Blended learning for effective english language acquisition of a private university students in Bangladesh: a phenomenological study

This study explores the role of blended learning in English language acquisition by discussing the perceptions, learning outcomes, and life experiences of students at private universities in Bangladesh. With the increasing use of online platforms among students at private universities in Bangladesh, blended learning has become a prominent educational method here. Further, while blended learning offers various benefits in developing English language skills, it also has some challenges. These challenges include psychological, technological, and teacher–learner rapport. A phenomenological research was chosen to explore these challenges. The findings of this study reveal that blended learning has a positive impact on the development of linguistic skills and contributes to global competence and professional preparedness due to students’ flexible access to online materials and online platforms. On the other hand, there is a lack of development in conversational opportunities and listening comprehension challenges. The study also concluded that the use of AI tools has created opportunities for misuse that have negatively affected the student–teacher rapport. There was a general concern that blended learning, while increasing flexibility, global skills, and professional readiness, has negative impacts on some important aspects. This study is significant because it highlights the importance of creating appropriate and decentralized approaches to English language acquisition to address the challenges facing private university students in Bangladesh.
Constriction of English language learning in a developing country— a qualitative study in Bangladesh

The aim of this study is to explore the constriction of students’ English language learning due to the challenges faced in a developing country, and the study is conducted in the context of Bangladesh. Eventually, the exploration leads towards understanding how the learning is being constricted and in what magnitude. Qualitative method was employed to explore the students’ learning experiences of English in Bangladesh which in fact shaped the direction of this study. The findings suggest, students’ learning of English is being constricted essentially in terms of their superior cognitive abilities such as critical thinking and creativity which impact communication skill also. Rote learning and fallen integrity rather appear to be significant constituents in this process of constriction as the catalyst and/or byproduct. Among few anticipated measures from the findings, cautions against the students’ tendency to give minimum effort is the notable one. Hence, findings from this study may aid in the endeavors of bridging the gap between policy and practice.

Books are a great media for knowledge seekers to acquire knowledge. But when it is come to buy it, we need to go outside and many people also prefer E-books which are not sold in the normal market places. This is the reason we came with this solution where people can go for their own solutions. This project is actually delivers the solution for people’s choice. This is a kind of web and app system which will help the consumers to buy books. The aim of the project is mainly to help people to go beyond the boundary of physical book shop. Bangladesh is a technologically driven country. Now online transaction is not a difficult thing. This project is for buying books directly from the web or the app in any formal e.g. PDF or Hardcopy. There is also cash on delivery. To maintain the system after implementation, one administrator is enough who will maintain all the management functionalities. Though out the documentation of the project, reader’s convenience was our highest priority. All the documentation has been written in a clean and transparent manner. Technical terms and nations has been elaborated properly.
Evaluation of THz wave transmission performance in TOPAS-based heptagonal photonic crystal fiber (He-PCF)

PCF denotes photonic crystal fiber which is utilized for terahertz (THz) waveguides and cladding in the shape of a hexagon with two elliptical air apertures (AHs), which are discussed. Such differentiation is made: When the frequency is 1 THz, effective material loss (EML) to a minimum of 0.028 cm−1 has been achieved. Making use of the heptagonal photonic crystal fiber (He-PCF) architecture, every simulation result utilizing COMSOL Multiphysics software implements the perfectly match layer (PML) and finite element method (FEM) boundary conditions. The He-PCF fiber demonstrates an effective mode loss (EML) of 0.028 cm−1 that is negligible, a substantial effective area (EA) measuring 7.31 × 10−8 m2 and an 80 % power concentration encompassing the central area at 1 THz frequency. Exploring factors affecting English language learning in Bangla-medium students: a qualitative analysis

Speaking and writing English well is a prerequisite for working with technological, educational, and industrial advancements. Upon starting university, several students who had their elementary and secondary education in Bengali found themselves in a very different environment. Their inability to communicate in English caused them to poor academic performance and resulted in repeated job rejections. In many cases student performance is judged based on their oral English proficiency than their actual abilities. This research explores difficulties that certain Bengali-medium students experience due to their limited English proficiency. A qualitative method was employed to carry out this research and data were collected through interviews with students and parents. The findings of the study highlighted the challenges faced by Bengali-medium students and the factors that motivate them to pursue further study in a second language. The study also concluded that the students are unhappy with their school and want to be taught in English-medium school. The participants shared how their limited ability to speak in English hurt their self-esteem and limited the chances of being successful. A common worry was that the teachers were not paying enough attention to develop students’ English-speaking skills. The study is significant as it explored one of the vital issues in our education system. It will have implications for future curriculum reform and policy decisions.
Exploring reading strategies and challenges of Bangla-medium tertiary level learners: a phenomenological study

Reading skills play a crucial role in language acquisition, and their development is approached differently across various educational levels in Bangladesh. Understanding how reading skills evolve can enhance the overall effectiveness of language acquisition. This study employed a phenomenological qualitative research design to explore reading skills among university-going Bangla medium tertiary-level learners. This study specifically focused on understanding how Bangla-medium background university learners utilize various reading strategies. In Bangladesh, the English language is treated as a foreign language at the primary and secondary levels of education. Most learners in Bangladesh primarily follow Bangla not only as their first language but also as the medium of study at the secondary and higher secondary level, given that it is their native language. After completing higher secondary education in Bangladesh, the learners usually pursue the tertiary level of education at various tertiary level of institutions. This study explored how Bangla medium tertiary-level learners in Bangladesh engage with assessment procedures in reading pedagogy and the challenges they encounter while implementing these techniques in their academic studies. A total of nine tertiary-level learners were selected as participants based on their lived experiences and educational backgrounds. Information was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, observation, and analyzing artifacts. Interviews were recorded with permission from the participants, transcribed, and then analyzed to answer the research questions. The results revealed that tertiary-level learners employ several reading strategies but encounter difficulties while implementing them in their academic lives. These strategies include skimming, scanning, summarizing, using the interactive model, decoding unfamiliar vocabulary, understanding complex grammar, and intensive reading. This study will be significant for various stakeholders including teachers, students, curriculum developers, policymakers, and future researchers. The findings will also be significant for curriculum development, teacher training programs, and textbook writing at various levels.

The improvement of online job portals has changed the recruiting and job-hunting scene, especially in Bangladesh. “JobHuntBD”, a web-based job portal in Bangladesh, aims to address unemployment, skill gaps, and remote work trends through user-centric design and various functionalities. It connects job seekers with employers by offering features like job search, application submission, resume building, and communication tools. It prioritized security, data privacy, and accessibility. In the recruiting process and promoting open communication, job boards such as bdjobs.com, Prothom Alo Jobs, AllJobsBD.com, and other job portals have grown to be vital resources for both companies and job seekers. The report analyzes existing job portals within Bangladesh, outlining their strengths and weaknesses. The needs of the users are identified through functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability, and mobile compatibility. The design of our employment portal emphasizes personalized suggestions, advanced search, and comprehensive profiles. The report also details the Business Process Model, Use Case Model, Logical Data Model, as well as financial analysis of our project. By addressing challenges like fake job postings and limited internet access, “JobHuntBD” tries to be a reputable platform fostering economic growth and connecting talent with opportunity across Bangladesh.
My journey as a teacher: a report on my internship as an elementary school teacher

This internship report details my four month journey as a teacher and what I have learned from this journey. I have also discussed what I have done well and what I feel I could have done better. I describe my contribution in terms of my students’ learning, as well as my continuous effort to help my students to learn better. In this report I have also critically reflected my teaching, citing examples from my teaching experiences. In my teaching I attempted to implement what I have learnt attending various courses during my undergraduate study. However, I feel it is not always easy or possible to implement what the books suggest; rather I need to innovate and make activities more fun and enjoyable for my students. I have discussed a few of these experiences. I consider myself lucky to get the chance to do my internship at a renowned English Medium School named Brighton (pseudonym) school. The internship was four months in duration. During this internship, my responsibility was to help children to improve their English skills. Along with that I was also attempted to make them interested in study, specially developing their English speaking skills. The school follows the textbook like “The Radiant Way, 2nd Step”. Along with the suggested text I used some other interesting stories like Aesop’s Fable to teach my students. Finally, this experience makes me rethink about teaching and helped me to get many practical experiences.
Teaching English at rural secondary schools of Bangladesh: Facilitating or disadvantaging?

This research aims at digging up the barriers and facilities of English teaching at rural secondary schools in Bangladesh. In a country like Bangladesh, the rural areas are deprived of different opportunities and facilities which are available in urban areas. In case of education, rural education system is also far behind the urban education system. So along with the students, the teachers also face different difficulties in case of teaching and learning in rural areas. However, this research focuses on the English teachers of rural secondary schools. Since I wanted to understand the scenario of English teaching in rural secondary schools I went for qualitative research. I visited four secondary schools of different rural areas and interviewed the teachers and students and also observed the English classes to get the genuine information. Though the data collected from these four schools cannot generalize the whole picture of English teaching in rural secondary schools, it gives important and valuable information of teaching English in rural areas of Bangladesh. This study tries to find out the pros and cons of English teaching at rural secondary schools. Along with the barriers, it also tries to find out whether there are any facilities in case of teaching English in rural areas.
