    Default Culture of the Nationalised Commercial Banks and the Private Commercial Banks during Last Two Decades: A Comparative Study

    In the context of Bangladesh, presently the magnitude of loan default is quite enormous. It has been riddled with high default rates leading to increasing default culture and deteriorating customer service standards, low income rate, corruption, political interference and lack of productive utilization of available resources. The achievements of the banking system arc being overshadowed by staggering the volume of default loans and even threatening the existence of the banking system at this moment. As the 'default Culture' is a sensitive issue there are very limited writings on it. As a result, this field has attracted the attention of the researcher and academicians in recent years. The present chapter attempts to review some of the important literature relevant to the present study. 2.1. Review of Literature A study on debt default in Bangladesh has been carried out by a team led by Sobhan (1991) titled "Debt Default to the Development Finance Institution: The crisis of State Sponsored Entrepreneurship in Bangladesh': The study has, however, limited its scope to Development Finance Institutions (DFI). In an attempt to look at the social background of the borrowers from DFI, the study used the data available from application forms and did not supplement it by an in-depth interview of a structured random sample of entrepreneurs. The conclusion of the study is that the borrowers are relatively new first generation, enter in the business world after the liberation of the country without useful experience of running a modern enterprise for any significant length of time. According to them, the borrower groups could be broadly classified as industrialist-cum-traders, traders, civil or military bureaucrats and professionals and service holders. These borrowers groups accounted for 34.2%, 34.3%, 16.44% and 12.12° 10 respectively. The large scale lending to private entrepreneurs started in the second half of the 1970s and the 1980s. Not only that these new class of entrepreneurs lacked experience, the credit-worthiness measured in terms of loan-asset ratio indicated high degree of pervasive dependence on DFI loanable fund which is ultimately guaranteed by tax payers through the government. In this context, it was noticed that in nearly two-thirds of these (entrepreneurs) family controlled or their friends controlled business, the age of the managing directors was around forty or less and nearly two thirds of the entrepreneurs had five years or less working experience. The authors found that as of end of 1980-81, only about 6% of firms paid their debt liabilities to the two DFis fully, 27.5% firm paid less 10% of what was due and 78.6% firms had substantial overdue loan. The study further concluded that no sector stood out as having a noticeably good or bad record of debt repayments. After 1981-82 and till 1984-85, the general repayment performance fell and repayment by private sector was markedly worse. By 1985, it was found that concentration of overdue loan in these two DFis was with 45 top defaulting projects i.e., few influential business house. By 1987 loan recovery situation did not improve.     Design and Performance Analysis of Wireless Power Transfer

    Wireless force transmission (WPT) has been creating in a wide range of subject in different field and furthermore become an exceptionally dynamic research zone due to their potential in giving high innovation to our day by day lives. It is an exceptionally efficient and a method for saving our natural resources intending to modernize these fuel free transports. This paper is about to design wireless power system and performance analysis like; charging for EV and sun-oriented vehicles, share potential with no wire. The reason for this postulation is planning and usage of a framework to improve the exhibition of remote force move framework and to lessen the utilization of wires by utilizing Tesla coil as a transmitter to create high frequency, high voltage with low exchanging flow so as to deliver high density flux to move electric power. Power is transferred wirelessly by magnetic field which is made by direct enlistment followed by resonant magnetic induction which is a type of inductive coupling where the carried flux can be caught by inductive coil at the receiver that coupled to the primary coil. This tesla coil is included to transfer power a way off to a load or an electrical hardware that should be charged or fueled wirelessly. This system is grown in order to decrease the utilization of wire, spare characteristic assets, power for electric vehicle and wireless charging.     Development of Low Volume Substrate Based Particulate Matter Sampler

    Air pollution has arisen as a major concern in the present era due to its adverse impact on human health and surrounding environment. Among the six criteria pollutants, the atmospheric particulate matters have been considered as a challenge to ensure air quality in Bangladesh because the Air Quality Index (AQI) value for particulate matter (PM) is mostly ranges from caution to extremely unhealthy. However, air quality sampling and monitoring program in Bangladesh is very insignificant due to expensive PM sampler dealing with nano to micro scale parameters. This study focuses on the development of a low cost PM sampler which is low volume, multi-nozzle and substrate based. The design parameters such as nozzle number, nozzle diameter and nozzle to plate distance were determined from the dimensionless factor named stokes number ( ) introducing the Reynolds number (Re). The optimal nozzle configuration array was selected to avoid the effect of cross flow parameter upon the collection characteristics. The PM sampler operates at a flow rate of 5 L/min and consists of two different sets of circular nozzles designed for cut-off PM10 (Diameter of particle less than 10μm) and PM2.5 (Diameter of particle less than 2.5μm). The designed PM sampler was fabricated from the Fab-Lab of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) using the silver metallic PLA filament which is light weight and corrosion resistant. Microscopic analysis of the substrate was performed to investigate cut-off performance. Gravimetric analysis was conducted to evaluate the field performance of the developed PM with a sensor based (light-scattering) reference sampler within the KUET campus. The loss of particle on this study was determined by counting the particle inside the sampler’s wall as well as the stagnant corner point of the inside of the PM sampler. A stage wise sharp cut-off was found for PM10 and PM2.5 of developed PM sampler. The average mass concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 was found as 108μg/m3 and 49μg/m3, respectively. The average mass concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 was found very close to the reference sampler. The average particle loss for the impactor nozzle and sampler body was found 12.0% which shows good agreement with previous studies. The obtained cross-flow parameter for the stage PM10 (0.20) and PM2.5 (0.29) were also satisfying the critical value (< 1.2). Overall, the PM sampler was developed as light-weight, easy to use, portable, low maintenance required, and low cost which can be implemented for PM monitoring in Bangladesh.

    Upgradation of Jute Retting by Pectinolytic Bacteria at Farmers' Level for the Improvement of Fibre Quality

    Fourteen bacterial colonies have been isolated from jute retting bacterial collections from farmers' retting tanks in the districts of Rajshahi and Pabna. Out of these fourteen bacterial colonies only three are found to be pectinolytic and non-cellulolytic. They grow moderate in Nutrient agar medium and well in Echandi medium containing Apple pectin as a source of carbon. These three bacterial strains are named by Z1, Z4 and Z3o and are identified as Micro-coccus Lyle,M. lute us and Macro-bacterium laevaniformans, respectively. In field trials pretreatment with single or mixed culture of Z1, Z4 and Z30 on basal portions of green jute resulted in removing cuttings from jute. In Tossa jute removal of cuttings are made from 1.72 inches to 0.4 - 0.33 inches and in Deshi jute from 5.8 inches to 2.0 inches. Tensile strength, fineness and color of jute fiber are also improved. These result in up gradation of jute by one to two grades over the control.
