Item ADVERSE EFFECTS OF TRADITIONAL BRICKFIELD ON AGRICULTURE(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2022) HOSSAIN, MD. SHAHADATThe purposes of the study were to assess the adverse effect of traditional brickfield on agriculture; to compare item-wise effects of traditional brickfields; to describe some selected characteristics of the farmers and to explore the relationships between each of the selected characteristics of the respondents to their perceived effects of traditional brickfields on agriculture. The study was undertaken purposively in Sadarpur upazila under Faridpur district. Validated and well-structured interview schedule was used to collect data from 96 farmers during 15 November to 14 December, 2022. The highest proportion (61.5%) of the farmers perceived medium effects as compare to 3.1 percent perceived low effects and 35.4 percent perceived high effects of traditional brickfield on agriculture. On the basis of SEI, it was observed that “reducing top fertile soil” ranked first followed by “reducing crop production area”, “reducing biodiversity”, “reducing crop production”, “reducing local forest and trees area”, and “reducing livestock production”, “reducing fisheries production” and “reducing poultry production” were the least effects of traditional brickfield on agriculture. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation revealed that education, farm size, annual family income and agricultural farming experience of the farmers had positive significant relationship with their perceived adverse effects of traditional brickfield on agriculture. Based on the findings, it is recommended that traditional brickfield should be stopped or transfer to eco-friendly brick manufacturing to reduce the adverse effects of traditional brickfield on agriculture.Item EFFECTS OF FERTILIZERS AND MANURES WITH DIFFERENT IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT ON TILE YIELD AND NUTRIENT CONCENTRATION IN BRRI dhan29(Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University., 2013-12) HOSSAIN, MD. SHAHADATThe experiment was conducted in the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period from December 2012 to May 2013 know the effect of fertilizers and manures with different irrigation management on the yield and nutrient concentration in BRRI dhan29. The experiment consisted of 2 factors I. e. irrigation and fertilizer plus manure. Three levels of irrigations (11 = Continuous flooding, 1,= saturated condition and 13 = Alternate wetting and drying) were used with 8 levels of fertilizers plus manures, such as To : Control, T1: N1 20P2 K60S29Zn2 (Recommended dose). '12: 50% NPKSZn + 5 ton cowdung ha". T3: 70% NPKSZn + 3 ton cowdung ha". T4: 50% NPKSZn + 5 ton compost ha". T5: 70% NPKSZn + 3 ton compost ha". T6: SO% NPKSZn+ 3.5 ton poultry manure ha" and T7: 70% NPKSZn ± 2.1 ton poultry manure were used. At the harvest, the yield parameters and total yield were recorded; the irrigation had no significant single effect on the yield and yield parameters while the highest yield was obtained from continuous flooded condition. The yield contributing characters and yields were significantly affected by fertilizer and manure. The highest grain yield and straw yield were found from Recommended dose of fertilizer though it was statistically similar with 70% NPKSZn-t-2.1 ton poultry manure/ha treatment and lowest in control treatment. The yield parameters were not significantly influenced by combined application of irrigation and fertilizer. Though the highest grain yield (7.36 t/ha) was recorded from Alternate wetting and drying with 70% NPKSZn+2.1 ton poultry manure/ha. Irrigation significantly influenced the grain nutrient concentration except K concentration. The higher levels of P and K concentration were recorded from Alternate wetting and drying treatment. The grain nutrient concentrations of I3RRI dhan29 were significantly affected by the application of fertilizers and manures. The higher grain nutrient concentrations were found in the treatments where lCrtilizers were used in combination with poultry manure. The highest P concentration in grain was recorded from alternate wetting and drying with 50% NPKSZn ± 3.5 ton poultry manure ha". The higher concentrations of grain K and S were found in the treatments where fertilizers were used in combination with poultry manure.Item GROWTH AND YIELD ATTRIBUTES OF RICE AS INFLUENCED BY ZINC AND BORON(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2017-06) HOSSAIN, MD. SHAHADAT; Professor Dr. Md. Sohidul IslamThe experiment was conducted at the research field, Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh during January to April, 2017. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The experiment was consisted of two factors viz. factor A: B1 = 0 kg B ha-1, B2 = 5 kg B ha-1, B3 = 10 kg B ha-1 and B4 = 15 kg B ha-1 , and Factor B: Zn1 = 0 kg Zn ha-1, Zn2 = 10 kg Zn ha-1 , Zn3 = 15 kg Zn ha-1, and Zn4 = 20 kg Zn ha-1. Data were recorded on different growth and yield contributing parameters. Most of the parameters showed significant difference among the treatment. Results indicated that the highest plant height (92.91 cm), panicle length (28.30 cm), number of filled grain panicle-1 (186.1), number of total grain panicle-1 (203.1), grain yield (4.93 t ha-1), and harvest index (35.69%) was recorded from B3Zn3. Whereas the highest values of number of non-effective tiller hill-1 (8.25) and number of un-filled grain panicle-1 (31.00) were recorded from the treatment combination of 0 kg B ha-1 and 0 kg Zn ha-1 i.e. B1Zn1 treatment. At 50, 60 and 70 DAT, the highest grain growth rate (0.029, 0.032 and 0.0390 g) was found from the treatment combination of B3Zn3 (10 kg B ha-1 and 15 kg Zn ha-1), whereas the lowest grain growth rate (0.011, 0.019 and 0.0130g) was observed from the treatment combination of B1Zn1 (0 kg B ha-1 and 0 kg Zn ha-1) at same DAT. The treatment combination (B3Zn3) performed better for increasing the grain growth and yield of Tia rice.Item INVESTIGATION OF GLYOXALASES IN Brassica spp UNDER ABIOTIC STRESS AND PURIFICATION OF GLYOXALASE-I(Department of Biotechnology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2014-12) HOSSAIN, MD. SHAHADATThis study was carried out in the Molecular Breeding Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur during the period from March, 2014 to March, 2015 to investigate the role of Glyoxalase system in contrast plants of Brassica spp. Ten prescreened genotypes were subjected to test the variation among them with 5 known SSR markers, and among them, E5 (Tori 7) and E6 (BARI sarisha 16) were selected based on their variation. The comparative phenotyping study of E5 and E6 under salinity and drought stress revealed that E6 is more tolerant than E5 in both stresses. To investigate the responses of Glyoxalase-I (Gly-I) and Glyoxalase-II (Gly-II) in detoxification of methylglyoxal (MG) under salinity and drought stress, 5 day old Brassica seedlings were subjected to impose NaCl-induced salinity level (16dS/m) and drought stress and data were observed at 2 day, 4 day and 6 day of stress. The contents of (MG) increased 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 fold over control under salinity at 2, 4 and 6 day, respectively in E6 and 0.5, 0.3 and 0.6 fold in E5. On the other hand, in drought stress, methylglyoxal (MG) level increased 2, 3 and 3.5 fold over control at 2, 4 and 6 day, respectively in E6 and 2, 2.5 and 3 fold in E5. Under salinity stress, Gly-I activity increased by 41%, 69% and 105% in E6, at 2, 4 and 6 day, respectively, whereas 12%, 43% and 41% in E5. On the contrary, in drought stress, Gly-I activity increased by 70%, 76% and 61% over control at 2, 4 and 6 day, respectively in E6, and 37%, 32% and 53% in E5. In E6, Gly-II activity increased 144%, 128% and 101% at 2, 4 and 6 day of salinity stress, respectively in E6, and 52%, 59% and 50% in E5. Notably, concomitant increased activities of Gly-I and Gly-II with increased MG suggested their MG detoxification role in Brassica Spp. At the same time, it was remarkable that both Gly-I and Gly-II activities were higher in E6, and hence, Gly-I was purified from E6 seedlings. In purification, Gly-I were found to be highly purified and migrated as a single band on SDS-PAGE with an apparent molecular mass of 27 kDa in silver staining and coumassie brilliant blue staining with purification fold of 113 and recovery of 0.38%. iiiItem PERFORMANCE OF HOUSEHOLD SOLID WASTE COMPOST ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF STEM AMARANTH (Amaranthus cruentus L.)(DEPARTMENT OF AGROFORESTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, 2021) HOSSAIN, MD. SHAHADATHousehold solid waste (HSW) can be managed in an environmentally feasible way by preparing compost and using them to produce organic vegetables in kitchen yard or rooftop garden for family consumption. An experiment was conducted at the Agroforestry Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period of 27 March to 16 May, 2020 to study the performance of Household Solid Waste Compost (HSWC) with five levels viz., T 0 (no compost), T 1 ii (20% compost), T 2 (40% compost) and T 3 (50% compost) and also T 4 which was 100% RDF (Recommended Dose of Fertilizer) on the growth and yield of stem amaranth. The one factor experiment was laid out in Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The maximum plant height 74.15 cm, plant diameter 1.89 cm, green yield per plant 166 gm were observed in T 4 at 50 DAS. The minimum plant height 21.67 cm, plant diameter 1.06 cm, green yield per plant 48.66 gm were obtained from T 0 at 50 DAS. The performance of HSW Compost was determined by the experiment among T 1 , T 2 and T 3 where treatment T 2 produced maximum plant height by producing 71.33 cm of plant height, diameter 1.89 cm, leaves number 36.83 and green yield was 160gm. In cases of seed germination, stem diameter, leaf number, green weight and dry weight T 4 and T 2 were statistically similar and T 1 , T 2 and T 3 showed significant positive effect compared to T 0 . So treatment T 2 is preferable for organic cultivation in homestead or rooftop garden.Item PREVALENCE OF DIFFERENT DISEASES OF CATTLE IN SELECTED DAIRY FARMS AT RAIPURA UPAZILA, NARSINGDI(DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE & PUBLIC HEALTH, 2021) HOSSAIN, MD. SHAHADATThe study was conducted to ascertain the prevalence of different diseases of dairy cattle in selected dairy farms at Raipura upazila, Narsingdi. It was conducted during the period from January to December, 2021. During the study period a total of 25 owners or attendants were interviewed and an entire of 200 cattle were examined and analyzed where 44 were identified with different diseases. Each of the clinical case was diagnosed on the basis of history, general examination, physical examination and clinical findings. The overall prevalence of different diseases was 22 % in study area. Among the clinical cases, mastitis 13.63% was the highest in all recorded cases. Furthermore, Lumpy Skin Disease 11.36%, Foot and Mouth Disease 9.1%, pneumonia 6.82%, bloat 6.82%, navel ill 6.82%, bovine ephemeral fever 4.54%, diarrhea 4.54%, endoparasitic infestation 4.54%, acidosis 2.27% and retained placenta 2.27% etc. were also commonly recorded. It was noted that local breed (68.18%) were highly susceptible for different diseases and disorders than cross breed (31.82%) cattle. In relation to age, >3 years aged cattle (43.18%) were found more infected with diseases as compared with 1-4 years aged cattle (31.82%) and <1year aged (25%) cattle. Among the seasonal cases, summer season (40.91%) had higher prevalence of different diseases of dairy cattle than rainy season (34.1%) followed by winter season (25%) in study area. From the study it was evident that dairy in study area cattle were infected with different diseases and caused a huge economic losses to farmers. Immunoprophylaxis and hygienic management should be initiated to curb the prevalence of common diseases in dairy cattle. So further epidemiological and laboratory study should be needed to confirm the etiology, prevention and control measures of the diseases in dairy cattle at study area.
