EFFECT OF FOUR PRE- STORAGE SEED TREATING CHEMICALS ON MAINTAINING SEED QUALITY AND REDUCING STORAGE COST OF RICE SEED
(Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), 2021-07) Islam, M.S.; Hasan, M.
A laboratory experiment was conducted III rbc department or Agronomy. SAU. Dhaka with two rice varieties (OR II and ORRI dhanS7) and live pre- storage seed treating chemicals (no pre-storage 5(.'\.'(1 treatment. ascorbic acid @ 500 mg kg I seed. common bleaching powder @ 2 g kg·1 seed. red- chilli @ 2 g kg I seed and uspmn (ci 2 g kg I seed). TIle trcnuncnts were arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications. Eighty coniamers of which forty were tilled with 250 g BR II and rest wuh 250 g BRRI 7 nee seeds. eeds of each contamer were treated as per rrearmem, Seed qualuy aunbutcs viz.. germinauon (°0). "lability (0.). germination speed index. seedling vigor index. seedling dry weight. mean root length of seedling. mean shoot length of seedling. mean total length of seedling and relauvc values of these parameters were recorded at storage, 8 months nflcr storage and 9 months after srorage. Results indicated that up to 8 months after storage germination, viability, relative seed germination and relative viability were statistically similar in both BR II and SHIH dhanS7. BUI at 9 months after storage. these # II.qflCU1r.. parameters were reduced drastically in BRII. whereas statistically similar to at II months after storage. IY _<'/!;}J~ • £~7~ ~ Ascorbic acid and red chilh showed improved status in these parameters al 9 months after storage i ~ 1- remarkably III ORII. whereas ml3RRJ dhan 87 effects were negligible.

LP SVM with a Novel Similarity Function Outperforms Powerful LP-QP-Kernel-SVM Considering Efficient Classification
    (Slovene Society Informatika, 2023-03-27) Karim, R.; Hasan, M.; Kundu, A.K.; Ave, A.A.
While the core quality of SVM comes from its ability to get the global optima, its classification performance also depends on computing kernels. However, while this kernel-complexity generates the power of machine, it is also responsible for the computational load to execute this kernel. Moreover, insisting on a similarity function to be a positive definite kernel demands some properties to be satisfied that seem unproductive sometimes raising a question about which similarity measures to be used for classifier. We model Vapnik’s LPSVM proposing a new similarity function replacing kernel function. Following the strategy of”Accuracy first, speed second”, we have modelled a similarity function that is mathematically well-defined depending on analysis as well as geometry and complex enough to train the machine for generating solid generalization ability. Being consistent with the theory of learning by Balcan and Blum [1], our similarity function does not need to be a valid kernel function and demands less computational cost for executing compared to its counterpart like RBF or other kernels while provides sufficient power to the classifier using its optimal complexity. Benchmarking shows that our similarity function based LPSVM poses test error 0.86 times of the most powerful RBF based QP SVM but demands only 0.40 times of its computational cost

PERFORMANCE OF STEM AMARANTH DURlNG THE EARLY ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD OF MORINGA PLANTATION
    (Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), 2020-07) Ahmed, A.; Helal, M.G.J.; Naher, N.; Hasan, M.; Kausar, H.
A study was conducted to find out the effect of tree plunting distances on growth. yield and yield aunbuting characters of stern amaranth (AmaranlJllls oleraceus) during the early establishment period of Moringa (Moringa ole/faa) plantation. The study comprising of four treatments which were To (open field condinon). T (15 em away from tree base). T~(30 em away from tree base). T, (45 em 3\\3) from tree base). At han CSt.the maximum plan; height (59 ern) and number of le3f(24.75 cm) of stem amaranth were recorded in control condition whereas the least plant height (49 em) and leaf number (19.75) were recorded in TJ treatment. TIle highcs: leaf length (9.60 em) and leaf breadth (5.37 ern), stem girth (5.71 em), stem length (60.66 em). root length (15.118cm). shoot and root fresh weight (74.10 g and 15.62 g), shoot and root dry weight and yield (14 tIl13) were observed in open field condition. The yield of stem nmnramh in association with Moringn saplings was recorded lower compared to control condition. The yield reduction in treatment. TI (12 tlh(l), Tl (10.2 t/ha) and Tl (10.2 tIIm) were 16.6 %. and 26 %, respectively compared to open field condition. Among agroforcsiry treatments. the highest growth, yicld and yield contributing characters wen: found in plants under TI treatment revealed that stem amaranth shared available plant nutrients from thc pits of Moringa cuttings thus showing its potcnrial to be used in Moringa based agroforesrry farming system during the early singe of ..rstablishmcnt in large-scale.
