    Antenatal Depression Among Women With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

    Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is quite prevalent in low- and middle-income countries, and has been proposed to increase the risk of depression. There is only a prior study assessing antenatal depression among the subjects with GDM in the Bangladesh, which leads this study to be investigated. Objective: To determine the prevalence of depressive symptoms and potential associations among pregnant women diagnosed with GDM. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 105 pregnant women diagnosed with GDM over the period of January to December 2017 in 4- hospitals located in two different cities (Dhaka and Barisal). A semi-structured questionnaire was developed consisting of items related to socio-demographics, reproductive health history, diabetes, anthropometrics, and depression. Results: Mild to severe antenatal depression was present in 36.2% of the subjects (i.e., 14.3%, 19% and 2.9% for mild, moderate and severe depression, respectively). None of the socio-demographic factors were associated with depression, but the history of reproductive health-related issues (i.e., abortion, neonatal death) and uncontrolled glycemic status were associated with the increased risk of depressive disorders. Conclusions: GDM is associated with a high prevalence of depressive symptoms, which is enhanced by poor diabetes control. Thus, in women presenting with GDM, screening for depression should be pursued and treated as needed. Plain English Summary Pregnancy is a highly stressful period in a woman’s life that can also be associated with mental health problems such as depression. Depression is reported in about 16% of pregnant women whereas and such prevalence can double in LMICs (e.g., Bangladesh). In addition, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has emerged as a common condition afecting approximately 10% of all pregnancies. GDM has also been associated with adverse mental health outcomes, particularly depression. GDM women with antenatal depression are not only at increased risk of poorer quality of life, but are also at increased risk of adverse pregnancy and fetal outcomes, particularly in LMIC. This study investigates the prevalence of depressive symptoms among Bangladeshi pregnant women diagnosed with GDM. It is found that depression was detectable in 36.2% subjects. In addition, a history of reproductive health-related issues (i.e., abortion, neonatal death) and uncontrolled glycemic status were associated with increased risk of depressive disorders.

    Experimental study on the aerodynamic performance of winglets with curve edged wing of NACA 4412

    Aerodynamic drag force breakdown of a typical transport aircraft shows that lift-induced drag can be as much as 40% of total drag at cruise conditions and 80-90% of the total drag in take-off configuration. Induced drag is caused due to wingtip vortices formed bythe difference in pressure between the upper and lower surfaces of the wing. The main aim of implementing winglet is to reduce the induced drag as well as to convert them to additional thrust therefore reducing the fuel cost and increasing the efficiency of the aircraft. This thesis deals with the curved trailing edge taperedwing by adding different winglets at the wing tip. NACA 4412 aerofoilplanformis used due to its good stall properties and low roughness effect. The experimental investigation is carried out in the wind tunnel to explore aerodynamics of wings with three winglet models. For reference curved trailing edged tapered wing is considered as base wing. Including other than base wing three winglets are used namely curved trailing edged tapered wing with blended winglet, curved trailing edgedtapered wing with double blended winglet and curved trailing edged tapered wing with spiroid winglet. All the models are designed using Solidworks. The wing and winglets are manufactured by using wood with same span and equal surface area. All the models are tested at air speed of 98.64 km/h (0.08 Mach) i.e. at Reynolds Number 2.05 x 105 in the closed circuit wind tunnel available at Turbulence Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, BUET. The Static pressure at different AOA (-4°, 0°, 4°, 8°, 12°, 16°, 20°& 24°) is measured from both upper and lower surfaces of the wing models through different pressure tapings by using a multi-tube water manometer. The aerodynamiccharacteristics (Coefficient of Lift, Coefficient of Drag and Lift to Drag ratio) for different models isdetermined from the static pressure distribution. The experimental results show that lift to drag ratio increases and induced drag decreasesfor wing models with winglets compared to wing model without winglet for the Reynolds number considered in the present study.

    Robocars for Shortest Track Finding and Transmitting

    Robocars can reduce human efforts in packet routing management problems in many industries including airport and postal packet services. Large airports and postal departments need many such Robocars to carry their packet properly. Central server-based system can be used to monitor or suggests optimum paths to the Robocars from source to destination. However, central system damage will crash or fail the whole system. The problem even becomes more challenging when the Robocars are autonomously carry information and suggest others the optimum path to choose the destination from their own experience. We built two (2) such Robocars, those are capable to find shortest track and transmit the path to other Robocar. Our Robocars apply optimum and shortest path by applying shortest path algorithm. We fixed seven (7) different paths in a maze of a Robocar. The Robocar traverses all seven (7) paths and then find an optimum path among them (lower cost) to reach from source to destination. After reaching destination, it transmits his experience (the shortest path) to its neighbor Robocars. Other Robocars will follow the given direction to reach the destination. Our Robocars are implemented in a static 4x4 maze environment and communicate themselves using Bluetooth technology, and successfully traverse source to destination using optimum path.
