Item A Machine Learning Approach for Emotion Classification in Bengali Speech(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2023-01-01) Islam, Md. Rakibul; Akhi, Amatul Bushra; Akter, Farzana; Rashid, Md Wasiul; Rumu, Ambia Islam; Lata, Munira Akter; Ashrafuzzaman, Md.In this research work, we have presented a machine learning strategy for Bengali speech emotion categorization with a focus on Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) as features. The commonly utilized method of MFCC in speech processing has proved effective in obtaining crucial phoneme-specific data. This paper analyzes the efficacy of four machine learning algorithms: Random Forest, XGBoost, CatBoost, and Gradient Boosting, and tackles the paucity of research on emotion categorization in non-English languages, particularly Bengali. With CatBoost obtaining the greatest accuracy of 82.85%, Gradient Boosting coming in second with 81.19%, XGBoost coming in third with 80.03%, and Random Forest coming in fourth with 80.01%, experimental evaluation shows encouraging outcomes. MFCC features improve classification precision and offer insightful information on the distinctive qualities of emotions expressed in Bengali speech. By demonstrating how well MFCC characteristics can identify emotions in Bengali speech, this study advances the field of emotion classification. Future research can investigate more sophisticated feature extraction methods, look into how temporal dynamics are incorporated into emotion classification models, and investigate practical uses for emotion detection systems in Bengali speech. This study advances our knowledge of emotion classification and paves the way for more effective emotion identification systems in Bengali speech by utilizing MFCC and machine learning techniques. Our work addresses the need for thorough and efficient techniques to recognize and classify emotions in speech signals in the context of emotion categorization. Understanding emotions is essential for many applications, as they are a basic component of human communication. By investigating cutting-edge strategies that show promise for enhancing the precision and effectiveness of emotion recognition, this study advances the field of emotion classification.Item Contract management of Dhaka city neighborhood upgrading project on physical progress tracking by Microsoft project software(BRAC University, 2023-10) Ashrafuzzaman, Md.; Khan, Masud AkhterThis study details the Contract Management of the Dhaka City Neighborhood Upgrading Project (DCNUP) based on the physical progress tracking by Design, Supervision and Monitoring (DSM) consultant through Microsoft Project software. It concluded with the best possible recommendations and effective measures taken under kind consideration in order to enhance its existing performance, effectiveness efficiency, achieving Value for Money, and the project objectives of DCNUP.Item Design of Hexagonal Shaped Spectroscopy Based Biosensor for the Detection of Tuberculosis(Elsevier, 2024-08-30) Hossen, Rakib; Hossain, Md. Ashiq; Sen, ShuvoA proposal has been made to identify tuberculosis cells using a novel compact sensor based on photonic crystal fiber: PCF in accordance with hexagonal spectroscopy. This proposed structure, which consists of a closely packed hexagonal air hole in the cladding region and a hollow-core area, possesses a very low loss of 6.30 × 10−8 dB/m and an exceptionally high sensitivity of up to 91.75 % (tuberculosis cell for 1.345). Numerous optical parameters have been identified and assessed, comprised of the numerical aperture, the V-parameter, or normalized frequency (Veff), and the effective area (Aeff). The operational wavelength range is defined as 0.80–3.0 THz. The numerical investigation of the properties of the proposed TB sensors is performed within the environment of COMSOL Multiphysics (Version 5.3) using FV-FEM stands for the full vector finite element method. PCF sensors composed of hexagonal lattice in a circular form with ZEONEX as the backdrop material is intended to boost the sensitivity response in comparison to the earlier works. Additionally, the sensor that is being displayed achieves a single modality throughout its whole operational wavelength range. This proposed sensor may play a significant role in identifying tuberculosis thanks to its superior sensitivity response and extremely minimal confinement loss. So, it is clearly seen that this sensor could be used to bio-medical sectors with process of terahertz (THz) wave pulse.Item Energy studies of biomolecules(Department of Physics, BUET, 2000-06) Ashrafuzzaman, Md.; Ahmad, Dr. Gias uddinIn this work the interaction energies between the different types of bases of a single strand of DNA molecule are calculated. Using these original values of energies the harmonic behavior of a number of base patterns of DNA are studied. In view of the great interest aroused by the discovery ofth~e --- of-t-he-te-lo-me~re -~s-e-g--m" e~nt -of the DNA in the replication process and its -- -- --- possible link with the aging process, -w-e have in.-v-e-s~t.i-g-ated, with simple --" "- ,. ~'" models, the harmonic behavior of the telomeric pattern of bases as well as \ thethermodynamic respons~~ the bio~o_gic~lsy..s!em.With these;e~lts a conclusion on the probable role of the telomeric Rattern on aging has also \ been drawn. Here the calculated values of harmonic frequencies of the telomeric pattern of bases and of other possible patterns show that the telomeric pattern is associated with the highest vibrational frequency among all patterns of base combinations at the replication end of DNA. This seems to suggest that due to the existing telomeric pattern being '\ closest to the frequencies of the electromagnetic radiation coming from sunlight, resonance of the telomeric frequency with such radiation may be responsible for damage to the reproductive ability of the cells and consequent aging and other problems. On the other hand in the last part of this work we have calculated the thermal vibrational amplitudes of the telomeric pattern and other possible patterns which show that the amplitudes for the telomeric pattern is the least, and this suggests that the telomeric pattern is more mechanically and thermally stable than other possible patterns in the biological environment against damage from ordinary heat and mechanical effects.Item Impact of in-service training (cluster meeting) on primary teachers classroom practice(University of Dhaka, 2015-03-02) Ashrafuzzaman, Md.Teacher is one of the best teaching tools to attain, ensure and sustain the quality of education in any country. For this, teachers have to be trained. The trainings include both pre-service and in-service training, and continuous training for professional development. This study focused on the impact of in-service training (cluster meeting) on primary teachers’ classroom practice at the English in Action (EIA) intervention schools. This research adopted the “grounded theory” approach. Here, the researcher attempted to develop a theory inductively from various sources of data which is the basis of the grounded theory. For the convenience of the research and conducting this study, the researcher mainly collected open-ended data from the respondents through observation schedule, a semi-structured interview schedule and a focus group discussion guideline. The collected primary data were transcribed and developed into categories or themes of information and composed into figure or visual model that portrays the general explanation. In this respect, the study was qualitative in nature and conducted according to the grounded theory. The population of the study was all the teachers and students of primary grade of Paba upazila of Rajshahi district. The researcher worked with the students of the primary schools (grade I to V) and their English teachers. Two cluster meetings (CMs) were attended and observed. From those meetings, five English teachers were selected purposively and finally three English classes of each of those teachers (5x3=15classes) were observed for the study. After classroom observation those teachers were interviewed individually. Focus group discussions were conducted with the students of those observed classes. Eight students were present in each group who were selected purposively. The study was carried out in the schools of pilot phase of EIA programme. Data were collected from 31 March to 28 June, 2012. The teachers, who have responded in this study, are highly educated and attended cluster meetings and various other similar trainings. The cluster meetings had multifaceted objectives which provided them with ideas for warming up, reviewing and reflecting, micro teaching and extending activities for improving teaching and learning capacities of teachers. The cluster meetings were held in different venues or conference centres. The meetings fulfilled approximately 80% of their needs, especially in terms of solving classroom problems through sharing practical experiences and disseminating knowledge. It also helped for developing English teachers’ speaking fluency. Respondent teacherslearnt many new things in the cluster meetings. Some of them include: giving instruction in English, easier ways of teaching English, easier ways of teaching prepositions, playing games, using of teaching aid such as audio or iPod, Logitech, flashcard and posters, and writing paragraph by mind mapping. Most of the teachers used to take classes in their own ways before getting training from EIA. After being trained in cluster meetings, respondents applied and implemented new ideas and methods in their classrooms. Now they use audio, textbook and posters, which help students learn quickly and speak English without difficulty. Most of the teachers liked using English as the language of instruction in the classroom, showing posters and pictures, conducting group works, using audio, word games and board. Students mostly liked to listen to audio (songs, rhymes and poems), writing on the blackboard, playing word games and other group activities. In general, teachers and students like almost the same activities in English classes. But in some cases, it was found that the instructions given by the teachers, were not clear to students. A majority of the respondent teachers faced some problems in introducing EIA techniques in the classroom especially while using posters, Logitech and audio. Students on the other hand did not understand some parts of the audio. Teachers’ also faced some challenges for excessive class load, big size of classes and lack of supervision and monitoring. Having faced these challenges, many teachers return to their previous practice of teacher-centred methods such as lectures instead of using modern technologies.Item Problems of Working Mothers in Socializing Children: A Study on Rajshahi Metropolitan City(University of Rajshahi, 2010) Mamun, Syeda Afreena; Ashrafuzzaman, Md.; Karim, Md. RezaulTraditionally, responsibility of housekeeping and child raring solely remain with the women in Bangladesh society. Nowadays, as increasing number of women are involving in earning activities outside home; this has become extremely difficult for them. This is mainly because of the fact that men in Bangladesh society hardly involve in responsibilities of housekeeping and child raring. In fact, engagement in activities outside home is an additional new role for the Bangladeshi women as the responsibilities of housekeeping and child raring still remain solely with them. Proper child raring is extremely crucial as children are the future citizen of any country. Socialization is an important aspect of child development through which a child turns as a social being. The integrity of the society much depends on the proper socialization of children. Although there are agents of socialization family, exclusively mother, is the key among ail. Hence, if mother fails to perform her duty, proper socialization may be hampered. This is not expected at all. As already mentioned women in Bangladesh society increasingly taking part in work outside home and men are hardly look after house and children how far the working women are able to play their role in the socialization process of children has become a prime issue. Particularly important is what are the problems faced by the working mothers in socializing their children. The present study focuses on this issue of problems working mother in socialization of their children. For the purpose, data were collected through face to face interview from the working mothers (both upper class and lower class) of a metropolitan city named Rajshahi of Bangladesh. It is evident from the study findings that the working mothers have faced problems in their household activities like feeding, cooking, cleaning, bedding and shopping. It is also evident that the working mothers have greatly faced problems in socialization of their children. The problems are more prevalent among the upper class working mothers compared to lower class working mothers. In the absence of institutionalized socialization provisions, such as day care centers, upper class working mothers mostly depend on maid servant to look after their children while they are in work outside home. So the children of the upper class working mother become accustomed with the habits of maid servant. Especially the language skills, appreciation of the other's role, loyalty to the senior are being severely influenced by the maid servant in the absence of mother. Based on the findings it may be recommended that child care facilities like day care center, child home, nursery etc. should be established and leave of the working mothers such maternity leave, casual leave, children's rearing leave should be increased to ensure proper socialization of the working mothers to fulfill and minimize their needs.Item Technology assessment and technology transfer of 3D printing technology in Bangladesh(Institute of Appropriate Technology (IAT), BUET, 2020-09-05) Ashrafuzzaman, Md.; Mamun, Dr. Mohammad Arif HasanThe additive manufacturing process or 3D printing technology has the potential to speed up the innovation and product creation processes to step towards digital fabrication. The 3D printing process is helping the consumers to free themselves from traditional suppliers and acquire & design their own products according to their own design and requirements. The Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is the most matured and cost efficient technology worldwide which patent already expired for the open source community. In this research work, the 3D printing technology are assessed for Bangladesh. Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) analysis has been deployed to evaluate different criteria and reach the most appropriate decision. Organizing the complex problems efficiently and taking into account multiple criteria leads to more informed and better judgments and choices. AHP is one of the most accurate technique for computing the relative weights of multiple criteria. The experiences from individual experts are utilized to approximate the relative magnitude of different factors using pair-wise comparisons. Each of the expert has to compare the relative importance of the two different items using a questionnaire specially designed for this purpose. A questionnaire was built specifically for this purpose and handed over to 10 3D printing technology experts. They evaluated the technologies and weighted them according to best of their expertise and experienced knowledge. Many criteria like cost, raw material availability, maintenance and production rate etc. Final weights were calculated and final results were designed using the weighted moving average giving priority to the more relevant data. It was concluded that the FDM technology was most appropriate for deployment in current manufacturing status of Bangladesh. From this thesis the financial feasibility study identified the most appropriate technology industrial sector to deploy the different types of polymer based 3DP technology. Also, through triple helix method mentioned specific area of contribution and responsibility of Academia, Government & Industry to implement this new technology to upgrade the traditional manufacturing sector into Digital Manufacturing system for Bangladesh.
