Corporate social responsibility and employee retention: an impact assessment of innovative leadership
(Scopus, 2024-11-28) Ullah, Attia Aman‐; Saraih, U.; Han, Heesup
Purpose This research aims to investigate the influence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on employee retention among banking employees in Pakistan, along with the moderating effect of innovative leadership on the relationship between CSR and employee retention. Design/methodology/approach The nature of this study is quantitative, where structured questionnaires were used to collect the data from 327 employees working in different banks. The sample size was calculated using the Krejice and Morgan model. Data was analysed through SPSS and smart-PLS 4. Findings Results of this study indicate that CSR has a significantly positive relationship with employee retention. Study results also suggest that innovative leadership has a significant positive relationship with employee retention and that innovative leadership moderates the relationship between CSR and employee retention. Research limitations/implications This study is limited to banking employees; therefore, future studies can be extended to other service sectors such as telecom and private educational institutions. This study model can also be tested in other industries as well. Furthermore, longitudinal studies can also be conducted in future. Originality/value This study is different from the previously available studies based on the following grounds. Firstly, this tests the relationship of CSR and employee retention through stakeholder and social exchange theories on a micro-level perspective of CSR. Secondly, the role of innovative readership as a moderator has not yet been explored in the existing studies, whereas this study is enriching the literature on this topic.

If You Don’t Care, I Will Switch: Online Retailers’ Behaviour on Third-Party Logistics Services
(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2023-05-04) Ngah, Abdul Hafaz; Thurasamy, Ramayah; Han, Heesup
Purpose The issue is which third-party logistics to engage, and escalating customer complaints about service quality of third-party logistics (3PL) enhances the tendency of online retailers to switch to another 3PL. The current study seeks to investigate the factors influencing the satisfaction and switching intention of 3PL services among online sellers in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach Applying a purposive sampling method, data were gathered via an online survey among online sellers. Initially, the system gathered 418 respondents, but only 311 were useable for further analysis. Since we operationalised the measures as composites, a combination of reflective and formative measurement in the study and the study focuses on explanatory and predictive purposes, partial least squares structural equation modelling with SmartPLS 4 was applied to test the model developed. Findings The results indicated that conflict handling had a positive effect on satisfaction, and satisfaction had a negative relationship with the switching intention of 3PL among the online retailers. Moreover, satisfaction and customer relationship management sequentially mediated conflict handling and switching intention, whereas CRM strengthens the negative relationship between satisfaction and switching intention. Research limitations/implications The respondents only limit to the online sellers in Malaysia which based on purposive sampling method, thus the findings cannot be generalised to another countries. Practical implications The study offers insightful information for the managers of the 3PL in crafting a better policy to avoid switching behaviour among their customers. The conflict between customers and providers is unavoidable since consumers have unlimited demand and businesses have limited resources. The findings also benefit online sellers and 3PL service providers to create attractive marketing strategies for business sustainability. Originality/value The study developed a new model for the 3PL studies using the S-O-R model in introducing conflict handling and customer relationship management as the stimulus, customer's satisfaction as an organism and switching intention as a response. The study introduced single and sequential mediators also contributes to the S-O-R theory to predict the switching intention among the online sellers towards the 3PL providers. Another important contribution, customer relationship management, was confirmed to play a moderating role to influence the relationship between satisfaction and switching intention."

Understanding the moderating role of chronotypes for online mobile gaming in-app purchase intention
(Scopus, 2024-09) Tariq, Beenish; Ramayah, Thurasamy; Griffiths, Mark D.; Montes, Antonio Ariza; Han, Heesup
In the highly dynamic and fast growing online mobile gaming industry, revenue streams are the most important for the game developers. One of the significant ways to generate revenues is to boost the in-app purchases by gamers. Using Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework, the present study modelled addiction, loyalty and in-app purchases with chronotypes (a biological disposition) as a moderator. The study posited that loyalty is one of the significant mediators to convert addiction into in-app purchases. For the present study, 345 university students completed a survey, and the data were analyzed via SmartPLS using multigroup analysis. The moderation of chronotypes (a biological disposition) and mediation of loyalty for in-app purchase intention were tested and supported by the results. The study suggested that evening type individuals had a higher tendency to be loyal towards online mobile gaming compared to morning type individuals. Moreover, evening type individuals had higher inclination toward in-app purchase intention compared to morning type individuals. Loyalty functioned as a mediator between addiction and in-app purchase intention. The present study is one of the first to investigate the role of chronotypes as moderator and loyalty as a mediator for online mobile gaming in-app purchase intention utilizing the SOR framework. From a practitioners’ perspective, the present study highlighted a loyal segment of gamers who is more inclined to make in-app purchases. In addition, it highlights a dilemma for gaming operators to balance revenue generation with the well-being of its clientele.
