Item EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SAWDUST AND EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SUBSTRATE ON THE GROWTH, YIELD AND PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF SHIITAKE MUSHROOM (Lentinus edudes)(Dept. of Biochemistry, 2016-07) HOSSAIN, MD. IQBALFive different sawdust viz. Teak tree (Tectona grandis), Mango tree (Mangifera indica), White siris (Albizia procer), Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Timber tree (Anogeissus latifolia) sawdust supplemented with 12% wheat bran and 1% as basal substrate were selected for studies their performance on growth, yield and proximate composition of shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edudes). The highest mycelium growth rate (4.23 mm/day) was recorded in Le 11 with 1000g of spawn packet The highest time (114.80 days) required to completion of mycelium running was obtained from the treatment completion of strain Le 12 with 1000g spawn packet. The highest time (149.30 days) required for bump formation was obtained from the treatment combination of strain Le 11 with 1000g spawn packet. The highest time (16.50 days) required from opening to first harvest was obtained from the treatment combination of strain Le 12 with 1000g spawn packet. The highest diameter (10.38 cm) of pileus was recorded from the treatment combination of Le 8 with 1000g weight of spawn packet. The highest average number of primordial per packet was recorded from MT (66.45), The highest average length of stripe was recorded from MT (1.60). The highest average thickness of pileus was recorded from KT (0.70), The highest amount of nitrogen content was recorded in MT (6.78%). The highest amount of potassium was attained from MT (1.98%), The highest amount of iron was recorded from MT (625.23ppm). The highest amount of zinc was obtained from KT (9.67%). Therefore, it can be concluded that mango tree sawdust supplemented with 12% wheat bran can be further used as a better substrate for shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edudes) production reducing cost and increasing the yield and nutritional quality.Item EFFECTS OF PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS ON FERTILITY AND PHYLOGENIC INFERENCE OF FERTILITY GENES IN INDIGENOUS SHEEP OF BANGLADESH(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND ANIMAL BREEDING FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE CHITTAGONG VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY CHITTAGONG, 2018-06) HOSSAIN, MD. IQBALThe study was carried out to know the effects of protein supplementations on fertility and inference of fertility genes. Three iso-caloric but different graded levels of protein containing rations were feed to three different groups of sheep. For molecular study, DNA was extracted from the whole blood sample for PCR of GDF9 and BMP15 fertility genes and purified PCR products were sequenced with the help of Sanger sequencer. Sequence alignment, pair and multi-alignment comparison of the BMP15 and GDF9 gene were performed with MEGA6 software. The semen volume, sperm counts, percentages of normal and viable sperm were higher in Treatment 2 than the other two treatments. Ewes treated with supplemented, protein concentrate reached conception at earlier age (Treatment 1, 7.4±0.09 months and Treatment 2, 6.67±0.18 months) than control (8.37± 0.15 months). Conception rate was significantly higher in treated groups than control group. The gestation length and lambing interval were significantly higher in control (155.25±4.1 days, 188.25±2.3 days, respectively) than treated groups. Lamb’s birth weights of three groups were ranged from 1.11 to 1.55 kg. The designated sequences of BMP15 gene and GDF9 gene were revealed 100% homology with the sequence of Pelibuey sheep. In addition, the sequences of BMP15 gene showed 99% similarity with the Balochi and Lohi breed of sheep and GDF9 gene asserted that sequences were 95% harmonious with the Awassi breed. The evolutionary divergences in indigenous sheep ranged from 0.00 to 3.35 for BMP15 gene and 0.00 to 0.77 for GDF9 gene with clear differences within indigenous sheep. In the phylogenetic tree nucleotide sequence of BMP15 was closely related with Pelibuey sheep and Rahmani sheep breed had strong association with GDF9. Jukes-Cantor (JC) model designed with the 3866.36 BIC score and Kimura 2-parameter model carried 6222.80 BIC score were the best fitted models for BMP15 gene and GDF9 gene, respectively. The overall nucleotide frequencies of BMP15 were 27.87% (A), 26.34% (T/U), 21.70% (C), and 24.10% (G) and GDF9 were 20.22% (A), 26.32% (T/U), 27.91% (C) and 25.54% (G), respectively. The study indicated that the influence of nutrition on reproductive performance and these genomic inceptions will be open a new era in the indigenous sheep production of Bangladesh.Item PREVALENCE OF VARIOUS CLINICAL DISEASES AND DISORDERS IN GOATS AT CHANDINA UPAZILLA IN COMILLA DISTRICT(A Clinical report presented in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), 2015-12) HOSSAIN, MD. IQBALThe impending study was conducted at Chandina Upazilla Veterinary Hospital(CUVH), Comilla District to determine the clinical prevalence of goat diseases and disorders, over two months period starting from January to march 2015.A total of 70 cases were recorded , where the goat diseases were categorized into two classes ,namely infectious and non infectious diseases. The particular conditions have been clinically determined tentatively and also confirmatory simply by the help of history, clinical signs, indications and microscopically. The prevalence of goat diseases were infectious diseases 22.86% (bacterial 4.29%, viral 4.29%, parasitic 14.29%) and non infectious diseases 77.14% (reproductive 4.29%, surgical 21.43%, nutritional 7.14%, others 44.28% ) respectively. The Mean Standard error of calcium in hypocalcemic goat is 7.42±0.35 mg/dl.Item Reproductive performance comparison between local and crossbred sows reared under backyard and farming condition(A production Report submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF VETERINARY MEDICINE, CHITTAGONG VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY, KHULSHI, CHITTAGONG., 2015-12) HOSSAIN, MD. IQBALIt is imperious to know the reproductive parameters of the subsisting swine breed for profitable farming in Bangladesh. This study was designed to compare the reproductive parameters of sows at hilly areas between the local and crossbred at farm and backyard level. A total of 116 breedable sows were included. The data on age at puberty, litter size, birth weight, weaning weight, gestation length, interval between farrowing and number of piglets born per sow in local and crossbred sows were determined and direct questionnaire method was used for data collection. The present study revealed that age at puberty between farm and backyard system of crossbred sows was 8.88±0.153 and 9.85±0.221 months, respectively. The farrowing interval was shorter in crossbred sows which were kept in farming system rather than backyard system. The interval between farrowing and onset of estrus was shorter in crossbred sows. The gestation length was almost similar between backyard and farm condition. The number of litter size per sow per farrowing was 8.45±0.41 in crossbred and 7.17±0.250 in local pigs at backyard system. The birth weight and weaning weight were more in farm conditions than backyard system. The age at puberty in local breed was lower than the crossbred and litter size was 8.45±0.407 in crossbred which was higher than local breed 7.17±0.250 in backyard system. These results suggest that reproductive parameters of local sow need to be improved for better production and crossbred sows should be reared for obtaining desired productivity.Item ROLE OF HONEYBEE AS A POLLINATOR IN CONTRIBUTING YIELD OF MUSTARD(DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA., 2016-06) HOSSAIN, MD. IQBALThe experiment was conducted at the research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period from November, 2016 to February, 2017. The experiment was consisted of three (3) different strategies of pollination of mustard flowers viz., T1= Open field (Control), T2= Netting with honey bee and T3= Netting without honey bee. BARI sharisha-8 (Brassica Juncea L.) was used as planting material. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was selected to lay out the present experiment with 7 replications. Result demonstrated that honey bee was the most abundant hymenopterans in the mustard field as a pollinator. The growth, yield and yield contributing traits were significantly influenced by different strategies of pollination by honey bee. The maximum (3.50 g) 1000-seed weight was recorded from treatment T2 followed by T1 (3.10 g) and the lowest 1000-seed weight (2.68 g) was recorded from T3. The highest seed yield (2.45 t ha-1) was exhibited from treatment T2 followed by T1 (2.30 t ha-1) whereas the lowest seed yield (1.67 t ha-1) was recorded from T3. Finally; it can be concluded that, netting with honey bee was the best one for maximum pollination for obtaining better yield of mustard.
