Item An Improved Safety Detection Algorithm towards Deadlock Avoidance(IEEE, 2020-04) Begum, Momotaz; Faruque, Omar; Miah, Md. Waliur RahmanIn operating system, the resource allocation to each process is a critical issue, because the resources are limited and sometimes may not be shareable among processes. An ineffective resource allocation may cause deadlock situation in the system. The banker's algorithm and some other modified algorithms are available to handle deadlock situations. However, the complexities of these algorithms are quite high. This paper presents an innovative technique for safe state detection in a system based on the maximum resource requirements of processes and the minimum resource available. In our approach, the resource requirements of each process are sorted in a linked list, where it is easy to check whether the request exceeds the available resources. In our experiments we compare our approach with some other methods including the original banker's algorithm. The results show that our proposed method provides less time complexity and less space complexity than the other methods.Item Financial Development, International Trade and Economic Growth Nexus (1971-2016): Examining Bangladesh Perspective(Bangladesh Journal of Integrated Thoughts, 2022-05-25) Islam, Md. Shaidul; Faruque, Omar; Ahmed3, ZobayerStudies have examined economic growth mostly without inspecting the combined effect of international trade (IT) and financial development (FD). Considering Bangladesh's perspective, this study investigates the nexus of IT, FD, and economic growth. Time-series econometric data covering 1971-2016 are used. Econometric techniques that are used to meet the objectives are mainly the “Augmented Dickey-Fuller” for unit root test, “Johansen and Juselius” test for co-integration and popular VECM for checking long-run equilibrium relation and causality test. The exploratory findings of this study show that a long-run equilibrium relationship exists among the IT, FD and the growth of the economy. This study also finds unidirectional or one-way long-run causality from IT and FD to the economy's growth, and in the short-run, bidirectional causality is running from IT to Economic growth and Economic Growth to IT. Policies related to further FD and trade openness are suggested for accelerating the growth of Bangladesh economy.Item Pharmacological Screening of Antidiabetic Herbal Preparations in Streptozotocin Induced Type-2 Diabetic Model Rats(Pharmacologyonline, 2019-04-30) Zamir, Rausan; Islam, Nazmul; Rahman, Anisur; Hasan, Masudul; Faruque, OmarAntidiabetic potency of locally produced antidiabetic herbal preparations (ADHPs) are unknown. In this study, a pharmacological screening of antihyperglycemic potency of locally available six ADHPs were evaluated on streptozotocin (STZ) induced type 2 diabetic rat models. ADHPs were administered to the diabetic rat and blood glucose levels were monitored before (0 day) and after administration of ADHPs (at 14th day and 28th day) by measuring serum glucose concentration using oxidase method. Serum glucose levels in different groups of ADHP treated rats were compared against baseline glucose levels and water control and reference drug by t test. Serum glucose levels were found to be similar at baseline in all groups against water control and reference drug. The administration of herbal preparations except ADHP-3 and ADHP-5 resulted in a non-significant reduction of blood glucose level of the diabetic rats when compared with diabetic rats that received no treatment at 14th day or compared to the diabetic rats received standard or baseline. ADHP-3 was found to be most effective hypoglycemic herbal preparation at 14th day. At 28th day, all ADHPs were found to have hypoglycemic potential compared to water control and only ADHP-3 showed similar hypoglycemic effect compared to reference drug and baseline glucose levels at 28th day. This study revealed that a minor fraction of the locally available antihyperglycemic herbal preparations are truly effective and among the six ADHPs studied, only ADHP-3 possesses hypoglycemic effect.Item The Judicial Service Regulation (Srinkhola) Bidhimala, 2017: Whether in Consonance with the Spirit of Judicial Independence Guaranteed under Constitution or not?(East West University, 2019-08-25) Faruque, OmarThis thesis analyses concept of judicial independence and judicial accountability with special reference to leading cases in the judiciary. The central issues of this thesis are to find out provisions of Judicial Service Regulation (Srinkhola) Bidhimala 2017 conflicts with judicial independence and accountability. The thesis examines the conditions of judicial independence and accountability in Bangladesh in comparison with general principles, and under the Constitution of Bangladesh. Firstly, it evaluates Independence of Judiciary as a concept in our constitution. Secondly, it gives a clear concept about absolute checks in balances. Thirdly, this thesis examines how subordinate judiciary was separated from the executive by the judgment of Masdar Hossain and how Judiciary was separated from legislative by the judgment of 16th Amendment Case. The thesis identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the Judicial Service Regulation (Srinkhola) Bidhimala 2017 regulation and their impacts on judicial independence. It proposes ways of preserving the strengths or remedying the weaknesses to improve the conditions of judicial independence and judicial accountability in Bangladesh. Lastly, in conclusion thesis emphasizes that proper measures should be taken to maintain judicial independence and at the same time, an adequate system of proper checks and balances should be established without undermining the independence of judges.
