treated waste jute fabric used as adsorbent. The adsorption capacity increased from 59.5 to 96 %, with increasing the pH of the aqueous solution from 3 to 10.5 while using treated adsorbents. Whiteness index and reflectance was increased with increasing the adsorbent mass.Item Evaluation of Personal Factors of Workers Affecting Productivity in RMG Sector in Bangladesh(Tekstilec, 2019-09) Mozumder, Sumon; Chakraborty, Samit; Hoque, Md. SaifulThe readymade garment sector in Bangladesh is considered the backbone of earning foreign currency that includes a large number of workers and is mostly responsible for the economic growth of the country. Nevertheless, despite the remarkable growth of the RMG sector and its bright projection, impediments need to be overcome as well. Readymade garment industries in Bangladesh are currently facing some challenges to ensure fire safety and better work environment for garment workers. Apart from several technical factors, personal factors of workers, e.g. education, age, training, work experience and motivation, might also have a substantial impact on the increase in productivity to compete in the global export market. Thus, it was vital to observe the impacts personal factors of workers have on the productivity of readymade garment industries. This study enabled an identification of personal factors of workers which aff ect the productivity of readymade garment industries. The factors were examined through some critical analyses, e.g. hypothesis test, factor analysis and fishbone diagram analysis. After the investigation of empirical data, principal factors were identified and highlighted to improve the productivity in these industries.Item Fashion Recommendation Systems, Models and Methods(Informatics, 2021-07-26) Chakraborty, Samit; Hoque, Md. On e-commerce platforms, where numerous choices are available, an efficient recommendation system is required to sort, order, and efficiently convey relevant product content or information to users. Image-based fashion recommendation systems (FRSs) have attracted a huge amount of attention from fast fashion retailers as they provide a personalized shopping experience to consumers. With the technological advancements, this branch of artificial intelligence exhibits a tremendous amount of potential in image processing, parsing, classification, and segmentation. Despite its huge potential, the number of academic articles on this topic is limited. The available studies do not provide a rigorous review of fashion recommendation systems and the corresponding filtering techniques. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first scholarly article to review the state-of-the-art fashion recommendation systems and the corresponding filtering techniques. In addition, this review also explores various potential models that could be implemented to develop fashion recommendation systems in the future. This paper will help researchers, academics, and practitioners who are interested in machine learning, computer vision, and fashion retailing to understand the characteristics of the different fashion recommendation systems.Item Fiber Types and Fabric Structures Influence on Weft Knitted Fabrics(Daffodil International University, 2022-06-20) Hoque, Md. MizanurThe physical properties of weft knitted fabrics can be modified according to the fabric structure and the raw material used to manufacture the final fabric. This research demonstrates the influence of fiber types and fabric structure on some specific physical properties such as bursting strength, wicking behavior, pilling effect, and abrasion resistance of weft knitted fabrics. For this purpose, in this research study, one natural fiber cotton, one regenerated fiber viscose, and one synthetic fiber polyester were used. At the same time, to avoid any conflicts of the other fabric production factors, the number of feeders, machine diameter, needle gauge, stitch length was kept constant during the production of the weft-knitted fabrics. Moreover, three different structures of single jersey fabric like plain single jersey, single lacoste, and double lacoste were used to produce nine single jerseys of weft knitted fabric, while in each knit structure, three fabrics were produced using 100% cotton, 100% viscose, and 100% polyester fiber. Statistical analysis has been performed along with factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by simple main effect and simple comparison analysis. The finding illustrates that both fiber types and fabric structure regulate the physical properties of weft knitted fabrics. The polyester fiber seems to possess excellent mechanical properties such as bursting strength, abrasion, and pilling resistance without any influence of fabric structures studied in this research. However, both the fiber types and fabric structure combinedly influence the wicking of weft knitted fabrics. Additionally, it has been assumed that the influence of fiber types and fabric structure on strength, pilling, abrasion-resistant, and wicking properties of fabrics also combined with the areal density and extensibility of weft knitted fabrics.Item Knitted Denim Fabrics(Scopus, 22-11-06) Hoque, Md. Jakir; Sheen, Sheenrina MiyanDenim-like knitted fabrics are getting popular for their several favorable properties, such as flexibility, comfort, and ease of manufacturing. This study aimed to manufacture knitted denim fabrics made from various blend ratios of cotton, polyester, and spandex fibers. Seven fabrics with a fiber blend ratio ranging from 95% cotton/5% spandex to 30% cotton/65% polyester/5% spandex were developed using a weft circular knitting machine. First, the twill effect of the knitted denim fabric was brought by following a cross terry knitting structure to produce each fabric sample of this study. After that, the fabric performance was analyzed by characterizations, such as areal density, pilling and abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, stretch, and recovery, tear strength, bursting strength, air permeability, vertical wicking, liquid absorbency capacity, and different colorfastness tests. The results showed that different cotton, polyester, and spandex fiber compositions did not significantly affect knitted denim fabrics’ weight per unit area, abrasion resistance, and different color fastness properties. However, the elongation and vertical wicking test data showed that the knitted denim fabrics with a higher cotton fiber ratio were better. However, the results from shrinkage, spirality, pilling, recovery, strength, air permeability, and liquid absorbency capacity tests revealed the benefits of having a higher polyester fiber ratio in the cotton/polyester/spandex blended knitted denim fabrics. One-way analysis of the variance test was also performed on the generated data of this study and reported in the respective section of the article. SaifulMosquito-repellent textiles are a part of protective textiles which help in protection from the species that are prone to cause diseases like malaria and dengue fever. This study explored the possibility of natural extract (alcoholic) from peppermint leaves, stems, and garlic cloves to use as a mosquito-repellent finish material on knit fabric. Accordingly, different concentration (5%, 15%, 25%, and 35%) of PGE (Peppermint Garlic Extract) solution was prepared and applied to the developed fabric using an exhaust dyeing process to assess the mosquito (Aedes Aegypti L.) repellency performance. Following WHO (World Health Organization) standard (cone bioassay) and a self-modified cage technique from literature survey, mosquito protection and repellency tests have been performed for characterization. The findings revealed that the PGE-treated fabric samples C (25% PGE) and D (35% PGE) had the highest mosquito mortality (50.00% and 76.67%, respectively) and repellency (78.6% and 85.6%, respectively) rates. Moreover, this study evaluated the prepared PGE formulations’ shelf-life performance and colorfastness properties of PGE-treated fabrics, including the impact of washing cycles on the treated fabrics. There was no fungal growth, and the fabric showed excellent colorfastness properties. Polyurethanes (PUs) are a versatile polymer class with diverse structure, morphology, and behavior under various conditions deemed suitable for many functional and intelligent responses. Owing to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, excellent mechanical strength, tailor-able chemical, and physical forms, PU has drawn significant research attentionin recent times for a wide range of applications. Herein, this review paper out-lines PU's recent advances in specific applications encompassing functional textiles, intelligent functionality and medical usage. This article contains a comprehensive review of recent developments and research works concerning U's direct involvement as coatings, 3D objects, or composite parts to add novel purpose to the textile substrates, smart objects, or medical applications. Commencing with PU's application for the waterproof breathable textiles, there view further explores recent research where PU was incorporated as a phase change material and protective clothing. This review further delves innovativefunctionalities and responsiveness of the polymer triggered by various stimuli. It ends with an inclusive review of PU's different forms of application concerning medical devices and activities. Finally, perspectives on future challenges and new research opportunities are also presented and discussed. Jakir; Hoque, Md. Saiful; Rashid, Muhammad AbdurTo acquire different fading effect and aesthetic outlook several techniques are applied in order that bleach wash is mostly used. As we know many limitations of bleach wash so our main motive is to find out an alternative method which can deliver same or better positive result than bleach wash. For this instance, we intend different concentrated acid wash and draw a comparison between acid and bleach wash on 100% cotton indigo dyed denim fabric. During our research, denim garments were developed using three parameters; bleach concentration 10 gm/L, temperature 40°C, time 20 minutes where acid concentration 0.5 to 2.5 ml/L, temperature 50°C, time 15 minutes. Due to change in acid concentration, the variation of its physical and mechanical properties like strength, weight loss, GSM, EPI & PPI and absorbency are observed. Furthermore, we focus on the color change properties such as wash, rubbing and perspiration fastness, CMC, K/S value and whiteness index. At the end of our study, we noticed that acid washed garments exhibit a promising disparity in almost all properties than bleach washed garments including same fading effects of bleach wash is accomplished by using 2% phosphoric acid in case of acid washing on denim fabric.
