    A study on status of indigenous cats in Khulshi area, Chittagong.

    The study was conducted at khulshi area, Chittagong during the period of 11.11.12 to 26.12.12. This study was conducted to analyze the present status of indigenous cats in that particular area. There are approximately 150-200 cat breeds in the world. But in Bangladesh mainly indigenous/non descriptive breeds are found. The aim of the study was to know variety of cats, health status and behavioral and reproductive characteristics of the cats. The method of this study includes phenotypic observations of cats through photography, interviewing cat owners, local peoples and cat practitioners. Cats are not generally loved by common people as compared to dog. They generally prey cockroaches and rats and usually like to eat milk, cooked and raw fish, greatly fond of dried fishes & their spines and fins. Sometimes they eat plants when they face enteric disturbances/disorders. The cats have strong attraction for opposite sex. They have intentions to leave home frequently for short duration. The normal body temperature ranges between 100.5 - 102.5 °F (38 - 39.2° C), respiration rate 16 - 40 breaths per minute, heart rate 120-140 beats per minute. Kittens have 26 teeth and adults 30 teeth. Female cats are seasonally polyestrous. Heat periods occur about every two weeks and last about 4 to 7 days. The males fight over her, and the victor wins the right to mate. The female will utter a loud yowl as the male pulls out of her during mating. Gestation period for cats is between 64–67 days. Kittens are weaned at between six and seven weeks, and cats normally reach sexual maturity at 5–10 months (females) and to 5–7 months (males). Females can have two to three litters per year, so may reproduce up to 150 kittens(with a litter size 4-7) in their breeding span of around ten years. Domestic pets are kept with owners. They reside in the drawing room, kitchen, sofas or any other soft places of house. Stray cats also pass nights outside houses, even in the jungle area. Cats are very playful specially in the young age. This behavior mimics hunting and is important in helping kittens learn to stalk, capture, and kill prey. Owing to the close similarity between play and hunting, cats prefer to play with objects that resemble prey, such as small furry toys that move rapidly. Stray cats defecate in loose soil and cover the feces with surrounding soil/materials. Common cat diseases are tetanus,tuberculosis, salmonellosis, leptospirosis, feline bordetellosis, tularemia, metritis, nocardiosios, actinomycoses, pyoderma, Feline rabies, Feline immunodeficiency virus, Feline parvo virus or Feline panleukepenia, Feline infectious peritonitis, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, dermatitis, dermatophytoses, fungal infection, flea infestation , ear mite infestation, round worm infection, renal failure, coughing & sneezing, feline infectious enteritis, fracture of limbs, constipation etc. The vaccine used for cat is “Quadricat” vaccine for rabies, Feline calici virus, Feline leukepenia virus, Feline herpes virus. Common drugs use in SAQTVH, CVASU are Inj.Metro IV, Inj. Strepto P, Inj. Eracef vet 1gm, Syp. Delentin, Syp. Avolac, Syp. Cef 3, Inj. Vita ADE, Syp. Biconex, Tab. Omidon. But, paracetamol cannot be administered in cat. Cat can also be pet as companion animal though it cannot be compared with dog.

    Advancing sentiment analysis in Bengali:

    This paper presents a comprehensive study on sentiment analysis in the Bengali language, focusing on user-generated comments from online shopping websites. Despite the significant number of Bengali speakers worldwide, the language remains underrepresented in natural language processing (NLP) research. This study aims to bridge this gap by applying advanced sentiment analysis techniques to better understand customer opinions and preferences in the e-commerce domain. The research involved a meticulous process of data collection, where 1995 comments were extracted using web scraping techniques. Rigorous preprocessing methods, including text cleaning, normalization, tokenization, and Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) vectorization, were employed to prepare the dataset for analysis. A variety of machine learning (ML) models, such as Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Multi. Naive Bayes, KNN, SVM, and SGD, along with deep learning (DL) models like LSTM, Bi-LSTM, and CNN, were trained and evaluated on this dataset. The results revealed that while traditional ML models like SVM and SGD showed strong performance, deep learning models, particularly BiLSTM, demonstrated superior ability in sentiment classification. This was attributed to their effectiveness in capturing contextual nuances and complex linguistic patterns inherent in Bengali. The study underscored the challenges of processing a morphologically rich language like Bengali and the importance of choosing the right model for effective sentiment analysis. Furthermore, the research addressed the societal, ethical, and environmental implications of implementing sentiment analysis tools. It highlighted the need for responsible data usage, bias mitigation, transparency in model application, and sustainable computing practices. In conclusion, the research contributes significantly to the field of sentiment analysis in less-studied languages, providing valuable insights for businesses, policymakers, and researchers. It paves the way for more inclusive technological advancements in AI and NLP, ensuring linguistic diversity is embraced and respected in the digital age.

    STUDY ON INCIDENCE OF PPR IN BOALKHALI, CHITTAGONG.

    The present study aimed to know the clinical signs and postmortem findings of PPR of goats, to estimate the proportionate incidence of PPR of goats, to know the effect of PPR and to enlist the symptomatic treatment. In the first phase, 103 diseased goats were registered from different unions and areas of Boalkhali upazilla during the period of 16th July to 6th September, 2012.Black Bengal (59%) and young goats (43.85%) were recognized more susceptible to PPR. A structured record keeping sheet was used for registration of diseased data of goats with their demographic information (species, age, sex and breed), nature of feeding apart from owner. A descriptive analysis was carried out to express the result in frequency percentage and risk ratio. Approximately 5 ml of blood was collected aseptically from the jugular vein of each 10 PPR infected goats and 10 healthy goats in vial containing Na EDTA @ 2 mg/ ml in SAQTVH,CVASU. The Following haematological analysis were performed: Total erythrocyte count (TEC), total leukocyte count (TLC), differential leukocyte count (DLC), hemoglobin content (Hb), Packed cell volume (PCV) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). All tested data were recorded in a data recording sheet and obtained data were imported in the Microsoft Excel-2007 and transferred into the statistical software STATA-11for analysis. A descriptive analysis was carried out for the obtained mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, of every hematological parameter. Following investigation and analysis the different hematological parameters that were found in healthy goat were TEC-12.15+1.37, TLC-7.51+1.423, Hb-10.3+1.67, PCV-30.37+5.27, ESR-0, Lymphocyte-60.2+3.614, Monocyte-2.9+0.994, Neutrophil-35.7+3.335, Eosinophil-4.2+1.75, Basophil- 0.5+0.53 and in case of PPR affected goat TEC-5.709+1.65, TLC-6.583+1.5, Hb-7.44+0.80, PCV-30+3.33, ESR-0.05+0.15, Lymphocyte-68+1.05, Monocyte-2.1+0.875, Neutrophil-25.9+1.97, Eosinophil-3.7+1.16, Basophil- 0.3+0.67. The values of all hematogical parameters were decreased in PPR affected goat as compared to healthy goats except lymphocyte counts. The study revealed that the lymphocyte counts was increased significantly in PPR affected goats and others hematological pictures were somehow changed. Total protein and Albumin value of the samples were observed well by Humalyzer machine. The values of total protein 7.1+0.74 and albumin 42.77+3.375 in healthy goat. The values of total protein 3.15+0.53 and albumin 16.88+3.27 in PPR affected goat. Biochemical parameters total protein and albumin reduced drastically. Physical examination findings are high temperature ranging from 104◦ -107 ◦ F, dehydrated animals examined by skin fold test, erosion in the gum and dental pad, gentle rubbing across the gum and palate with afinger yield foul smelling materials shreds of epithelial tissue,whistling sound detected on indirect auscultation from lung and trachea, the feces are initially soft and then watery, foul-smelling and may contain blood streaks and pieces of dead gut tissue. Drugs used to check viral infection, diarrhea, convulsion, inhibit release of histamine and maintain electrolyte balance. Sulfadimidine, Ceftriaxone, Oxytetracycline, Pheneramine meleate, ORS were prescribed respectively. Antibiotic is given to check secondary bacterial infection as PPR is as immunosuppressive disease. Antihistaminic drug was used to check the release of histamine and reduce allergic reactions of antibiotics. Oral Rehydrated solution was to maintain electrolyte balance. PPR affected animal should be kept far from healthy animals. Appropriate knowledge on the epidemiology of the virus and the disease has to be generated in order to develop a control strategy for Bangladesh. Awareness should be created among farmers about PPR by calling meeting & doing seminars.

    The Moderating Impacts of COVID-19 Fear on Hotel Service Quality and Tourist Satisfaction: Evidence From a Developing Country

    This study delves into the interconnectedness service quality (SQ) and tourist satisfaction (TS) within the tourism sector of a developing country such as Bangladesh. It takes into account the fluctuating levels of COVID-19 fear as a contributing factor to this dynamic. The research illuminates the critical role of COVID-19 fear in shaping guest satisfaction and how differing fear levels influence guest expectations and experiences. In this study, MGA and PLS-SEM was employed to assess 420 sets of tourist data collected from various hotels and restaurants in Bangladesh. Through this, the study identifies distinct service quality (SQ) dimensions that significantly impact tourist satisfaction (TS) across various COVID-19 fear categories. The findings underline the need for accommodation providers to tailor their services and safety measures to match guests’ specific fear levels, emphasizing the importance of empathetic staff behavior and effective communication of safety measures. The framework suggested in this study holds substantial significance, and it is recommended that policymakers in Bangladesh integrate this model into their considerations when devising strategies for the tourism industry. The research provides insights that are relevant for the hospitality sector in Bangladesh, suggesting strategies to enhance guest satisfaction based on accommodation category and COVID-19 fear levels. Finally, future research directions are outlined, emphasizing the evolving dynamic of COVID-19’s impact, the role of technology, and the integration of diverse service evaluation constructs to enhance explanatory models.
