Financial Decision Making and Forecasting Techniques on Project Evaluation
(Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal, 2021) Shahriar, Mohammad Shibli; Hasan, K.B.M. Rajibul; Hossain, Tanzina; Beg, Tahrima Haque; Islam, K.M. Anwarul; Zayed, Nurul Mohammad
The application of forecasting techniques as part of project evaluations is an indispensable task as without applying proper forecasting procedure, appropriate financial decision making could not be achieved. The current study attempts to lay down a comprehensive account of the available forecasting techniques that aid a given project with its financial decision-making requirements. Through a comprehensive literature review, it has been found that a number of forecasting techniques are applied in making appropriate financial decisions as part of project evaluation. The technique of “Markov PERT” analysis has recently been used to accurately assess the time of project completion and the cost at completion. It has also been revealed that the application of hybrid algorithms and the use of artificial intelligence is growing for accurate forecasting results. However, it is found that in evaluating a project, the success of the application of various financial forecasting techniques such as NPV, ARR, IRR, Payback Period, Support Vector Machine, Monte Carlo Simulation, S curve and others, essentially depends upon the project nature and environment. It is, therefore, recommended that financial decision making should not only be done based on statistical error margins but only on the reliability of the warning signals as generated by any forecasting techniques.

Strategic Balancing of Pre-investment Practice and Post-investment Effects of Venture Capitalists (VCs)
(Academy of Strategic Management Journal, 2019) Chowdhury, Fatema Nusrat; Hasan, K.B.M. Rajibul; Kulsum, Umme; Akhter, Sharmin; Zayed, Nurul Mohammad
Venture Capitalists (VCs) practice investment activities for financing potential startups with innovative ideas. This paper initially addresses the investment process including five consecutive stages of business plan origination, screening, evaluation, negotiating investment and financing with assistance. Thereafter it identifies the challenges faced by VCs over their investment decision diving into pre and post investment segments taking consideration of potential biases and moral hazard. Finally, to offset such challenges by heuristics, three sophisticated methods-verbal protocol analysis, conjoint analysis, and actuarial decision model are generated for VCs to spur entrepreneurs by profitable investment. The consequences of the study are helpful for VCs in their investment decision-making process to amplify their prosperity rate.

Testing Balassa-Samuelson Model to Examine Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) of Bangladesh
(Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, 2018) Zayed, Nurul Mohammad; Chowdhury, Fatema Nusrat; Hasan, K.B.M. Rajibul
This paper has investigated Balassa-Samuleson hypothesis in Bangladesh to examine purchasing power parity (PPP) during 1972-2016. The broad objective of this study is to analyse whether purchasing power parity (PPP) holds in Bangladesh or not during the analysed period. Johansen Long Run Co integration test has been used through regression analysis to test the long run relationship among real exchange rate, relative price, relative productivity, government share and terms of trade of Bangladesh during 1972-2016. Descriptive statistics of the variables have also been shown. ADF Unit Root test has been used to test the stationary state of panel data. ECM Model, CUSUM & CUSUMQ tests have been applied to test the stability of the model. Johansen Long Run Co integration test has showed that there exists a long run relationship among the variables and purchasing power parity (PPP) does not hold in Bangladesh. It recommends better understanding of volatility and persistence of real exchange rate as transaction costs and nonlinearity matter for purchasing power parity (PPP).

Testing Phillips Curve to Examine the Inflation Rate regarding Unemployment Rate, Annual Wage Rate and GDP of Philippines: 1950-2017
(Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, 2018) Islam, Md. Rayhanul; Zayed, Nurul Mohammad; Hasan, K.B.M. Rajibul
This paper investigates whether Phillips curve is identified or not in Philippines during 1950-2017 regarding inflation rate, unemployment rate, annual wage rate and GDP (Gross Domestic Products). An OLS (Ordinary Least Square) model has been developed in accordance with Phillips curve to test the long run relationship among the said variables. ADF (Augmented Dicky-Fuller) unit root test is used to test the stationary state of data. Johansen long run co integration model estimated that there is a long run relationship among the variables. To test the stability of this model, CUSUM (Cumulative Sum) test, CUSUMQ (Cumulative Sum of Squares) test and an ECM (Error Correction Model) have been used. Government of Philippines need to implement policy tools in such a way that GDP and annual wage rate positively influence the unemployment rate and inflation rate of Philippines.

The Effect of Foreign Direct Investment on Public Health
(Scopus, 2021) Siddique, Fahimul Kader; Hasan, K.B.M. Rajibul; Chowdhury, Shanjida; Rahman, Mahfujur; Raisa, Tahsin Sharmila; Zayed, Nurul Mohammad
Health is an outset of psychological, social, financial, and physical state. Several macroeconomic factors are entangled with health and mortality. Infant mortality and life expectancy are two key guard on demographic research context on last few decades. On the other hand, foreign inflows play an unprecedent role for raising economic circulation and providing more opportunities to build a better society. The study aims to investigate the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI), economic growth, and Bangladesh's health. This study employs time-series data from 1980 to 2018. Results show, with Auto-regressive Distribute Lag (ARDL) model, that there is significant cointegration among variables. Foreign investment and economic output relate significantly and positively to health. On the contrary, education is quasi-linked with a different sign-on different model. For model validation, pitfalls of time-series multicollinearity, heteroscedasiticy, and autocorrelation are not present. Also, CUSUM and CUSUMSQ tests are validating the model as stable and fit for future prediction. Medical assessment and education need more attention from the government as well as the private sector. FDI can play a catalyst role for improving the health sector, raising opportunity in educating and creating a better lifestyle. In order to optimize foreign investment, the government should implement necessary reforms and policies.
