Item EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND SULPHUR ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF T. AMAN RICE (BRRI dhan87)(DEPARTMENT OF SOIL SCIENCE, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, SHER-E-BANGLA NAGAR, DHAKA, 2020-12) HOSSAIN, MD. BELALThe experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207 to study the effect of nitrogen and Sulphur on the growth and yield of T. Aman rice (BRRI Dhan 87) during the period from July, 2019 to December, 2019. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications of each treatment and Plant parameters (growth, yield and yield components) and plant analysis data were subjected to statistical analysis through computer based statistical Program STAR (Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research), developed at IRRI. Means were compared by DMRT at 5% level of probability. The experiment consisted of single factor with six treatments such as T 1 : Control (0 kg Nitrogen & 0 kg Sulphur per ha), T 2 :N 60 S 0 (60 kg Nitrogen & 0 kg Sulphur per ha), T 3 :N 90 S 0 (90 kg Nitrogen & 0 kg Sulphur per ha),T 4 :N 120 S 0 (120 kg Nitrogen & 0 kg Sulphur per ha), T 5 (0 kg Nitrogen & 12 kg Sulphur per ha), T 6 : N 60 S 12 (60 kg Nitrogen & 12 kg Sulphur per ha), T 7 :N 90 S 12 (90 kg Nitrogen & 12 kg Sulphur per ha), T 8 :N 120 S 12 (120 kg Nitrogen & 12 kg Sulphur per ha), T 9 :N 0 S 16 (0 kg Nitrogen & 16 kg Sulphur per ha), T 10 (60 kg Nitrogen & 16 kg Sulphur per ha), T 11 :N 90 S 16 (90 kg Nitrogen & 16 kg Sulphur per ha) and T 12 :N 120 S 16 (120 kg Nitrogen & 16 kg Sulphur per ha). The combination of N 120 S 12 (120 kg Nitrogen & 12 kg Sulphur per ha) showed the best result in case of, plant height, leaf length, number of effective tiller per hill, number of effective tillers per hill, panicle length (cm), number of grains per panicle, number of filled grain per panicle, 1000-grain weight (g), grain yield (t ha -1 ), straw yield (t ha ), organic matter, Nitrogen and phosphorus content in post harvest soil. So, it can be concluded that the treatment T 8 (120 kg Nitrogen & 12 kg Sulphur per ha) is the best for T. Aman rice (BRRI Dhan87) cultivation during the Aman season. -1 :N 0 :N 60 S 12 S 16Item EFFICIENCY OF SOME CHEMICAL INSECTICIDES IN CONTROLLING MUSTARD APHID AND THEIR IMPACT ON PREDATORY LADY BIRD BEETLE(DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA., 2015-06) HOSSAIN, MD. BELALThe study was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the Rabi season 2014-2015 to evaluate the effectiveness of some promising insecticides on aphid population abundance as well as their impacts on the incidence of predatory lady bird beetle in field and laboratory condition. The treatments composed of five chemical insecticides viz., foliar spray of Morter 48 EC (chlorpyrifos) @ 1 ml/L of water, Imitaf 20 SL (imidacloprid) @ 1 ml/L of water, Marshal 20 EC (carbosulfan) @ 1 ml/L of water, Ripcord 10 EC (cypermethrin) @ 1 ml/L of water, Diaraz 60 EC (diazinon) @ 1 ml/L of water and an untreated control. Among five insecticides, Imitaf 20 SL performed as the most effective insecticide in reducing the highest percent of aphid population on leaves (60.00%) whereas Ripcord 10 EC showed the least performance (39.54%). In inflorescence, Morter 48 EC performed as the most effective insecticide in reducing the highest percent of aphid population (68.06%) whereas Imitaf 20 SL showed the least performance (53.57%). In stem, Ripcord 10 EC performed as the most effective insecticide in reducing the highest percent of aphid population (62.69%) whereas Diaraz 60 EC showed the least performance (57.73%). In pod, Imitaf 20 SL performed as the most effective insecticide in reducing the highest percent of aphid population (61.11%) whereas Ripcord 10 EC showed the least performance (58. 22%). Under field condition Ripcord 10 EC reduced the highest number of lady bird beetle population, the percent reduction was (63.74%) and the least reduction was performed by Imitaf 20 SL (55.56%). In laboratory condition the highest percent of aphid reduction performed by Imitaf 20 SL (90.00%) and the least performance was Diaraz 60 EC (66.67%) as it was the highest percent of lady bird beetle reduction performed by Imitaf 20 SL (44.00%) and the least performance by Ripcord 10 EC was (28.67%). The maximum yield obtained from treatment Imitaf 20 SL (812 kg/ha) due to lower aphid abundance. On the other hand, low yield performance obtained from the T6 treatment due to an untreated control (310.2 kg/ha).Item MANAGEMENT· OF FUSARIUM AND NEMIC WILTS OF TOMATO BY GRAFTING, SOIL AMENDMENT, CHEMICALS AND BIO-AGENT(DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY, 2006) HOSSAIN, MD. BELALEfficacy of eight selected treatments viz. Grafting (Ti), Furadan 5G (T2), Bavistin (T3), Cupravit (T4), Trichoderma harzianum (Ts), Sawdust (T6), Khudepana (T7) and Control (T8) were assessed against Fusarium . oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici and Meloidogyne incognita for management of wilt diseases of tomato during winter season of 2005-2006 at the farm, allotted for the Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAO), Dhaka. Significant differences were observed among the treatments in terms of wilt incidence, root gall incidence, plant growth and fruit yield. Application of Sawdust (T6), Furadan 5G (Ts) arid Grafting (Ti) showed the highest effect against the wilt pathogens where no wilt and gall incidence were observed even at 85 days after transplanting. The plant growth was influenced ahd fruit yield were increased by 206.67%, 115.12% and 103.66%, respectively for Sawdust (T6), Grafting (TI) and Furadan 5G (T2) over control. Bavistin (T3), Trichoderma harzianum (Ts) and Khudepana (T7) also gave better performance against the disease, while Cupravit (T4) showed least performance in comparison to control. Cost analysis showed that Sawdust resulted the highest BCR (8.57) followed by grafting (7.65) and Furadan 5G (7.16).
