ADOPTION OF MODERN HIGH YIELDING VARIETIES (HYV) OF WHEAT BY THE FARMERS
(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION & INFORMATION SYSTEM, 2007) HOSSAIN, MD. KAMAL
The purpose of the study was to determine the extent of adoption of modem HYV wheat by the farmers and to explore the relationships between farmers' selected characteristics and their adoption of modem l IYV wheat. Joydebpur Purashava and Basan union of Gazipur Sadar upazila and Kaoraid union of Sreepur upazila under Gazipur distrct were the locales of the study. Data were collected by using interview schedule from 110 farmers selected randomly during 20 October to 20 November, 2007. The finding revealed that a large proportion (44.5 percent) of the farmers/wheat growers had low adoption of modem HYV wheat as compared to 36.4 percent medium adoption and 19.l percent high adoption respectively. Computed coefficient of correlation (r) values indicated that seven out of ten characteristics of the farmers namely, farm size, family income, agricultural training, attitude towards modem HYV wheal cultivation, innovativeness, contact with different media and knowledge on wheat cultivation had significant positive relationship with their adoption of modem HYV wheat. On the other hand, other three characteristics of the farmers namely, age, education and non-localite behaviour had no significant relationship with their adoption of modem HYV wheat. Ten problems of the farmers were identified which they confronted frequently during modem HYV wheat cultivation. Five major problems in descending order of Problem Confrontation Index (PCI) were: (i) high price of fertilizer, (ii) high price of seeds, (iii) lack of HYV wheat seeds in the market. (iv) scarcity of fertilizer supply in time and (v) requires high amount of fertilizer in H YV wheat crops.

HETEROSIS AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH GENETIC ATTRIBUTES USING LINE X TESTER MATING IN RICE (Oryza sativa L.)
(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA, BANGLADESH, 2008-12) HOSSAIN, MD. KAMAL
An investigation was carried out to assess the combining ability effects. heteroses from parent.,; and their hybrids during November. 2007 to November. 2008 at Bangladesh Rice research Institute (BRRI). Gazipur. The analysis of variances were carried oul for 14 agronomic and yield related characters indicated that the genotypes were differed significantly From each other for all the characters studied. Combining ability studies revealed that the specific combining ability (SCA) effects were higher that and general combining ability (GCA) effect for most of the traits except panicle length. primary branch panicle4, spikelet panicle-1 and spikelet fertility which indicated that importance of both additive and non-additive gene actions were governing the inheritance on the coneerncd traits but the non-additive gene action were prcdominant. Among the CMS lines BRRI3A produced significant and desirable OCA effects for shorter plant height. earliness, tiller hill', panicle length (cm) and number of tmicles mete(2 which was considered as a good general combiner for these traits concerned. Similarly, the restorer BRRII2R identi fled as the best general combiner for shorter plant height, earliness and number tiller hill' and the an other restorer line I3RRI I 7R selected as the best general combiner due to their desirable and significant (WA effects for spikelet fertility (%) 1000-grain weight and yield plant". Result indicated that the hybrid combinations 1R73328A113R736. 1132A/BR736R. BRRI I 0Afi3R6723-i - 1-2k and 1132A1BR6839-41-5-IR were found as the best specific combiner for yield plant-'. spikelet fertility (%) and 1000-grain weight for their highly significant and positive SCA values. Ihe combinations IJRRI3A/I3RRI I 7R. 1R73328A/BR6723- I-I -2R, BRRI9A/BR6839-41 -5-I R 13RR1 1 OA/RRI 68R and 1132A/BR827R were also identified as good specific combiner for shorter plant height and earliness due to their significant and negative SCA effects. On the other hand. the hybrids: BRRI3A/13RRJ 12R. BRRI3A/BRRI I 7R. I3RRI9eVBRRII OR. BRRI9A'BRRI 12R and I3RRI9AJBRRII7R manifested significant and desirable heterosis over mid parent. better parent and over standard checks For grain yield plant'. 1000-grain weight, plant height, days to 50% flowering and days to maturity, therefore, these hybrids combinations were selected as the best performer among the combinations evaluated in this study. Considering the character association studies, it was observed that out of 227 significant and desirable SCA effects 69 were produced by High x Low OCA parental conibination, where as the maximum number of heterotic crosses were evolved from I-ugh x Average OCA parental combination for both mid-parent and better parent heterosis.

INFLUENCE OF FERTILIZER AND PLANT POPULATION ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SUMMER MUNGBEAN (Vigna radiata L)
(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2007) HOSSAIN, MD. KAMAL
An experiment was carried out at the Agronomy Field. Sher-e-BangLa Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from March to June, 2006 to study the influence of bio-fertilizer and plant population on growth, and yield of mungbean (Vigna radiata). The experiment consisted of two levels of treatments viz, a). inoculation (No inoculation, BINA-MB 441 and BINA-MB-THA 301)and h). plant population (10,20,30.40 and 50 plants m 2 ). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (Factorial) with three replications. The results revealed that BINA-MB 441 performed the best. The highest seed yield (1.20 t h a t), number of nodules plant", dry weight of nodules plant", number of pods plant 4 , number of seeds pod1 , weight of 1000 seeds, seed yield plant", straw yield and harvest index were attained from BINA-MB 441. Plant population also significantly influenced all crop characters studied. The results revealed that 30 plants rn'2 showed the best performance in respect of seed yield (1.25 t ha") than other plant population treatment. The highest number of nodules plant" (10.44), number of pods plant" (14.26), number of seeds pod" (30.23). weight of 1000 seeds (47.54 g) and seed yield plant" (5.61 g) were obtained from 10 plants m' whereas the highest plant height, LA! (2.31) and straw yield (3.65 t ha") were found in 50 plants rn' 2 . Combination of BINA-MB 441 with 30 plants rn'2 was found to be the best in respect of seed yield and straw yield. Combinution or I3INA-M 13 441 with 10 plants in' 2 was found the hcsL in respect of number of nodules plant" (13.32), number of pods (16.69), number of seeds pod" (32.24), weight of 1000 seeds (50.71 g) and seed yield plant" (6.98 g) whereas significantly the highest plant height, leaf area index (2.99) and straw yield (3.97 ha") were found in B[NA-MB 441 with 50 plants rn' 2

PBL survive and thrive in such a competitive banking world, two important requirements are development of appropriate financial infrastructure by the central bank and development of “professionalism” in the sense of developing an appropriate manpower structure and its expertise and experience.PBL has contributed in the economy of the country through their dedicated services, business partnership and customer care over the last fifty years. They have seen enormous changes over the period and have continued to keep on adopting to changes their journey ahead. They has been widely acclaimed by the business communicate from small entrepreneurs to large traders and industrial conglomerates. PBL conducts all types of commercial banking activities. The bank involve in most of the areas of commercial banking operation. PBL has acted as the lead arranger in raising term loan for a number of projects under syndicate finance and also participate in some case under such financing arrangement. They also providing personal credit, service related to local and foreign remittances and several other products.PBL entered the market at a time when economic policy environment of the country is poised for higher levels of business activities and growth. The prevailing macroeconomic management and government’s determination to carry on reforms in the banking sector provide a supporting and encouraging environment. But since 2008 to 2012 Pubali Bank found that there are several problem which may responsible for employee turnover which mostly happen in general Banking and others department as well. And the fact which may affect Pubali Bank is my research study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of organizational culture and measures of job satisfaction as applied to executives of private banks. Another purpose of this study was to determine whether perceptions of different employees are different about organizational culture and job satisfaction or not. Based of the previous relevant research studies 7 factors were identified for both organizational culture and job satisfaction. This study operationally defined culture in terms of supervisor support, communication, rules and policies and rewards & benefits. The data were collected through the distribution of a standardized questionnaire among 130 employees through a stratified random sampling. Validity of the scale was ensured using factor analysis. Data was analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. Data was collected through personally administered questionnaires based of 13 questions from the 7 branches of banks under consideration. 10 questions were related to organizational culture and the 03 questions were used to investigate the impact of organizational culture on job satisfaction. Where multiple Regression analysis was used to testing the impact of 7 factors of organizational culture of job satisfaction. The result shows that as cultural factors-supportiveness, reward system, compatibility, security, and privacy, leadership style, subordinate attitude and communication structure make a significant impact on job satisfaction. It must be needed for all organizations to give emphasis on reward system because it is very effective way for increasing employee’s satisfaction level.
