Item EFFECT OF CULTIVAR AND ROW SPACING ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF LENTIL(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2010-06) FATEMA, KANIZThe experiment was carried out at farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, during the period from October 2008 to April 2009 to find out the effect of cultivar and row spacing on growth and yield of lentil. The experiment consisted of two factors, viz., Factor A: Cultivar (4 levels) - C : BARI Masur-3, C 2 : BARI Masur-4, C 3 : BARI Masur-5 and C : BARI Masur-6; Factor B: Row spacing (4 levels) - S 1 : Row spacing – 20 cm, S 2 4 : Row spacing – 25 cm, S : Row spacing – 30 cm and S : Row spacing – 35 cm. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on growth parameters of the studied crop were recorded after every 10 days starting from 30 DAS to 70 DAS and at harvest. Among the 4 cultivars, C 4 (BARI Masur-6) produced the highest height in plant, maximum number of branches plant 4 -1 and maximum dry matter plant -1 at every recording day, whereas the corresponding lowest values were obtained from the cultivar C 1 (BARI Masur-3). In row spacing S (20 cm) obtained the highest value in plant height, number of branches plant -1 1 and in dry matter accumulation while the corresponding lowest values were obtained from the row spacing S (35 cm). In respect of yield and yield contributing characters such as number of pods plant 4 -1 , pod length, grain yield and straw yield, the cultivar C (BARI Masur-6) also had the highest values which were 48.26 plant -1 1 4 3 , 3.26 cm, 2.14 t ha and 2.81 t ha -1 , respectively, while the cultivar C (BARI Masur-3) gave the lowest values which were 40.21 plant -1 , 2.89 cm, 1.64 t ha 1 -1 and 2.17 t ha -1 , respectively. In combination effect of cultivars and spacing, the combination of C (BARI Masur-3) and row spacing S 1 1 (20 cm) performed the worst obtaining the lowest values in all growth and yield parameter while BARI Masur-6 with row spacing 20 cm obtained the highest value in plant height, BARI Masur-5 with row spacing 30 cm on number of branches plant -1 and BARI Masur-6 with row spacing 30 cm in yield and yield contributing characters. The highest grain and Stover yield obtained in the combination effect of study were 2.27 t ha corresponding lowest values were 1.36 t ha -1 -1 and 3.02 t ha and 1.69 t ha -1 -1 . , respectively while the -1Item EFFECT OF NPKS AND PRE HARVEST NECK BENDING ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF ONION (Allium cepa L.)(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2015) FATEMA, KANIZAn experiment was conducted at the Horticultural Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, during the period from October 2013 to July 2014 to find out the effect of NPKS and pre harvest bending on the growth and yield of onion. The experiment consists of two factors. Factor A: four levels of NPKS - T 0 : N 0 P 0 K 0 P 0 (control), T 1 : N 60 P 25 K 50 S 15 ; T 2 ii : N 120 (kg/ha), respectively and Factor B: two levels of bending - B 0 P 50 K 75 S 20 ; T 3 : N 180 : No bending/ control and B 1 : Pre harvest neck bending. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications. Results showed that highest yield of onion (24.06 t) was found from T 2 treatment and lowest yield (11.21 t) was found from T 0 treatment. For pre harvest neck bending, B 1 gave highest yield (18.55 t) and B 0 gave lowest yield (16.36 t) of onion bulb. The combined effect of NPKS and pre harvest neck bending, highest yield (25.63 t) was found from T 2 B 1 and lowest yield (10.83 t) was found from T 0 B 0 treatment combination. Calculating benefit cost ratio N 120 P 50 K 75 S 20 kg/ha with pre harvest neck bending gave the highest economic return (2.90) compared with rest of the treatment combinations. So, 120 kg Nitrogen, 50 kg phosphorus, 75 kg potassium and 20 kg sulphur with pre harvest neck bending gave highest growth, yield and quality of onion bulb.Item FARMERS` KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF COMMERCIAL VEGETABLE FARMING UNDER BARAIGRAM UPAZILA OF NATORE DISTRICT(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND INFORMATION SYSTEM, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA, BANGLADESH, 2020-12) FATEMA, KANIZABSTRACT The major purpose of this research study was to asses farmers’ knowledge, attitude and practices on commercial vegetable cultivation and also to explore the relationships between each of nine selected characteristics of the farmers with their knowledge, attitude and practices on commercial vegetable cultivation. The study was conducted in 6 villages of Baraigram upazila under Natore district. The populations of farmers in these villages were 1187, from which 120 samples were drawn by using random sampling technique. An interview schedule was used for data collection. The information was collected during 15th December 2020 to January 15th 2021. Appropriate scales were developed so as to live the variables. With respects knowledge, it had been found that the bulk (61.67 percent) of the farmers possessed medium knowledge, while 20 percent of the farmers possessed low knowledge and only 18.33 percent of the farmers had high knowledge on commercial vegetable cultivation. Regarding attitude, the study showed that 63.33 of the respondents had neutral attitude towards the commercial vegetable cultivation, while the proportions of unfavorable and favorable were 26.67 and 10 percent, respectively. In case of practices about 57.5 percent farmers possessed medium practice, 25.83 percent of the farmers possessed low practice and only 16.67 percent of the farmers had high practice. Thus, 83.33 percent of the farmers had medium to low practice on various aspects of commercial vegetable cultivation. Out of nine selected characteristics of the farmers, level of education, and agricultural aining exposure of the farmers had significant positive relationship with their knowledge on commercial vegetable cultivation, while problem faced by the farmers had significant negative relationship with their knowledge on commercial vegetable cultivation. Rest characteristics i.e., age, farm size, annual family income, income from vegetable cultivation, agricultural extension media contact, and vegetable cultivation experience had no significant relationship with their knowledge on commercial vegetable cultivation. No characteristics of the farmers had significant relationship with their attitude towards commercial vegetable cultivation. Level of education and agricultural training exposures had significant positive relationship with their practices on commercial vegetable cultivation while age and problem faced in vegetable cultivation had significant negative relationship with their practices on commercial vegetable cultivation. Remainder of the characteristics of the farmers had no significant relationship with their practices on commercial vegetable cultivation.Item IMPACT OF MICROFINANCE ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF LUXMIPUR DISTRICT(DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT & POVERTY STUDIES, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA-1207, 2020-06) FATEMA, KANIZThe aim of this thesis to understand the impact of microfinance on women empowerment. As they are the half in number of our total population. Without their empowerment, we can‟t think the ultimate development of our society as well as our country. The impact of microfinance on women‟s empowerment remains debated. While some studies suggest that microfinance helps women increase their income earning abilities,leading to greater power within the household, others argue that men often take control over the credit and income which was allocated to women, leading to a more vulnerable position within the household for women. This paper evaluates the impact of microfinance on women‟s empowerment in rural Bangladesh. The data were collected via a questionnaire that was conducted on a field study in the district of Luxmipure in Bangladesh. Only primary data were collected for this study. The survey method was followed for data collection. SPSS software was used to analyzed the collected data. Furthermore, the impact of microfinance on women‟s empowerment is examined through women empowerment index (WEI), which describes us the status of women empowerment through different descriptive statistics. From the study we can find that the women empowerment index of all respondents is 3.47 which is moderate value of index, the value describe still in our rual area women don‟t have that much power of making decision about economic, social and political isuues. Women can take loan from various government and non government organization but most of the time they are not the real user of that money. Their husband or son take all the decision about use of loan. On the other hand if they use the loan for their business they can‟t save money without husband‟s concern. So we need more awear about women empowerment activities. Now, if we tell about the microfinancing institution, they also have huge problem specially for women such as high rate of interest, lack of desirable loan, lace of easy process of loan, lack of digital payment system, weekly installment etc. The study also recommends some policy to solve these problems. Both government and responsible authorities also need to work together to make the processes easy and secure.Item Incidence of Potato Virus Y (PVY) in Selected Districts of Bangladesh and It’s Molecular Detection(DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY, 2018) FATEMA, KANIZIncidence of potato virus Y in the three selected potato growing areas of Bangladesh, viz. Savar, Manikgonj and Munshiganj were investigated from field samples. Overall, three upazilla (sub-station) from each district (which were at least 20 km apart) were selected for samples collection and disease incidence monitoring. Collected samples were storage at -20°C and analyzed in Molecular Biology and Plant Virology lab, Central Research Laboratory of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka. In the all investigated areas, PVY appeared in severe to moderate level and their incidence was 317%. The sources of potato seed tubers were studied and observed that in most of the cases farmers are continuously cultivating same field and used their own seed tubers that was kept in cold storage condition. The frequency of the storage at cold storage was 67.6% which was the highest among the all sources. In this study, PVY was detected through reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). A 480 bp amplicon of PVY- coat protein (CP) gene was amplified and the nucleotide sequences was also amplified in this study.Item INFLUENCE OF NITROGENOUS FERTILIZER ON INCIDENCE OF PEST AND OTHER ARTHROPODS OF QUINOA(DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, 2020) FATEMA, KANIZAn experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November, 2018 to March, 2019 to evaluate the influence of nitrogen fertilizer on insect pest complex of quinoa. The experiment was laid out in Randomize Complete Block Design replicated with three times. For this study treatments were, T 1 : 50 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose; T ii 2 : 100 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose; T : 150 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose; T 4 : 200 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose; T : 250 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose; T 6 5 : untreated control. The lowest aphid, whitefly and jassid, stink bug, flea beetle, grasshopper, spider, housefly infestation (3.71, 2.70 and 3.36, 2.78, 3.78, 1.78, 1.55, 3.44 respectively) on quinoa was recorded in T The lowest percent leaf infestation and percent plant infestation (24.31% and 36.23%, respectively) by insect pests on quinoa was recorded in T 1. The highest incidence of lady bird beetle per five tagged plants (3.34) on quinoa was recorded in T . Number of Apis mellifera per m 2 per minute at different day times was recorded highest in T which comprised with 250 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose and low in T 1 1. 5 3 5 . Number of Apis florea per m per minute at different day times was aslo recorded highest in T which comprised with 250 kg nitrogen fertilizer dose and low in T 1 5 . So, from this study it was concluded that, the higher amount of nitrogen fertilizer treated field was more susceptible for different insect pest. The highest plant height, panicle length, panicle diameter and 1000 seed weight (54.79 cm, 28.13 cm, 12.52 cm and 2.89 gm respectively) of quinoa was recorded in T The highest yield per hectare (1.11 ton/ha) of quinoa was recorded in T 3. 3. As a result, the order of efficacy of different fertilizer doses in terms of yield is T 3 >T 4 >T 5 >T 2 >T 1 >T 6. It can be concluded that T may be the best dose for decreasing insect pests and increasing yield.
