    Design And Implementation Of Iot Based Monitoring And Controlling System For Electrical Load And Renewable Energy Source

    Electricity is an important ingredient for socioeconomic development of a society. In households electricity has an impact on living standard, health, education and so many. IoT is an automated computer system, an Internet-connected entity capable of storing and transmitting data without human interaction through the WIFI network. Bangladesh has energy shortage, but renewable energy, on the other hand has tremendous promise. To satisfy the rising demand for electricity, renewable energy could be a potential solution. Among several renewable sources we integrated foot step energy from piezoelectric sensor and solar energy conversion system to operate the electrical loads. Arduino Nano is used for programming purpose. IOT is implemented to monitor real time energy usage by electrical loads in kilowatt-hour (unit) rating and calculate the cost of consumed energy. By using IOT we can also control the whole system via a website. After the connection of all the components with Arduino Nano , the power is delivered to the Arduino and simultaneously the Wi-Fi module is powered. Then a connection is established between Wi-Fi module and access point through which can upload and access the sensor value over internet. The control taken through the user are send by Arduino Nano and uploaded over the cloud server, then from the cloud server the controller retrieves the data through Wi-Fi module and performs the required action, depending on the control signal provided by the user. Hardware based system has been developed and found the system works well. However, access to it has been difficult in our countries due to different reasons, cost being one of them. This project proposes a low-cost small electrical loads controlling and monitoring system using IoT that can benefit the user . This system have features that we can use for better control and monitor the electrical loads using sensor networks and communications, real time power consumption and pricing reduced operations and management cost , increased the efficiency by saving time and reducing power loss. This project will also expand the deployment of renewable energy sources.

    DETECTION OF MICROPLASTIC FROM THREE IMPORTANT CRAB SPECIES FROM THE COAST OF BANGLADESH

    In this study, the abundances and characteristics of microplastics in different tissues of three species of wild crabs (Scylla olivacea, Portunus pelagicus, and Portonus sanguinolentus) were investigated across three important fishing grounds (Chattagram, Cox’s Bazar and Saint Martin Island region) of Bangladesh. Each region consists of three distinct fishing grounds. The result of the study showed that the highest detection of microplastics was recorded in Cox’s Bazar followed by Saint Martin and Chattagram. The crab species Scylla olivacea and Portunus pelagicus were most abundant in Cox’s Bazar and Chattagram while Portonus sanguinolentus in Cox’s Bazar and Saint Martin Island. The microplastics size was also varied among the crab samples. Comparatively larger microplastics were recorded in the crab samples in Chattagram region. Black coloured microplastics were the most prominent in gill and guts of the samples (45.45% and 42.37%, respectively). Among various types of shapes about (56.92%) of thread was most abundance in gill where thread was (53.33%) in gut. The 50% gill tissue showed fragment microplastics followed by microbead (6.25%). The 49.18% gut tissue showed microbead microplastics followed by fibre (8.20%). Overall, the study reported that the distribution pattern, abundance, size, color and shape of microplastics in the studied crab samples which will ultimately help the biologist to get insight into the plastic pollution in marine ecosystems by taking crabs as model species.

    GROWTH AND NUTRITIONAL QUALITY OF TOMATO IN RESPONSE TO HUMIC ACID AND SALICYLIC ACID

    The field experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during October 2017 to April 2018 to find out the response of humic acid and salicylic acid on growth and nutritional quality of tomato. Four different doses of humic acid viz., H 0 = 0 ppm, H 1 = 20 ppm, H 2 = 40 ppm, H 3 = 80 ppm and four doses of salicylic acid viz., S 0 = 0 ppm, S 1 = 30 ppm, S 2 = 70 ppm, S 3 = 110 ppm were used to conduct this experiment. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design having two factors. Humic acid and salicylic acid showed significant variations with most of the parameters studied. The maximum number of flowers per plant (38.58), number of fruit per plant (27.42), yield of fruits per plant (2.90 kg) were found at 80 ppm humic acid treatment while the lowest result found in control. The maximum number of flowers per plant (38.12), number of fruit per plant (27.83) and yield of fruits per plant (2.95 kg) were found in 70 ppm salicylic acid treatment. The highest total sugar (4.40%), sodium (8.20%) and lycopene content (5 mg/100g) in fruit were found in 80 ppm humic acid with 30 ppm salicylic acid. The highest yield of fruits per hectare (94.07 tones) was obtained from 80 ppm humic acid with 70 ppm salicylic acid treatment. So, the application of 80 ppm humic acid with 70 ppm salicylic acid would be the best option to maintain better growth and to have better quality tomato.

    IMPACT OF BANGLADESH KRISHI BANK AGRICULTURAL LOAN ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITION OF SMALL FARMERS IN SARISHABARI UPAZILA OF JAMALPUR DISTRICT

    The purposes of the study were to ascertain the impact of BKB agricultural loan towards the socio-economic condition of small farmers, to explore the relationship between the characteristics of the small farmers and the impact of BKB agricultural loan on the socio-economic condition and to identify the problems faced by the BKB agricultural loan beneficiaries in receiving and utilizing of loans. The study was conducted in three unions of Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur District. A list of 1103 beneficiaries was prepared with the help of respective SAAO of those unions, branch manager, loan officer and field assistant of that branch. From the list 110 beneficiaries were selected at random for sample. Data were collected during 1 September, 2013 to 30 th November, 2013. Pearson’s correlation co-efficient was used to explore the relationship between the variables. Findings showed that more than half compared to 26.36 percent had belonged to medium impact and 18.18 percent had belonged to high impact after involvement with BKB agricultural loan. Out of nine independent variables, farm size, loan availability and loan utilization had significant positive relationship with the impact of BKB agricultural loan on socio- economic condition of the small farmers. Based on the Problem Confrontation Index st followed by ‘loan is not available in time of need’. ‘High rate of interest’ was ranked third, ‘loan disbursement is delayed due to linger process’ was ranked fourth and “loan repayment period is very short’ was ranked last.

    INFLUENCE OF SUBSTRATE SUPPLEMENTS ON CONTAMINATION, GROWTH AND YIELD OF OYSTER MUSHROOM (Pleurotus ostreatus)

    ABSTRACT An experiment was conducted at the Mushroom Culture House (MCH) and Plant Pathology Laboratory of the Department of Plant pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), during July to October 2020, to investigate the impact of enrichment of substrate with different supplements on contaminations, growth and yield of oyster mushroom. The experiment was followed by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 replications. Sawdust along with different levels of supplement (viz: Compost, Vermicompost, Mustard oil cake and their mixtures @ 5, 10 & 15 g) were considered used as different treatments for this present experiment. Application of different doses of supplements along with sawdust showed significant variations in respect of the growth and yield characteristics of mushroom. From the experiment it was revealed that the maximum number of primordia /packet (80), number of fruiting body /packet (54.67), number of effective fruiting body /packet (41), stipe length (2.69 cm), length of the fruiting body (6.56 cm), breadth of the fruiting body (5.67 cm), biological yield (153.67 g), economic yield (116.67 g), dry yield (29.33 g) and biological efficiency (51.22 %) were observed in T 2 (10) g Compost supplemented sawdust spawn packet. While the lowest value was observed in Control. Four contaminants viz Penicillium sp, Rhizopus sp, Trichoderma sp, Aspergillus sp were isolated and identified from the contaminated spawn. There was no contamination was observed in T 1 , T 2 , T 3 , T 4 , T 10 and T during the whole period of experiment whereas the highest contamination severity (77.33%) was recorded from 5g mustard oil cake treated packet at 60 DAT. 11

    MARKETING SYSTEM OF CAPTURED FISH IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF GAIBANDHA SADAR

    A survey was conducted on Gaibandha Sadar fish marketing system in some selected areas to determine the socio-economic profile, marketing channels of fish trading, marketing margins, consumer price share by fish farmer and other intermediaries and factors that affect marketing margin of the fish traders, therefore, identify the problems and suggestions for its improvement. The research was carried out at Gaibandha town's several markets from October 2020 to February 2021. A total of 120 fish dealers (Fish Farmer, Bepari, Aratdar, and Retailers) equally from three markets were selected through purposive sampling. A significant number of people in Gaibandha district engaged as beparis, aratdars, and retailers in the fish trading sector. The farmer traded fish to bepari. The fish was subsequently sold to the retailer via aratdar. Retailers served as the final link in the fish marketing chain, interacting directly with customers. In the study region, for aratdar, the entire expense of fish was found to be Tk. 154.96, TK.438.96 fish farmer, Tk. 646.96 for Bepari, and retailer, Tk.228.46 per quintal of fish. Among them, Beparis value-added cost is the highest as a result of higher aratdar commission and transportation charges, although Aratdar has the lowest value-added cost. Bepari average net profit was Tk.3436 and Aratdar’s' average net profit was Tk.221.54 and the Retailers' average net profit was Tk.3851.54. It was observed that market Channel – II is the longest route than channel-I and channel-III. On aggregate, fish farmers obtain 49.3% of the price paid by consumers, implying that intermediaries gain 51% of the consumer price. Among 13 variables included in the multiple regression model, transportation, loading and unloading, icing, electricity, personal expense wage, wastages, sale & cost price, other expense are found significantly affecting the marketing margin of fish traders. Traders and customers faced a lot of problems. The upgrading of fish transport facilities, the accessibility of loans, and the implementation of fish quality control procedures, awareness about fish marketing system is proposed in order to enhance the fish marketing system and uplift the socioeconomic condition of stakeholders in the study areas.

    QUALITY STATUS OF DRIED FISH IN THE RETAILMARKETS OF SYLHET SADAR UPAZILA, SYLHET

    The present study was under taken with an aim to assess the quality of the dried products in the retail markets which act as a linker between the producers and consumers. For this purpose, initially a survey was conducted in five selected dried fish retail markets of Sylhet Sadar Upazila to assess the availability, retailing system, price, and physical condition of the traditional sun dried products through market visit and person to person interview. Thereafter, representative samples of four traditional sun dried fish such as Taki (Channa punctatus), Guchi baim (Mastacembelus pancalus), Jat punti (Puntius sophore), and Tengra (Mystus vittatus) were collected from each market for further quality assessment in the laboratory. On the other hand, these four species were also sun dried in the laboratory with proper hygienic and sanitary conditions as a control. Then the organoleptic quality, water reconstitution properties and proximate composition of traditional sun dried and control products were evaluated and compared. It was observed that the dried fish distribution chain from producers to consumers run through a number of intermediaries: wholesalers, paikers, local vendor and retailers. The number of retailers in the studied markets varied between 2 to 21. Total 22 freshwater origin sun dried products were found in the different markets during the survey period of which 17 were small size dried fish and 5 were big size dried fish and also represented 77% and 23%, respectively. The variation of the price of the selected fish products depends on market species, size, quality and seasonal fluctuation of the dried fish in the markets. The price of small dried fish species varied from BDT 300-800 per kg where the price range of Punti, Tengra, Taki and Guchi baim were ranged between BDT 300-400, BDT 450-500, BDT 500-600 and BDT 700-800 per kg, respectively. It was been reported that the retailers usually sell their products within 5-7 days after collection from the aratdars and do not use any preservatives or insecticides within this period although the products was found to keep openly in the markets. The average daily selling of the product also reported to vary depending on the size of the markets and density of the adjacent population. It was also been demonstrated that a retailer usually sell up to 10 kg per day in a larger market whereas in a smaller market it was about 4 kg per day. A number of constraints were mentioned by the retailers of which 60% about the lack of capital, 10% about on higher transportation cost, 16% about inadequate or lack of storage facilities and 14% about the unhygienic market place. When the quality of the traditional sun dried and control products were compared, it was been showed that the color, odor, texture of the control products were excellent grade than those of the traditional sun dried products collected from the retail markets. Water reconstitution properties also varied between traditional and control products where maximum rehydration was observed in control products both at 40°C and 60°C temperature. The higher (18.32% to 25.85%) moisture content was observed in the traditional sun dried products whereas the control products contained up to 15.99% moisture irrespective of the species. It was also been observed that the protein, lipid and ash content of the traditional sun dried products were lower than those of the control products. These results revealed that the quality of the traditional sun dried product is lower than those of the products made in the laboratory. This may be happened due to the use of quality deteriorated raw fish for drying purpose, lack of knowledge about the quality and unhygienic drying practices in the yards. Therefore, awareness on quality of raw materials and training on proper hygiene, sanitation and keeping conditions of the products is prime need from producers to retailers. In addition, quality monitoring system of the products should be implemented in the retail markets. It is, therefore, strongly recommended to ensure the institutional and government support and extension aids for improving the drying methods, marketing systems and market facilities that can ensure a good quality sun dried fish products in the retail markets for consumers.

    STUDY ON THE PRESENT STATUS OF CHARLAND AGROFORESTRY IN RANGPUR DISTRICT

    The study was carried out to know the present status of charland people in respect to agroforestry practice of Kaunia and Gangachara upazila under Rangpur district. An extensive field survey and field visit were undertaken during November 2018 to March 2019 in four unions of the study area. The independent variables of the study were age, education, household size, farm size, homestead area, annual income, communication exposure, source of income and dependent variables were number of different trees and vegetable grown in homestead area, knowledge on agroforestry, impacts on livelihood of homestead agroforestry and problems of homestead agroforestry. The overall results of the study revealed that the maximum number of respondents (45%) belonged below 36 years whereas minimum number of respondents (26%) were old aged (Above 50). The educational status was found maximum (41%) as can sign name only and minimum (7%) was found as above secondary level. Among the occupational status, most of the respondents would like to do agricultural work (59%) whereas the lowest number of the respondents was under business category (7%). In case of having Agroforestry related knowledge, maximum (52%) respondent had moderate knowledge and minimum (12%) had excellent knowledge on agroforestry. In case of tree species in homestead, mango (Mangifera indica) tree species was in maximum (65%) whereas custard apple (Annona squamosa) was in minimum (5%). Among the vegetables species, bottle gourd (Lagenaria scleraria) was the most dominant species (65%) and the recessive was Brinjal (9%). In case of agroforestry product use, family consumption was found in maximum (27%) whereas only 7% was observed as distribution to neighbours. The research results also revealed that the maximum number of respondents (23.5%) didn‟t get any information from Upazila Agricultural Officer (UAO) about homestead agroforestry. Only 3.5% of the respondents got information from UAO about homestead agroforestry. But a significant number of respondents (9.5%) told that they didn‟t get any agroforestry related information from NGO staffs. Some of the problems about agroforestry practices in the study area were also identified. Tree grazing of animal was the most serious problem and lack of irrigation facilities was the second most problem in the char land area. As a whole, charland agroforestry practices would be a viable activity for the improvement of better livelihood for the charland people of Kaunia and Gangachara upazila under Rangpur district. In case of management practices like seed collection, watering, weed control, manuring and fertilization, pruning and insecticide spray were done maximum by farmers and minimum were done by children.

    TO STUDY THE PREVALENCE OF THEILERIOSIS IN CATTLE AND EVALUATION OF THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY OF DIFFERENT COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE DRUGS IN BANGLADESH

    The present study was carried out to detect the prevalence of theileriosis in cattle of Manikganj Sadar, Singair and Ghior upazila in Manikganj district of Bangladesh and therapeutic efficacy of Imidocarb dipropionate (Babenil®), Oxetetracycline (Renamycine®) and Gentamicine (Acigent®). The study was conducted from July 2016 to December 2016. During six month study period a total number of 150 cattle were examined, 10 were found to be infected with Theileria spp. On blood examination stained with Geimsa, it was observed that the overall prevalence of theileriosis in cattle was recorded as 6.67%. Animals were screened on the basis of clinical signs like fever, anorexia, with or without superficial lymph node enlargement and blood smear examination for presence of Theileria spp. The prevalence of theileriosis in female was non significantly higher (7.50%) than male (5.71%). In case of age group the significantly highest prevalence (13.3%) was in adult cattle above 3 years age, followed by 4.00 % in the age group of 2 to less than 3 years old and 0.00 % in 6 months to 2 years which was not significant (p>0.05). The prevalence of theileriosis in respect of breed was non significantly (p>0.05) maximum in cross breed cattle (7.05%) than in indigenous cattle (6.15%). After identification of causal agent, therapaeutic effect of imidocarb dipropionate, oxyteracycline and gentamicin were tested and where highest recovery was found by administration of imidocarb dipropionate (70 %).
