Item Discrimination and Social Exclusion of Third-Gender Population (Hijra) in Bangladesh(Scopus, 22-09-26) Al-Mamun, Md.; Hossain, Md. Jamal; Alam, Morshed; Parvez, Md. Shahin; Dhar, Bablu Kumar; Islam, Md. RabiulThe Hijra community is marginalized in social, political, and economic life and especially stigmatized in society. It is their birthright to make use of society's opportunities and amenities. This overview aimed to summarize the stigma, prejudice, exclusions, and discriminatory attitudes toward third-gender populations (Hijra) in Bangladesh from the mainstream society based on a critical assessment of available data and evidence. The paper also explored the socio-economic situation of the third-gender community in Bangladesh regarding income, education, health, housing, social relations, and outcome through a critical literature review. Here, we have highlighted the magnitudes of social exclusion that the Hijra minority group in Bangladesh experiences. The Hijra in Bangladesh faces severe mistreatment due to socio-cultural norms. This minority group suffers from extreme social, cultural, political, and economic exclusion in Bangladesh. Their livelihood is different than other communities in the society. The primary source of income for hijras in Bangladesh is begging and prostitution. They have no access within civil society, even in times of recreational and marital practices. People are unreasonably afraid of their presence in public places. Apart from that, they are physically and psychologically abused and deprived of appropriate medical and civil support. Hijras are deprived of government facilities and are accustomed to miserable lifestyles in Bangladesh. They are the most vulnerable and disadvantaged minority as they lack access to quality services, health care, and employment opportunities. Social recognition and financial independence may be the first step to alleviating discrimination toward the third-gender population. Government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) should be concerned about ensuring the rights of the Hijra community must be protected.Item Machine Learning-based Prediction and Possibility for University Admission Based on Student’s Profile(Daffodil International University, 2022-02-17) Al-Mamun, Md.The decision of which university to go to for postgraduate studies is quite challenging for students. Despite the fact that I have a similar difficulty while considering moving overseas for my higher education. Based on my profile, I look into a variety of institutions. However, based on my profile, I am unable to locate the ideal university. With the number of universities and subjects growing by the day, deciding which institution is ideal for a well-profiled student is becoming increasingly difficult. To address this issue, Given the student's profile I propose a machine learning-based method that compares various regression algorithms such as Artificial neural network, decision tree, Random Forest, linear regression. This paper compares and contrasts different models to determine which one is the most accurate.Item Menstrual hygiene management in flood-affected Bangladesh: addressing socio-cultural barriers, infrastructure gaps, and policy responses(Frontiers in Public Health, 2025) Al-Mamun, Md.; Kamal, Abul; Karim, Md. Zawadul; Alam, Marufa; Khan, Tauhid HossainBangladesh is highly vulnerable to natural disasters due to its geographic location, with flooding being the most frequent and severe catastrophe. In 2024, heavy rains triggered widespread flooding across 11 districts, affecting approximately 1 million households and marooning around 4.9 million people in the northeast and southeast regions, resulting in 20 fatalities. Essential services and infrastructure suffered extensive damage, including the destruction of 26,584 water taps and 62,528 toilets. Women were disproportionately affected, with an estimated 2.54 million experiencing the impacts of the floods. These events highlight the recurring vulnerability of Bangladesh to flood disasters and underscore the urgent need for effective disaster preparedness, resilient infrastructure, and targeted support for affected populations, particularly women and other vulnerable groups.Item Navigating the psychosocial challenges and coping mechanisms of parents raising children with Autism spectrum disorder in Bangladesh(Sage Journals, 2025-02) Karim, Md. HazratThis narrative review explores the psychosocial challenges faced by parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Bangladesh and the coping strategies they use to manage these challenges. Findings reveal that Bangladeshi parents experience significant social stigmatization, exclusion, religious misconceptions, and negligence in healthcare settings. Many parents report being marginalised within their families and communities, leading to high levels of psychological distress, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Mothers, in particular, are more vulnerable to these challenges, reporting severe levels of stress and depression due to societal pressures. Parents also struggle with a lack of adequate support services and professional guidance, especially in rural areas. Despite these difficulties, parents employ various coping strategies, such as building peer support networks, improving their knowledge of ASD, practicing religious spirituality, and using problem-focused approaches. The study underscores the need for improved mental health services, public awareness campaigns to reduce stigma, and policy initiatives to provide better support to parents of children with ASD. These measures are essential to alleviate the psychological and social burdens faced by families, particularly parents, in Bangladesh.Item Synthesis, Characterization and Thermoluminescence Properties of LiCaPO4 Phosphor for Ionizing Radiation Dosimetry(Elsevier, 2023-12-15) Rahat, Md Raghib; Mimi, Homaira Afia; Islam, Shah Azharul; Kamruzzaman, Md.; Ferdous, Jannatul; Begum, Mahfuza; Hasnat, Md Abul; Abdul-Rashid, H.A.; Muslima, Umme; Khandaker, Mayeen Uddin; Bradley, D.A.; Al-Mamun, Md.; Rahman, A.K.M. MizanurMany minerals and compounds show thermoluminescence (TL) properties but only a few of them can meet the requirements of an ideal dosimeter. Several phosphate materials have been studied for low-dose dosimetryin recent times. Among the various phosphates, ABPO4-type material shows interesting TL properties. In this study, an ABPO4-type (A = Lithium, B=Calcium) phosphor is synthesized using a modified solid-state diffusion method. Temperature is maintained below 800 °C in every step of phosphor preparation to obtain the pure phase of Lithium calcium phosphate (LiCaPO4). The purpose of this work is to synthesize LiCaPO4 using a simple method, examine its structural and luminescence properties in order to gain a deeper understanding of its TL characteristics. The general TL properties, such as TL glow curve, dose linearity, sensitivity, and fading, are investigated. Additionally, this study aims to determine various kinetic parameters through Glow Curve Deconvolution (GCD) method using the Origin Lab software together with the Chen model. XRD analysis confirmed the phase purity of the phosphor with a rhombohedral structure. Lattice parameters, unit cell volume, grain size, dislocated density, and microstrain were also calculated from XRD data. Raman analysis and Fourier Transform Infrared analysis were used to collect information about molecular bonds, vibrations, identity, and structure of the phosphor. To investigate TL properties and associated kinetic parameters, the phosphor was irradiated with 6.0 MV (photon energy) and 6.0 MeV (electron energy) from a linear accelerator for doses ranging from 0.5 Gy to 6.0 Gy. For both photon and electron energy, TL glow curves have two identical peaks near 200 °C and 240 °C.The TL glow curves for 0.5 Gy–6 Gy are deconvoluted, then fitted with the appropriate model and then calculated the kinetic parameters. Kinetic parameters such as geometric factor (μg), order of kinetics, activation energy (E), and frequency factor (s) are obtained from Chen's peak shape method. The dose against the TL intensity curve shows that the response is almost linear in the investigated dose range. For photon and electron energy, the phosphor is found to be the most sensitive at 2.0 Gy and 4.0 Gy, respectively. The phosphor shows a low fading and after 28 days of exposure, it shows a signal loss of better than 3%. The studied TL properties suggest the suitability of LiCaPO4 in radiation dosimetry and associated fields.Item Synthesis, structural investigation, dielectric and magnetic properties of Zn2+2+-doped cobalt ferrite by the sol–gel technique(World Scientific, 2018-08-31) Hossain, Mohammad Sajjad; Alam, Md. Moazzem; Islam, Suravi; Khatun, Nazia; Hossain, Mukul; Alam, Mohammad Saiful; Al-Mamun, Md.Zinc substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with elemental composition Co1−x1−xZnxFe2O4 (x=0.0x=0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) were prepared by the sol-gel auto-combustion technique using Co, Fe, Zn nitrate as a precursor where nitrates to citrate was 1:3. The as prepared powder of cobalt zinc ferrite was sintered at 900∘C for 3h. Structural, morphological, dielectric and magnetic properties were studied by x-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), high precision impedance analyzer and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively. The peaks obtained from the XRD confirmed samples having crystallite (∼∼32–36nm) single phase inverse spinel structure without any traceable impurity. Lattice parameters were calculated from XRD and it increases with Zn content. SEM revealed irregularly shaped grains (∼0.5∼0.5–0.7μμm) morphology with heterogeneous distribution. The dielectric constant (ε′ε′) and dielectric loss (tanδtanδ), have been measured as a function of frequency at room temperature. The dependence of ε′ε′ and tanδtanδ with frequency showed the normal dielectric behavior in accordance with the Maxwell-Wagner type of interfacial polarization and electron hopping change between Co2+2+ and Co3+3+ as well as between Fe2+2+ and Fe3+3+ ions at octahedral sites.
